That video was beautiful and really well done but it seemed really impersonal compared to so many other tutorials out there.

Point taken. ;) Is there any other format you would prefer to see?

I kind of know what she means. I think the video looks professional but I’d LOVE to see a video of you actually sitting down and talking us through it like a lot of make-up videos do, and maybe do make-up on yourself? I think it’d be fun!

Yeah, I’d much prefer you sitting down doing your own makeup and talking about it as you do. Showing upclose how you do your makeup and your personal opinions. It seems more personal and achievable then.

And this is why I love you guys. :) Great feedback!!
Will photo skills be taken into consideration? Despite being a pretty good photographer, I suck at capturing my own make-up!
Also, the same colors have to be used, right?

As long as it’s a clear picture where we can see your makeup. :) You can approximate colors.
Honey, i´m from Brazil. Can I participate???
Doe Deere Reply:

Of course! We <3 Brazil. :D
I personally like this format. I think that if it was more ‘personal’ it would remind me too much of those young girls on youtube with a makeup channel, not a succesful makeup artist and creator of a makeup line.

Till 11:30 pm on October 27.
Does it have to be the exact same colors and effect? Or can we substitute colors and embellish it a little?

Colors can be approximations, and you’re definitely welcome to embellish! Contest ends at 11:30pm on October 27th.
What a fun contests! I’m really looking forward too see the entries. I wish I had enough make-up to participate… I like the video, it looked professional. The background and bokeh looked very LimeCrime, glittery. :)

I looove bokeh! My favorite thing in the world when it comes to photography. :)
Beautiful tutorial! And useful too, especially the lips :3
I’m rather new to your site and due to busyness I can’t join the contest – tho it really interests me. Maybe next time ^^
Great look! I felt like it was a little impersonal though. I wasnt sure if it was you doing the makeup…and the subtitles were hard to read. :-/ I like the choice of music though, but I also found it distracting.
Doe Deere Reply:

Yep, it was me doing the makeup.
I have some of the same question clarifications. I haven’t yet had the spare money to order any of your makeup- so can I use what I have/approximate colors? Deep purple for black, etc?
Also, deadline is another valid question. :D
Doe Deere Reply:

You can approximate the colors with whatever you have. Contest ends the night of Oct 27th.
Awesome vid! High quality — looks very professional!
So I gotta ask…what nail polish are you wearing and where did you get your bow rings? Too cute!
Doe Deere Reply:
October 19, 2010 at 10:06 pm
The nail polish I mixed myself by adding Lime Criminal magic dust to another greenish polish. Rings came from Forever 21.
I have been looking for a good modeling job for a long time, do you know where I could find a good one? I’m not looking for pay (just saying)

But I’m not eligible to apply (gosh i feel stupid) I’m not old enough =\
I thought you could apply Limecrime lipstick with just a swipe? ;)
LOVE the lips though~
Doe Deere Reply:

You can, but brush gives you more precision (which you need doing it on a model). On me, I usually go direct though. :)
Great tutorial, Doe!
I WANT THAT MODEL’S HAIR.
Why does mine have to be so fine and flat? T_T
Doe Deere Reply:
October 19, 2010 at 10:08 pm
Emily’s hair is naturally fine and straight as well. Kristin did an awesome job curling and then teasing it into a poof!
Mmm… Love the lips, they’re so gorgeous. :) I actually have all these colors, after I just got my shipment last week. :D I’ll have to try this out.
So, as was brought up above, I was wondering on when entries had to be in by? Also, is it just about getting the makeup down as near as exact as this is, or what exactly? Photo composition? Pretty much, how will the winner(s?) be selected?
Doe Deere Reply:
October 19, 2010 at 10:09 pm
It doesn’t have to be exact, approximation and embellishment is welcomed. Winner will be selected by the Wow Factor. :)

Okie dokies. Thank you~~
Dang, this is cool but I was totally hoping to see the blue hair today!
I’m going to try and remember to try this out… hopefully I can come up with something good :)
SO ENTERING!
Love that pic btw, how it has that rainbow sheen to it.
Makes me wanna dabble with glitter when I do my entry. :3 Oh I so know what I am doing Thursday night, Hot coco, Dorian Gray movie, and playing with make up! <3

But was fun none the less!~ <3
Yeah what is the lipgloss you used that made the rainbow sheen?

I think it’s just how it reflected under the lights… Pretty cool, huh?
Regarding the video, I think as a video – tutorial aspect aside – it’s really good and you’ve done a fantastic job!
As a tutorial, though, it was a little frustrating to have the camera constantly moving around, and the shots of the lights in the background were unnecessary, I think. And as someone else said, the text was a little hard to read.
I didn’t really have a problem with it being impersonal, though, although I do prefer tutorials where someone talks you through it.
But great video, anyway.

Thanks Yoshi! We’ll have it into account for future videos. :)
Is it just me or does the picture of the lips not match what the lips on the video looked like? Were they Photoshopped or was the gloss just reflecting the colours from the background? In the video, they looked simply black and red…
Doe Deere Reply:
October 21, 2010 at 10:15 am
Good eye! :) The lips in the picture are actually of a different model, whom I did a few months ago practicing the same look. I think I may have applied a different gloss. xo
I agree with the comments on the video style. I like the music but the text is hard to read. I think it would be nice to have music in the background but also that you talk through the tutorial and explain what you’re doing.
As for whether you do it on yourself or other people – I don’t think it really matters, just as long as you talk people through what you’re doing. I also thought it was frustrating to have the camera move around so much…some more close up shots from the front would have been nice, especially for the details.
Also, I know this has been asked already, but I was confused by the wording of your answer. Can you use whatever colors you want, or when you say “approximation” do you mean colors as close to the ones you used? (sorry, I’ve never seen that word used before. =/)
Doe Deere Reply:
October 21, 2010 at 10:16 am
It has to be a recognizable version – so yes, colors as close to the original as possible.
Thanks for your feedback on the video, it is much appreciated!
