1. I have green hair.

That’s right, green! Evidence. I dye it a deeper red but after a few weeks get green roots. Most people consider it strawberry blonde but it’s really just green with red highlight! I’ve only met 2 others with the same type of hair and we all tell the same story: blonde when little, green at puberty. Apparently there is also a book that describes a girl with hair like that – does that mean there’s more of us?! Come out, green-haired sisters! :)

2. I made a lipstick after my grandma.

In her youth, my grandmother wore a bright carrot lipstick, her signature color. It looked stunning against her white skin, dark eyebrows and green eyes. Because I wasn’t allowed to have it, my desire to possess it was torturous. :) I created My Beautiful Rocket to emulate that shade – a pure luminous orange with no red or coral undertones. Now it’s mine!

3. My favorite horror film is A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Not necessarily weird, just a fun fact. My mother took me to see it when I was merely 10 years old – needless to say, I spent most of my young life terrified of the man in the dirty hat!!! Haha. I re-discovered the franchise later on, and fell in love with the idea of dream becoming reality. I hear there’s a remake on the way???

World’s most stylish boogie man, Freddy Krueger!

4. I have every single color in my wardrobe except orange.

No offense grams, I just don’t like things competing with my hair. ;) There is no prevalent color, it’s all a very balanced mix of pinks, blues, greens, reds and purples.

5. My right foot is 1/2″ (half a size) larger than my left.

Most people’s limbs are uneven but this is ridiculous! I never know which shoes to buy, 7 or 7.5. Sometimes I’ll wear a foot pad in one shoe, other times a thicker sock is in order, haha.

6. I’ve never met my biological father.

My mother divorced and re-married when I was very young, and I was raised by my step dad. I never knew he wasn’t my real father because he treated me like his own. I discovered my true origins by accident, while looking through old medical records and spying a different last name. When confronted, my mom at first said it was a clerical mistake, but later came clean (I was almost 16 at the time). Unfortunately, my real father died young so I never got to meet him. I did acquire a new granfather as a result though, a retired captain who lives in Ukraine. This explains my odd interest in the sea.

7. I have an unhealthy obsession with mermaids.

Kids don’t censor themselves, so it’s usually the best time to learn about one’s true nature. I remember my kindergarten teacher asking us what we wanted to be when we grew up. Most named “veterinarian”, “astronaut”, and “ballerina” as an occupation of choice, and my answer was “mermaid”. Come to think of it, 90% of my early drawings featured a mermaid, usually perched on a rock, with a hair comb in one hand. I later found out that children who display such interest in these sea creatures often have a conflicted gender identity. To me, a mermaid is a feminine identity that is independent from its sexual organ. Plus, they are beautiful and I fit right in with my green hair! :)
