HOW TO WEAR RED LIPSTICK: 3 easy application techniques

  • Dab it: for flushed, just-bitten lips,  dab some color onto the center of your mouth with your finger.
  • Gloss it: red looks wonderful glossy (reminds me of candy apples!). To achieve the look, work color into lips with a brush, blot, then work it in again. Apply clear gloss on top.
  • Classic: create an outline with any red pencil (it doesn’t have to be a perfect match) and swipe directly from the stick. Blot, reapply. Perfect the shape with a brush or the same red pencil. Voila!

Deerlings: Who are your favorite red-lipped beauties? Mine are Dita von Teese, Poppy King, any girls from Ellen von Unwerth photoshoots and, of course, Lolita! Also check out my favorite redheads wearing red!

Are they or aren’t they? It’s the great makeup mystery! Maybe they are, or maybe they aren’t, but either way these celebrities all look fabulous and you can certainly achieve these fun looks using Lime Crime products. Check out these lovely ladies below all sporting makeup looks that are so bright… they just might be illegal!

M.I.A.: My Beautiful Rocket

One of the coolest (read: “OMG!”) moments of my job working for Lime Crime was getting to hand-deliver goodies to recording artist M.I.A. and her lovely stylist Haley a few months ago in New York City, just in time for her performance that night! Even cooler is the fact that Miss Arulpragasam is, indeed, wearing our My Beautiful Rocket lipstick at the shoot and in her latest video “XXXO,” which is no surprise as her stylist divulged that bright orange lipstick is a favorite of Maya’s!

Ke$ha: No She Didn’t

No she didn’t… or did she? It definitely looks like “Tik Tok” singer Ke$ha, known for her over-the-top style and antics, swiped some of our bright bubblegum blue No She Didn’t lipstick on for her appearance at the Casio Baby-G watch event in NYC a few days ago. It also looks like she wore the hue again later that evening during her performance at the event, this time with some glitter overtop to create a frosty ice princess pout! Try getting the look by sprinkling some silver Mirror Mirror Magic Dust lightly over No She Didn’t and applying clear gloss on top to create some shine.

Marina & the Diamonds: Cosmopop, Centrifuchsia, Countessa Fluorescent

Pop artist Marina of Marina and the Diamonds is known for her pop-art style, so it makes perfect sense that the British fashionista is a fan of colors that really pop on her pout, like Cosmopop which she seemingly wore during a recent interview. Also spotted on the songstress: a bright fuchsia similar to Centrifuchsia and a neon Barbie pink a-la Countessa Fluorescent in her colorful music video for “Oh No!

Deerlings: What do you think of our new Shop By Look feature?

As you know, pre-sales on our newly reformulated magic dusts begin on Monday the 16th. There’s been a lot of curiosity about them, hope this post answers any questions you might have!

How are the new Magic Dusts different?

  • Better Quality Ingredients
In an effort to provide you with a better product, we are now using higher quality pigments – which give more color payoff. For you, this means brighter and sparklier eyelids!
  • New Vegan Formula
The new magic dusts will have a new, improved formula which is 100% vegan (in the past, we’ve used carmine for several shades). It will have better slip for blending and better adhesion so you can wear them longer. New formula contains mild, non-abrasive, paraben-free preservatives so you can be assured of safe quality performance for a long time.
  • No-spill packaging
When we heard some of you experienced spillage, we knew it was time to upgrade to a new jar. I have been taking my new dusts to photoshoots and can attest that you can travel with them without ever making a mess!
    .
New dusts will come in a cute box adored with – you guessed it! – unicorns, ensuring more durability during shipping.

What is the net weight?

The official net weight of a magic dust is 2 g / 0.07 oz. According to our lab, weight of the product fluctuates depending on color and fill – you may be getting anywhere between 2-3.5 grams. However, legally we are required to put down the minimum amount you may be getting. Keep in mind that new jars are equal to the old in volume (10 g) and we are instructing the factory to fill to maximum capacity. We are confident that you’ll love the new dusts and be able to get lots & lots of applications out of them!

How much will they cost?

In an effort to allow you to get to know the new magic dusts, we are offering them at $12 for the rest of August & September. On October 1st the price will go up to $14. We understand the importance of keeping our product affordable at the best quality and are doing everything possible to strike that balance.

Will there be sales on the website?

You bet! We want to make sure everyone has a chance to try our products, so be sure to sign up to Unicorn Mail to receive news of any discounts, insider deals, and contests!

Thanks for your feedback – point taken! A lot of you are concerned with fragrance causing irritation, and while I would never release something that didn’t go through rigorous testing, I would rather you not worry about these things. Scent-free, it is – packaging will still be cute though! ;)
