Tales of the Unicorn Queen

Meet Mela: an adventurous makeup artist who does makeup for Betsey Johnson in Washington, DC. Although normally an Urban Decay kinda girl, Mela got a hold of my lipsticks and eyeshadows and fell in love. She wore this look to my Wacky Tea Party and was kind enough to share a tutorial!

Recently, I’ve been obsessed with all things violet. I don’t know what happened, as I’m usually a pink devotee, but I just woke up one day and purple was my new pink! The Wacky Tea Party at Doe Deere’s was the perfect opportunity for me to show off my love of lilac! Although the party wasn’t technically Valentine’s themed, it was the day before the big day and we were baking cupcakes so I decided I was going to valentine myself up!

Level: Advanced

EYES

I started my look by priming all over my eye with Urban Decay Primer Potion. Next I used Sugar Color Stick Cream Shadow (like a crayon!) in Grape Soda all over my lid. I followed up with Heavenly Naturals shadow in Princess, a light lavender with golden flecks, from my tear duct to the center of my lid, wetting my brush with one spritz of MAC Fix + and layering the pigment to achieve opacity. I attached a piece of scotch tape from the bottom corner of my eye to my eyebrow to create a barrier for my pigment for a razor-sharp look. I then wet my flat MAC 239 brush with Fix + and dipped it into Lime Crime magic dust in Empress, foiling it on to the outer half of my eye. I softly blended Empress into the cream shadow/lavender section with a MAC 217 blending brush. Then I traced a line along my crease using Urban Decay Ecstasy shadow on a MAC 219 pencil brush. I finished the shadow by applying Lime Crime magic dust in Nymph with the 217 as a highlight.

I lined my top lashes with Stila All Day Waterproof Liquid Liner, which has an extremely sharp felt tip. I kept the line as close to my lash line as possible. I applied glitter strip lashes to my top lash line over the line I had created. When applying false lashes, make sure to let the glue become tacky before adhering them to your eye – they bond much better that way! I then drew a wing with the Stila liner from the corner of my eye upwards.

I lined my lower lashline with Urban Decay 24/7 pencil in Zero and carried the liquid liner wing down to my lower lashline as well. I lightly coated the false lashes with Dior Show Iconic mascara. Your final result should look something like this.

FACE

I concealed under my eye and blended alongside the wing with Urban Decay 24/7 Concealer in CIA. I topped the cream concealer with Benefit Powderflage to ensure that my liner would not stray. I applied Tarte in a Perfect Whirled – a shimmery bubblegum pink blush – on my cheeks.

My look was bold and beautiful but not complete – I needed more glitter!

I glued a pink glitter foam heart to my cheekbone using eyelash adhesive – eyelash glue is your best friend in a look like this! I then applied individual lavender jewels under my right lash line. The jewels were from a Forever 21 nail kit and I picked up each jewel with tweezers and placed a single dot of glue on each before placing it under my eye. Since it was a wacky tea party, I didn’t want to be too symmetrical and I randomly glued pink hearts (also from a nail art kit) using the same technique all around and under my left eye.

LIPS

I painted my lips with Lime Crime opaque lipstick in Centrifucshia and topped with MAC Dazzleglass Crème in Crème Allure.
