I still have to wear a uniform (I work for the NHS) and I still hate it! I try on a daily basis to spice things up, even if it's only doing something crazy with my hair, or painting my toenails 10 different colours. I've toyed with the idea of setting up my own business - one where I never have to wear a uniform again - but it's just too risky. For now, I'm confined to minor rebellions at work and outright insanity as soon as I'm off the payroll. Long live freedom!

it's funny to me to see so many people griping about school uniforms... i've always wanted one. i have always loved formal clothing and as a child i expressed that by buying as many school uniform type clothes as i could find! i wore pleated plaid skirts and peter pan blouses and longed for a pinnafore jumper and a crest badge. although, some of you have described some really nasty looking uniforms as far as color or fit. (i absolutely can't stand to wear clothes that don't fit right!)

my school had a dress code that was somewhat strict about some things, but no uniform. i always found that one of the best things to do was to carefully read the dress code at the beginning of the year... then you know what the rules are. you'd be surprised what isn't in the rule book. for example... that teacher who told you off for wearing a hair clip... was that actually against the rules or was the teacher having a bad day? it's probably against the rules to wear your skirt shorter, but is it against the rules to alter clothing? maybe you could make your uniform shirt fit you a little better? and if you get in trouble for it, calmly walk to the office and ask your principal why you're in trouble when you haven't broken any rules. if that won't work... decorate your school book covers and notebooks with original art, wear things that can't be seen, but also...
i bet a lot of people in your school have the same complaints about your school's uniform policy as you do. get together. don't do anything loud or rude or break things, but stage protests. write letters or editorials for your school's paper. have a protest after school. go to the governing body meetings of your school (school board or whatever.) and politely request some time to discuss your problems with the uniform policy. don't be rude, it won't help. but you can definitely talk about your problems with not being able to wear something warmer than a skirt in winter or being too warm in summer, or about relaxing slightly some of the accessory use... nothing major, but i don't see how someone wearing hair clips or something the way they like with naturally colored hair is going to start a riot! treat your teachers and administrators like calm, reasonable people. don't give them trouble, just talk to them. maybe you'll be able to get them to see your point of view.

your mom sounds horrible! but maybe she's just reacting to things she doesn't understand? i think part of what you need to do is save your money so you can move out, but you should still sit down and talk to her. calmly. tell her you love her and her getting angry or critical of you really hurts. tell her you're growing up and becoming a woman, and that includes needing to find your own style. tell her you feel happy at your weight and that your body is healthy. then listen. find out exactly what she has problems with. you need to find a compromise. for example... at family gatherings or when you go places with your mom... maybe you can tone it down a little? not completely normal looking, but as the other poster said, make your clothing suit the occasion. like if it's a formal event, you can wear any kind of formal clothing, but it needs to look right for that event. if you're going to the grocery store, more natural looking makeup and casual clothing. when you're not going to be seen with your mom you can wear what you like. or maybe if you keep your grades up and come home on time for curfew, etc. you can wear what you like out with your friends. if your mom is worried you're showing skin, maybe come up with some way to make it seem like you're not? showing her examples of other "normal" girls who wear much more revealing clothing can help here. when i was wearing weird clothing, that was one of the ways i squared it with my mom... my clothing was a lot more conservative than most girls my age. if that works, use it.

Being raised and born in Denmark we do not belove in school uniforms. The only School that has a uniform codex in DK is a very expensive boardinschool where the rich send there kids of to become lawyers and stuff like that.
In DK you are allowed to dress mostley as you like, mostley, if you clothes show too musch skin, then yu should cover it up a bit. But we can pretty much wear what we want, clothes make-up and shoes.
I'm actually one of those who would like to have a school that has uniforms. Why? well Denmark isn the land in the north that has the biggest problems when it comes to bullying and mockings others in school... Så i tought that a uniform would at least kill "omg you not wearing 69? Liek latarh you loser"... But many teens (funny enough those who are populair) didn't see it fir, since they counldn't show of their "brand new D&G blouse ;D"
