An App That Saved My Sanity

Five years ago I heard a beautiful song over the radio in a supermarket. Male and female vocals entwined over a simple melody and Spanish guitars. I had it stuck in my head for weeks; what tortured me is that I couldn’t figure out who sang it. It didn’t help that the song was in a foreign language; which? I couldn’t quite place. I got so obsessed, I even referenced it (melodically) on the Doe Deere record, which I was writing at the time! Eventually, I accepted the fact that I will never know and it must stay in my head as a sweet memory.

Years later, thanks to the SoundHound app, I was able to hum it into my iPhone (!) and finally uncover its origins. It’s by an Iranian singer Arash, and is performed in Farsi. It’s such a gorgeous song, I can listen to it for days and days. Enjoy!

I have a magazine photoshoot at noon today, frantically getting ready, and then I see Chester doing THIS! His mouth is so funny, it’s always slightly open in a ‘whistle’ shape. It also looks like an upside down Y!

Weekly Glee: Rainbow Toes!

Quick pick-me-up: rainbow pedicure! Pastel rainbow nails are beautiful, fun and oh-so-easy to do. Chose polishes in solid (no shimmer) colors found in a rainbow: such as pastel blue, pink, lilac and yellow! I used various brands like China Glaze, Barry M, OCC and cheap polish from the drugstore. Don’t forget top coat: my favorite is Seche Vite!

P.S. My shoes are Kate Spade from a couple years ago.

Seal Yells Like A Man video makes me laugh hysterically no matter where I am, what I’m doing, or how I feel. The second I think of it, I’m on the floor holding onto my stomach giggling like a fool! (Let’s hope this doesn’t happen at a funeral… :)) I’m surprised it only got 726,030 views — is it not that funny to others???

I received a mysterious package yesterday. Inside I found a carefully wrapped gold-rimmed teacup & saucer set, a vintage beaded purse, a miniature pillbox hat and a postcard explaining that Naia, a blogazine reader, is moving and decided some of her things “should live with me”. I was amazed by how exquisite and, most importantly, in tune each piece was with what I’m into at the moment. It made me feel like my readers truly ‘get’ me, and totally made my day!

Hand-written letter. A rarity today. When I write with pen on paper, I sometimes forget how certain letters curve — that’s how reliant we’ve become on technology. Letter-writing is a lost art, and getting a postcard like this in the mail can make a gloomy day sunny.

I bet Naia had no idea that I collect teacup sets just like this. :) I have 3 so far that I really like, and this one fits right into the collection!

Beaded purse. I saw an almost identical one at Goodwill, didn’t buy it, and regretted it ever since! You can imagine my delight when I saw this!!! It’s like my long-lost love and I have been reunited…

Naia is a milliner who goes by the name Shadowbox Designs — she made this gorgeous hat. I absolutely adore it.
