Glitterbug: makeup tutorial
Category: Makeup Tutorials
Hello deerlings!
Friday is here, and so is a new tutorial - just in time for your Friday night adventures! ;) I adore glitter bugs - or anything that glitters for that matter, tee hee! - and had a lot of fun coming up with this look. All colors used are from my upcoming line, Lime Crime Makeup, and will be available sooooonnnnnn! :)))

INGREDIENTS
- L.C. shadows: Ice Queen (white/turquoise sparkle), Nymph (white/gold), Empress (purple), Duchess (blue-green).
- Turquoise eyeliner pencil
- Lips: violet lipstick + L.C. Lip Sugar in Blue Crystal
- Blush: L.C. Marie Antoinette (pale pink)
- Black mascara
- Finishing powder: L.C. Sheer Magik Pixie Dust (wheee!)
Eyes
Prep your lids with a primer (I recommend Urban Decay, $16, or you can just use some liquid foundation) and applying bright purple eyeshadow on outer corners and under the eye. Blend Duchess (blue/green) gradually into the purple and into the crease. Apply a highlighter color like Ice Queen turquoise sparkle in inner corners and the brow bone. Blend all colors well. I put just a dab of Nymph white/gold sparkle shadow onto the very center of lids and inner corners.
I used bright turquoise pencil on the waterline. Two coats of black mascara on top and bottom lashes. Curl your lashes once the mascara’s dried. Fill in eyebrows as usual.
Tip: If you have lighter eyebrows, fill them in using a pencil or eyeshadow that’s about two tones darker than your hair.

Face
Moisturize your face and apply foundation & concealer where needed. I used an awesome pale pink blush from my own line, which will be available for sale soon. (Detailed tutorial on blush application can be found here.) Theeeen I set the whole thing with my new Sheer Magik Pixie Dust finishing powder.
Lips
I enlarged by lips about 10 million times here. Draw the desired shape with a hot pink lip pencil, then fill in with a pinkish-violet lipstick. To make it 3-dimensional, I used some L.C. Lip Sugar in Blue Crystal on the center of the mouth. Voila!

This is my favorite look from you so far! I LOVE the purple lips. Best thing ever. You could probably get away with that all the time.

The blending and choice of colors is brilliant for your skintone and hair. Just beautiful.

the makeup looks fabulous! but i actually have a slightly off-topic question…are you a natural redhead of do you dye your hair? i am a natural dark blonde and when i dye my hair red (like i have now) it fades like IMMEDIATELY. your hair always looks so vibrant i was just wondering if you had any product recommendations/tips. thanks! =)

Wow those colours are so vibrant - can’t wait to see the rest of your line, it looks fabulous. You talented wee bug!

doe deere:
can you please tell me what eyebrow pencil you are using? i am also a (newly) redhead and that color looks like it might work for me.
track44:
how are you taking care of our hair after coloring it? after a lot of trial and error i have found that washing my hair with Redken color extend (ironically in a red bottle) prevents fadeout the longest. i dye about every 6 -8 weeks but about 4 weeks in i use a red color depositing shampoo by wella to brighten things up. it’s great (would also be great for someone looking to try out going red before taking the plunge). but make sure you don’t use a white towell! also NEVER use really hot water on your hair, a clarifying shampoo, go in chlorine orexpose your hair to alot of sun. finally use the thickest, creamiest conditioner you can find. i use pantene or humectress.
hope this helps!

I wouldn’t say every day, but sometimes! I like purple a lot and try to wear it as much as I can. :)
♣ Track44
My natural hair color is strawberry blonde. I use Garnier dye in Bright Auburn Blonde - it has an excellent staying power! However, when I dye, I keep it on for about 40 minutes instead of the suggested 15. I never use shampoo at the first wash and only wash my hair slightly. I have a special red towel on which I sleep that night. :) I give my hair at least 2 day before washing it for the second time and resume normal routine after that. As you can see, it’s not just the dyeing but also the maintenance. Curiosity Killed The Cat gave excellent advice below!

Soooooon is under two weeks. ;) Thanks for your patience!! xo

This one is a great look!
Doe Deere, would you happen to still have your old tutorials up somewhere? I unfortunately never saved the link you posted somewhere on livejournal after you took down your old website :(

I was almost cynical when you said you were bringing a makeup line out - you know how it is when new make up lines come out, well, I’m always cynical of them.. But I have to say they look SO GREAT and I will definitely be buying some of your stuff! I know it will go fantastically for you so congratulations!

I know what you mean. There are new makeup lines being launched every day, but so few are worth exploring. I mean, how many more beiges and browns do women need?!?!

If you aren’t the cutest thing in the whole wide world I don’t know who is. You’re definitely a Groovy White Chick ;-).
Great eye look!

About how long does your lip color last? I would love to try something out like this but I am not big on carrying around a makeup bag with me when I go out. Any hints on staying power (with lips specifically)?

Gorgeous! I can’t wait to get some Lime Crime colours.

You have such insane creativity and makeup skills… you should definitely do something all 60s and Beatles-inspired, maybe even sort of face-painty and theatrical at some point, yes? It’d be fascinating to see what you might come up with.

Matte lipsticks generally stays on longer but is more drying. The glossier types give you a more youthful appearance but also come off easier. So it all depends on the type you buy. My lipstick is somewhere in between, I’d say.
If you want a high-lasting lipstick, I recommend applying foundation over your lips first. At the same time I must admit, I would never leave the house with a bright lipstick on and without a tube for touch-ups! ;)
