Day 2 was all about the 90s rock chic. Debbi and I did some shopping in the morning and I picked up a pair of fabulous cat-eye shades (she got a couple pretty dresses). Remember, I’m allowed to wear whatever finds its way into my wardrobe during the trip. :)

I adore early 90s fashion, it felt so care-free and tough at the same time, and I’m all about mixing the feminine with the edgy right now. What’s your favorite thing about the 90s??

My favourite part of the 90s was that even though there were trends people didn’t follow them as closely as they do now. Back then you took a trend and made it your own. Also, spice girls inspired platform sneakers.

Agreed! 90s music was awesome – from grunge to eurobeat to all those techno bands!
My favorite thing about the 90′s was the bubblegum dance movement in the Danish-Norwegian part of the world! Aqua, Bambee, and Tiggy made the cutest fairytale techno that I still listen to this day!

You look absolutely amazing!!!!! I never would’ve thought that wasn’t your jacket, awesome find! My favourite part of the 90′s was BSB…. xD

Thanks Justine! And omg, I STILL love Backstreet Boys (better than N’Sync)!
PS. and the ninja turtles… can’t forget about them.
You don’t think you should have maybe, I dunno, handed in the jacket to the lost and found? Let’s just hope the original owner doesn’t want it back…

Well, I asked everyone around if it was theirs and it wasn’t. Besides, it’s pretty old and I doubt anyone would go looking for it (it’s one of those pleather jackets from a $15 or Less store).
If it was something more valuable I would definitely have brought it in.
Oh how I look back and laugh…there is me in my scratch and sniff tee with matching floral leggins and a hand made scruntchy! While all my firends are in their uniform of washed out black/grey denim and Sweater Shop shirts and matchstick trainers! Ha ha. I definately wasn’t bothered about following ANY trend. For me it was about finding what I liked and standing out from the crowd- while everyone else was trying to blend in, I was trying to get noticed. My icon of that time was Bjork so I think that would be my fave thing!
Ariel- Aqua ‘Barbie Girl’ love it! Ha ha

I love scrunchies and really wish I could wear one – too bad my hair is now so short!
I love how the black leather contrasts with the ribbon and the floaty skirt – the whole leather/lace thing looks great on you.

maybe i’m stuck in the past, but i completely still rock the look of leather boots with dresses and doc martens with mini skirts and punk rock t shirts. i looove it.
I love your hair!! It looks so glam
The music is most definately my fave thing of the 90s…brit pop and indie…was just when I was 1st getting into music, and there so much wonderful stuff…bluetones, bush, kula shaker, ocean colour scene, radiohead, nirvana, garbage…the list goes on and on….listening to 90s music always brings a smile to my face – good old nostalgia! :-D
xxx
P.S. the outfit looks fab!

lol – I thought that video was so amazing the 1st time I saw it…all the people with the scary distorted faces…love that song!
I pretty much love EVERYTHING about the 90s! Especially the music. You know how bars and clubs will have 80s themed nights? I really hope that trend catches on with 90s themed nights =D!!
BUT I mostly wanted to comment on this post because I so so so love your hair!! Especially with that incredible jacket. I can’t wait to see more more more outfit posts with those edgy, sexy locks ;D
Much Love Darling!!

aqua and the spice girls! otherwise I kinda hated the 90′s
The 90s were my childhood, good times and fond memories!
The music was amazing, it’s the not-so-secret guilty pleasure of my iPod… Spice Girls and Aqua, and all manner of bubblegum pop and euro-dance!
I loved the cartoons as well, although many of the shows were reruns from an earlier time, it was still all sorts of awesome! Hey Arnold, Garfield and Friends, The Magic School Bus, Wishbone, oh dear, I could keep going on. YTV FTW!

As I mentioned above, this isn’t an expensive jacket. I saw these sold for $15, and it’s rather old. Were it something more valuable, of course I would have brought it to Lost and Found.

Glad to hear your explanation Doe – I thought it was rather out of character for you to go taking something that didn’t belong to you :]
Mixing masculine and feminine is always fun. Coincidentally, one of my fashion-bloggers wore an identical outfit yesterday (biker-jacket over flouncy dress) and it looks terrific on both of you. You’re both girly and adding the jacket, as you say, provides “edge.”
I also like how you’re trying to do more with less. That’s something that resonates with lots of women today.

I’m having a lot of fun re-inventing myself and un-complicating my look. It’s fun to do “more with less”, as you put it! Who is your favorite blogger? I wanna check out her outfit!

You’re my favorite blogger! Cammila is just another favorite. Her site is here: http://dresseduplikealady.blogspot.com/
My favorite thing about the 90′s, the noen, Cher, plum lipstick, light up shoes, babydoll dresses, Jossie and The Pussycats, ands Titanic.
The 90′s went by so quick. I found my pager last week, I was like “Oh God, can’t believe we thought we were so cool with these things beeping”

Josie and the Pussycats! <3 Loooove!
I loved the dress!!! it’s perfect!! (I love those romantic dresses!)
I’m a long time reader who’s never really commented before, and while I think you look lovely what’s prompting me to comment now is the jacket.
Honestly, I’m shocked you took it! You may have found it there, but it already had an owner :/ its value doesn’t matter, nor does the fact that it didn’t belong to any of the people in your immediate vicinity when you found it. It wasn’t yours, either, and somebody may well have come back to find it. It may have meant a lot to that person, for reasons other than its monetary value. I’m honestly surprised and taken aback that you took it instead of just taking it to the Lost & Found, especially if, like you say, you’ve seen plenty of similar jackets for sale for only $15! If you like it this much (and I can see why!), surely spending $15 so somebody else can have their own jacket back isn’t that much of a stretch?
I’ve been following your blog for a long time and I’m sad that my first comment had to be a less than glowing one, but I felt the need to say this.

I agree completely. I don’t understand why Xenia is emphasizing its monetary value when it can hold a sentimental value to someone.

Agreed third! :( As nice as your outfit is (very cool!), Doe, I keep imagining if that had been my jacket, and I had been travelling and was jetlagged and sleepy and accidentally left it behind, only to come back for it and have it be gone forever- stolen! It is a nice-looking jacket, I’m sure someone loved it!! Please be empathetic and put yourself in the owner`s shoes :( Now that you know how good it looks on you (with your hair ^.^), you can buy the ones you saw for 15$ and return this instead?
much love, Xtina
PS my fav thing about the 90s was grunge style… and thinking Marilyn Manson was the coolest!
wow the rocker look really suits you well with your short hair :O and i’m in love with the shoes.. and the jacket
you’re stunning in that outfit ^^
Baby doll dresses and combat boots. Edgy and feminine at the same time.
Being a kid in the 90′s was the best, although sometimes I wish I could also have been a teen in the 90′s as well =/ Everything just felt so much more..care-free. Maybe that was just because I was a child but I dont know, things are definitely not the same.
I can’t believe no one mentioned Doc Martins. One of my favorite 90′s outfits is a vintage/band tee, cut-offs, fishnets, and Doc’s + costume jewelry, glass beads, Lucite, etc.
At first, I’m a long time reader of you and your blog and it’s not a “hater comment” So please don’t get me wrong.
I think you did wrong thing. You look great in the pictures above, but I think you’d better return it. It’s easy, just go to lost and found at the LAX and say “I just found it at the corner there” or something. They won’t doubt you.
xoxo
I love 90s music. I have fond memories of watching TRL on MTV in the late 90s… Good times. :D
I love love LOVE this outfit! I love the mix of the pretty, frilly little dress with the leather jacket!
Shirley Manson meets Gillian Anderson. Nice.
i LOVE your outfit!!! it reminds me of Greece, the movie. With all thier leather jacket, adorable dresses, and hair styles!!!!
Do you happen to remember the name of the Korean shop?
WOW ! WOW ! WOW !
Wow, I loveee this outfit, especially the jacket- super cute! And I’m loving the hair, might just be inspiration for me to chop it all off next week.
Is it wrong if I say that I’m eager to mug your house and get away with most of your clothes and shoes?
Loving ittt!! Those shoes are amazing!
What I loved the most about the 90s is the music, all of it! Nirvana is one of my favs :DD
I love the juxtaposition here! I’m gonna see if I can work out something similar. I wish I didn’t throw my jacket like this in the bin, now. I mean it WAS ripped, but wouldn’t have been visible in a shoot. >.<
I'm sure I'll work summat out. =^.^=
OOOOO! Heck yeah girl! Fantastic!
Definitely the movie 10 Things I hate about you!!! It’s one of my all time favorites. Yesterday I was actually at a thrift store and bought a Cheap Trick tape…yes I said tape. The song I want you to want me was number one, which is in the movie..so I had to get it :)
PS love the look. Absolutely love.
Um… You really should have brought that jacket to the lost and found. I may be “old and cheap” but that shouldn’t matter. :/
I liked the 90′s kid’s shows. Much, much better then the stuff on TV for children these days.
My favorite thing about the 90′s is the awesome grunge music, of course! I like that the 90′s are coming back in style because I was really too young then to know anything about fashion.
I love the outfit, it looks great!
Ah, so inspiring!! Also, I want those shoes. :)
Doe.
I died and went to heaven.
This is absolutely my favorite shoot.
Hands Down.
<3
If anyone ever passes through Alhambra/San Gabrial area, there are a lot of asian shops that sell dresses and blouses in the style Doe has.
I gotta agree with you guys too. When I was about seven. I forgot my favorite jewel-studded hat at a local park. My parents immediately turned around so they could get it, but somebody had taken it but not to the lost and found (our park has one, and we looked there after we saw that it wasn’t where we left it). Somebody took my favorite hat in the whole wide world and it broke my heart. Given, the hat only cost about five dollars total, it was an enormous loss to me. It really kinda disappointed me to hear that Doe took that jacket because it was priced at around fifteen bucks. I’m not hating on you Doe, but it was just….I don’t know….it brought back those painful memories I have.
Even with all that said, you look absolutely smashing! I agree that mixing feminine clothes with masculine clothes is a great way to go! That’s what I plan on doing when I go to New York for acting school this June!

Oops, that was a reply to Maria and Stacy!
I love the 90′s! Grunge, Britpop and all the cool alternative music was so great! I’m a bit to young for really having lived it(born in the 80′s but in the later years), but I remember watching mv and wanting so much to look like Shirley Manson or Gwen Stefani. I loved the fashion and still use stuff like babydoll nighties as dresses, DrMartens, lace or fishnet tights, oversized cardigans and crushed velvet minidresses. Had it not been for me being 5’11 and already towering I’d wear a pair of plastic, chinky platformsandals to.
what you posted is exactly my favourite thing about the 90′s! I’m rocking the vintage grunge look to death right now. I also loved the music! my father would always play bands like Nirvana, Hole, the Cranberries, Stone Temple Pilots etc back then when I was only a little one lol :)
Question- I love your shoes, and I want to start wearing heels, but how do you wear heels that high? maybe you could make a post on it or give some tips, please?
best things of the 90s: nanos/tamagotchis, pokemon, sailor moon, any cartoon really, spice girls, backstreet boys, platforms, crimped hair, over-alls, being a little kid.
Wow, I wish stores here in Georgia sold jackets as nicely cut as that one is for $15!
stuning!
Your hair really reminds me of Shirley Manson of Garbage!
The 90′s (along with the 70′s and 80′s) was one of the best decades for music, regardless of what people say.
Drop Dead Fred, my favorite movie, was made then too.
I was in 6th grade to junior high during the beginning of the 90′s and spent the rest of that decade in high school.(class of 1999) I loved the hip hop, dance, Alternative Rock, Punk and metal music playing. and the movies that came out then I also liked the fact plaid was in, I liked the plaid dresses and floral baby doll dresses. I also remember girls wearing floral slip dresses over white T shirts with doc marten boots or mary-janes. Some of the hippy-ish clothes were cute. I loved the shows Clarissa explains it all, Blossom and My so called life. I loved how Clarissa dressed the most. I also liked “Blossom hats.”
