Tales of the Unicorn Queen

Cupcake & Unicorn display

Category Inspiration

This now hangs in my lilac living room:

(larger resolution & list of items here)

Before:

It’s hard to believe this started out as a simple wooden box from Michael’s crafts & supplies. I re-painted it aqua and hot pink, pasted in different backgrounds and voila! Pretty doll house for unicorns!

There are certain themes that you’ll find throughout the Unicorn House – cupcakes, stars, bells and of course unicorns. I’m finally done with my bedroom – can’t wait to show you guys! ♥

Very cute! I love those bandaids I have the same ones, they even have little tears on them.

  • Izzy says:

I’m super envious of your apartment. My head is bursting with decoration ideas for when I finally move into my own!

Greatly looking forward to more pictures of your place!

    Doe Deere Reply:

You will love it (decorating your own place). We need more people who do something interesting with their dwellings :)

  • Kristie says:

    That is so cute!
I’d love to do something like that if only I had the things to put it in :D

  • Ashley says:

I know where you got those bandages from I want to get some.

  • Kate & Zena says:

Oh, where did you get the one unicorn statue in the lime green cubby?

I have a porcelain music statue of two unicorns that you wind the bottom of and it spins while it plays some unknown song (I still can’t place that song and it’s been five years!). The mare is rearing up and it’s colt or foal lays next to it. It’s my favorite porcelain object I have. I have a glass rose (that has little glass thorns) and a miniature glass carousel horse too. I seem to be addicted to fragile objects, despite my clumsiness.

Now all I need to do is get permission from my landlord to paint my room a smoky lavender shade. I hate my white walls! You’re so inspiring to my interior designer brain!

    Doe Deere Reply:

I have complete and utter hatred for white walls as well! They remind me of a hospital or a depressing prison and make me immediately want to buy paint, haha!

    Kate & Zena Reply:

Ha ha, try being surrounded by them for fourteen years! I grew up in military housing mainly. You are not allowed to wallpaper OR paint the walls and the walls are exactly three colors–antique white, eggshell white or crisp white.

Really pale blue reminds me of hospitals. I spent a lot of time as a kid in the hospital so hospital white, really pale blue, anything citrusy smelling and the smell of Lysol disinfectant make me visibly twitch.

  • Krista says:

This reminds me of my cotton-candy pink bookcase I painted all by myself when I was seven. :) It’s still sitting in my room, complete with collection of books and lipsticks and nail polishes! I love anything with stars, too. Is that cupcake/truffle thing on the top shelf a lip balm?

    Doe Deere Reply:

    Yep!

  • Nicole says:

    Love this!

  • VioletRimbaud says:

holy adorable, batman! I seriosly wish I could just sit down and do stuff like this

  • Tessa says:

Gorgeoussss wow! So inspirational. I can’t wait to get my own apartment (maybe in two years?) and really get to decorate beyond a room…

  • Jill says:

Oh my gosh, I was JUST about to comment and tell you about those Boo-Boo Kisses bandaids when I saw that last picture. I thought you’d like them, and clearly I was right. :P

  • Natalie says:

Aww, this is adorable! I’ve been working on decorating my bedroom, the most recent things I’ve added is a large glittery tissue paper flower on the wall, and also paper stars hanging from the ceiling. Right now it’s painted with blue and green stripes from when it was my sister’s room, but I’m thinking of painting over the blue with purple. What do you think? [:

  • Holly Brooke says:

    This is adorable!

  • liz says:

    Excellent, colorful idea!

  • Gina says:

Where’d you get that Hedwig necklace? I love it.

  • Courtney says:

This is amazing I love it! I’ve been doing projects like this too arond my house.

  • Remi says:

oh my GAWD that looks amazing!! I love every part of it. Such a great idea and really well done :)

  • Casey says:

Ahh! Wow I love this idea! I think I might try to make one myself. Although my style is a little bit more vintage looking, I think my style would still suit this piece well :D
Did you buy the wood piece already in the shape of a house with little boxes, or did you do some of that?

  • Erica says:

Im using the pic as a background on my blog, and i gave credits to you and i linked your blog too :) Hope it’s fine.
