Doll Parts, part 1

Category Makeup Tutorials

“I am doll parts, doll legs, doll eyes…” wailed Courtney Love in the early 90s. If you’re into that innocent, doll-like look, this tutorial will tell you how to achieve it.

INGREDIENTS

  • Silver-green and metallic purple eyeshadow
  • Turquoise eyeliner pencil
  • Any highlighter eyeshadow
  • Black liquid eyeliner
  • Black falsies
  • Black mascara
  • Rosy blush
  • Watermelon-pink lipstick (I mix my own out of several shades of pink and red)

Let’s start out with applying eyeshadow base (or foundation) onto the eyelids, followed by black mascara on upper and lower lashes. Second step is the eyeshadow. I always start out with the lighter shade which usually goes on the inner side of the eye. In this case, it’s the silver-green shadow, lately my favorite color. I also used it to draw AROUND the inner corner of the eye with a thin brush. Next step: Apply Metallic Purple in outer corners and crease and blend into the green, like shown in the second pic. Underline the eye with the same purple, blending in the green at the corners. Use highlighter shadow on the brow bone as usual.

I used a turquoise-blue pencil to line inside rims on my lower lids and a thin line on top of the upper lid. Glue in the false lashes as close to the natural lashline as possible. Now pick up that liquid black eyeliner and draw 7 to 8 fake lashes under one eye. See the effect? Now try to match it on the other one. :) Getting the direction down can be tricky at first, but you’ll get it eventually. ;)

You want the skin to look porcelain-perfect. Be liberal with foundation/concealer and apply it all over your face, including chin and forehead. And don’t get stingy with that translucent powder, either.

What else does a doll need? Good blush! I like to use bright pink eyeshadows for blush sometimes as I’m one of those people who never looks at the box. I use eyeshadow as blush, gel blush as lipstick, lipstick as eyeshadow!

You want a nice, defined shape for a doll mouth. Use a sharp pinkish-red pencil to create a curvy, yet natural shape to later fill in with color. And before you ask, I mix most of my lip color myself. Here I mixed red and hot pink lipsticks together, and topped it with clear lipgloss in the center of the bottom lip. Voila!
