Architecture of Candyfuture, Pt 3
Category: Candyfuture

“Stop being yourself and become who you’ve always wanted to be.” – Paulo Coelho
Persons of great imagination often build ideal worlds around them – somewhere they could be themselves, with no boundaries. Some are partial to powdered wigs of the Victorian era, others daydream of a quiet countryside; I come from a world of succulent colors, futuristic shapes, crystals & unicorns. Like everyone else, I tried to contain that world at first for the fear of being judged or called crazy. But like liquid color, it’s been finding its way out, oozing through the cracks into my reality, until one day I finally decided not to hold back any more and let go. What happened next left me speechless. The universe I’d been confining in for so long burst forth with such fantastical force, it broke down all barriers and freed me as an artist and as a person.
What started out as a fantasy, became concrete very quickly. Candyfuture and Candyfuturism – the phenomenon referring to living out your life the way you envision it – became my life philosophy. I’m ecstatic to finally share it with others!
So, what is Candyfuturism?
Candyfuturism is a belief system where one is responsible for building their own ideal future. Candyfuture is your future. I often make an emphasis on the importance of being true to self and not caving in to pressure on this blog. For an aspiring Candyfuturist, this is only the beginning. The real challenge lies not in being rigid and resisting change, but welcoming it and bringing it about yourself. People take the future for granted and do nothing to earn it; they think it will come whether they sit or stand, rise or fall. The quality of such future is questionable. Candyfuturist understands he cannot control what’s to come but continuously moves towards his goal, thus assuring a better tomorrow.

I find architecture to be one of the most fascinating professions in the world because it involves planning, building and dreaming all at the same time. It always starts out with an idea – that tiny, silvery thread sparking through your mind – nurtured by ambition & love for what you do, it grows and develops into a concept. But that concept alone, no matter how brilliant, is not enough! It takes determination and an iron work ethic to see it to completion, perform the magic of turning immaterial into material. The Candyfuturist is an architect of his own fate: fully aware of his environment, he dreams of the bigger and better tomorrow. He decides to build it not out of escapism, but the desire to optimize and test his own ability. He takes risks because they are necessary for invention; besides, they give him a thrill. He never speaks ill of competition because without it, what would challenge him to outperform himself? The process of such creation is beautiful: full of grace and purpose, not a single move jerky or accidental. A Candyfuturist paints his future with a steady hand.
What happens when a Candyfuturist begins work on his edifice? Crowds gather around. They will gawk, spend a little too much time expressing their indifference, scrutinize the way brick is laid. They’ll try to tear him down – but he won’t notice any of it. Engrossed in his magnificent project that is his own life, Candyfuturist aims to please himself first and foremost. He does so not out of selfishness or egotism, but because he realizes that by achieving personal happiness he makes the world a happier place.

Xenia, you’re so inspiring.
I remember back when you were on primarily on Ebay and sold all of your creations and glitters and you had makeup tutorials that I loved and always thought I’d never have enough courage to pull off myself… Your blog is fantastic and I just can’t believe the amazing experiences you’ve been able to have, congratulations on your life and where it’s taken you!
Thank you <3

I believe I’ve been a candyfuturist for quite some time now. I have a clear vision of my future- an alt. model, living in new york, with colored hair and a ferret. I’ll make tofu burgers and have friends over for dinner. I will be a zoo keeper by day, and a model/MUA/photog by night! Even though I’m only a 14 year old in some conservative town south of Raleigh, I swear to live out my dream. Nothing will get in the way of that. I choose to wear what I want to, act how I want, and be myself. I know that there are bigger and better things out there- I will never live a worthless, middle-class existence, even if It kills me!

You’re so inspiring, Xenia. I think I’ve already implemented some Candyfuture into my life. I used to care what people thought, but now it all just kind of slides off. I may not be the best writer, or the best painter, or the best makeup-put-onner, but I’m going to do it anyway because I like it.
BTW, have you seen the new Candyfuture-inspired tutorial on Padmita’s Makeup Blog? It’s beautiful!

The new layout is lush Xenia, well done.
I think I may turn to the Candyfuturist lifestyle. I have started to believe that self-happiness is the key to a successful future. More Candy Futuristic posts please.

I want to be a candyfuturist, but I need to figure out what my candyfuture is! For now, I think it means getting a black crinoline, and finding more clothes that I genuinely love.

The Paulo Coelho quote you posted made my day. It is officially my favorite quote ever ever ever. Just “being yourself” is much too constricting.

Also, I love your new banner, but it’s hard to see the words at the top. I think they would look great in turquoise or pink :)

I love the new header! I think that you’re amazing and truly inspirational. You really have helped me to accept myself for who I am and care less about what others think. I love your blog because whenever I read it, I not only get interesting things to read about and amazing articles along with dedicated updates – I also feel like an important, special individual, because of the way you preach being true to yourself. And I respect you so, so much for that. Excuse the embarrassingly emotional comment, I just wanted to show how much I appreciate your blog and admire your Candyfuturist ideas, because you’re amazing. Congratulations for everything.

It seems change is in the air! I too am revamping the way I look, feel, and more importantly, the way I do things. Life is what you make it, and I intend to make it great! I’m so glad I can share this journey with the world, and see where it takes us! Or more aptly, where we take ourselves!
xx

What an amazing, optimistic movement! I would love to see something like this spread. Bold colors like this do not fit my fashion, but certainly the philosophy of creating your own future is something I have always believed in!
I love this post, and hope to hear more about Candyfuturism in the…future!

I was about to comment that your post is kind of Ayn Rand – and When i got to the last comment posted Kat V had beat me to it! Everyone should read both Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged ~ at least twice each!

(I’ll have to check out Ayn Rand!)
As for the post – So very well said! And I love the Paulo Coehlo quote, I do wonder though, if anyone ever stops to think that the true self and the self we want to be are, in fact, the same exact thing?
~Side note: The new layout is really cute!
