When I started Lime Crime Makeup, I started receiving emails from girls looking to experiment with color but unsure which shades would look good on them. When it comes to trying bolder lipsticks or eyeshadows, it can be hard to tell what works on you and what doesn’t – and who wants makeup they don’t look good in?!
During our SpaceNK Tour, I met and recommended Lime Crime lipsticks to dozens of girls, all the while learning about coloration types. Digital Consultation Week is your chance to get mine and the LC Team’s expert opinion, as well as other girls on the blog, what shades are right for YOU!
OK! SO HOW DOES THIS WORK???
Step 1
Upload your picture to a photo-sharing site and post it in comments. Be sure the picture clearly shows your features and is not too dark.
Step 2
Describe your eye, hair and skin color to the best of your ability. If your skin has yellow, olive, or red undertones, do mention that – it matters!
Step 3
How adventurous are you willing to get? Describe on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being a ‘Color-Shy Cutie’ and ‘Rainbow Bright’s got nothing on me!’ being a 10.
Step 4
Expect a reply from me & the L.C. team – as well as other willing participants – on what colors will bring your face to life, and which shades to stay away from!

Hi Megan!
You have a beautiful smile which can be accentuated by dark pinks, like Centrifuchsia. If you’re going for a 60s look, try a dab of orange on your lips, like My Beautiful Rocket. For the eyes, try lighter colors with some black eyeliner – think Fairy Wings will look gorgeous on you!

Hair: Brown, gets lighter on summer
Skin: Olive undertones, I sometimes look a little pale but I could get pretty tanned in no time (if I ever got under the sun, lol).
Adventurous: I barely use any make up (I’m not wearing any in the picture) because I really don’t know what to use and also I’m too insecure and I’m afraid I’m going to get too many attention , so I’d say I’m on the shy side… I will go for the 5 :)

Hi there! You have gorgeous brown eyes but your stand-out feature is your lips. Whether you go light or dark, stick to warmer colors – oranges, corals, and warm or true reds. My Beautiful Rocket and Retrofuturist will look wonderful on you! For the eyes, I recommend turquoises and greens such as Duchess, Mermaid and Elf – they will make your eyes pop.

Hair: Brown, with a slight auburn tinge to it.
Eyes: Maple Syrup Brown in open sunlight.
Skin: Sort of a golden caramel or bronze color, there’s definitely some yellow undertones there.
Adventuresome level: 7, 8 or 9. I love color but I’m low-maintenance, so I rock the natural look more often than not.
I’ve never owned a lipstick before so I’d be happy to know what you’d all suggest.

Hi Comtesse,
Lets start with lipstick…Styletto (black) def., No She Didn’t (Blue) or Airborne Unicorn (Purple with a pink hue) for an every day shade to get you started if you haven’t been a lipstick person before!
Eye wise, if you want to make a statement go for Lime Criminal and Cleopatra, blended or separate, and Cleopatra works great as an eyeliner. Empress and Circus would also work great too!
Good luck with trying lipstick for the first time!

Eye Color: The classic blue, where it is ligtest around the pupil and gets darker, when you get out in the corners of the iris
Skin Color: Light and sensitive skin with slightly red and beige undertones.
Hair Color: Blonde, with a lot of brown stripes in. NOT colored, it is my natural hair color

Hey Laura, your eye color sounds fascinating! Make it pop with yellows, golds and pinks like Circus Girl and Primadonna. I think Lime Criminal (bright lime green) will look really awesome with your hair color too!
You look phenomenal in Cosmopop!!! It’s a lipstick with a very 60s feel, the look you can rock like no one else. Go for lighter shades like D’Lilac and Great Pink Planet, and if you want to experiment with a more classic look, Retrofuturist red is always a great choice!

On a scale of 1-10: I generally don’t wear much makeup, just eyeliner, mascara, and maybe a little blush. However, I am not afraid to branch out and use to some color. I’ll give myself a 5 or 6.

You will look stunning in red lipstick. Retrofuturist was made for you! For the eyes, try Empress (purple) and Enchant (dark, blackened green) – both will look gorgeous against your hair.

Hair: Varies a lot. At the moment, it looks like in the first picture, but the blue’s pretty washed out.
Skin: Only thing I know is that I’ve got very light skin; And I’m using MAC’s foundations in NC15, so I guess I’m more warm toned? Although I can wear cold colours easier, like blues and purples and pinks. But I can also wear red, so I don’t really know. :/
Adventuresome: Although I pretty much only wear black, I love to experiment with colourful makeup, so I’d say a 9 at least! :)

We have a bright metallic red eyeshadow called Siren – perfect for you! It’s currently being reformulated but should be back in stock at the end of August. I would also love to see you in Primadonna – a vivid hot pink! You’re right about the jewel tones, they look great on you – bright blues, turquoises and even a pop of yellow! Shoe Addict, Duchess, Elf and Circus Girl are highly recommended.
For the lips, you can get away with most LC shades – No She Didn’t, D’Lilac, Airborne Unicorn would look especially stunning on you.

The first 2 photos(I really hope they all work) are with pretty intense makeup, (false lashes on the top and bottom with Countessa Fluorescent lipstick =)
and the third photo is with more natural on the eyes and nothing on the lips

Definitely Centrifuchsia, and as you’ve already discovered Countessa Florescent – it looks brilliant on you hun! If you want to match a purple outfit Airbourne Unicorn would also suit you, and you could also pull off Styletto and Retrofuturist – actually, you suit the exact same collection of colours as I do!
For really nice every day magic dusts you’re looking for Fairy Wings (limited edition) and Nymph. I’d want to see you in Medusa if you want a smoky eye look, and Shoe Addict for special occasions! The blue will really bring out your eyes with the eyeliner your wearing in the first photo, and you do killer eyeliner girl!

Hi Alice! Welcome to Wonderland! :) What’s missing in your magical world is some Great Pink Planet lipstick – a pale, pale pink! You would also look ethereal in D’Lilac and Airborne Unicorn. If you feel like something brighter, I recommend Countessa Fluorescent and No She Didn’t.
There are 2 types of blondes in my experience: the kind that look good in heavy eye makeup and the kind that don’t. You’re former, and will look amazing in eyeliner smoked out with colors like Enchant and Fairy Wings for a highlighter. Stay magical!

So you want to keep it simple? Then ‘Cleopatra’ is definitely the perfect shade for you, which will really stand out against your fascinating eyes. As for your lips: Cosmopop is one of our most decent lipsticks, I bet it’ll look great on you!

Wow, you’re a babe! You’re the kind of person who can pull off every color in the book – and then some! One look that would be totally hot on you is smokey eye (Enchant or Medusa magic dust) + strong lip, such as Centrifuchsia/Retrofuturist. Don’t forget to dab matching lipstick on your cheeks as blush!
At the same time I can totally see you in something like Cosmopop and Great Pink Planet with shimmery eyeshadow such as Fairy Wings. If you’re looking for something edgier, you can do Circus Girl, Duchess, and Empress. But yeah, basically, I can’t think of a color that wouldn’t look amazing on you!!!

My eye color is a medium brown.
Hair is a very dark brown, I usually dye it a little darker than my natural hair, so basically as dark brown as it can get without being completely black.
My skin color is fair, with a little olive undertones when I do get some tan. I do actually get decently tan in the summertime.
I am SO ready to try some crazy color lipsticks. 10! 10! 10! I love love love makeup, and usually do crazy ones like my rainbow zebra print and cheetah print eyes. I’ve always wanted to try a crazy lip, but i do bite my lips a lot so the colors never last (a habit im trying really hard to break). I’ve always really wanted to try a bright pink bold lip.

For you, I really recommend using a lip brush to blend Centrafushia and Airborne Unicorn together. Actually, hold on, I’ve filmed a video tutorial using those two showing you how to do the blending! Sorry the lighting isn’t very good… http://bit.ly/bIpKgy Centrafushia stains your lips slightly pink so it will def. stay on for ages! Also for you, Countessa Fluorescent!
Eye wise? You said bright! Empress (Purple) with Lime Criminal (Green) half and half across each lid and blended in the middle with thick black eyeliner. Or you could use Circus as an eyeliner instead with thick black mascara!

You probably get asked this a lot, but what is your ethnic background? You have a very exotic look. :) I especially love your skin – I bet you look amazing in bronzer!

Well, I hope this looks okay! No makeup except for some silver eyeliner, which is hardly noticeable.
Hair: Brown, plus a natural streak of white-blonde and blue streaks.
Eyes: Mostly blue, but has some grayish and greenish tones to it.
Skin: It’s pale, although a little pink… the pic made it look super pink though.
And as for scale, I’d say I’m a 4 or 5 (I’m such a wimp XD).

With that hair, I half-expected you to be a 15 on the adventurous scale! :))) But it’s ok, not everybody is comfortable with bright makeup right away. I think you would look adorable in Fairy Wings – a transluscent white with purple sheen. It’s the kind of color that isn’t in-your-face but still very unusual. If you want to try something darker, how about Pompadour – it will match your blue streaks perfectly!
Stick to lighter lip colors such as Great Pink Planet and Airborne Unicorn (you can transition into darker lip colors in a couple years).

Hi Jaci! Nice guitar! Makes me miss mine, I haven’t played in a while. Sounds like red is your favorite color – and for a good reason. It looks fabulous against your pale skin and dark hair. Retrofuturist is a vibrant red with incredible staying power – as a performer, I’m sure it’s something you can appreciate! You would also look mysterious in Centrifuchsia (bright fuchsia pink) and Styletto (black). And congratulations, you’re one of those special few who can rock No She Didn’t!
Eyes: keep them dark and smokey with Enchant or Medusa with a pop of Mermaid just to the center of the lid. Primadonna would look hot on you (a bright pink) and definitely check out Siren, a metallic red eyeshadow that will be in in stock in September. :)

We all get a little conservative with age, but an 8 is still pretty awesome! :) I think you would look beautiful in dark blues, sheer golds and light violets. Try Pompadour, Nymph and Fairy Wings. For the lips, I recommend Cosmopop, Great Pink Planet and Retrofuturist.
Eyes- dark brown
Hair- A dark brown when it`s all natural. I’ve recently went 100% pure black with a blueish shade underneath.
Skin- My skin is very very plale and with pink undertones
And on a scale of 1-10, I’d say I’m a 10.

What a cool hair colour, invadersilke, ‘Retrofurist’ will look perfect you, ‘Styletto’ as well (mostly because you’re black-haired now, hahaha). Btw, I like the lipstick you’re wearing in the picture, it looks so fruity yet mysterious, good choice. As for your lips you can simply wear everything you want, but I especially recommend ‘Duchess’ and ‘Pompadour’ to you!

I LOOOVE styletto I have a black lipstick but it’s more like a gloss and it’s nowhere as cool and bold as doe’s creation, mine is really sheer so I have to use it in layers which sucks and I’ve heard that limecrime colors are very very pigmented which suits me perfectly!…I would surely go for it! I am actually thinking about buying retrofurist also ;)

Hi cutie! You look best in greens and blues, which contrast with your eyes and hair. Try Elf, Duchess, Mermaid and Shoe Addict.
For lips, I can see you in Cosmopop, Great Pink Planet and Airborne Unicorn.

Eyes: Grey-blue. Depending on the light, they look different colours – camera flash makes them bright blue, but that’s not how they actually look!
Hair: In winter, light brown/dark blonde. Lightens up in summer to a mid blonde with definite red tones.
Skin: super pale, pink undertones, freckling in summer over cheeks/nose.
Scale: Depends on the situation, but I am willing to try out most looks! I’ll say 7.

I think you already figured out the perfect lipstick for you – a bright red, e.g. ‘Retrofurist’ and also ‘Centrifuchsia’ is something that should jump into your vanity case. As for your eyes I recommend Circus Girl, Duchess and Cleopatra.

You look like a modern day Snow White. Love it! I’d say for your pout, stick to rich colors like Centrifucshia or Retrofuturist. I think if you’re willing to have a little fun with color, go for Countessa Fluorescent which will look great against your milky complexion.
A purple like Empress will look great with your dark eyes and hair, and if you’re willing to try it, I think a rich blue like Pomadour will add a hint of whimsy without overtaking your features or looking too wild. :) For an everyday, go with Cleopatra!

Hair – quite a darkish blue – pretty much as it is in the pic, although I tend to have to wait a bit between dyeings – it fades to a minty green usually

Wow, you’re so ethereal! For your eyes, I would look so see some whimsical “darker” shades and metallics, like Mirror Mirror, Medusa, or Enchant. Greens like Lime Criminal or Elf and blue greens like Mermaid will look equally amazing with your mermaid hair and mysterious grey eyes.
As for your lips, I would love to see Great Pink Planet. I think it will look stunning against your darker features and hair and your skin!

I know for a fact you’ll look beautiful in red and berry colors, like Centrifuchsia and Retrofuturist. On the eyes, try dark blues and indigos – like Pompadour. I also think you’d look adorable in Fairy Wings just under the brow.

Hi Carrie! 16 is not too young at all, I think I started experimenting with makeup when I was all 12. ;)
You have beautiful features, it’s hard to ruin a face like that. I think you would look wonderful in a dark, smokey eyes – I recommend Medusa (it’s out of stock right now but is coming back end of summer). Nymph is a lovely gold sheen that looks good on anyone, regardless of your proficiency level.
For the lips, I recommend Retrofuturist and Centrifusia – darker colors suit your face best!

Hey Alice, sorry it took me to long to get back to you. You have a very unique face – and I like it! Red hair definitely looks best on you, it makes you look like a model. :)
The thing to remember about makeup is that it’s not permanent, and the whole point is to have fun with it. If you like it, what does it matter if someone else doesn’t? But, if you haven’t yet worked up the moxy to wear bright colors, I recommend starting gradually with your lips. Why lips? Because lips have natural pigmentation and the change won’t be so drastic, plus it’s faster! I recommend starting with ‘safer’ colors like Retrofuturist and My Beautiful Rocket (which can be also worn as blush when dabbed on cheeks). Go easy on the eyes – some mascara and maybe fill in your brows just to give your features more definition. And you’re all set!

Edgy – I like it! I think with your cool dark hair, dusts like Circus Girl, Medusa, Enchant, and Mermaid are really going to pop! You have the kind of eyes that can pull off a solid color or smokey look well, so feel free to play around either way!
As for your lips, 11 huh? Would you be willing to sport Styletto? I think you could rock it out! Retrofuturist and Centrifucshia are going to be great colors on you, too!

Before I start, I figure I should apologize for the crappy lighting… We have fluorescents in our house, and being as pasty white as I am, they can make me blend into the walls a bit, so I had to stick with the late afternoon sunlight, hahah.
Anyhow, my eyes can look more blue or more green depending on what colours I wear, but usually lean more towards green. I’ve got what my family likes to call the “moon tan” with neutral leaning a bit towards pink undertones but not completely, and fairly dark brown hair.
When it comes to how daring I’m willing to go with makeup… I’d say probably a nine to a ten.

Hey Adair, you’re a stunner! You remind me of Michelle Trachtenberg – features and coloration. When I see similarity, I always recommend that people watch the celebrity and see what works for them.
Much like Michelle, you look good in dark eyeshadow. Medusa (currently out of stock but back by the end of summer) – will look phenomenal on you! I would also love to see you in brighter pinks like Primadonna, and turquoises like Mermaid.
Lips: you have a naturally pigmented pout, which can be played up with colors like Cetrifuchsia and Countessa Fluorescent, but but pinks are for wussies! If you’re feeling more adventurous, try Styletto and No She Didn’t and see what you think! ;D

Eye – bright Deep sea blue, i get compliments on my eye colour all the time.
Hair – Light/dark brown mix colour. I am going to get my hsir cut into bangs soon but the colour will stay the same.
Skin – I have a oily conplextion which is a alabaster tone.
I would say I am around a 7/8 on the scale. I have recently introduced more colours into my life. It took me a long time to choose a lipstick from your website as I wasn’t sure which would suit me and they are all so wonderful! I got GPP as I like pink and knew I could wear it happily. I am very glad that your doing this as i would if loved to meet you on your tour and got advice from you in person.
I like to go for the smokey eye look a lot and also wear magic dust fairy wings mixed with a light brown/gold eye colour a lot when at work but I am always open to trying new shades!

For the lips: I’d recommend Airborne Unicorn and Centrifuschia! I believe it would be good to combine with you!!! They are different, good to match with your skin color and your hair. But I don’t recommend D’Lilac nor Styletto to you… too light and too dark colors doesnt seem to fit you!
For the eyes: why don’t you try orange and purple and pink? I believe if you mix those would be even better!!!
Go for Cleopatra, Abracadabra (new color) and Empress.

You have beautiful (big) lips and smaller eyes, so let’s try to balance it, okz?
For the lips: I’d recommend you to avoid lighter colors and to go for medium to darker tones (not that you need to use Stylleto). I’d recommend mainly: Centrifuschia and My Beautiful Rocket, but you can go with Airborne Unicorn and other colors =)
For the eyes: Darker colors makes your eyes smaller, so I’d tell you to invest in pink and orange colors like Cleopatra, Abracadabra (new), Cupcake Thief (new) – avoid gold also because of your skin(always prefer bronze)
Eyes- Dark/Medium Brown
Hair- Long wavy and dark brown, reddish undertones
Skin- Light tan/Beige skin with yellowish undertones and rosy cheeks.
From 1 to 10… probably a 6. I tend to use natural colors but sometimes go a little different and try brighter shades :)

For the day, you should wear Airborne Unicorn (it is different, but I think a purple lipstick would do great along with your features). For the eyes, you can use light pinks or oranges, with touches of Nymph or Fairy Wings to make the look lighter – avoid darker colors on everyday time, since you’re not that risk during those periods
For the party nights, go wild: Purple + Red + Blue would look great on your eyes!!!
And you can also go for darker lipsticks, as My Beautiful Rocket and Centrifuschia… and if you really want to go crazy, You can mix some colors, including No She Didn’t and Styletto to make a nice lipstick just for your parties =)

As for your undertones, I see pink and yellow. :) For your eyes, I see greens look amazing on you, so if you do a smokey eye using Enchant, Lime Criminal, and Circus Girl, that would look really hot! You can play with green-blues like Mermaid and Elf, too. For everyday looks, Cleopatra and Nymph would look really stunning.
As for your lips, they’re really full, so feel free to play with darker, richer shades like Centrifucshia, My Beautiful Rocket, and Airborne Unicorn. Avoid Cosmopop and D’lilac as their cool tones might look too contrasting against your warm skin tone.

eye colour: dark brown/black. in the sunlight its a medium brown.
hair: I wear a hijab, I cover my hair and neck. The hijab colours I tend to wear that suit my colouring are creams, tan, nudes, and pale pastel colours.
skin: I am south asian, however I have a neutral skintone. It’s neither warm or cool, and I look well in both cool and warm colours.
in terms of colour for day to day I’m a 1-3. However, being Pakistani makeup/outfits are VERY loud/bright/colourful and on those occasions I’d be a 7-10!
I’ve been wanting to get my mother one of the 2 purple shades because she likes purple lipstick but I’m unsure of which to get. I’m leaning towards Airborne Unicorn. I wasn’t sure she would want one of these really bright colors but she said she loved the Countessa Fluorescent when she saw me wearing it. She doesn’t wear any other makeup besides lipstick so it doesn’t have to compete with eye makeup or anything. What do you think?

As for makeup, stay clear of oranges and yellows on the eyes or lips. Blues, blue-greens, purples, pinks, and silvers are going to be best on your eyes! Duchess, Elf, and Mermaid are going to be stunning on you, as well as Empress, Fairy Wings, and Primadonna. Feel free to play around with colors for rainbow effects! You can definitely pull them off.
Your lips are going to look best in light pinks and purples. D’Lilac or Great Pink Planet are going to look absolutely adorable on you. But don’t shy away from brighter shades like Countessa Fluorescent or Airborne Unicorn – they will also look very flattering.

Cool! I’d love some advice. I love to have fun, but I’m a pretty plain Jane most of the time :( I never know what to do. But I’d be willing to try anything! I need to start living up to my sculpture-making, graphic-designing, cupcake-baking crazy fun self. (And I’m 25, regardless of how I look 16!)
Eyes: Blue, with green around the irises. They change tones depending on what I wear, can be light or dark blue, green, or grey looking (when I wear black).
Skin: Fair, with a hint of tiny warm tones, but not much. I sunburn like no tomorrow, and I don’t tan at all. But I’m not translucent, either. I already know that wearing jewel tones looks best with my skin tone.
Hair: golden brown with some natural red highlights. I’m not blonde, but I’m not a true brunette, either.

I use Punky color and I mix Turquoise and Spring green! Thank you though. It has been this color for a little over 2 years now and I am thinking of making my whole head Teal instead of just the front. You should do it though! It is liberating to have hair that speaks for you.

Eyes: Green. Yay! They used to be hazel, but now they’re green. Very happy!
Skin colour: Pale with freckles, pink undertones. I’ve got some foundation on in the pictures, but use a bit more and concealer when heading out for the night.
Adventure Scale: 10. I don’t wear much make-up to work or for everyday activities, but when I go out with friends I like to make as much a statement as possible.
