Fafinette: makeup tutorial

Category Makeup Tutorials

Any fans of the graffiti artist Fafi in here? Yes??? This one’s for you! :)

Every girl wants to be a Fafinette: the heart-cheeked, stripe-clad  heroine of Fafi’s drawings. I got to play dress-up and transform myself into the character with the help of a wig, some jewelry and, of course, Lime Crime makeup!

INGREDIENTS

EYES

Because we’re going to be using such bright eyeshadow, it makes sense to do eyes first and skin later. Curl lashes and apply mascara to top lashes only, skipping the bottom. Let dry and curl again to open up the eyes. Dab on some Eyeshadow Helper and do a wash of Troubadour all over the top lid, blending out and up towards the brow. With a medium-sized brush, apply Shoe Addict over Troubadour, packing the color tightly for extra-vivid results.

Fafi’s character has big, curious eyes with lots of lashes on top and bottom and we’re going to fake some of them with eyeliner. Apply a dab of Foundation Primer under the eyes (this will prevent eyeliner from running) and finish with foundation/concealer. Set with loose power. Pick up the liquid liner and draw a long, winged line alongside top lashes, dropping it slightly below the tear duct. Draw another line underneath lower lashes, connecting the outer corners but leaving the inner open. Free-hand the bottom lashes. If you mess up, correct with q-tips (don’t forget to re-apply foundation in correction spots).

Stick on the false lashes to top lid only. If your falsies are thin, apply another pair and even another for a fuller look. You’ll be surprised how good it looks! Looking at the images now, I regret not defining my waterline with white pencil and filling in the space with pure white eyeshadow like Top Hattie. But you should!

FACE + CHEEKS

Moisturize skin with lotion. Apply foundation. Fix any spots with concealer, fill in eyebrows. Set face with loose powder.

Unless you do face-painting every day, drawing a heart on your own cheek can be tricky. I recommend doing it in front of a 3-piece vanity mirror so you can reference your work from an angle. Start out by drawing an outline with a dark-pink lip pencil. You can always correct it as you go along, just be sure to cover up the ‘erased’ parts with foundation. Once you’ve achieved the desired shape, fill in the heart with Eyeshadow Helper using a flat concealer brush. Pat Abracadabra on with a short-bristled brush.

LIPS

Fafinettes have an unusually thick pout. Seriously, I don’t think anyone’s lips are that plump in real life! But isn’t that what makeup is for? Fake fullnes by going outside your lip line with a dark pink pencil, and fill in with Centrifuchia. Dab a touch of Abracadabra, which has a glow to it, to the center of bottom lip for a 3-D pout. Voila!
