Accessories

  • Dress & belt: Vintage
  • Shoes: Cynthia Vincent
  • Purse: Holly Would
  • Necklace & rings: Forever 21, rose ring gifted by a friend
  • Socks: Betsey Johnson
  • Nails: Barry M in Spring Green
  • Eyes: Magic Dust in Abracadabra
  • Lips: Countessa Fluorescent (pink) and Mint To Be (green)

These were taken in my new dining room — we pained the walls bright purple (brighter than the pictures would suggest) and have a few colorful chairs for extra whimsicality! The fan is actually for our Marie Antoinette-inspired bedroom, I just thought I’d use it before it goes up on the wall. :)

UPDATE: A photo from this shoot ended up on the NY Times Tumblr. Woo hoo! :)

“Battle Of The Lipsticks: Countessa VS Mint To Be”

Oh my, I really love your dress!! Also, I defenitley prefer Mint to be… it’s just a little less safe if you get me, like, Countessa Flourescent is great with the outfit, but Mint To Be is wilder!

  • with this particular look, I prefer Countessa… but Mint to be is awesome =)

And the walls are in the same color as my nail polish lol =)

  • Lisabeth says:

Countessa definitely for this look. Mint to be is a wonderful colour but I don’t think it faired well in this ensemble.

Lovely nail polish and gorgeous pictures!

  • Lena says:

For this outfit, I like Countessa. I love how it brings out the pinks in the dress and socks. I love Countessa so much, but I love how bold Mint to Be looks. I’m even wearing my Countessa today!

  • Kristina says:

Oh my golly! This shoot it total eye candy. *___* I can’t wait to try one of the new lipsticks! By the way, your eyebrows look AMAZING. They’re the first thing I noticed, haha.

  • Karen says:

Pretty as always Xenia. Though the socks are a bit wrong for the look. Love that lipstick, i don’t wear it enough!!

  • Meggles says:

Even though as a color, I like Countessa better, Mint To Be makes your eyeshadow pop in such an amazing way, I did a double take just to check whether you had done them differently!

  • Der Feedrache says:

I think CF goes better with the dress and eyes, IMO. The greens in the dress look a little more lime than mint. :/

  • Samantha says:

I like Mint to Be but it would look WAY better with a black-based shoe and no socks. It would still be plenty funky, trust me.. would just sharpen it a lot more and make it way more put together :) Black patent t-straps would be perfect imo!

  • Lisette says:

I LOVE how Mint To Be brings out the beautiful color in your eyes!! You know how to rock it!

  • Celeste says:

Countessa works better with this outfit but Mint to Be is fantastic! Not sure I could pull it off with my skin tone, though.

SOCKS AND OPEN TOE SHOES – oh my goodness, I think I just had a stylegasm. I had no clue it could be done, and done well. This opens up so many possibilities.

  • This is simply gorgeous and I cant choose between the two! I LOVE this photoshoot so much I think it might be my favorite out of all the ones you’ve ever done and I’ve been a fan for A LONG time!!!!!! OMG love ya!

Wow, thank you so much Elizabeth!

  • Magga says:

Countessa works better almost entirely because of the teeny bits of pink in the dress– gives the whole outfit pops of pink throughout (which pairs nicely with the pink socks and handbag/clutch/w/e), while Mint to Be unbalances that. Also makes the variety of colors in the dress subtly more noticeable, which I find is always a plus.

  • Melli says:

Hey Doe, I’m from Germany and I found your blog by a fluke. I really enjoy reading your posts because they’re always inspiring and different from what other bloggers post. Keep on doing what you are doing, it’s amazing!

    Melli

P.S. Could you please do a tutorial on the beautiful eye-make-up you’re wearing on the photos?

  • Clara Chérie says:

Countessa with your outfit. You look absolutely FAB!!! I love these pics! Hope everything is alright for you in LA!! <3

  • Lacy says:

Mint To Be is fantastic! However, I really love how Countessa Fluorescent looks with this look! I think it’s something to do with the way it ties in with the bits of pink in that lovely dress. Love it!

Also, love the little glimpses of your new place. Fabulous!

  • Courtney says:

To be honest, I hardley noticed the lipstick because your hair and eyebrows are so perfect!!! I love you as a blonde with DARK eyebrows!!

  • Kaiya says:

Hi Doe, I was just thinking about your post about vintage stores, and I know a great online one (although I don’t knoiw if it delivers to the US). I was on there and sa a few dresses I thought were quite you (forgive me if I’m wrong)

Great little shop, Kaiya! Thanks for sharing :)

    Glad to! :3

  • Natasha says:

The second photo for Mint to Be is absolutely sensuous!
I also agree with Courtney’s comment about the blonde + brows.

  • Rachel says:

    So hard to choose!
Pink for piratical reasons, but the green is just oh-so much fun!

For a moment, in the first image especially, I didn’t think it was Doe. your eyebrows are so hardcore.

  • Peyton says:

I think Mint To Be looks better on her with white hair.Countessa, not so much:)

  • Petunia says:

I love the MInt to Be, but not with the eye makeup. I think it goes well with the dress, but i would do a more nuetral cat eye with the rest of the look. I want to pair mint to be with super dark black eye makeup and a more modern dress!

  • invadersilke says:

“mint to be” is my fav…it’s very editorial! can´t wait to get mine, and it seems like it’s going arrive this saturday…
the eyebrows look amazing by te way, very bold…love the whole shoot :)

  • invadersilke says:

damn it I spelled wrong “the” and forgot the “to” as well…I really know how to masacre a language hehe

  • Lani says:

How is your house this beautifully organised already, Doe? I am so jealous! We are moving in 2 weeks and I know our new home will be chaotic for weeks afterwards!

  • Miss Kitty says:

with the brows and eye makeup, countessa! MTB would still look fab though if a little softer :)

  • Caley says:

My Gosh I hardly even recognized you, and you look sooooo striking in the pictures. I am just drawn to the Mint to Be, it is breathtaking on you and I wish I too could pull it off. The countessa lipstick is beautiful but it is the color of the Mint green that just draws my eyes and drops my mouth. I am in awe right now.

  • gretchen says:

with this look i’d prefer countessa. mint to be in combination with the eye make-up makes you look rather sickly. love the pictures and your dress. :)

  • The green is just so alien and beautiful, I can’t help but like it more!

  • Pstar says:

Love the Mint to Be. It’s the perfect escape from all the pink. Especially love how it looks with your eyeshadow. Hope you’re enjoying your new home!

  • Gabriella says:

I love both, they both look gorgeous on you! I love your dress, it’s so colorful and whimsical. You look different in these pictures, I wasn’t sure it was you for a second, lol! It must be the eyebrows, but you look amazing, gorgeous pictures as usual. :)

Check out my blog: Principessa Gabriella

  • Alicia says:

I really like the Mint to Be, but I think with the strong eyebrows in your makeup look that Countessa Flourescent goes better as there’s less competition on your face.

  • Angie says:

I LOVE your bold eyebrows totally fab. I like it very much, that contrast with the hair color amazing!

  • RachelC says:

LOVE that hot pink lipstick! ;)
Just wondering… did you check out Selena Gomez’s makeup at Perez Hilton’s Blue Ball? Reminds me of a certain No She Didn’t! ;)

  • Mani Love says:

I’ve missed these kinds of posts! Your photoshoots are my favorite, and the makeup tutorials. Will you make one for this look or is there one alreaqsy made similar to this one?

  • Goldie Rush says:

these are insanely gorgeous shots! bravo!

  • Spooky says:

Love the mint but it is a completely different tone than the rest of the colors in the set and outfit. Also it doesn’t match or not-match with your nails enough, they were too similar.

The pink hit it spot on.

Hey, maybe I’m crazy, I’m just obsessed with tones matching.

  • Shybiker says:

Love your new walls. And the bag makes me insanely jealous.

  • Lina says:

There’s a cat killing your potted plant!

And go for mint, to much pink with both eyeshadow and lippie.

  • Ashley says:

I can’t wait for a tutorial that uses mint to be. I think it would be awsome with troubadour, shoe addict and top hattie for a kind of frosty alien princess look.

  • Anaïs says:

I voted for the pink one, but only because it balances out the greens/blues in the dress you’re wearing. If, for example, your dress would have been purple, the green would be perfect.

  • Geez, Doe, you always look ready for a Vogue photoshoot ;) I’m surprised they haven’t called you yet?

  • Kelsey says:

I love the kitty appearance in the first photo. =)

  • Ashelle says:

Love this photo shoot. It’s so pretty and I love the colours & styling. So pretty! Personally I love the pink lipstick, I have it & it’s always my fav “go-to” shade. The blue looks very pretty on you too though.

  • Becca Rainbow says:

I’m kind of curious as to what inspired the eyebrows. Something about the light hair and the green lipstick just seems a little too much happening with the eyebrows. Also, what IS that nail polish?! It’s fantastic!

    Doe Deere Reply:

It’s Spring Green by Barry M.

What’s it like to be a 30 year old baby?

  • Elfie Trinket says:

It’s hard to judge since the filters you’ve used here make MTB look like NSD!, while they just play up the pinkness of CF. That, combined with the difference from the nail polish makes fuschia the way for this set, but I think that in daylight the mint would work perfectly.

  • nita says:

I love the cameo appearance by one of your kitties in the first picture! (see bottom right, hes attacking the plant!)

  • natasha says:

I don’t like the picture with the Countessa lipstick on the straw– I know almost every lipstick is destined to do that but no woman wants that and it made me think twice about ordering such a bright color :-( Thank you for keeping it honest tho

    Doe Deere Reply:

Really?? I absolutely LOVE leaving lipstick marks on my straws — there is even a picture I took a while back, with all these lipstick-stained straws in a champagne glass. It’s the quintessential part of being woman to me. :)
