FEMBOT: makeup tutorial
Category: Makeup Tutorials

Simple, yet striking look. Lately I’ve been inspired by futuristic glamour icons like Barbarella, Leeloo and Lady Gaga. They are sexy, kick ass, and their makeup is always superb! By the way, I went to Lady Gaga’s album launch party and it was incredible! Check out her video, Poker Face.

INGREDIENTS
available on limecrimemakeup.com
- Eyeshadows: Circus Girl, Mystique Blue (discontinued)
- Mascara, black liquid liner
- Lips: hot pink lip liner and lipstick
- Face: foundation, light pink blush, Sheer Magic Finishing Pixie Dust
Eyes
Mystique Blue is one of my ‘flat’ colors. It’s super-pigmented and has no shimmer whatsoever. An stunning combination with the high-shimmer Circus Girl yellow. I usually like to start out with the lighter colors and blend in the darker ones in later – but that’s just my preference. It works either way!
Prep eyes with eyeshadow base or foundation. Apply yellow in the center, inner corner and under the eye. Blue is applied everywhere in between. The trick here is not to overblend – you want each color to be distinct, blended only at the edge.
Apply black liquid liner on the waterline and on top lid. What I did here is called a ‘cat eye’ – when eyeliner is extended from top and bottom and slightly upwards, elongating the eye. Apply 2 coats of black mascara on top and bottom lashes.

Face
Tip: When buying foundation, look for color that matches your chin and neck, not your cheeks. Otherwise you’ll end up with one too dark and too pink. :)
Liquid foundation is awesome for emulating that unrealistically-smooth, robot-like skin. Moisturize your face and apply foundation evenly with a foam sponge. Use concealer under the eyes, around the nose, and on any dark spots. Set with a small amount of Sheer Magic Finishing Pixie Dust. Apply pale pink blush on cheeks.
Lips
I wanted my lips to look oversexed and robot-like, so I came up with this weird shape that’s really full on the bottom and top. Outline the lips with hot pink or nude liner, then fill in with hot pink lipstick. I used Revlon Wild Orchid which is not the best-smelling lipstick, but the color is one of my favorites. Voila!
Deerlings: who are your favorite futuristic babes?

Aeon Flux is an all time super future babe! So amazing, especially the costuming (both for the live action and the cartoon)
Also Leeloo from the fifth element the costumes were Gaultier and Milla Jovovich made Ukrainian totally hot, like Paulina Porizkova made Czech hot and sexy in the 80’s. Evidently former USSR woman can do anything!

I adore your makeup tutorials, they’ve inspired me to experiment with bolder, brighter colours instead of sticking with the “safe” greys and browns that I usually wear. :)

I don’t usually care for blue or yellow really but you can make anything look good! Right now the only favorite futuristic babe I can think of(due to tiredness) is the one in the book I am writing.

I have to agree with Aeon Flux and Leeloo comment above! But also, although not a style icon in my eyes, I love freaking Summer Glau on the new terminator show. Mostly I just love her. Also in Firefly/Serenity. And the 4400 <3 ok so I guess she’s a girlcrush of mine that I just realized. HAHAHA :D

In terms of their look, I liked Thandie Newton in The Chronicles of Riddick, and Daryl Hannah in Blade Runner.

“I wanted my lips to look oversexed and robot-like”
Awww, I’m not alone:-)
And how unhelpful can people be!
“Your description of horrible lipstick sounds like my kind of perfect lipstick. What brand is it?”
“No, it would not look good.”
“Maybe I have absolutely different taste. Could you tell me what brand is it?”
“No, it look just horrible!”
(etc)

Ooh, I love this look! I’m definitely bookmarking this for next Halloween ;) I’m still quite shy about wearing bright colors (don’t worry, I’m working on it!) but I might as well use this time to wear outrageous colors EVERY day before I get a job at the boring office.
Sadly, my lips are really full on top and bottom. If I’m not careful, I end up looking like a fembot whenever I wear pronounced lipcolors.

Your makeup is, as always, flawless, but what I really want to know is…where did you get that top? I love that color, and it’s hard to ind really intense blue clothes that aren’t hideous in every other respect. What I can see of the one you’re wearing is super-cute.

Ahh so excited! Not this friday, but next friday I should be all set to place an order for some of the make-up…I can’t wait to start doing some of your tutorials with your make-up, I have some low quality stuff that I’ve been playing with, but it clearly isn’t working as well as it could.

Doe, please do a post on applying the pixie dust! I just received mine, and I’m not sure I’m doing it properly (never used powder before) I end up in a cloud of white powder and inhale most of it, and I only used a small amount with a brush similar to the one you recommend. Please advise! > <

You have become one of my absolutely favorite people. I have always wanted to know how to create the awesome looks that you so often see in amazing photo shoots and such but have never even known where to start. I have been experimenting with brighter colors and mixing colors since I started reading these tutorials. I cannot wait until I can get my hands on some of your eyeshadows. Thank you so much for having this out there.

I have a question about liquid eyeliner…whenever I apply to my waterline it STINGS and makes my eyes water and all of my makeup ends up running down my face. What am I doing wrong?

The things you do with make-up never cease to amaze me. It also helps that you have the perfect face for it!

Am sold, when I have the money I am getting me the yellow for sure, it’s beautiful! How does it go if you’re putting it on top of other colours? I use it as a highlighter for most of my looks because too much makes me look ill but I have to keep layering the yellow I have to even get a hint of colour.

Evidently so ;)
♣ Vicki
Happy to spread more color into the world! :)
♣ Aether
You’re writing a superhero book?? I’m intrigued!!
♣ Helena
Hahaha!!! :D The best dialogue, ever!
♣ Kat K.
The top is by Alice Temperley for Target, which is exactly where I got it. :)
♣ Natalie
Yay! I’m so excited for you! Makeup always makes me feel gleeful :D
♣ Aurora
Here’s how to use the Pixie Dust: because it’s so potent, you only need a tiiiiny bit on your brush. Try not to breathe when you put it on. ;) Alternatively, you may put some on a wedge sponge and pat on skin. Works like a charm!
The trick is to use it sparingly; also, it sticks best to stickier surfaces – liquid foundation or simple moisturizer will do the trick.
♣ Miranda
It’s my pleasure!
♣ Carrie
The trick here is to apply it as far from the edge as possible. Draw the line against the lashes, keeping it away from the eyeball. :)
♣ Ali-Bell
Jetsons-themed club?! I’d be your first customer!
♣ Elizabeth
I didn’t go to a makeup school so I really can’t give you any recommendations. My only advice would be to just do it!
♣ Clara
I layer the yellow over other colors all the time. You can’t expect a lighter color to completely negate the darker, but it gives you the exact blend of two. :)

Cool cool, any yellow that does better than the one I use now is good. I’ve been showing off your things to friends too and they are all flawed by the colours. :) Hoping to get you some more customers. And loving my Pink Brush and the powder. You’re right, really makes your skin soft!

Hi, I also have a question about liquid liner…I try applying it to the waterline and try to keep my eyes open for a bit without blinking to allow it to dry, but it still sort of fades/slides off/looks patchy. I use Prestige liquid liners. I had originally stopped using liquid liners for the waterline because I used to have (must have been cheap) liner that actually cracked after it dried and am always also affraid the Prestige will dry and crack (though I haven’t left it on long enough to find out yet).
Should I try a new brand, is there something I can do different, or do I just need practice?
Thanks! :)

I wish that blue colour was more easily available – it’s the perfect shade & finish, at least for me.
LOVE LOVE LOVE this look so much though, especially how it matches your clothes & contrasts with you hair :]
Also, your eyes look extra nice, are they really like that or digitally enhanced?
