Doe Deere’s makeup tour
Category: Unicorn Queen
As you can imagine, I spend a lot of time at my makeup table. As someone who believes that our surroundings make us who we are, I wanted my station to be in tune with my personality – and decorated accordingly! A few things to be noted:
- I collect all things makeup-shaped and makeup-related (makes gift-giving wayyy easy for friends & relatives, hehe!).
- Flying pigs, gold, and unicorns are a common theme in my house.
- I prefer to do my makeup standing up, so my dresser functions as my vanity!
- Poppy King really is my greatest inspiration.

Ooh pretty! And I have that exact same unicorn stuffed animal! Only mine is a bit bigger and purple :D
I have to carry my makeup around a lot to photo shoots and even more now that I’m at college. So as much as I would love to have a vanity, I just invested in one of Sephora’s professional makeup cases. It’s effing huge, heavy, and fits all of my makeup in it.
When people don’t know what it is they get nervous and ask if it’s a weapons case/bomb/etc…
One day I’ll have a vanity, but for now I like my (apparently) threatening-looking studio case ;)

I’ve bought a silver baroque vanity table. I love it. I’m still doing my make up at my desk though because my room is so cluttered right now that the vanity is stuffed in a dark corner where I can’t tell wth I am doing.

i too do my makeup at my dresser while standing. i cannot sit down it makes it so much harder especially because i love to shove my face in the mirror (makeup perfectionist) to make sure every little line and smudge are perfect!
my dream vanity would probably somewhat resemble my mother’s: ivory counter top bigger than my dresser w/ 60in mirror inside a gold picture frame w/ beautiful bright star shaped lights hanging over head.

a fellow pig lover! i am also an avid collector of little pig figurines, so it makes me very happy when others can share in that joy. that gold flying one is adorable. my favorites out of my collection are a half cat half pig ceramic statue and a rubber piggy, like a rubber duckie, with a duck’s bill. and of course my good luck piggy bank that’s black with a glow in the dark snout and lime green bats on it’s sides.

I’m in the process of redecorating my room now. Finally, after 17 years, my own room! I want a black dresser with an ornate black mirror, and tons of little make-up mirrors!
Unicorns are all over my place, too =) Altho I’m not as bad as that girl from Dodgeball xD.

So far it seems like your apartment has a lot of “you” elements to it. Does he collect stuff as well and is it throughout your place too?
And I prefer to do make up sitting down. I don’t have the best vanity set up. I sit on my bedroom floor in front of a full length mirror. I blow dry my hair there as well. I need to find a better set us since lighting is not great over there. I can’t do make up in the bathroom since I don’t have a lot of counter space (just a stand alone sink) so there is no room to put anything down.

i do my makeup in the bathroom. I keep my traincase under the sink and haul it out every morning to do makeup and put it back. I’d love a dedicated makeup station, but I’ve been doing it this way for probably 15 years now so I guess I’m used to it!

This was so entertaining. Nothing beats a glimpse of ‘real’, especially concerning someone who represents a brand. I love peeks into people’s lives. Your table is a far cry better than my most recent locales (I just wrapped a film in Utah as a makeup artist) and I’ve done makeup in the back of a van, a mobile home, an icky kitchen, a bathroom of a house, and oh yes, in the middle of the street. LOVED every second tho!

mine actully a self on top of my dresser.
and i keep my makeup in my fave tin.
and my cheapie makeup in another tin.
and to dress it up. i have a couple of jelwary boxes on there,
and to girl it up. lol. wha?
domo. baby gonzo. and a maneki neko. and of course the doll my dad made me.
he taught me every thing i know bout make up and sewing, and yes he’s straight. ♥ just the olny boy w/ 5 sisters

I do my makeup sitting down on my closet floor. I have a huge walk-in closet, and a tall mirror on the back of the door. Even when I go to a friend’s house, I bring a compact mirror, prop it up, and sit on their floor to do my makeup. It’s all crooked if I stand up!

i do my makeup in front of my dresser, i have “eyes” “lips” “face” products in seperate containers in the top drawer. My Dresser is in between 2 windows so gets plenty of light! I’ve been lazy with my makeup for ages (working too hard) but have gotten back into it as it does make you feel better.

I do my makeup in my bathroom, but since subbing has picked up and such, my brother and I are competing for the bathroom and the mirror…so I have a vanity area in my room that I don’t use, so I’m customizing the room for my tastes…

So cool! I love your lipstick purse but I see why you don’t use it for that it doesn’t seem to have proper handles it would hang upside down and look weird. I LOVE those lip band-aids they’re freakin awesome! I collect kids banages to keep things interesting, i have so far, Shrek, Littlest pet shop (so cute!), Hello kitty, the backyardigans lol. I’d like barbie but I don’t like the ones I see I wish they made classic 50’s barbie band-aids, wouldn’t that be cool!?
The lipsticks look a little small. Damn oh well they’re not tiny i’m buying. Oh and yes pigs are awesome. I had a pig friend once then she was dinner at my aunts house now i only eat bacon (which comes from a magical bacon fairy I SWEAR!) I also met some pigs of a different breed at my brothers schools’ land lab (he raised sheep) that wanted to eat me, i’ve never experienced anything more like a horor film (and i almost died in the loony bin!) I’m like “why are they gathering and staring at me like that” and he’s like “they want to eat you D*******K! Get away from there!” yup some kinds of pigs eat people! But some are still sweet don’t worry!
Oh I must say that I noticed we have the same exact hair texture! Have you tried Loreal Studio glass shine shine spray. Not that you don’t look great in all your photoshoots I just thought if you have very similar hair to mine and if it’s the best thing i’ve ever used you must try it!

I forgot to say what kind of make-up station oops I’m a comment hog. well I too like doing my make-up standing up I do it in the bathroom it has a mirror over the sink and diagonally if you turn around i have a cuboard with a mirror on it and all my make up inside and little cubbies below too. I’d like to have a vanity, a big beautiful one like i wanted since i was a kid but even better was what my grandma had in her bathroom. She had his and her sinks with a giant mirror and then next to it the same exact thing but no sinks just counter space all dedicated to hair and make-up and everything. I loved going in there and imagining it was mine lol. Her toilet even had a stall!

Your room looks great, really colourful. I have to say that i’ve had a lot of compliments on the Cosmopop lipstick sent to me! Really adore the high pigmentation of the lipsticks, and the eyeshadows. If it were the future I’d want a hoover board tye of make up stand. I hate stile so doing my make up is a real chore. If i had a potable stand that could move aroudn teh room with me I’d be much happier.

Haha, you’re so adorable.
My house is small and a little cluttered, so I usually end up just using my bed or the bathroom counter to put on my makeup. Most of my makeup is in two separate makeup bags that I keep at the edge under my bed. It’s not really how I want it at all.
I’d love to have my own large vanity where I could have the regular large 3-way mirror as well as a close-up mirror on a stand on the vanity. And of course, the drawers would be organized by face, eyes, lips, and cheeks. I would also like to have a large enough vanity to have room on it for tissues and q-tips and such too.

I do my make-up standing up, too, and I always have. Currently I use the bathroom sink as my ‘dresser’…so, right now, there’s eye dust everywhere in there.
I do have a cabinet in my bedroom which has a neat fold-up mirror and a space for make-up, but the lighting in my bedroom isn’t good enough. I’m thinking of getting another light so that I can do my make-up there and save my sink from getting filthy every morning :)
Your make-up station is so neat, Doe. I don’t know how you do it. For one thing, I don’t have the time or energy to clean up every time I put make-up on. And secondly, my cat would knock all of that stuff over in an instant.

I always do my makeup standing up, typically in the bathroom. The lighting is best there and I have the most space to pull out all my cosmetics.
I’m moving in with my boyfriend in February, and it’s sort of annoying doing my makeup at his place. The lighting isn’t that great in the bedroom and the mirror and counter in the bathroom are so small. We are going to have to do something about getting more mirrors and more lighting. His (our) bedroom doesn’t have an over-head light though so it’s just lamps. Blah. The house has a 3 season closed-in porch. It’s basically a room attached to the house, but it isn’t heated. I think we need to look into putting a heater in the room and creating my own private boudoir. I’m the only one who ever uses the room anyway. It’s not going to happen, but I can dream.

I’ve been lurking on your site for about 6 months, and though I’ve ordered your cosmetics I’ve never posted (I’m not big on the sterility of internet communication).

You’re like me–we do our make-up standing up and our dressers act like vanities! I store like all my make-up in the first drawer. My mom balks in horror like she’s never seen makeup in a bedroom. I can’t stand doing my makeup in the bathroom or sitting down.
I literally have all sorts of tchotkes all over my room, most of which are fragile which is ironic as I’m the clumsiest person I’ve ever met. I have unicorns, roses, horses, porcelain, snowglobes, etc. It never ends. I have a unicorn statue that moves around in a circle and plays music at the same time. I’m such a girly girl at heart.

Very cute! Your room sort of reminds me of my room XD But mine has bottles instead of makeup things… mostly perfume bottles!
I do not usually do any makeup, but when I do I actually use the bathroom :) If I could make my dream vanity to do makeup, I would like to have an elegant, white Victorian style vanity with a mirror and little drawers and all my pretty things on it! I have a sort of random assortment of bottles, makeup, and decorations :) It feels like it would be fun to put on some makeup every day, though I personally would prefer not to ;D

I have an old antique vanity that I do my makeup at. It’s filled with tons of Lime Crime, MAC and Urban Decay makeup. When I lived by myself I just did my makeup in the bathroom…. but now since I live with my boyfriend in a loft with a pretty small bathroom, I take full advantage of my vanity…. which is a more glamorous experience than the bathroom… :)

Thanks for the tour of your makeup. It’s so lovely and pretty how you have it set up.
I currently do my makeup in my bathroom as it has the best light. My bathroom is decorated with pink towels, bath rug and candles and ornaments. I also have pretty flowers. It is getting alot hotter here now and I will need to add a fan to my bathroom to stop my face from dripping off.
One day I’d like to have a makeup dressing table so I can sit down and do my makeup.

What a fabulous set up you have there! I am super excited by your gorgeous mirror!
On another note I have just placed my first ever order for Limecrime makeup- I am SUPER EXCITED!! I went on a bit of a spending spree. I just have a quick makeup application question- when you say you recommend wetting the brush to apply your magic dusts for a more dramatic effect, what do you recommend using? Water? MAC Mist and Fix? Just wondering what you think will yeild the best results.

Love all the trinkets (and your blog btw). My husband just bought me an original 1920 art deco dressing table (discovered at a junk store) for our 1st anniversary, I adore it. When I took out the drawers there were lots of original 1920’s hats / scarves, silver horseshoes etc stuffed behind. An exciting find! I’m enjoying decorating it and filling the drawers with make up! ~lil_Gem~

Hi Doe,
My make-up space is in the end of my wardrobe! I have a full length mirror inside my door so I can stand right up close to it to do my make-up.
As I’ve been collecting, (and would like to eventually acquire all of your magic dusts), I decided today to print and laminate all of your swatches, plus a colour wheel! I’m going to place them on the wall next to my make-up as I’ve decided it’s going to be a great help with matching and using complimentary colours etc.
You are an inspiration.

When I had my own place I used the top of a bookshelf as my makeup table. I had an unframed mirror that I drew on with different things each month. On top of the white bookshelf I had black lace with bats on it (LOOVE bats!) and then my Urban Decay Makeup portfolio. Then I had my most used items in a semi-sheer makeup bag from Aveda and a special column of eyeliners. Liquid, tons of colored pencils, gel. They were all lined up from blacks to reds. Then my lipsticks sat about like little soldiers.
I miss it so much. Makeup tables are like a girl’s special place and I’d love to have a rococo revival VANITY with a great antique mirror that has tons of little dark spots and blemishes in the glass.

Not sure if I’m the only one who noticed, but I LOVE that the rails to the staircase beyond your room are painted in bright colors! the lime green and lavender complement each other surprisingly well. :)

I also use my dresser as my makeup station,(The dresser is boring and painted black, but has a big glittery stain in the middle. Yay!) and I like doing my makeup standing up. I suppose my dream makeup station would be some girly victorian vanity, in the center of a big gold and white bathroom. Haha.

After I saw this video I went to the mall and got some makeup from benefit cosmetics and they gave me a nice bag to hold my purchases and it had makeup products all over it. I use it as a purse.

I do my makeup/hair/general getting ready in my bedroom. I walk around in various stages of undress between the bedroom and bathroom (master bed/bath). I would love to have a vanity table and a super cute chair to do makeup at. I will have to get one after we buy a house.
your decor is adorable, I’m not a pig fan though ( My dad’s cousin got killed by his pigs) I have the cutest cow that my husband got me when we started dating and various other cows around the house.
I want to see the rest of your house for decorating inspiration!!!!
