Tales of the Unicorn Queen

I have a fruit cat!

Category Unicorn Queen

Peach Eater

I remember the first time I discovered my Persian liked fruit. I was sitting on the couch, reading a magazine & enjoying a juicy peach when I suddenly felt a soft tap on my leg. It was Puffy – 4-month-old ball of fluff standing of her back feet, with copper eyes fixated on the fruit in my hand. Cats don’t eat fruit!, I snorted and took another bite out of the peach. The paw tapped again – with claws this time. The beast clearly wanted peach – or else!

Cherry Eater

You cave in once, they own you for life, right? Ever since the peach incident, the beast would materialize at the smell of fruit out of nowhere and sit patiently by the table – waiting for me to bite off a chunk and put it in her mouth! She is lucky she is cute – besides, how many people can actually say their dog/cat likes the same food as them?

Plum Eater

Today, Puffy’s known likes include:

  • blueberries
  • grapes
  • figs
  • strawberries
  • apricots
  • cherries
  • plums
  • and, of course, peaches.

Blueberry eater

I used to think she was in it for the sweetness but apparently, cats can’t taste sweet due to the lack of a receptor on their tongues. So the origins of my cat’s fruit eating habits are a mystery – maybe she just digs the taste!

Deerlings: do your pets like to eat anything unusual? Bonus if you have a picture! :))

What an adorable cat! She looks great on the pictures. My cats only eat meat. Every evening the three of them stand around me, watching me eat, hoping for some meat “to fall on the floor”.

It’s so cool how you have horses! I ♥ them. :)

My cat Lucy is such a spoiled kitty. She gets really antsy if her bowl is below half full. By ansty, I mean she meows and tried to trip me until I fill her bowl back up.

Also, a tip for owners of cats who get sick often after they eat: It could be because they’re eating too fast. Put a textbook under their bowl to elevate it, and it should keep your kitty from eating too fast. It worked for Lucy. =]

My kitty Delilah loves cottage cheese and yogurt. When ever I eat it I always save a little for her. My other kitty, baby, is stranger, he LOVES cucumber and nori! If we leave any out he will steal it.

  • Holly says:

My dog will eat most veggies (that he CAN eat, because there are some veggies dogs aren’t supposed to eat, like onions) and fruits (except for grapes and raisins; those are bad for dogs). If I’ll be eating something citrusy like an orange, he’ll act like “Oh, it smells SO GOOD!” but if I give him a bite, he usually just takes it and leaves it on the floor.

*giggle* I too have a persian cat who will eat anything! He once stole cake from the kitchen counter :)

    Cat owners:
Please do NOT feed your cats grapes, raisins, chocolate, or raspberries, I have read that it is very dangerous and could be fatal.

  • Mara says:

My ragdoll, Belliscimo, will beg for anything you have. Except, when you offer it to him, he simply sniffs it and turns away. He’s a wierd cat (not to mention not the brightest either), but he’s very cute!

Grapes cause kidney failure Doe, even a lick or 2 is bad! My cat died of a combination of kidney failure and contibuting severe arthritis (ofcourse you can’t die of arthritis but we put her to sleep because she couldn’t even stand up)at 21. We were lucky to have her so long but it’s not something you want to have to go through. I reccomend getting on the ASPCA’s E-mailing list. they send out articles on poisonous things to pets several times a year.

i used to have a cat that would steal glue and eat it.
    no lie.
it didn’t matter if it was stick or liquid or whatever.
it never hurt her or anything, luckily.
but, boy did she love it!!

  • Me says:

I had a kitty who loved cantaloupe. Only cantaloupe though, no other fruits. But he would howl and cry and beg for it until I gave him it. =)

  • [...] to the rule and find it especially endearing when my cats behave like little persons (remember the Fruit Cat?). Do your pets act like humans [...]

We had a boarder staying with us when I was young and he noticed that my little pup was overly interested in his cucumber slices. After that, we tried a variety of veggies, and found she really likes the green veggies best!

  • Stacey says:

My cat is pretty weird, she loves bacchoi out of the Chinese food when i order it. My dog loves green beans and pineapple, but then again my tiny dog is strange, he likes to get into the shower with me and roll around in the water by my feet lol.

Photo of my dog eating pineapple out of my fingers ^_^

  • Katie says:

That’s adorable! I love the pictures. =) I used to have a dog that liked to eat cheese and peanut butter (not at the same time), and I thought that was weird, but I’ve heard others say their dogs like that as well.
I haven’t seen my cat eat anything too interesting yet, I’ll keep you updated. =)

  • Emily says:

Grapes are not good for cats at all! They can lead to digestive issues. You may want to consult your vet before continuing to feed her those “treats” (even if it does make for cute pictures, your kitties health is WAY more important!!)

  • IrĂ©n says:

Haha. My dog always ate aubergines and cauliflower. First I said “that’s nonsense; dogs don’t eat vegetables”. I gave him a bit of baba ghanoush so he could sniff it and see it’s not good, but, to my surprise, he loved it!

  • Ari says:

    Fluffy is adorable!

I have two very strange kittens.

Neliel, my Norwegian Forest Cat kitten, will eat strawberries, peaches, pears, blueberries, caramel, any flavor of ice cream, mushrooms, raw spaghetti noodles, banana bread, zucchini bread, potatoes of all kinds (including sweet potatoes), peas, green beans, carrots, and corn.

Motor, whom was a rescue kitten, wurst, mashed potatoes, cole slaw, apples, baked beans, egg rolls, brussels sprouts, melons, anything vanilla-flavored, oranges, cherries, mushrooms, lasagna- basically anything that I cook.

Cat treat-wise, they definitely have their favorites. Motor will only eat Whiska’s creamy dairy temptations, while Neliel likes Pounce’s Three Cheese, Whiska’s Chicken and Cheese, Pounce’s Catnip-flavored treats, and Friskies’ lobster and shrimp treats.

When it comes to cat food, they both love Friskies’ Select Chicken, Milk, and Fish flavored dry food and refuse any kind of canned food.

What a cute site! I ran into it looking for the safety of pineapple tops for my cat Peso~! I love the make up! Congrates on your success!! Its a great girl site! It’s so great to be a girl! Thank you!!!

  • My hairless cat Lola loves vegetables. If we have corn on the cob and leave it unattended, she’ll be on the table chewing away.
Once my mum make some broccoli and left it in a strainer in the sink.
While she was eating she said “Hm. this isn’t very nice broccoli…it’s all stalks! ” and then we walk into the kitchen to find Lola eating the heads off all the broccoli.

She also likes peas and corn.

My dogs and OTHER cat really like yogurt.

    cherries are poison for cats!!

My dog, Lucky, goes NUTS over cheesecake. If I have it, he’ll stare at it until I give him a bite. He’s not fond of how it sticks to the roof of his mouth though. So after the first bite, he’ll stare at the rest of my cheesecake, look away, look back, then he’ll want a bite again. X) He can’t resist the cheesecake!

He’s also a fool for vanilla icecream. He loves green beans as much as I do, and tonight I found out he likkes cooked broccoli.
    X)

He will also eat ANY bread product.

  • Linds says:

Wow. Do not feed fruit to your cats. Cats have a very simple digestive system which requires the comlex proteins from meats. They cannot digest fruit properly. It’s extremely dangerous to their health to let them eat fruit. It can cause kidney and liver failure, as well as diabetes and other very serious problems.

It seems a lot of people haven’t realised that even if their pets want fruit or some other food that they aren’t supposed to have, it is cruel to give it to them. My dog loves the smell of chocolate, and he’d be very happy if I gave him some, but that would make me a pretty cruel owner, wouldn’t it?
