I did it! I dyed my hair blue as per my inspiration! And I love, love, LOVE IT! Going from a warm color to a cool color is such a big change; I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was afraid it would make my skin look dull and I wasn’t sure how it would look with my eyes, but it’s quite flattering with my complexion and makes my eyes look so BLUE!
My friend Michael Angelo of Wonderland Beauty Parlour helped me achieve this by first bleaching my hair to white, then applying a light blue dye over it for 45 minutes. The result is a medium to light blue that shifts from periwinkle at my roots to turquoise at the ends. It came out a bit brighter than I wanted, but I am hoping it will wash out to a paler blue I was aiming for. Either way, as someone who enjoys experimenting with my appearance and loves change, I love my new hair and have a feeling it will be a perpetual work in progress. :) Wonderland Parlour is a truly magical place and I promise to come back with better pictures — for now, check out some snapshots from my phone.
Funny story: while sitting in my chair, I spotted David Bryan Rashbaum right behind me, getting highlights. He is the keyboard player of Bon Jovi, a band I was really into in my teens and still like quite a bit. David was telling stories of his pants splitting on stage in from of 65,000 people. When I asked how he fixed it, he said “Duct tape. Not the smartest idea ever but I had to work with what I had!”. Haha. I dorked out and never did tell him I was a fan — just couldn’t really find a way to say “I was obsessed with your band and had about 5 posters above my bed when I was fifteen” without making it awkward!

Speaking of awkward… Check out my new “I can’t model” pose. Haha.

Oh, what a great pastel look :) I also had a lot of different vibrant and pastel colors on my hair..it went through black, red, pink, blond, purple, white, green, blue, turquoise..atm it’s blue, but darker than yours. But when the color fades, it always gets this granny blue look that you also like, haha!

I love that you’ve had literally every color under the sun, FUN!
Oh WOW! It looks amazing Doe! I’d love to see you with mint green next, that would look awesome. But not for a while – wear LOTS of different outfits with the blue first, it looks great against bright colours!
I wish I could do that with my hair – it’s really thick and dark though, so the roots would look awful when it starts to grow out a bit. :(
I was wondering if you were going to do blue eyebrows or not :-P
I’m glad you didn’t!

I feel like it would have been too much. Gray-blonde seems to work best!

You could always use eyeshadow to colour your brows when you want them that way. I’ve seen other people do that. Its not permanent and fun to do sometimes.

Oh, but coloured eyebrows is wonderful! Although it’s nice to feel natural and un-makeuped (haha) sometimes.
I use to colour them just for a day with makeup, that works fine as well!
I love the way it looks on you! Wish I could dye my hair crazy colours like that without getting yelled at (I once dyed my hair red, well, part of it. They almost killed me ¬¬)
But you just managed to pull it off perfectly!
Congrats!! :)
It’s really breathtaking! absolutely beautiful.
Better call up Raquel for a photoshoot..(;
Haha, that would be amazing though, if you and Raquel did one soon(: Both blue heads.

The ends seem to need some touching up, but Doe, this is gorgeous! It looks absolutely amazing on you, I love, love the color at your roots! I can only imagine the upkeep on this though. Will they be able to do your roots without ruining the rest of the color?

Wow, this hair color looks amazing, I really love this on you.
If I can suggest the next color: a bright, light lavender.

My hands are already itching to dye it something else. ;) Lavender is in the plans for sure!
You look amazing. <3
oh wow it is so perfect! i knew it would make your eyes pop!! :D
You remind me of my favorite 80′s cartoon “Jem and the Holograms”…I would love to see a bright blue hued look…blue eyeshadow, blue blush, blue lips, blue lashes…all blue! I know with the photo editing and your angel skin (envy envy) you would look ethereal. Or a frosty ice blue snow look…this is so versatile and I applaud your whimsy and style dedication! You look startlingly beautiful.
It looks amazing on you! I love the sort of aqua tone you picked ♥
Oh wow, this is such a striking, beautiful color on you! I love it with the centrifuschia <3
I HATE IT
lol just kidding – you’re a fairytale!
marry me! haha! you are soooo awesomely blue! LOVE! :X
Normally I would have thought anyone dying their hair blue was crazy, but you make blue hair look like the coolest thing since sliced bread. :)

Crazy? Really? Is it just blue hair that makes you think the person is crazy or other colors as well? Just curious where you draw the line.

It’s not that I have anything against dying your hair unusual colours. On the contrary, I really admire Doe for dying her hair blue! I would never have the guts to do that. It’s just that where I live, that would be considered just so strange. It’s kind of drummed into my head that anything outside the norm is slightly crazy – you know how you pick up habits if you live with them for long enough? People on the street here stare at you weirdly if you wear something even mildly bright! Maybe that’s why I like Doe’s blog so much – it’s so rebelliously colourful compared to where I live.
It looks great! I love that color. It’s so pretty.
Looking forward to your next post. :)
loved it… but wouldnt go for it =P
Oh… My… God…!!!
I couldn’t picture it beforehand — it turned out much better than I expected. The blue matches other colors in your face more than I thought it would.
In case you were ever afraid of being overlooked, there’s no danger of that now!
Oh my gosh. Blue looks so great on you! My hair is currently deep eggplant purple, but it has been every color under the sun, haha. No she didn’t with blue hair looks great (my yearbook photo, haha.). It is so amazing to see my hero with un-natural hair color. You never stop inspiring me! I suggest filling your brows in with an ashy-blonde or gray, if not a light ashy blue. I’ve always used a toned-down shade of my current hair color. With navy I used a dark slate color, with pink a dark pinky-peach, purple a grayish eggplant shade… It helps avoid the ‘is that a wig?’ factor. [:
wowowowowooowwowowow! It looks amazing.. beyond amazing. You are stunning!
I adooooooooooooore it! It looks fabulous!
I love the combination of blue and pink you’ve got going on, too.
Looks fantastic!! Space aliens unite! <3

You’ve convinced me. I’m terrified about bleaching my darking brown hair (i’ve died it once). How much did it all cost? I’m seriously saving up for it and want to do orange or something. Orange is not so unnatural as blue..
Please do a blog post about the process! :)

Most people I know who dye their hair actually do it at home because going to a salon can get expensive. I recommend learning to at least do your own touch-ups. I could tell you how it’s done but you’ll probably get a better idea by watching a video on YouTube. :) Seriously!

Yeah, I’ve heard, but I think I feel like I’ll mess up bleaching somehow and have really fried hair.

no honey, don’t do the bleaching at home. that’s actually the only part I would never try. That really can go wrong. Especially cause you don’t have a light hair colour to start with. I always do the bleaching at a salon and then I put on a hat and go home to do the rest:)
W O W
I’m so happy for you! The blue turned out so wonderful.
AMAZING! Omogosh, it suits you so well! Beautiful colour =D I wish I had naturally lighter hair so I could dye it different colours without bleach! Can’t wait to hear more about how to maintain it, etc :)
OMG! it looks like a wig! I really love it! maybe now I can gather courage and dye my hair cherry red… you’re so inspiring! :D

Holy freaking cow, that’s adorable!!! <3 You look fantastic with the blue hair, it matches your eyes amazingly!
It looks amazing on you… And I love your coat!
I ABSOLUTLY ADORE THIS NEW LOOK!! AMAZING, ETHEREAL, AWSOME!!! WAY TO GO, DOE!!!! <3 <3 <3
As someone who just drastically changed my hair color, I cannot wait to see the” life as a bluehead” post. Mine has been pink for a month, and my bosses are just now making me either change it or leave.
The dress code I was given only covers tattoos and piercings, with which all of mine are in compliance. Not hair. Not a word but well kept.
Sorry for that, mildly irate. Your hair looks amazing!
Ahhh! You look like an anime character! I LOVE IT! Blue hair looks fabulous on you.
Oh my gosh your eyes! So blue!
It looks great on you!
So glad you finally did it! Mine was pink for a few months and is now a beautiful blue-black.

I think it’s freaking beautiful! Congrats!
Oh ow! It came out wonderful! Suits you very well.
We have similar coloration, so this makes me wonder if I might be able to pull off a paler blonde tone seeing that the cool tones work so well with you.
Love it! Glad that you are happy with the results <3
I’ve had my hair colored with many maaaany crazy colors, this summer’s color for me was blue and i LOVED it. i think it has been one of my favorites. I hope you enjoy your new blueheadness as much as I enjoyed mine!
You look so beautiful!
My mom is a hairstylist, so I have had all sorts of crazy colors in my hair. :)
WOW!
It looks stunning!
