Lady Gaga ‘Paparazzi’ [2009]
If anyone had any doubts Gaga is here to stay, here’s your proof. This girl is a creative volcano, constantly spewing new ideas, each better than the last, mixing pop, goth, glam & everything in between. At only 23, she is already an icon. The new Madonna she is not. Undoubtedly, both are made of the same stuff and had Madonna been born in our times, she’d be doing something similar to Gaga. And yet, in addition to a penchant for pushing the sexual envelope, Gaga is overall more creative and kooky.
She is not going anywhere – mark my words, album after album this girl will be surprising us with crazy new fashions, songs & inventions. As long as we have her around, there is hope for show business.

Love this so much. I’m usually more a rock- girl but Gaga hits the spot for me like not many other pop artists. I think it is the raw ambition that is reminiscent of Madonna. Crazy outfits as usual too! x

Although I admit her songs are contagious with a wicked beat, and its interesting that she’s so different, I think it’s now come to the point where she just wants to do anthing outrageous and weird. Not wear pants outside? Come on, what kind of an example is this setting on little girls?!! I prefer the Gwen Stefani kinda individual anyday.
(and no, im not some middle aged parent somewhere, im a teenager myself)

I love her fashion. I love that she’s doing something different compared to all the other pop stars.
I feel like most of her music is very average. I wish every song on her album was as good as Poker face.

How can you say thatvoice is the result of no talent? And do not say she’s been edited to hell, because if you go on her youtube there are candid videos of her singing that are just as good. So let’s try not being jealous, ok?

I think the video is very stylistically impressive, but it’s unfortunate that she chose to fetishize both catastrophic medical conditions (the wheelchair, neck brace, and canes) and murder. I’d prefer that she not make hanging or falls or suffocation look glamorous, and no it doesn’t make it better that she “gets back at him” at the end. Real victims of murder don’t get that.

This and ‘Just Dance’ were my favourite songs off The Fame, which, admittedly, I was overall disappointed with. She has a lovely voice and an interesting fashion shtick, but none of those other songs were all that great I think. :/

I love Lady GaGa. I don’t think she goes too far at all. I mean, when I was a teen, there weren’t any gals with male backup dancers. I think she’s in charge and you get the feeling that she’s the creative brains behind her image.

As for fashion, honestly have you seen pictures from her 3 years ago? Running around in pussycat dollesque skank garb. She’s an amalgamation of so many different artists. She’s a product. Her music isn’t really any different from anything on the billboards chart: same beats, autotune, etc..

Love love the song (as most songs on the album). The video definitely had a shocking middle (Gaga coming back all broken, but not shaken!). Personally, I thought the video was too “model mayhem”, but the story was great. Gaga is a good actress!! I hope that was her voice!

Bleh, Lady GaGa is overrated. I really don’t see the appeal. She’s got a nice voice, but it’s not THAT good. If she didn’t dress the way she does nobody would pay her any attention. That’s really all she’s got going for her.

In response to Jemza in regard to Lady Gaga not setting a good example for little girls:
One of the things I love about Gaga is that, in my opinion, she isn’t marketing herself to little kids. Her music and videos are provocative and she is not afraid to be sexually charged. She is aiming at a more adult audience. So who cares what sort of an example she sets for little girls? There are numerous artists out there who are terrible role models for children. She isn’t the worst, nor is she the first; she certainly will not be the last. It isn’t her job to guide children. It’s the job of the child’s guardian.
As an aspiring sex therapist and sex educator, one of the things I hate about American society is that being provocative and sexy is taboo. One of the things I love about Lady Gaga is that she doesn’t seem to care.
I thought the video was a little bit disturbing at times, but I still like it. I think it was really well done and interesting.

Right on Alison! I think it’s fairly obvious Lady G isn’t trying to be a childs role model. How boring would music be if everyone was Miley Cyrus :|
I love her. Totally love her tunes (only heard the ones she’s released don’t have the album yet) think she’s really unique and I admire her for having the balls to do things a bit differently and more importantly to do things HER way.
Maybe most importantly – unlike nearly every other popstar nowadays – she actually wrote all the songs on her album!! Thats something.

For my opinion Lady Gaga is the only person in show business now that has really creative brain. And I also like that she is a good actress and looks great in her provocative videous. I’m sure that she’ll become a part of pop history. Many people say that if you take from her all the clothes etc. she will be nothing. but hey! personality is built out of many many things even clothes!
so all I can say…LOVE THIS VIDEO, LOVE HER BOLDNESS AND LOVE HER SONGS.

I loved the fame, I probably listen to the each song on there multiple times a day! and I agree, its not her job to be a rolemodel for children, her job is too make the music she likes and do the things she likes and she’s doing a great job of that I think. how anyone can say she isnt talented I dont know, you can not like her but must atleast recognize her talent, and she has a fucking great voice

I’m not a huge fan of pop music ususally, but I have to say that Lady Gaga is growing on me.
This video was unbelievable, in a good way!
I mean, how long has it been since there was a strong concept video that didn’t seem contrived? 10…15 years?
And on the “being sexy is taboo” thing…I’m of the school that Americans are wayyyy too uptight sexually. Is it really that wrong to admit we like something so carnal? Absolutely not. We’re human.

I think some of you are missing the point of this video… It’s meant to be very ironic – a social commentary of sorts about the twisted bargain celebrities often make with fame itself. I don’t think it was glamorizing or fetishizing death or suicide any more than it already is in movies, music, and art in our society. In fact, I think what Gaga is doing is actually blowing up these themes into larger proportions so we can see it better – and more bluntly!
I really loved the video, and I totally get the haters – no one can be loved by every one. Even Gaga herself knows and embraces this. She understands that no one, no celebrity can achieve true fame and legacy without understanding and embracing the downsides and pit-falls that WILL eventually come. So her downfall (the paparazzi) is her blessing (all the press). In the video, they make her even more popular and publicly recognized! Thus at the end of the video, as she poses for her mugshot with the name-board marked as “Paparazzi,” it is because she IS the paparazzi – without them, she would not have fame.

Other than that, I adored this music video. She’s definitely not any Madonna though, she has a category of her own. Lets just hope she doesn’t embarrass herself with the way she carrys on.

Though she annoys me occasionally, I really do like Lady Gaga — she’s quite talented, she can actually sing (which is, sadly, apparently not necessary to actually become a star these days), and last but not least, she’s a Sacred Heart girl like me! (Paris Hilton, too, but we try not to mention that…) :P

Not a big fan of GaGa, then again, when you teach teenagers and listen to them talk about her, sing her songs, and attempt at dressing like her it starts to get a bit overrated. I know she’s not marketing towards children, but children are watching sadly.
If I didn’t hear her all the time at school, I’d probably like her a bit more.

i don’t know. i just don’t BUY it. the part where she’s wearing all white and navy blue – it’s hard to take serious because she looks so ridiculous. i know where all these theatrics come from, but come on. that was the 70s, she’s not doing anything new or different. it’s been done, just not with pop music today (i.e. david bowie, klaus nomi, grace jones). i have to admit though, my dancing shoes don’t discriminate – a good beat is a good beat.

I don’t see her having a career as long as Madonna’s that is for sure. I can’t decide if she is talented or not….I am on the fence. She just seems weird with some good songs.

I disagree that she isn’t being marketed to kids. Radio stations play Lady Gaga on all the teen/top 40 radio stations and her videos alongside every other ‘cleaner’ type music. I think, along with other ‘adult’ (some veer on soft porn) music/videos and imagery, major record labels throw everything out there and pay big money to ‘commercialize’. I think that it’s a giant cop-out to say that her music is not being marketed to kids so that she (and record companies) don’t have to take responsibility. As I type this, there’s a ton of nice little girls right now singing ‘I wanna take a ride on your disco stick’ and ‘and we’re all getting hosed tonight’ lyrics from her songs that are marketed to adults but yet fail to be kept away from children’s ears who are still the ones who buy the most music and go to concerts for most pop music. Anyone in pop music is a ‘product’. BTW, I love pop music and it’s all I listen to. Just lets keep it real. It is what it is.
