I won’t lie, my favorite part about my job is dreaming up campaigns. I love letting go and allowing my imagination to take me places I never thought existed… I wanted Carousel Gloss to capture the essence of Holidays and winter in a whimsical but not-too-Chistmas-y kind of way. I thought of my favorite dark fairytale: Snow White, and specifically her (mis)adventures with apples. Combined with another unlikely inspiration — True Blood poster — we had a concept together that required a model with nice lips, some liquid gloss and an apple prop. The final image turned out so wonderful that we actually ended up making a Limited Edition poster out of it.

By the way, lipgloss mass is the messiest (and most mesmerizing!) substances in the world. I asked the lab to pour me some into a jar for studio exploits, and was instructed to heat it up like fondue before pouring over any props. It was funny to see something so expensive and that is normally distributed in small amounts, in tiny containers, in such massive quantities and displayed so prosaically in a plastic tub.

Guess who is @Locketship‘s poster girl for the new Galactic Glitter collection?! This poster will be printed and debuted at their 4th Anniversary Event this Saturday, where LC is running a pop-up shop. Come say hi!

This collection is one of my favorite — who else but Locketship to put cute bunnies in outer space?! — and so is this photoshoot. We shot this over at my house last Friday; Maria brought the jewelry, Cassie Wanda styled the hair and Mark took pictures. My makeup was inspired part by Thierry Mugler’s Alien ad, part by the jewelry itself (I adore those dark, indigo-blue backgrounds with speckles of glitter!). I kept the face glowing and bare, intentionally avoiding eyeliner/lashes and bringing all focus onto the lips/nails/pieces. And yes, I am in fact wearing a new product from our upcoming Holiday 2011 collection! (If you’re in the know, you already know what it is!!!)

The nails were my favorite. The best part? They’re so easy to do, you won’t believe it! Paint a dark blue base first, layer multi-colored glitter polish on top and finish with top coat. Voila! You’ve got intergallactic starry nails! The downside is that these are so mesmerizing, you won’t be able to stop staring at your nails all week…

And I leave you with a random fact: I have an irrational fear of nebulae. I find them utterly horrifying, for no apparent reason (it’s not like I’ve ever been trapped in one or planning to…). Others say they inspire a sense of wonder… Me, I just want to whimper in fear!!!

One of our Twitter followers recently asked if it’s safe to use eyeshadow — or Magic Dust, as may be in our case — on the lips. With Halloween coming up, I think it’s a very relevant question that I wanted to address in full.
