GREEN LEAF: Makeup Tutorial

INGREDIENTS

I softened this otherwise geometric look by adding an organic element – young, green leaves that adorn the naked tree branches in the early spring served as an inspiration.

Eyes

Start out by dabbing some eyeshadow base (or foundation) onto your eyelids. Using a thin, pointed brush (like #6), draw a rectangular shape around the eyes with green eye paint. Note that it’s not a perfect rectangular – the edges curve upward towards the temple and are more rounded at the nose. Correct with q-tips until the desired shape is achieved. Fill in the entire shape with green eye paint with a medium brush (like #1), leave inner corners blank. While the paint is still wet, apply Lime Criminal all over the green area. Inner corners are done the same way, only with yellow paint and Circus Girl yellow eyeshadow.

Black liquid eyeliner is extended far outwards from the eye for a more elongated shape. Draw a thin black line on the waterline as well as upper lids, as close to the natural lashes as possible. This line will later serve as a guide for false lashes.

Face

Once we’re done with the bright colors, it’s time to apply foundation. Apply liquid foundation to the rest of the face, blending into your mouth and around the corners of your mouth. Set with Sheer Magik Finishing Pixie Dust using a large brush. I applied Marie Antoinette blush to the apples of my cheeks and light bronzer under the cheek bones. Wipe away excess blush with a cotton ball.

Lips

We are going to do a slightly different lip shape. Now that your lip line has become almost invisible due to foundation coverage, we can draw any lip shape we want! Using a hot pink lip pencil, I drew on a shape slightly exaggerating the corners on the upper lip and intentionally avoiding the corners. Lower lip is almost like a mirror reflection and, too, has a ‘heart’ curve. Once the desired shape is achieved and everything looks more or less even, fill in with a pinkish-red lipstick using a small lip brush. Blot with a tissue a few times to remove the excess lipstick, until it becomes matte. This effect is called a lip stain, when the color is still rich but it’s not so obvious that you’re wearing lipstick. To give your mouth depth, dab some hot pink lip gloss on the center of both lips and press them together. Voila!

Deerlings: what look should I do next? It’s best if you post references to the photos you find particularly inspiring!
