Tales of the Unicorn Queen

Thursday was Audrey‘s last day in NYC so we went to a bakery on Lower East Side called Babycakes, known for vegan cupcakes. Audrey had the best chocolate mint cupcake of her life, and I ordered a sugar-gluten-godknowswhatelse-free scone which nonetheless cost me $4.75. It was worth it! I feel like when you remove all the extraneous sugars and flavorings, the true flavor comes out. Babycake’s slogan should be: “Everything-Free Except The Cupcakes.

I owed an explanation how at 5’2″ I ended up taller than her, haha.

For someone who’s traveling, Audrey pays a lot of attention to the way she is dressed. I learned the hard way that the minute you allow yourself to dress down, you’ll meet someone important on the plane. Murphy’s law!

  • I love Raquel Reed and I just thought that I where going to watch her movies on buzznet and I found a video when she interview you and I where wondering if I can find your make-up in sweden or if its coming to sweden soon?

All I know is that I saw these pictures and in my head went “holy crapple she is as short and audrey”… and then saw the next pictures with the heels and the explination and was flabber gasted that you are only 5’2!
    Just was not expecting that….
    Hurm.

Lovelovelove the unicorn necklace. And after a quick click I find out they deliver to all the states. Woohoo, must order.

  • Amber says:

Y’know, before I started reading this blog, I never in 100 years would’ve thought purple and yellow would go together. I’m always amazed at how cute they look in the outfits you wear.

And the unicorn necklace is wicked. It’s like a neon laser disc.

  • Padmita says:

LOVE the dress, especially with the lipstick! And yay for short girls – I’m 5′ 2” as well :)

  • Suzanne C. says:

Really they were good? that sounds unlikely i wonder what the suger substitute was? Maybe Xyletol, it’s the only decent one i’ve tasted. Splenda make me naseous and aspertame gives me a stomachache and they’re both terrible for you.
Well you look beautiful in the pics, I love the hair and the neclace especially. I need to get off my butt and cut (yeah i do it myself) and dye my hair its begging for a boost of red and you’re gorgeous locks are sickening at this point lol.
And yes i’m pretty much stalking your blog right now because i have 5 days off of school.Plus a girls gotta do something on the commercials of this so-lame-it’s-hilarious soap.

  • I went to a vegan restaurant once, and ordered this vegan blueberry pie which tasted…bland. I wonder what they did to the cupcakes to make them taste yummy. I gotta go to NYC to find out dammit!

    Your dress is so cute.

  • Neek says:

Ooh is that a unicorn hanging from your neck ^O^ ? Love it, Audrey’s nails look amazing xx

  • Ekerplay says:

Maybe it’s the magical powers of the unicorn controlling my brain and causing me to be so forward, but, um, I think I love you!!

    You both look absolutely gorgeous!

    xxxxxBisous, Ekerplay

  • Luna says:

That is the most lovely dress in the world!!!

  • Claire says:

I’m glad to see that you liked their cupcakes! Babycakes was the first place I found on my own when I moved to NYC and I love their cupcakes.

  • Abbeykins says:

MissPurpleCat, Babycakes put out a cookbook earlier this summer! :) I bought it and can’t wait to try out the gluten free stuff.

You both look so lovely and summery! I’m still drooling over those yellow shoes and am totally trying to justify the cost, haha!

  • Rosie says:

I love the necklace, it is so pretty!

    You, dress down?! Never!

Cupcakes in all forms, vegan or otherwise, are fantastic, but it seems like vegan cupcakes are really having their moment to shine lately. I think it’s cool: they’re delicious more often than not (I really want to try the chocolate mint one now!) and cruelty-free is always nice…

I adore that dress you’re wearing! It looks like someone took a little parasol and made an outfit out of it.

  • Amy says:

Oh I could go for a vegan cupcake! I think I may go bake one.

And you look so vibrant. Your outfits are so well put together and interesting.

  • Yay, the unicorn looks great on you (unsurprising, everything looks great on you!), and great to see the size doesn’t overpower your petite frame at all. :D

The dress is gorgeous and your lipstick matches perfectly.

    Adorable once again!

  • Alice says:

Where did that dress come from> It’s ADORABLE!

  • Becca says:

Omigoshomigoshomigosh you both look absolutely adorable!
I don’t suppose for a minute you know where Audrey got her shoes from do you? Because they would match a gorgeous sequin top I bought at a market the other day PERFECTLY!
And you belt is so cute too. Oh, the envy…! :)

  • diana says:

love the purse and your United Nude shoes.

  • Alzy says:

Babycakes is magical! Audrey’s shoes are so cute! I want them. Have you tried the vegan ice cream at Lulu’s Sweet Apothecary in the East Village yet? It’s unbelievable!

  • Coco says:

Oh Doe! Thanks so much for posting this!! I’m gluten intolerant and can’t have much sugar or dairy. Maybe I’ll be able to indulge in these goodies without getting a tummy ache!!
*off to get the cook book*

    Regards,
    Coco

  • Ariana says:

I LOOOOOVE Babycakes! I bought their cookbook and visited the bakery during my trip to New York this past summer, and I’m craving them now! Too bad they don’t deliver to Canada :(

Also, to Suzanne C – the sugar substitute they use is agave syrup, a plant-derived sweetener that has the consistency of honey. It is naturally sweeter than sugar, so you can use less of it, and it does not absorb as quickly into the bloodstream, so there are no sugar highs or crashes!

  • Tessa says:

ur sooo right! everytime you try to go outside without make-up and hair in a ponytail you will meet a hot guy for sure!

  • Suzanne C. says:

Thanks so much for answering my question Ariana! I must try it I’m on a diet and my mom has diabetes so it’s a possible lifesaver! =)
