Tales of the Unicorn Queen

Coraline

Category Weekly Glee

Update: apparently, this Sunday is the last chance we’ll have to see this movie in 3D! Anyone going?

Caroline (2009) trailer

Coraline is an animated horror fairy tale based on the same-name novella by Neil Gaiman. Directed by Henry Selick – yes, the same Henry Selick of The Nightmare Before Christmas! – it is already on its way to becoming a goth classic! What makes it even more delightful is that it’s done in 3D – we get to experience ghosts walking through us, an incredible fall through a tunnel, and much, much more! Can anyone say, Gleeeee!!! ?

The only thing I enjoy more than having a fantastic experience is sharing it with others. That’s why I’m inviting every one of you to join me at the AMC Theaters this Sunday, Feb 22 at 3pm for a 3D screening! We could all go get dessert afterwards. :)

You can get tickets in advance on sites like Moviefone. I’ll be at the theater at 2:45 pm, waiting for everybody on the first floor (look for the girl trying to figure out how to attach buttons to her eyes). Those of you who aren’t in the area, don’t worry – there will be plenty of opportunity to share your thoughts later, on this blog! :)

P.S. Their website is as magical as the trailer. Grow your own creepy flowers, explore Coraline’s rooms and, of course, button your own eyes!!

“Coraline”

  • I just saw this last night in Bloomington– and it was absolutely magnificent!

I hope many NYC readers join up with you to see it. Perhaps a “Coraline” colored eye shadow is in order… a blue black like her hair? Brown and button colored?

aha, i saw it on valentine’s day with my boyfriend, it’s seriously an adorable movie.
it has all the child cuteness while still being creepy for the people who can acknowledge what’s going on.
good luck with trying to button your eyes, hehe :)

  • Shannon says:

I also saw this last night. It was so good!

  • I wish I could be there for that! But I won’t be there until May, so I’ll just have to watch it here and be with you in “spirit”!

  • Kelsey says:

I was so estatic to see a post about Coraline! I loved the book when it first came out. Then I saw teaser trailers and posters for it and I just got real excited.

    Hope you enjoy the film.

  • ceto says:

I just can’t wait to see it, Thank you to speak of this great film ;)
(only this summer in France *cry*)

  • WigWitch says:

I hate to spoil your plan, but I’m pretty sure that it won’t still be playing in 3D then.

Neil Gaiman posted a while back that it will only be showing until the 26th and then the Jonas Brothers 3D movie will open on the 27th and push it out of the theater.

You might want to call the theater and confirm this.

  • Julie says:

    I loved this movie!!!

The animation is completely gorgeous and the story is even better.

My favourite part was the opening sequence.

  • morwen says:

Oh! I have been wanting to see this forever! If only there were any time…

  • Jessica says:

I definitely will try to be there! I lovedlovedloved the book (and everything else Neil Gaiman has ever written that I’ve gotten my hands on) but haven’t seen the movie yet, which pains me. I’m so excited now, haha! :D

  • Michelle says:

I would totally be there if I lived by you! I’ve only seen it in 2D so far, as no place around here has it in 3D, but I’ve seen it twice it’s so good, and might see it again. After seeing it the second time I bought the book and read it, and I love it too. Neil Gaiman is awesome and so is Henry Selick.

    /end fangirl ramblings

  • Miranda says:

I saw it on Valentine’s Day with my Fiancee and it was brilliant. Of course I don’t think that Neil Gaiman can do wrong so that helps.
The book was awesome and the movie definitely does it justice. So I say…
    Go see it!

  • Stephanie says:

I LOVED this book. I read it when I was in elementary school, and I got so creeped out I started having dreams where everyone around me had black button eyes. ahhhh! Of course, now I can’t wait to see the movie! It looks amazing – I love stop motion animation.

  • Rosemary says:

I just love Neil Gaiman! I’ve heard great things about the movie adaptation. Can’t wait to see it.

  • Jackie D says:

i wish i wasn’t so stranded in the far off land of Canada. i really didn’t like the trailer but i’ll probably end up seeing it anyway.

  • Sunny says:

=[ They don't have 3d around me except in Cleveland, and while an hour away isn't so bad, its started snowing again! You should draw buttons on your eyes in eyeshadow =]. It’d be adorable!

  • Natalie says:

Oh, I wish I could go! That sounds like it would be sooo much fun.

PS Doe- if you actually wanted to attach buttons to your eyes (although I think it would be a great idea to draw them on with make-up) you could the glue that you fix falsies to your eyes, and use that. I’ve used it before to glue little pink hearts to my eyes and it worked, I bet a button wouldn’t be too far off =)

  • sharon says:

It’s a truly amazing movie and i STRONGLY suggest you watch it in 3D…i cant imagine it being half as fun without it :/

  • Brin says:

I saw this movie last weekend and it was amazing! I liked the cat best. The author of the book also helped make my favorite movie Mirrormask. Have fun at the movies!

  • Kit says:

Neil Gaiman is my favorite author :)

  • Alison says:

I wish I could go see it in 3D with you, but I will be performing in the Vagina Monologues on the 22nd. Otherwise, I’d be SO tempted to take a train from CT. By the way, you look like a delightfully creepy doll with button eyes; it’s superb!

  • Bonnie :) says:

It was an amazing movie! (and if you get the 3-d glasses early they make a great accessory!)
It’s absolutely amazing! I wish I lived in New York! And I saw it already too! *stands in a corner* >w<

  • Bonnie :) says:

wish I could have desert with you too. >.<

Not to rain on your parade, but please be careful about revealing to the entire internet where you’re going to be and when, Doe. ^^; It sounds like fun, though… I hope you all have a good time! ^^

  • Autumn says:

It was adorable! Coraline reminded me so much of my 8 year old daughter whose hair I am now considering coloring blue :)

  • Shen-Shen says:

    Ehhh.

The 3D was cool, but the movie was bad!

  • Allison says:

Haha, I love the one negative comment that strays away from all the rest

  • Clara says:

Awww man it doesn’t come out in the UK for ages. :( I hate waiting for amazing films, it looks so beautiful!

  • Shealia says:

I LOVED this movie!! I saw it with my boyfriend the weekend before Valentine’s Day and we just loved every minute of it! The popcorn maker was especially halarious! lol The best part of it was that it was my very first time ever seeing a movie in 3D! If you haven’t seen this movie – YOU HAVE TO!! (Unless of course you like living under a rock.) Haha.. just kidding but seriously you won’t be disappointed! :D

  • Whit says:

I saw it on Valentine’s Day too, in 3D, it is awesome!

  • La Carmina says:

You’ll love it!!! I saw it in 3D on opening night.

  • Rickey says:

Neil Gaiman is possibly related to God… or something like that. I loved this movie so much. Anyone know he also wrote Stardust, which also inspired one of my very favorite movies? One of his best books (i think) is called The Graveyard Book, and it’s really just beautiful. Anyone see the moustachio video on the Coraline website? Now THAT is absolutely smashing!
