Women carry all things imaginable in their purses: lipstick, tweezers, compacts, condoms! Today, I decided to examine the contents of my bag and rate their necessity on the scale of 1 to 10 – 10 being most useful, and 1 being the least.

Another picture of my bag

{1} Cell phone + headphones: 9

Cell phones are like back-up systems for our brain. :) My new cell also functions as an MP3 player (no more bulky iPod!) and is a major room-saver. I like to listen to music when I’m on the train, so it’s a must-have when I leave the house. I’ve even used its dark screen as a make-shift mirror once!

{2} Fingerless gloves: 6

‘Karl Lagerfeld’ style gloves by Bebe, a gift from my friend Ally. :) They keep my hands warm while allowing me to fumble with my wallet, buttons, and belts.

{3} Wallet: 10

I love my black/pink Isaac Mizrahi wallet, it’s probably the best and most functional wallet I’ve ever had. It allows me to carry all my cards, cash & even has a change pocket (I have a weird fascination with coins, I’m probably part leprechaun or something, haha).

{4} Keys: 10

To my house, car, and my mom’s apartment. If I lose them, I’ll be in a lot of trouble!

{5} Pixie Dust powder from my makeup line: 8

I always have it on me and use it every time I go out. Excellent de-shiner.

{6} Brush to apply the powder: 5

I love being able to go into the girls room and ‘powder my nose’ properly. But carrying around a brush is probably not the most practical thing to do; it’s something you keep at home on your makeup table. I suppose I could apply the powder with my finger? Or get a compact? Until I resolve that issue, the brush stays. :)

{7} Mini mirror: 11!!!

I love love love this mirror and use it all the time! When I’m running late and have to do my makeup on the train, nothing is more useful than my little friend here. :)

{8} Wedding band: 4

Generally I don’t wear rings – they get caught on clothes, slip upside down, require too much attention. My wedding band, I only put on when I ‘need’ it – to show that I’m not interested, basically. :)

{9} Mini vibrator: 5

Haha, you never know when you’re gonna need one! ;) I got this in a gift bag at the Playgirl party; it’s shaped like a lipstick.

{10} Lip gloss in a dramatic shade: 7

I like to carry one around just in case I need to glam up my look on the go. Red or hot pink are my usual choices.

{11} Business cards: 8

Yes, the Doe Deere Blogazine business cards! I give them out to everyone I meet and to random pretty girls on the street. ;) Seeing how this has pretty much become my business, I like to have a few on my hands.

{12} Hand sanitizer: a solid, germ-free 5

I’m not a mysophobe (fear of germs) but do like to keep my hands clean – especially in the fall/winter. I skated on the flu shots the past couple years and never got sick just by washing my hands.

{13} Rose-flavored breath mints: 1

How cool does that sound, rose-flavored breath mints? I love these , but have a suspicion I eat them just as candy. ;) Perhaps a sugar-free gum would be a better idea. Necessity: 1, but yum!

{14} Lip balm: 100!!!

I am addicted – addicted! – to chapstick and cannot survive without it. I must have a tube on me at all times and freak out if I forget it. There were times I was late to appointments because I’d forgotten my chapstick and had to go to a pharmacy to buy it. I’ve been known to wake up in the middle of night just to put some on. :) Yes, pretty crazy.

{15} Pink Parker pen: 8

Parker pens are historical. I was ecstatic when I found one in pink! I use it to jot down info and write love notes to beautiful strangers in the subway. :)

{16} Journal: 6

My amazing Jazz Age journal is full of eccentric ideas, poetry and secrets, scribbled down in glitter ink. I feel sad when an idea hits me and I can’t write it down in my journal, but if it does happen I can always use my cell.
