GREEN LEAF: Makeup Tutorial

INGREDIENTS
- Eyes: Green and yellow eye paint, Lime Criminal & Circus Girl eyeshadows, black liquid liner, mascara, false lashes
- Face: Marie Antoinette blush, Sheer Magik Finishing Pixie Dust
- Lips: pink-red lipstick

I softened this otherwise geometric look by adding an organic element – young, green leaves that adorn the naked tree branches in the early spring served as an inspiration.
Eyes
Start out by dabbing some eyeshadow base (or foundation) onto your eyelids. Using a thin, pointed brush (like #6), draw a rectangular shape around the eyes with green eye paint. Note that it’s not a perfect rectangular – the edges curve upward towards the temple and are more rounded at the nose. Correct with q-tips until the desired shape is achieved. Fill in the entire shape with green eye paint with a medium brush (like #1), leave inner corners blank. While the paint is still wet, apply Lime Criminal all over the green area. Inner corners are done the same way, only with yellow paint and Circus Girl yellow eyeshadow.
Black liquid eyeliner is extended far outwards from the eye for a more elongated shape. Draw a thin black line on the waterline as well as upper lids, as close to the natural lashes as possible. This line will later serve as a guide for false lashes.
Face
Once we’re done with the bright colors, it’s time to apply foundation. Apply liquid foundation to the rest of the face, blending into your mouth and around the corners of your mouth. Set with Sheer Magik Finishing Pixie Dust using a large brush. I applied Marie Antoinette blush to the apples of my cheeks and light bronzer under the cheek bones. Wipe away excess blush with a cotton ball.
Lips
We are going to do a slightly different lip shape. Now that your lip line has become almost invisible due to foundation coverage, we can draw any lip shape we want! Using a hot pink lip pencil, I drew on a shape slightly exaggerating the corners on the upper lip and intentionally avoiding the corners. Lower lip is almost like a mirror reflection and, too, has a ‘heart’ curve. Once the desired shape is achieved and everything looks more or less even, fill in with a pinkish-red lipstick using a small lip brush. Blot with a tissue a few times to remove the excess lipstick, until it becomes matte. This effect is called a lip stain, when the color is still rich but it’s not so obvious that you’re wearing lipstick. To give your mouth depth, dab some hot pink lip gloss on the center of both lips and press them together. Voila!

Deerlings: what look should I do next? It’s best if you post references to the photos you find particularly inspiring!

Yay, a new tutorial! :)
Those books sound very interesting, looking forward to hear more about them.
As for what we’d like to see next… *I* would like to see your take on lolita makeup. Youthful, sweet, innocent, rosy cheeks, fake lashes, pouty lips.

I love your tutorials! I used to follow them on LimeCrime ;)
Looking stunning as ever! :)

Love it! I will most definitely purchase said book when it is published.

I’ve missed your tutorials so much!
Happy to see a new one :)
I’d love to see a peacock look, or anything inspired by peacock feathers!

I don’t think I could actually bring myself, to give you suggestions regarding anything remotely related to make up.
(Which is saying something, I have on occasion done quite a bit of dictating to MUAS. Only because it’s my job to make looks come together, of course. (When I’m modeling they can do pretty much anything.) I do know one way or another, I’m getting this look on some of my models in my next prom show.
Beautiful.

Love it!
The more make-up tutorials, the better! :D
I don’t know whether you’d be interested in that, but would it be possible to include some rouge advice in the next tutorial?
I always have trouble applying it, because I don’t really have an idea, where exactly it should be applied. I know there are different variations, but I haven’t found any tutorials on that and I’d be thankful for anything.
Just an idea!
Oh, and sorry to ask another question, but do you happen to know online shops that sell kryolan products? It’s a pain to get when you’re living in Germany…

Hmm… the above poster’s idea on Rouge… perhaps your interpretation on the infamous Moulin Rouge. Inspired by the film, by the actual place, or Toulouse Lautrec, whatever area you find inspiring!
It is very nice to see the tutorials again.

Ahh, sorry, with “rouge” I meant blush! I thought both terms would work in English.
August 28th, 2008 at 12:41 pm
Love it! I really like the cat-eyed liner at the end, against the bright shadow – most people would think that’s too much but you so pull it off!
I would love a tutorial on a goth/80s glam look, it’s sad seeing the same thing over and over again from that type of makeup – I want to see something original!
And asterisque, rouge is still a correct term for blush! Also try “shrinkle” on eBay for Kryolan, she gives the best deals and is an awesome seller, I’ve bought 20+ things from her.

awesome! can’t wait to try this one out! and i’m most def buying your makeup tutorial book!
August 28th, 2008 at 4:15 pm
The idea of your book sounds great! In your book, will you explain everything in paragraphs like this or have more step-by-step pictures? I think, for me anyways, makeup tutorials are easier to follow if I can see what it should look like after each step.

I hear green leaves… i think Yatta.
The tutorial is darling, though.
And i’m happy to see you’re doing them again.

I love your makeup! I used to go to lime crime all the time; plus your hair is awesome. I want to see a vintage-esque 20’s look.

i love and have always looked towards your make-up tutorials as inspiration!!! i guess i would suggest a (somewhat wearable!) Marie Antoinette make-up tutorial. i think it’s beautiful make-up, looking at the movie and time era, but when applied today can look cakey and cracked instead of naturally baroque! i’d love to see how you’d put your own spin on it as well ;)

Hello! Im glad to see the makeup tutorials again :) I was wondering if maybe you have done in the past or might do in the future something on nails? I would love to see recommendations on good polishes and maybe some fancy nail work. I personally like cheap regular nail polish over the kind that is supposed to dry fast. Or I also like OPI. I dont like how the cheap stuff chips off so fast though.
I second Gias suggestion also.

♣ Wilda
Love the Lolita make-up idea!
♣ Dinah
I already have a make-up called Peacock. :) Look in the Make-Up category.
♣ Arterisque
I’ll see what I can do. ;)
♣ Shvetya
Спасибо, дарлинг!
♣ Robin
I never have a look planned out before I start, which can make my process pretty unpredictable and chaotic. Sometimes I’ll start out doing one thing, then change it completely in the end. I don’t do video tutorials for that reason.
Another reason is because I find taking pictures awfully distracting! It’s like making a painting and dropping the brush to take a picture every few minutes. I’d much rather stay focused. So, to answer your question, probably not.
♣ Morgueana
I don’t think I ever did anything particularly gothic, but all the tuts should be accessible through the Make-Up Tutorials caterogy.
♣ Victoria
Mmm, 20s look! Love it!
♣ Gia
Hi girl! Long time no talk! So good to see you here. :))) Of course I will do the Marie Antoinette look, what a lovely idea!
♣ Alexandria
I’m like you in that regard, I rarely buy fancy polishes. My favorite brand is Nail Hardener, or whatever is cheapest! I will post a review of a new brand I found though very soon. :)

Finally a new tutorial! I can wait to try this out for myself, see what I can do with it.
I also agree with a whole Moulin Rouge inspired look, something just crazy and sexy haha.
Also, I think maybe doing something for halloween again in a few months would be awesome!
And something I’ve been wanting to try was kind of fairy inspired, but more like that woodsy fairy, or a nymph, or whatever it’s called, but something that just is like an overload of airy glitters and just something really pale and light and soft, it would be really pretty I think if you tried something like that.

Oh I am really looking forward to the book, your make up was how I first ‘discovered’ you. :D Love that new look, now of course you have given me the urge to go on a make up spree!
I love this kinda look, being a pinkhead myself but I have a completely block on how to do it. If you had any ideas would be great. (Not sure who this is I saved from LJ because I loved her look, wish I had saved her name now to give credit)
