Tales of the Unicorn Queen

GET THE LOOK: Into the tropics

EYES
This look was inspired by the hot tropics and their colorful flora. The variety of hues, textures and shapes you find there is simply mind-blowing and, of course, highly inspirational. I started out by applying Lime Crime Eyeshadow Helper primer (available fall 2010) over Marie’s eyelids for vibrancy and crease-proof results. With a short-bristled brush, I packed on some Abracadabra on the top lid and blended it out. Marie doesn’t have a crease so I went in with some Mischief Managed to ‘fake’ it, blending it gently into the pink. I applied some more primer under the eye and dabbed Mischief Managed as close to the lashes as possible, then blended it out with a clean, fluffy brush for that smokey effect.

I brushed the brows in place but otherwise left them natural – something I find works best with intense eye makeup. Inspired by tiger lilies, I drew small, round dots under the brow and towards the bridge of her nose. I finished it off with black mascara and false lashes.

FACE
Marie has a medium-colored skin and I wanted her face to really glow. I prepped it with moisturizer and foundation, then dusted bronzer all over her forehead, nose, chin and cheeks. Dark rose blush was applied to apples of her cheeks.

LIPS
Great Pink Planet looks especially striking on darker-t0-medium skin tones so you can imagine how excited I was to use it on Marie! I applied it directly from the tube and corrected the shape with a lip brush. Voila!

Deerlings: would you wear this look?

  • This is beautiful!! I would imagine drawing the teeny dots takes practice to get them just so, but this finished effect is incredible. LOVE it <3

Using liquid liner makes applying dots very easy. Just lightly touch the end of the brush to your skin and you’re done! :)

  • Ooooh… this is STUNNING. Makes me think of the kind of butterflies that would hang out in the jungle around orchids, high up in the canopy. The dots really add to it.

I would wear this look, it’s gorgeous! I always know I can come here for makeup inspiration, thanks!

  • Rickey says:

Ooh, I love it! Make me want to try something like a tiger lily… with the orange and peaches and reds and whatsits and the spots like that… really gorgeous.
Now I’m REALLY missing my makeup… I’m on vacation for a couple weeks at the beach, which is really nice, but I decided that with only one carryon it wasn’t practical to bring any of it… :’(

The placing of the dots is really interesting.
I make dots around the outer corners of my eye or underneath sometimes, but I’ve never thought of putting them on the inside!
    Thanks for the idea :]

  • After this post, I need to add Primadonna to my wishlist (I already got my eyes on Elf…)

the look is amazing!!! she looks like a Nymph (in a good greek mythology way)!!!

  • Suzanne C. says:

Looks lovely. I hope it looks as good on my eyes. What eyeshadow do you suggest using in place of these colours are sold out and or we run out?

  • Rebecca says:

Thanks for using an Asian model! I don’t have a crease myself, and most make-up bloggers just throw out “Now, apply this color to the crease”, which pretty much makes it impossible for most Asians to get the right look unless they have an artificial crease (ew).

  • Jaci says:

    I love this look!

  • Kate says:

Stunning look – I really love the pink and green together!

  • Iman says:

I love everything about this look except for the way you applied the blush. The artificial hollow look is unflattering to her face shape. Otherwise, she looks great!
