When I started Lime Crime Makeup, I started receiving emails from girls looking to experiment with color but unsure which shades would look good on them. When it comes to trying bolder lipsticks or eyeshadows, it can be hard to tell what works on you and what doesn’t – and who wants makeup they don’t look good in?!
During our SpaceNK Tour, I met and recommended Lime Crime lipsticks to dozens of girls, all the while learning about coloration types. Digital Consultation Week is your chance to get mine and the LC Team’s expert opinion, as well as other girls on the blog, what shades are right for YOU!
OK! SO HOW DOES THIS WORK???
Step 1
Upload your picture to a photo-sharing site and post it in comments. Be sure the picture clearly shows your features and is not too dark.
Step 2
Describe your eye, hair and skin color to the best of your ability. If your skin has yellow, olive, or red undertones, do mention that – it matters!
Step 3
How adventurous are you willing to get? Describe on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being a ‘Color-Shy Cutie’ and ‘Rainbow Bright’s got nothing on me!’ being a 10.
Step 4
Expect a reply from me & the L.C. team – as well as other willing participants – on what colors will bring your face to life, and which shades to stay away from!

I would say put the focus on your eyes. I’m crazy about purple and when I see a face where it works it makes my day – so thanks for that because you can work Empress beautifully. I’m also a big fan of using Lime Criminal as a high light with Empress, which I think is something you should consider: try a little in the corners of your eyes. A little dab of Great Pink Planet for your lips could work wonders too, but I’d let your eyes speak!

This picture is so small! But your dark hair and eye brows are to die for: they are going to frame your face perfectly for a classic red lip. Since you’re not feeling too much “adventure”, this is a classic look but a striking one:
- minimal eye makeup, I hesitate to even recommend Medusa, but try your favorite black eyeliner, just a tiny bit, no cat-eye or smokey eye or any elaborate shapes or blending.
- Retrofuturist on your lips full on and you will light up the room. If you find yourself getting more adventurous, build your eyes a little more smokey with Medusa and consider a clear gloss over your lips. But to start make it all about your lips. Black hair + true red lips = pure elegance.

I have to say you look awesome with a nice deep red in this pic! But I’m assuming you’re looking for something a little different. We did an LC shoot with Doe’s sister (who has very light hair and dark eye brows like you), and Countessa Flourescent rocked that shoot. We gave her a very fierce, smudgy smokey eye with Medusa, but it was a danger-beauty look. If you want something a little less intimidating, I would still recommend a full swipe of Countessa and Medusa around the eyes, but apply the Medusa with much less smudge and try a little touch of Lime Criminal at the corner of your eyes or as a very fine liner just below the water line as a wink to your playful side.

skin: goodness, i’m not quite sure how to describe this. Pretty pale, with yellowish undertones, I suppose. I’m not sure on this one:P

Hi Beth,
You have gorgeous eyes that pretty much speak for themselves. I would just frame them a bit with a nice dark shade like Medusa or Enchant. Try applying wet with a fine brush as a liner rather than treating your whole eyelid with product.
Your lips are full and fab, and you owe it to them to get them noticed every once in a while with a statement color! Airborne Unicorn can be a blond’s best friend and I’d love to introduce you to the ‘Corn! :) I’d rock it with a full layer.

I see how a red could look super cute on your lips! (Have you tried Retrofuturist?) I would stay away from cooler oranges like Cosmopop as I have a feeling it might wash you out, but definitely give a bright My Beautiful Rocket or Countessa Fluorescent a shot!
On your eyes, I think any blue will make your eyes pop. I’d love to see a sultry smokey look with Medusa though, too. If you wanna really have some fun, try a bright pink like Primadonna!

You remind me of actress Amanda Seyfried! :) I think you’re skin tone is great and I believe you could play with a lot of different colors, especially blues, greens, and pinks. Try Pomadour and Shoe Addict on those blue eyes of yours, with a little Lime Criminal in the corner of the eye to brighten the look. On your lips, I think a pink would be best, like Countessa Fluorescent or Great Pink Planet. Stick with lighter, brighter colors on your pout!

I love your sweet lolita dress – so cute! For your eyes, I would stick with greens, yellows, and bronzey colors like Cleopatra and Enchant, but don’t be afraid to play with something bright green like Lime Criminal, which will really look great on you and really pop against your eyes! As for your lips, I think your best look would be an orange or a pink. Centrifucshia or My Beautiful Rocket would be go-to shades, but I think Great Pink Planet or even Cosmopop, if you’re feeling up to it, would really pop against your olive, glowing skin. :)

Hair: Purple with a blue/turquoise layer underneath
Skin: Very pale with warm-ish undertones (I easily get rosey cheeks)
Scale: I’d say 8-9. My hair has been all colours of the rainbow, but am not quite brave enough to try rocking “No she didn’t”! Also, could you give me any suggestions as to how to make “Cosmopop” work for me, please? I adore the colour but I don’t think it adores my colouring :( Thankyou! x

Hello! I think for you pinks and purples are your best friend! Try a smokey eye using a purple like Empress on your big eyes to make them really sultry, using Fairy Wings as a highlighter. You can also definitely rock pinks on your lids (Primadonna) or a blue-green like Elf. For your lips, try Countess Fluorescent, Airborne Unicorn, Centrifucshia, or My Beautiful Rocket!
A tip for Cosmopop – I have the same problem! I love my Cosmopop but it totally washed me out! Try layering it over a Countessa Fluorescent as a base to get a creamy, flattering peach tone or over My Beautiful Rocket as a base to achieve a more “friendly” pastel orange that will look better against your skin!

Eyes: Hazel – they’re mainly brown but there is some green (and maybe a tiny bit of gold?) in there.
Hair: Brown – warm-ish I think, but then again I’m not overly good with colours. Depending on the light, it sometimes has a bit of a reddish sheen.
Skin: Pale (although I tan very easily) with maybe pink undertones? Again I’m not really sure! Sorry!
Colour adventureness: 9 or 10 – I will do almost anything on my eyes although I’m not a huge fan of glitter. But I am happy to do ridiculous way out colours. However I hardly ever use lipstick as I just don’t know what to do with it! The only lipstick I really ever use is a dark red which I use on stage (or sometimes the nude which I have on in this picture – although I really don’t like it too much).
I never ever use blush. Ever.

Pretty! I would try a yellow like Circus Girl or a bronze like Cleopatra on your lids to make that pretty hazel really pop! As for your lips, I really feel the orange tones in that nude lipstick, so I’m gonna say try My Beautiful Rocket and, if you’re feeling really adventerous, Cosmopop! I think you could pull those off beautifully. Try to stay darker with your pink shades, like Centrifucshia, which would look lovely, too.

I used to be much more outgoing with both my clothes and my makeup when I was in high school, but when I got to college it was like I didn’t have the energy or desire. I’m wondering if you have any lip color suggestions for those of us with slightly yellow teeth… My teeth are definitely not terrible, but I love bold colors and whenever I try out some bright red lipstick or (your wonderful) CosmoPop lipstick, it just makes my teeth stand out (and not in a good way!) Perhaps you know of a shade that will make teeth look whiter in comparison :-D

Have you tried Crest White Strips? They’re a bit pricey, but the results are worth it. I whitened my teeth with them almost 2 years ago and I’m just now going to whiten again. That way you can wear any awesome color you want and never worry about your teeth looking yellowish! :-)

turquoise makes teeth look whiter, so out of the LC line it’d be No She Didn’t! but if you’re not afer blue lips, lipstick queen has a line out with turquoise shimmer in them and benefit has a gloss called California Kissin’ which does the same effect :)

You’re another girl with fantastic cheek bones! Makes the photographer’s job easy. ;)
I would recommend a look that is eye-intensive. I love light eyes cutting through a darker eye shadow and it helps that your hair is light. Medusa or is the safest option, but I would recommend Enchant strongly to swing your eyes more toward the greener end of the spectrum- and if you are feeling adventurous go for some deep blues like Pompadour.

First I have to say: Cheek bone love! You’re a photographer’s dream, even with the shadows in the picture I can tell your face has the potential to catch light so easily. Anyway, on to the makeup!
Three words: classic red lips! Retrofuturist will turn heads if you apply it full-on. I wish I could see your hair more, but from what I can see and from looking at your eyes that red will pop beautifully. Since you are a ’5′ in terms of adventure my recommendation would be to do strong eyes OR lips, not both at once. So if you don’t like the bright red lip, I’d say let your eyes do the talking with Duchess or an Empress/Fairy Wings combo and some eyeliner, compliment that with a lighter pink lip like Great Pink Planet- but just dab on a tiny bit, the lippies are so pigmented you only need a small amount.

Your smile is overwhelming, it’s a rarity – a natural smile :) Well, here we go. Eyes: Cleopatra (for the simpler looks), Circus Girl (for a little more ‘WOW’), Shoe Addict and totally Medusa (for your wild side in the evenings). Lipsticks: Retrofurist, which perfectly suits your brown hair, Centrifuchsia and even Cosmopop (which is not THAT simple, but the simplest of all the shades mentioned).

And I like to play up my eyes more than my lips because I am always playing saxophone or singing and so lipcolour comes off easy. What a great idea, btw! :) Thanks

(This one shows my undertones the best, as I’m flushed- more magenta-pink than peachy-pink. Bare face, 2 strips of cheap lashes, raspberry colored bangs.)
Brown eyes- orange flecks but milk-chocolate dark.
Black hair, dyed.
Fair skin with cool undertones… my little bit of a tan has mostly faded.
I either wear black-framed glasses or my contacts so I can show off more bold looks… totally not afraid of color! I prefer nude glossy lips(my go-to is MAC Underaged Lipglass) with a really fun eye but I love a bright lip with something neutral-but-not-naked like a shimmery nude eyeshadow or tons of mascara.

In 5 days, it will have been a whole month since I posted here (#138) and still no response. :( I’m starting to wonder if they just gave up on finishing…
