***5 Days of Magic***: Lime Crime
Category: Fun & Games
***Contest Closed***
Our winner is Sonia, comments 350, who identifies with a fox.
Day 3: What’s magic without unicorns?! Today is your chance to win a $50 gift certificate to LimeCrimeMakeup.com!
To enter, tell us: which animal do you identify with, real or fantastical, and why?
Do I even need to answer that question?! ;) I identify with unicorns because they are self-reliant, highly individualistic animals. Colorful, whimsical, exuding GLEE and optimism! They get along well with people and other animals but, in the end, are loners – it’s uni-corn, meaning ‘one’. I often feel like a misfit who charges forth nonetheless.

You have 24 hours to submit your answers – comments only please! Winner will be picked randomly and contacted by email.

I identify with cats, mainly Siamese because they are little sweethearts, but know who they are and who they like. Plus, they are so mysterious!

I think I can identify with a more realistic animal, such as a daschund. They are wildly independent and bold, but have a very soft side to them that I think is very much me.

I think I relate to cats the best, they are often loners, preferring to go about their own way, doing their own thing.
They seem to have a desire to be elegant, sophisticated. They are such complex creatures, yet so easily made happy- once you figure out what it is they want!

I identify with the phoenix. In legend, the phoenix basically lived forever in 1,500 year life cycles. At the end of each cycle, the bird would die in a burst of flames and be reborn from the ashes.
I identify with the metaphor of this animal: redemption and rebirth; essentially adopting the idea that yes, I will make mistakes, but I can pick myself up from the ashes of my mess, and move on with new knowledge and wisdom about how to better live my life.

Owls. Wise, elegant and beautiful but also solitary. Beautiful feathers and cute big black eyes. And actually, having a head that could revolve around 360 degrees could be useful if I were an owl. Then again, I’m a writer and I don’t think that wings will be very compatible with my keyboard.
Oh, and owls can fly. How cool is that?

prooobably a bat. in part because someone, somewhere, titled my living space ‘the batcave’, and in part because–well, bats. tiny, dark, blind, prone to hanging upside down, lives in caves, shrieks terribly, occasionally have absurdly long tongues and sharp pointy teeth…
no, i’m pretty sure i shoulda been born a bat. *wry* i like ‘em. they flap around blindly and go into panics when people touch their space. there’s all these weird myths surrounding them, but they’re just…bloodsucking mammals who fly. uh. >_>
…ALTERNATIVELY A MERMAID. i wanna live in a mermaid kingdom. with mermaids. underwater. so we can poke humans and speculate on why those silly two-legged monkeys upstairs are so weird and NEVER COME ON LAND EVER. >=D

I am the dragon – an old soul, wise and highly misunderstood. I often lurk in the darkness until I see my time to spread my wings and fly. I am a mother, protective to the last, unexpectedly nurturing and kind. You think I am hoarding my gold, but I will give willingly to those who do not seek treasure.

I think I am a cow, cows are majestic animals that are not usually thought of to be intelligent or really anything other than a food source. I think they are beautiful (and delicious). they are laid back, take very good care of their offspring, loyal and affectionate. They have deep, soulful, loving eyes, my boyfriend tell me I have “cow eyes”. They are unique, no two cows look the same.

I’m not sure what animal I identify with since ‘identify’ seems to I think imply we have something in common. My favourite animals are cats and Elephants. I already talked about liking cats but in a word: Snowball. Elephants are the most beautiful and majestic creatures, they seem so kind, they remind me or people but better, more simple and pure; they tend to lack unneccesary agression. You don’t find an evil elephant. They also seem to posess some sort of mysterious wisdom and so much grace. There is also something profound about their approach toward death.

I identify with giraffes.
They are so unique and and tall.
I find them completely special mostly because they remind me of myself.
Giraffes are notorious for being incredibly tall and have long necks.
I myself am tall.
They have extremely long tongues and as do I, and take pride in it as well.
Each giraffe’s pattern is completely unique and different from any other giraffe.
And finally giraffes are good at making anyone laugh with just silly faces, much like myself!
See:

*note: hair doesn’t look like that anymore, but see our resemblance?!
They are docile creatures, much like myself and never result to violence.

A Pegasus. It is a winged horse from Greek mythology. It comes from the Greek word Pegasos which means strong. I identify with it because I consider myself an emotionally strong person. Considering the obstacles I have had to overcome, I feel like I have had to also spread my wings and fly, so to speak :) Also, the pegasus sprang from the head of Medusa when Perseus cut off her head, which symbolizes the chaotic family I was born into! LOL :)

I identify with butterflies. ;D I love them, and I feel like when i began liking butterflies I sort of transformed into who I really am. Deer, I think. I’ve always felt a sort of comfort around them. They’re so beautiful and majestic, and there’s always a strong relationship with nature that’s associated with them. i’ve always identified with birds. hawks soar through the sky, relying on their wings and the wind to get places. they perch, watching the world around them. that sounds all cool and serious, but i’ve also got the silly chatteriness of a cardinal who just wants more sunflower seeds and knows you’re hiding them. birds are funny and flighty, just like me.

I can definitely relate most to a Luna Moth. I like to be bright, but I change my style a lot (Luna Moths shed their skins 4 or 5 times before they’re grown!) I’m a night person, for sure. Nothing’s better than the blue-black covering of everything to make you wonder at the beauty of it all. Eating takes a backseat when I’m working on a long and involved project, and I often wonder why my belly hurts after a while (adult Luna Moths have no mouths!) And last but not least, like the Luna Moth, I only like to mate at night ;)

I would have to say I might identify best with humans :)
Humans are animals and the most creative and expressive ones. Humans have to power to both create and destroy. And we have language, being a linguistics major this aspect is important to me. However, taking this question more literally I would say that I best identify with the Fox. The fox is cunning, brave, intelligent, and not to mention beautiful.
If I could own a fox as a pet I would call it Mr. Todd after the Beatrix Potter Character.
<3 Cait
p.s Todd actually is an old anglo-saxon term for fox :)

A bird. I can most identify with a small bird like a sparrow. I’m always afraid of bigger birds (people who intimidate me). I don’t like new places or new things but I know when those things are necessary (such as when a bird flies south for the winter or leaves the nest.) I love being free & able to come & go as it pleases me & if I could I’d love to be able to fly. I eat like a bird too. Yeah about two times my body weight a day. Okay that’s an exageration but I do eat a lot & I stay active for the most part so like a bird even though I eat alot I don’t gain a lot. Birds are lovely fluid creatures & I hope that I can immulate them but I know I can at least identify with them :)

I identify with a type of spider that I made up: it weaves its web in and out of the hair of dying humans, where it lays its eggs that look like pearls. The relatives of the dying try to snatch the pearl-eggs, and when they do so the little spiderlings come out, and insert a very special venom into their veins. In the first stage, the venom causes the victim to believe themselves to be imaginary. This wears off in a couple of hours. In the second stage, all of the memories of the ailing are copied and transferred into the minds of the would-be thieves, and thus are preserved.
I identify with this spider because I am (in my opinion)a conventionally ugly girl who makes beautiful things. I am obsessed with memory and history, and it is from second hand memories and my own thoughts that I make my art. I may seem scary at first, but I am really harmless and constructive. I weave stories the way that spiders weave webs. I use my story-webs to try to catch people (like flies) and make them think or feel something meaningful or beautiful.

Dolphins live in this vast beautiful expanse of ocean, free to go wherever their hearts wish (or their stomach calls out to lol). Without a doubt, a mermaid. I love the sea and everything that has to do with it, and I also embrace my sexuality. Mermaids were said to sing songs and distract people from what they were doing, sometimes for their demise. They are also vain creatures that are often depicted with a hair comb or a mirror and their beauty is surreal. I can relate with mermaids because they are very beautiful, alluring creatures that one must also heed caution around. And I’m the very same way!

The phoenix, hands down. I have been through a lot in my life that has severely broken me in some way. But I’ve had to fight hard to get back up and come back even stronger than before. I also think that the Phoenix has a loyalty to the earth which I share. I try hard to be kind and gentle to every creature. I also have a stroke of confidence and wit that stings like fire if you get too close too soon, but once I’ve gotten to know you, I’m loyal for life.

They are powerful, proud, independent creatures – and they are so much like house cats at the same time :) They can’t purr (I asked at the zoo the other day) but apart from that they are just as moody, fluffy, up-to-no-good as a pussycat. They’re serene and graceful, big enough to mostly be left alone by predators, but despite their size they’re gentle and eat one of the smallest animals in the sea, krill. They sing to each other, and they just seem so wise and peaceful to me. Sometimes I wish I was a whale so I could live in the ocean.

Actually, one of my favorite songs ever is called “一匹狼論”, “Lone Wolf Theory,” which talks about someone who doesn’t necessarily need to be loved; they enjoy their solitude as much as they do their company.

I identify mostly with a Cheetah. When i was younger, i would go into the library of my primary school and choose books about wild cats so i could read the parts about Cheetahs. I would repeatedly dream about having a Cheetah as a best friend so i could take to school and be protected from those who picked on me. I am 24 years old now and believe the Cheetah in my dreams has accompanied me since i was a little girl. It’s there to protect me, show me how to survive even in times when others try to poach me, show me importance of rarity, be prideful and adapt in new environments & situations.

we’re both tall creatures who sleep a lot, and tend to stay to ourselves (i believe that they like me do it because they feel awkward about everything) and yet we both attract a lot of attention with our looks. of course i’m not pink, but with my style i might as well be!

I’m gonna mirror what some people above me said – I identify with cats. They’re loving, but they’re not dependent on anyone. They all really seem to have personalities too – I have Olive, who’s like a hyperactive four year old, Max, who’s more like a grumpy old man XD
As for a mythic creature, I love mermaids. Don’t really know too much about them, but I think living under water would be awesome. Except the sharks :o

I’d have to say maybe a cat. Not very interesting, but they are agile, soft creatures. They like to look good (look at the amount of grooming they do!), and are independant unless, of course, they want something. I think that I am quite an indepent person, I prefer working alone rather than in groups. However, if I do want something I will ask! I like to look good at all times, and am kind, caring and sympathetic. So yeah, that’s why I think I would most relate to a cat.

I really identify with leopard geckos (I have 3 as pets, formerly 4). They’re happy to just spend their time alone, asleep on their heating pads all day (I wish I had the time to do that every now and then). They’re very independent creatures, but they seem to value relationships as well, be it with other geckos or with people. When one of my little ones passed away last year, we found her “room mate” with her arms around her body, which showed me that they really loved each other, and it made me happy that she didn’t die alone.

This response seems a bit overdone, but I identify with Cats. I considered a peacock and a hummingbird, but I can’t identify with something I hardly know anything about.
Cats are my comfort animals. I stalk Caturday like a fiend. When I’ve had a bad day I go look for a kitty to snuggle with. I could go on and one about why cats are so awesome, but I don’t seem to be the only aspiring cat lady here, so I shall spare you all the rant. :)

I relate to cats. Why? I believe cats are quite misunderstood creatures. Most people identify cats are distant, finicky, can come off snobbish. But in reality, after their guard goes down, they are one of the sweetest creatures ever who will do anything they can to make their companion happy, and are dedicated to keep your friendship until their departure. I find this very similar to me, a lot of people think of me as stuck up or “too good to talk to you” because I have a fear of being hurt by others, but if you get to know me, I have quite a big heart. Maybe this is why I find my little angels better companions than most humans…

I think I identify most with panthers. Most people I know are terrified of them, but I think they have a sort of dangerous and gothic beauty. Every once in a while I have these dreams where I’m taking a nap in the woods with my head resting on a panther’s stomach. I’ve never looked it up on one of those “interpret your dreams” sites or asked a psychologist about it, but it gives me warm fuzzy feelings anyway. :)
I also really love mermaids, but I don’t think I identify with them in any way.

Polar bears!
Little Polar Bear
White as the snow
Sat on the ice
Near the cold water’s flow.
I am hungry, he said
and made a wish
Then stuck in his paw
And pulled out a fish!
I love them so much. beautiful white glistening creatures. They’re feared yet, so lovable. My mother is a biologist, so we study polar bears. I once had a baby polar bear in my lap! They represent a fight against the evil in the world (pollution). If they become extinct, children will probably look at them as mythical creatures. I identify with their strength and beauty.

I definitely could not see myself as anything else. Just earlier today my roommate threw a bag of chips at me and I started batting at it! And I have Jingle Cats on repeat right now…
…okay just so I don’t sound totally batty (or should I say catty? :>)… I identify with cats mainly because I admire them so. Their regal elegance and aloof sense of reality keep them entirely unruffled even when the human chaos around them is unbearable, and they seem to know far more than we could ever comprehend in our day-to-day concentration. They are zen, cunning, and brilliant. Not to mention easily distracted by the most random things– a clear sign of genius! :)
As a side-note, Bukowski’s cat poems contain something very similar to the way I feel about these creatures. Needless to say, I aspire to identify with them!

The octopus. The octopus is a highly intelligent and versatile creature, that is rarely ever given credit. I’m an intellectual. I know so much information I can barely keep it to myself at times. Yet I’m rarely given the opportunity to really showcase my brain, because more often than not people don’t want to hear how the small things that are usually taken for granted can be so amazing. I’m also fantastic at troubleshooting and tend to think abstractly.
The octopus is surrounded in a world full of colour and majesty, yet they are so unlike all the fish swimming around them. I find the world to be an amazing place, and I can find beauty almost anywhere, even in the most drab of places. Yet I always feel to be a bit of a loner. I can play well with others, but I tend to feel a barrier between myself and them. And despite knowing the answer, I rarely raise my head.
And while I find the octopus to be a charming creature, many others overlook it completely simply because it’s shy. I myself tend to fall between the cracks when it comes to being noticed because despite my grandeur imagination I tend to be too meek. And I always want to just show what I’m capable of.
This is just one animal I can find myself identifying with. There are others, because I’m a complex creature who’s ever changing, but the octopus is definitely one of the animals close to my heart.

My favorite animals and the animals I most identify with are octopi (and cuttlefish)!
Octopi are mysterious creatures, odd-looking (beautiful in my opinion) but very gentle. Due to their unusual appearance, people once believed they were monsters. I’m a quiet and rather unusual person myself; lots of people think I’m a bitch until they actually get to know me.
The octopus is a smart creature, and often misunderstood. Many octopi have the ability to change color and texture, depending on their mood and environment, much like I love all different kinds of fashion and makeup styles!

Since they represent Immortality. They look so innocent, but can eat posinous snakes without any harm! My favorite though is thier beautiful feathers, they shead these once a year, and they allways get more beautiful, and colourfull! I relate to them since they are a symbol of beauty. The mongoose. I like random animals and ever since I read Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Books featuring a story called Rikki-tikki-tavi I have loved the little creatures. In the story a young mongoose is taken into a human home and winds up saving the humans by eliminating the family of cobras that were lying in wait to attack the family.
Like Rikki-tikki-tavi I’m fiercely protective of the people I love, but I am a bit of a loner. I can be a bit (okay…very) headstrong and indignant, I can be a bit sneaky, I’m proud of myself when I accomplish my goals, and I don’t need to be told what to do in order to see what needs to be done. I’m not sure if most (real) mongeese have similar attributes to the character by Kipling so it’s his animal I relate to. Plus I love the way he wrote Rikki’s thought process. I love Rikki’s war cry, I have my own, but I really only use it when I kill spiders.

I identify most with three animals, actually. The first, and most important, is the tiger. I was born in the year of the tiger, and I associate them with a fiery spirit, stemming from the poem by William Blake called “The Tyger”. I think the most telling part is the last stanza:
Tyger! Tyger! burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?
When I say “fiery spirit,” I don’t mean a quick temper or anything like that. I mean a sort of hidden passion. The other two animals also relate to this theme: the phoenix and the dragon. They are all a bit surreal and of course the last two are fantastical. Anyway, they represent an idea of hidden and often untamable passion.

They’re California’s state bird (Woo-hoo!!). And, they’re really brave, I mean, when was the last time you ran across the road when a thing about 100 times your size is carreeing towards you.

A kangaroo.
A few years ago I would have never picked this animal. But recently I have realized that I am extremely over protective of people I love, especially “the young”. I have developed this heat of protection for my two little brothers and would do everything in my power to keep them safe and happy. Just like they are my little Joeys!
Plus when European explores came to Australia they found kangaroos to be very strange animals. They thought they were like deer without antlers, frogs because of their hop and stood up like animals. I like to change personalities. And I think people who don’t know me probably think I’m a little weird when they first meet me.

Oh, the owl. They’re the only animals that have almost all of everything ever used to describe me, for better or for worse– they’re noisy and fierce and introverted and adorable and icy and elegant and classy and curious and intimidating. They’re contradictory and enigmatic and maybe even a little bit ridiculous sometimes.
If I were a boy, I’d say seahorse.

A butterfly. <3
I feel this way because I used to be incredibly shy and I hid myself away from others to the point where I built a cocoon around myself. But one day I realized there needed to be a change and I was able to break free from the cocoon to be able to be free and fly like a butterfly.

I identify with the bird family Corvidae (ravens, crows, magpies, rooks, jays etc).
Robustly built, with plumage that is black, black and white, blueish, greenish, grayish, brownish and/or purpleish (kind of explains my general hair color theory). They are intelligent, playful, aggressive, gregarious, will come to the call of a fellow bird in trouble to fight off predators, and great problem/puzzle solvers.
They fit me to a T, and I absolutely adore all corvids!

I identify with otters. They are playful and fun, and pretty fearless as well. (I loved the showdown between the otters and the crocodile on Planet Earth.) I like being alone when I’m comfortable in a situation, but I’ve got good friends who I can depend on everywhere I go. Also ever since I was little, I’ve spent as much time as I could in the water. Even in the middle of winter, I feel the urge to dive into the river every time I drive across the bridges between Canada and the US. (Which I do on a regular basis.)

I totally identify with dinosaurs. They are such remarkable animals that completely ruled the world back millions of years ago. They are in a sense a bit magical because some people actually believe that they didn’t even exist, yet there is evidence found everyday confirming their existence. It makes me realize that even though I strive to be a great and powerful person there will always be someone around who will doubt you regardless of what you are able to prove. So I must always remember that no matter what anyone says, I can be great and remarkable and I will leave my mark, just like the dinosaurs have left their mark on our planet.

I identify with a creature from Greek mythology, Kerberos, the three-headed wolf-like dog that guards the entrance to the underworld. Not because it sounds fancy. I have been with this creature in my life for as long as I can remember. When I was a child, it used to live under my bed. Because I was scared of what it stands for, I used to be so afraid of it, I pushed it away for years. But it’s been with me again for the past year. Don’t think I’m mental, seeing dogs, just because I can’t deny that to me, it exists. I regard it as real as I regard my mind. It stands for certain things in my life, that are so significant and entirely conclusive about who I am, that they manifested in this being. Take it as a metaphor. I like the way it helps me learn by observing.

Ever since I was little I have identified with cheetahs. They seem to have an inner calm that many other species don’t. Plus, they are just so beautiful. Since I am tall and have the illusion of longated limbs, I feel like we have that in common. The cheetahs are such peaceful and gorgeous animals. I love their tear marks in the creases of their eyes. I have freckles, and one of my darkest freckles is in the trail of where a tear would fall. Recently, someone told me it reminded them of a tear mark and I got super excited because I instantly thought of cheetahs. Now I love that particular freckle that much more. The chirping noise of the cheetah is one of my favorite qualities as well. It’s quiet and almost melodic. I’m a rather quiet person, and if I want to be heard in a crowd, I try to make sure my input will be vital. I won’t raise my voice to be heard in a group of strangers. But don’t get me wrong, I do have a temper and can attack. It can end up being a speedy attack, too. You won’t even see it coming. I think cheetahs and I have the same temperaments. Haha.
I could add so much more! Cheetahs are, and will always be, my favorite animal. They are peaceful, breathtaking creatures. It breaks my heart that they are being killed off.

I think the animal I identify most with is a cat. Any type of cat, really. Their personalities are what relates to me most. I love to sleep! The more of it I get, the better! I’m really anal about cleanliness. If I’m getting up to go somewhere early, I have to take a shower, even if I took a shower before I went to bed. I think I relate to cats in that way too because they’re constantly cleaning their fur! I think cats also have very strong personalities. They will cuddle up next to you when they’re feeling lovable, but when they want you to stay the hell away, they will promptly jump off your lap and walk away without a second thought. I think cats are very independent creatures, yet still enjoy having someone to love all over, which I definitely relate to. They can be very spastic and odd (springing into the air a good five feet whenever a vacuum turns on, for instance), but aren’t we all like that in some way? :P

But I’ve been a swimmer since before I can remember – feeling a very innate connection to water and all of beauty and mystery that it contains. Of course, there are many animals in the ocean, but I think I approach the ocean with the same sense of play and wonderment that dolphins seem to. They don’t just exist in the ocean, but extract every bit of fun and enjoyment out of it with great verocity – from it’s surfaces to its depths. That’s how I like to approach life, and how I would absolutely approach the ocean, had I been gifted with gills. :)

I’ve always been drawn to cats of all types, however, the summer before my Freshman year of high school, I took a Native American vision quest type thing to discover my totem. Normal totems consist of a couple of animals, each connected to a different chakra. While my friend who did this with me came up with all sorts of animals, I had one: a black panther.
Dark, mysterious, sleek and sexy, the connection made sense to me. Since then, I’ve really taken the panther on as my spirit animal. Looking back on my life, black panthers have always seen to be with me: my mother had a black cat when I was born (okay, so that’s not a panther, but still!) and once she died, I wanted another one. Not to mention, it was no wonder that in 5th grade, when we were putting on The Jungle Book, I wanted nothing more than to play Bageera!

I only ever seem to see peacock prints and peacock feathers used in womens’ clothes and accessories, but what a lot of people tend to forget is that those stunning blue plumes actually belong to the male of the species. I’m quite a fey, theatrical boy who’s very fond of dressing up and showing off, but it’s very difficult to maintain poise and grace in a world ridden with homophobia where any men who are interested in things other than sport and ogling women are considered weak or “sissies”. I’ve had abuse hurled at me on more occasions than I care to recall for the way I present myself and on bad days it’s difficult not to just hide away in drab clothing to avoid drawing attention to myself. If I’m going somewhere special and I need a confidence boost, I always wear a peacock feather to remind me to let my fabulousness shine through without worrying what other people might think.
They embody so many other qualities I admire aside from glamour and stylishness as well: in Greek and Roman mythology the “eyes” on their tail feathers represented wisdom and learning, which is particularly inspirational for me in my academic career since I believe it’s important to always be curious and keep your eyes – and mind – open. But perhaps my favourite thing about peacocks is their ability to eat poisonous plants and even small snakes without suffering any ill effects – I see it as a reminder that negative experiences and people can make you stronger instead of undermining you.
They’re often portrayed as vain, but I see peacocks as noble, glamorous and wise creatures. So I’m not sure whether I identify with them so much as aspire to be like them, but I’ve drawn so much inspiration from them over the years that I’m in the process of designing a tattoo of a peacock feather so that I can always carry one around with me when I need a reminder to be graceful and glamorous and not let life’s obstacles drag me down.
As if that wasn’t endorsement enough, Oscar Wilde – one of my personal heroes – always kept peacock feathers in his room at Oxford, and if they were good enough for him…

the animal i identify most with is a phoenix.
Just like a phoenix i possess the power to be born again. ( Not literally, of course.) But i have the power to take all the bad things that have happened all the mistakes i have made, and leave them behind. The old me has died, but out of those ashes i have risen even more beautiful than before. I have taken it all and become a better person. Just like a phoenix, i’ve been born again.

I’d have to say a dragon. The can be beautiful, or ugly. Often they are fiery, tough, raw things, but I think they are misunderstood. It’s probably cause they are big and breathe fire. As well, many people try to slay a dragon (bring me down), but in the end the can fly away.
I wanna get a dragon tattoo. 8D

Although everyone seems to like cats, I’d pick a rodential kind of animal. I’m not sure which, but maybe a squirrel.
I’m always super jittery and I notice things way out of my normal vision and usually react very strangely. I love sitting around in the winter months, gearing up for a new season change. It’s silly, but now that I have a pet squirrel, I see that we are wayyy too alike for my own good!! Sleeping habits and all!
Mystically, I would love to relate to unicorns, but I can’t at all, minus the glittery magic parts.

There is a particular animal that has come up recently for me to identify with: the wolf. At first, one thinks of “the lone wolf” but one thing that wolves are well known for is loyalty to their pack. If that pack consists of only themselves, well that works too. The wolf is a beautiful, fierce and misunderstood creature. They deserve respect.

I most identify with hummingbirds because they can be plain-looking until you see them in the sunlight when their feathers shimmer; they are constantly moving from one source of nutrition to another and I do that too (not just with food, though, also with “emotional nutrients” like love, friendship and kindess); they fly away when they are scared or startled (that’s a bad habbit I’ve had for a long time); and, though they are free (because they can fly) as most birds are, they do not have quite as much freedom as most since they must constantly feed–therefore, they are probably constantly longing to fly farther and farther, but are always held back or delayed, which is something I definitely relate to.

Their scientific name is Galidia elegans, and who can’t love a creature who comes in such wonderful colors and patterns? They have a sweet tooth; they’re stories of them raiding camps for jam jars and other sweet things. I am constantly fascinated by everything, and Kipling said the mongoose Rikki-Tikki-Tavi loved to “run and find out.” And just like the mongoose, I happen to have a nasty case of “momma bear.” I’ll defend my friends and family, and try to keep them from hurting each other as well.

I love mermaids, because they are very elegant and beautiful. They are the type of creature that men fawn over, and search for in the sea. They can wear beautiful seashells in their hair, and hide among the algae and coral. It must be amazing to swim all day and travel so far. Freedom.

I definitely identify with mermaids most! They aren’t human but they aren’t really animals, are they? And so many animals have human characteristics…It blurs the lines.
Mais, le sujet: My middle name is Marina, a name which has ocean origins. I get a lot of inspiration for my own look from the sea and sea creatures. I love analyzing Greek mythology and who can forget about the Sirens? Mermaids are traditionally extraordinarily beautiful but in a unique way; they wear shell, coral, or pearl jewelry, have glittering scales, healthy but unorthodox colored hair, and are partially nude when, in most literature movements or art periods they were created in, that was considered taboo. They are very sensual.
To me, mermaids are mythical creatures that represent the girl who everyone loves and wants to emulate because of her Gleeful personality and style!

Dragons. They are majestic, beautiful and very colorful creatures. They are intelligent and wise and don’t care to immerse themselves in daily matters or earthly troubles.
To me dragons are not evil just disinterested and bothered by everyone. They come in plenty of lovely deep shades and various sizes and like to play games involving riddles and puzzles.
They like admiring beauty (reason they always collect maidens) and I identify with that since I love to imagine myself as a dragon when I take pictures collecting beautiful things (like portraits of my friends, or my ‘maidens’)
When I was younger I thought I couldn’t be a dragon because I was a girl, but now I know that’s not true! I can be a shimmering green dragon if I wish and I do!
If I do fall in love I believe that person will also be a dragon. My friends actually call my imaginary loves my ‘dragons’.
so if anything I’d like to be a great and wondrous green dragon collecting shining beautiful things to surround myself with. ♥

I’m independent, nothing can hold me back, like dragons, and just like they’re strong, fierce, and dangerous, I’m strong (mentally, not physically), fierce, but not really dangerous. I could probably be dangerous if I tried though… Plus, I wish I could fly away like they can. I think I was spoiled by having two of the best Disney films ever created during my formative years, so ever since I was a kid I have longed to be a lion!! But my parents told me I could never be one, so I decided instead to be an actress, thinking “surely I can be a lion/princess/unicorn/angel/mermaid then!!” Even now, I still want to be a lion, though.
And not to suck up, but my godmother always bought me unicorn things–toys, books, movies– because she says I’m “half-Unicorn” and a “Unicorn Princess”. Maybe that’s why I love reading your blog so much, Doe Deere!! We’re from the same Unicorn-land :D

Do octopi count? Because I seriously identify with octopi as of late — as in, as of today. Why? Well, I’m glad you asked:
They are cuter than you’d think, squishy, smarter than they should be for clam cousins (as in shield-wielding, puzzle-solving, tank-escaping, humor-having denizens of the deep smart), and are wildly undervalued.
Also, I just read how there are certain breeds now using coconut halves suctioned to their underbellies while they tiptoe about underwater as portable campers/camouflage in case of predators and/or food.
Please don’t ask me where underwater invertebrates harvest coconuts. I think it’s best we just don’t ask.

The Questing Beast or often referred to as Pellinore’s Beast. Her proper name is Glatisant. She is from an Arthurian legend. She has a dragon/serpent’s head, the haunches of a lion, a leopard body, and the legs of a hart. This beast is made up of many things and I can relate to that because I am made up of a lot of different things as well. I often feel that I have the head of an owl because I am wise mixed with the head of a deer because I often choose not to use my common sense (they never get out of the road!). I feel that I have the body of serpent or a sphinx because I tend to be a seductress and slip through the cracks in every situation. My legs are like that of a strong ostrich because I always seem to be running around or working on something.
“She seems always to be a step ahead of her pursuer(s). She seems to relish being
chased, but doesn’t want to be caught. There’s even one tale of how she fell in love
with Sir Palomides! But she is never depicted as just a strange dumb beast. Her ability
to avoid her pursuers shows that she is quite intelligent.”
This quote is given in the story of her origin and it explains me perfectly.

I love many animals and many fantastical creatures but I have to chose the Greek Siren. Sometimes they are half fish, diving into the subconscious. Sometimes they are half bird, flying to the realm of dreams. Maybe this confusion leads to their bad habit of luring sailors to their deaths. Is it the sirens’ fault that they live on a rocky island that turns ships into match sticks? I also feel like I’ve traveled through many realms. I sing to communicate my emotions, it’s something I can’t NOT do. Maybe I should get some signs made… “Please enjoy the music from a distance.”

I actually created an animal in my dremslast night and then was super shocked when I saw this!
I can’t rmemeber its name now i’m not dreaming but it was incredible. It was about thigh high, a beautiful golden shimmery colour and a cross between a pony, a seal and a dragon. It was so peaceful and it had these big eyes that just followed you everywhere.
So yes, that would be me. My beautiful little dream creature. Shiney and glittery, not easy to understand, but caring for everyone.

I love watching horses, they are so strong, tall and proud. Wild and free, caring, passionate and they communicate in a very simple and direct way.
Maybe it’s not just that I identify myself with horses but also feel like they are something to look up to.
I know, it sounds a bit odd… but really! Horses are my idols.
When I was a girl I used to make obstacle courses in the garden using dads tools and moms garden furniture and challenge myself to jump higher and run faster and become better, just like a horse. I even turned the belvedere into a stable covering the floor with sawdust. Also I collected miniature model horses and played with. I guess I was and still am a tomboy, I never stopped playing horse (I’m 22 now) because late nights after taking the bus home from a party or club I still gallop my way home, happy and free!

Apparently I had a way of sitting that reminded my friends of a cat… Anyway, I began to identify myself with cats. I mean, they’re elegant, proud and cute at the same time, who wouldn’t want to be one? But then at university, when I started studying japanese, I got the nickname Kotori, “small bird” in japanese. And again, I really do not have anything against that nickname either. But they’re both nicknames created by others, and don’t know really what animal I myself identify with… Maybe a flying cat?

Perhaps I’m predictable and boring, but I identify myself with the wolf. Or better, the she-wolf. A.k.a. the lupa of the roman mythology. It’s partly because I’m roman and the wolf is the symbol of Rome, partly because the wolf is a lot like me: mysterious and melancholic. It’s also an anachronistic animal: he’s immer attacked and no one likes him…. it’s more a romantic creature than a real animal. I love the legendary figure of the wolfes, I love the idea you can become a werewolf, as well as I love any wolf-story.
I also love the ambivalence of the wolf, it’s victim and it’s carneficent, which is very me… to say it with Coleridge:
“For the shepherds must go
With lance and bow
To hunt the wolf in the woods to-day.
Samuel T. Coleridge.”
And then the wolf is also a fashionable animal, both classical and elegant. Always perfectly good-looking…. and if you imagine it with a touch of red blood, the chromatism goes even better.
Plus it’s linked to both snow and night, light and darkness.
Ambivalent, complex, fascinating, sensual, dangerous but poetical…..
What can you desire more?

The only way to kill one is with a spear and a lot of luck. I realized it when I saw what you wrote about cats: ” love cats because unlike dogs, they don’t attach themselves simply to whoever gives food. They are independent and you must really earn a cat’s love. Once you have it, however, it’s forever.”
I’m exactly the opposite. I always (and will always) need someone who would take care of me; I’m not independant at all and I just don’t to be. I scared of loneliness and always need people around me to hug me and reassure me. It certainly seems pathetic ahah!

Not any dog, but my beautiful dog Chu
She was abandoned in front of my house in a box on a rainy day… I heard her crying and went out and brought her in! (duuuuh) Fed her and then she just wouldn’t leave! At first I thought she was just hungry, but then I learned that she felt like she owed me something… You see, I live with my parents, and the first one to get up is my dad… and it’s him that feeds the pets, but unlike the other dog I have, Lady, Chu just didn’t developed a special bond with my dad just because he feeds her everyday… She’s amaizingly attached to me!
She weeps everytime I go to school, and gives me that look that is truly sad! She doesn’t let anyone else even touch me when she’s around, she cleans my tears if I cry and naps with me when I fall asleep on the grass… She the most loyal creature in the entire world!
