Tales of the Unicorn Queen

2009 plans and resolutions

Category Unicorn Queen

  • Read more fairy tales!

Because fairy tales are like life, but better!

  • Go to Las Vegas.

I devour all things outlandish and yet I’ve never been to Vegas?! Tsk tsk tsk. Here’s the plan: I’m gonna go there, stay at a flashy hotel, take lots of ridiculous pictures and… gamble. I’m not a big fan of gamblingĀ  – why waste money when you could buy yourself an 87th pair of shoes instead? – but sometimes experience is worth more than footwear.

  • Expand my makeup line and get it into stores.

I’d really like to branch out into eyeliner and lipstick in 2009. In fact, it’s all I can think about! Can you imagine?? Glitter eyeliners in turquoise, sparkly greens, purples! And lipstick – hot pinks, violets, beautiful red! I can’t wait! Also, it would be awesome to get Lime Crime makeup into some brick & mortar stores, so people can try it out in person!

  • Face the fear of traveling to Russia and Ukraine.

Traveling there is a pain in the butt because everything is in a run-down condition. I still remember how we had to pass a roll of toilet paper under the stalls in a public bathroom – hahaha! – because there weren’t any! Good thinking to bring our own. ;) As a result, I haven’t gone back since 2002.

I must also go to visit my grandfather in Ukraine. Although we correspond frequently, the last time I saw him in person was 12 years ago! He is getting old and I’m his only descendant. I must get over my bullshit and go out there, before it’s too late!

  • Remodel the house to look more like me.

White walls suck – and renting is not an excuse! I already converted the attic into a dollhouse – now it’s time to get to the rest of the house! My oh my, what shall I do…

  • Do more charity work.

Help out no-kill animal shelters in particular. Nursing each animal to health costs 1-2 thousand dollars, and with the recession looming the shelters are hurting. My goal is to make more money in 2009, so I can donate more. After all, one of those places saved the life of my Felix.

  • Attend a Venetian Ball.

Mark and I are on a lookout for a real Venetian Ball. It can’t be some fetish party in an East Village club, trying to pass off as a masquerade. It has to the real deal, held at an over-the-top mansion, with proper classical music and state-of-the-art masks and costumes! Yes.

  • See Mark graduate.

He’s been in school for 2 years (Economics), all the while working a full-time job to support me and my crazy endeavors. You know, fashion line, music projects, etc. I am very happy that Lime Crime Makeup is doing well enough so I can support him now. Mark is starting school full-time starting next year; at this expedited pace, we expect him to throw a hat within a year! :D

  • Undergo another style evolution.

My fashion look tends to develop in unexpected directions every couple of years. I usually go from one extreme to another, while retaining major elements of each style. From tomboy to Lolita, metalhead to Japanese street, DIY to high-brow designer, 80s disco to Victorian top hat & cane look. My style is like one giant snowball, new ideas layered atop of the old. It’s time for the new twist!

  • Meet more interesting people.

Looking out for new, exciting people to become a part of my circle is a constant on my agenda. Few people I meet make it past the acquaintance stage; and those who do, possess a unique quality I call Simple Complexity. They think differently, are either artists or have unusual pasts, but are all lovely to have around. They are complex figures who are easy to read, so to speak. They open up when you talk to them, they listen. I like to befriend people who are articulate, someone I can learn from – and who can, hopefully, learn from me. We don’t have to agree 100%, either; I love an intelligently composed counter-argument.

Insane genius and intelligent douchebag aren’t my types, haha (and there are so many of them out there!) They have to have a sound mind and a good heart. If I can meet even one person like that in 2009, I will be happy. :)

  • Laugh and joke more!

When I’m in a good mood, every sentence out of my mouth is an attempt at a joke. Maybe it’s not always as funny as I’d like it to be, but the fact that someoneĀ  laughs at it makes it all worthwhile! You know how sometimes you’re hanging out with someone and just can’t stop laughing? I wish for more moments like this for all of us in the new year.

Deerlings: what are your hopes, plans & resolutions for 2009?

    Happy New Year everyone!

I wish you all the best and hope that the new year brings joy and happiness to all of you!

I like to make goals instead of resolutions and I try to achieve everything I possibly can, Xenia I hope you can visit your Grandpa next year, family is very important and for me going back to my country is always a journey, it’s always a bit intimidating but it’s amazing to see different things and above all to see those who have led the way so we could become who we are :)

    2009 Goals:

Realize who I am, and my goal in life

  • Reggie says:

    Happy New Year to all!

I’ve got quite a few resolutions for 2009. First and foremost I want to start hanging out with my girlie’s more. Since getting serious with my boy 3 years ago my mates and I have only caught up a couple of times a year….I want to change that to at least once a month in 2009.
My second resolution is to be able to buy a house towards the end of the year. I managed to save a good amount of money last year….and then like always Murphy’s Law decided to rear its ugly head, so I have to start from scratch again.
My third and final resolution is a pretty common one: I want to get down to my goal weight. I started exercising and eating healthier in about September 2008 and managed to loose 7kg by December 1st….but I put two kilos back on during December. XD So I’m looking to loose about another 15kg, which I should be able to do in roughly 6months.

my new years resolution is to follow my dreams before going into university.
my parents have high expectations for me, they’ve limited my choices to lawyer or doctor. i chose doctor but there are so many things i want to do! i wanna model or design clothes or be a photographer! while a have a couple years left before i’m stuck with a medical book up my nose, i’m going to try these things!
ps. russia isn’t as bad anymore. the ukraine is still aweful. moscow is supposed to be a very rich city now.

  • Tamara says:

If you can’t find what you’re looking for in NYC or Vegas, maybe you could make a quick stop through Italy for the Venice Carnevale on your way over to Ukraine? :) It’s my first time going this year! There is also a Carnevale just over in Verona that is supposed to be pretty rad. I’m super geeked about both of them, but I haven’t started working on a costume yet :o Time to get moving on that….

  • Kristina says:

    Aw that’s great! My resolutions are;

    -To develop a style
    -To wear limecrime with pride
    -To lose some weight
-To stop being so emo all the time
-To break away from the chains I’ve put onto myself
    and
    -To buy/download supernatural!!!

  • Marlo says:

This is my first time posting here, but I’ve loved your blog for a while now. :) I want to get my hands on some Lime Crime makeup, and would love if you developed even more products for the line.

I know you’re an animal lover though, and so I wanted to let you know about this poor puppy that needs help, here – http://shelterpetpartners.org/. The organization is very reputable, and I adopted my two cats from them. I feel very bad for this puppy, and compelled to try to get the word out there for her. :( I want to do more charity for animals this year too.

  • Suzanne C. says:

I don’t make resolutions. They are a lot of unnecessary pressure and a perfect design for me to fail. Plus I just don’t get the point lol.

But I think reading fairy tales and seeing Vegas are great plans. I might just do both myself. I’ve been to Vegas 3x and love everything but the cig smoke and the sun. So if it’s not winter when you go be prepared to be COMPLETELY nocturnal or you’ll fry to death. I thought no place was hotter than here in AZ but Vegas takes the cake!
I also MUST volunteer at an animal shelter. I’ll have too look around since the Humane society is always making things overly difficult. But I will be joining a program that gets teens involved with various volunteer work.

I really hope you see your grandfather. I wish I’d spent more time with my grandmothers and now it’s too late. I’d also love to see Russia. If you go post pics. I’d just love to hear the accents, i love the way they sound, yours too.

Well good luck with expanding Lime Crime just please promise to keep it affordable! I’m still trying to finish collecting all the lovely things I’ve been wanting.
    And good Luck to Mark!

and one last thing: I hope someday I’m one of the interesting people you meet!

For once, I didn’t ‘officially’ sit down and come up with a list of resolutions as I’ve done in years past…but, if I had to come up with some, then here they are:

-Lose alot of weight…and actually do it this time!:D
-make myself sit down and create more masks and wings and sell some of them.
    -Get my Etsy.com store stocked.
-clean out some of my old makeup collection and up-grade to some high-end items. Already started working on that:D
-get my new apt. cleaned up and decorated nicely.
-get more furniture for my new apt./paint it/do repairs.
-get a car and learn to drive it.
    -make more money.
    And, be happy!:)

You had talked about a masquerade ball. Every year the Froud’s (fantasy artists Brian and Wendy Froud) put on a fantasy-themed masquerade ball in Las Angeles, Ca. I’ve seen pics. of the event throughout the years and it is so amazing -I want to go!!
-Also, around Halloween (or is it New Year’s Eve?) every year there is a masquerade ball with an early 1900′s theme that takes place at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado(rumored to be haunted!! Also, Stephen King has stayed here and wrote “The Shining” based on this hotel). I have never been there, but my mother has and she told me about it. She’s wanting to go to the masqued ball sometime this year.

So, there are two options to check out already:D And if you’re looking for masks, please check out my mask gallery: http://EMasqueradeGallery.deviantart.com
-all handmade and I do accept commissions.:)

My resolution is to re-invent my image this year into something much more polished and put-together while still being ultra feminine. :D

While looking for shoes, I found a brand that really made me think of you.

  • Megan J. says:

    Forgot to add…

I want to meet new and good people and make more friends. I’m tired of making friends with people who turn out to be incredibly flaky:(

Also, go to more Renaissance Festivals this year!:D

I think this is the one in the LA area-Its run by Sypher art studios, but The frouds show up. Ive gone the last 6 years-it is awesome.

  • Stephanie says:

    Another resolution of mine:

I need to figure out what I’m interested in ASAP, and stop being disinterested in everything. I’ll be facing college apps in the fall and I still have no clue what I want to do for the rest of my life, as I’m constantly discovering things that I DON’T want to be, but nothing that I DO want to be. I definitely know I’ll be going for a math/science-related major and one in French too. The problem is, even as I’ve narrowed things down quite a bit, there are still so many different math/science careers to choose from!

  • Kahani says:

Hi Xenia, sorry this is soo Off Topic but I was researching NYX Lippies and when I came across the Makeup Alley reviews of the shade Chaos, I remembered you and you’re search for a great fuschia lippie. Chaos is described by one reviewer as an incredible fuschia that says “hello, come here, my lips want to get to know you. Now.”

Have you tried NYX’s offerings out? They have an incredible number of shades.

  • Kellee says:

I never really make resolutions, and this year isn’t really an exception, except that overall I am going to try to be more out there. On the inside I want to be more. Just more. But I never really do it, and it results in me not being as happy as I can be, or hanging out with my friends less and less, which sucks. So I’m gonig to try that, and I think that my trip to the Domincan Republic next month will be a good start. :)

  • Bonnie says:

This year my resolution is to completely makeover my entire life, which includes but is not limited to:

Buying some Lime Crime! I opened a paypal for that express purpose.

Wear what I want to wear. I’ve always been a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl, but I’ve always wanted to be dressier.

    Get back into school.

    Quit the job I hate.

    Make new friends.

    Read more books.

    Play less video games.

    Be outside more.

    Happy (late) New Year!

  • Britt says:

    New Years Resolutions

    - Start crafting more and making things that I want instead of buying them and paying HUGE MASSIVE amounts of money. Such as I have a hula hoop up in my room that I made. I just need tape now to decorate it. I’ve also started a craft night and have such items such as: origami and mobiles and silk screening.

    - Actually go out to the gym once and a while. At school I walk around with a heavy book bag, I walk to the train, and I take transit to work where I stand on my feet all the time or clean or I am in the water teaching swim lessons, so I DO get the recommended daily exercise. I want to start doing some strength training and some more cardio. How will I achieve this? Maybe I will make my boyfriend go going a gym with me? Then we can work out together.
I dont really want to lose weight ((considering people think I weight 110lbs (haha I wish, I weight a bit more then that, but its nice having people think I am that tiny)) I just want to get a bit stronger, run a bit longer, and look a bit more toned.

    - Laugh more. I read a factoid that adults laugh 15 times a day while kids laugh 200-400. Laughing and smiles are good. It is my goal to laugh at least 100 times a day. That means I will laugh and smile that anything that amuses me during my day. And this will make me a happier person.

    - Cut soda pop mainly out of my life. By the end of the year I want to make sugary drinks a treat instead of a common place. Im already half way there, usually ordering water at restaurants and drinking water 80% of the time. Its just when I do have pop I guzzle a liter in a sitting.

    - Get and stay out of debt. Im not that far in to debt. I just dont like having a negative balance, I dont like owing money. I am pretty sure that one more payment will clear up my debt (just waiting for payday) and then once I am OUT of debt I plan on staying out of debt by not carrying my credit card around with me. When I have my card with me and I walk in to Shoppers with one item (and the cash to buy that one item) I walk out with 4 other items and the whole thing on my visa. If I dont have my visa on me, I couldn’t do that.

    - Try out all the recipes in my new cook book ‘Eat, Shrink, and Be Merry’. I bought it with a gift card I got for Christmas, and I want to try about 100 of the 150 recipes in it. Thats my goal.

    - Make sure that I will graduate in 2010. I have 13.5/20 of the courses I need. That means I will need some spring and summer classes, so be it. I want to finish my degree as soon as possible so I can move on to my Education degree. School no longer thrills me, its just something to do. Teaching kids makes me so happy that I CAN NOT WAIT to start doing it full time.
Its either that or just start teaching swimming full time. Which would make me about the same as teaching.

    - Start making deposits on my RRSP and investments. Money for the future sounds good. This cant start until I get my debt under handles. But once I do I want to start putting $200/month in my savings, + $100/month in investments or RRSP.

Umm I think that is it!

  • Jen says:

First of all, how awesome are you for wanting to do more to further the animal welfare cause. I’m very involved in animal rescue, mostly on my own, and also volunteer at an incredible no-kill shelter, so I see firsthand how much help we/they need. There are so many people out there trying to do this good work but struggling financially and struggling for space to house them, so anything anyone can do to further the cause is wonderful!! Kudos to you! You know what, though…one of the employees at the no-kill shelter said one time that sometimes the county shelters, who do kill, are overlooked because no one wants to donate to them, and sometimes they end up needing money even more to be able to care for the ones who are there…it’s a hard thing to know what to do because I know it would still be hard for me to give my money to them.

A lot of things that WOULD have been resolutions, I somehow managed to get done during the year already – I got my nose pierced, I made more progress in our house, I became a vegetarian, I got more involved in rescue, and I think I’m much happier and confident now than even a year ago after losing my mom almost four years ago…it’s been a big year of change for me, and I’m looking forward to what 2009 will bring – and I have a feeling it will be even bigger and better because I’m taking steps to feel better about myself all the time.

This year I would like to SLOW DOWN. Life seems to be passing me by too quickly. I need to pencil in more time at home and have less go-go-go all the time. Yet, somehow, I still need to work in more time to reconnect with old and new friends.

While I’m spending more time at home, I’d really like to get more decorating done, including not putting off finishing painting the bedroom and organizing the guest room and donating the rest of the things I don’t need anymore.

And anything else I can think of concerning overcoming fears that I have.

  • Jubilee says:

I don’t know about Venetian – but if you want to go to a fun, fancy ball you should look at Dances of Vice. I haven’t gone myself, but I was thinking of checking out one of their events sometime soon.
