Tales of the Unicorn Queen

Download this wallpaper here. :D

Photography: Grenouille | Headband: The Velvet Village

Photoshoot was inspired by a winning entry from our vignette-writing contest for No She Didn’t lipstick.

INGREDIENTS

Eyes
Prep the lids with eyeshadow primer. With a short-bristled brush, pat Duchess (shimmery green-blue) thickly onto the ball and blending slightly outwards & into the crease. Apply Treasure Chest (bright gold) on inner corners, under the brow and blend out towards the temple. Go over with Duchess to blend the edges slightly. Apply eyeshadow primer to lower lids – be sure to spread it evenly and apply Enchant a smaller brush onto lower lid, focusing on outer corners. Then, with the same brush, sweep some Mermaid on top.

Fill in waterline with black or dark gray pencil, put on mascara. Apply black eyeliner close to the lashes. Stick on false lashes (mine have foil in them, I got them at a Halloween store) and then re-apply black liner along the lash line. Fill in eyebrows in natural brown color (or black if you’re a brunette) giving them a nice arch.

Face
Moisturize skin. Apply Foundation Primer underneath foundation for extra-smooth results. Use concealer for spots and under eyes if needed. Sweep pink blush on the apples of cheeks. Set with translucent powder like Finishing Dust.

I love this sequin star and been wearing it a lot lately. Things like this add an oomph! to any look and can be attached with regular eyelash glue!

Lips
Lips were the easiest part. Lime Crime lipsticks are extremely pigmented so you only need to apply one layer to get tube color – even if you’re darker and it’s sky blue! I didn’t even bother with lip liner here because these lippies don’t really feather or bleed. Put a glob of clear gloss for shine and voila – you’re a Candyfuturistic Goddess ready to reach out and kiss the sky!

Deerlings: could you pull this off? Where would you wear it to? Come on, I know you’re brave!! :)

This is AMAZING! :O I just wish I was brave enough to pull it of…I just wish I had your flawless skin Xenia…how do you do it?? I can get it using makeup but I am always worried of looking like I am wearing too much :S xxxxx

  • Rhia says:

Xenia this is so, so gorgeous! I will definately be trying this look out!

In response to the previous comment – that makes me wonder – Doe – can your primer be used alone just as a corrector? I don’t like the heaviness of foundation

  • Ruby says:

Breathtaking! I was hoping that you would do some new tutorials using the lipsticks! *glee*

  • Patricia says:

omg this looks SO LOVELY!!!! great job!

  • tofupoo says:

i just cant wait for the lipsticks seriously im going nuts! and ive missed your tutorials :D aaaahhhhh good morning good morning!!

  • Cindy says:

I would wear this while running through the snow. That pretty blue screams gorgeous winter to me, in the brightest way possible. If only there were snow here. Perhaps I will have to acquire the color and wear it anyway, pretending it is cold enough to turn my lips blue.

  • Katherine says:

    Hey Doe(:
I certainly think i could pull this lippie off! I think it would look interesting with my bright oranage hair :L
I can’t wait to order my lipstick!

  • Kat V says:

Incredible!!!! nice job on the wall paper!

  • Kat A says:

WOW. stunning post. this looks incredible.

  • Suzanne C. says:

The make-up I’d wear anywhere and everywhere. I’d even wear it to school, sometimes i show up with no make-up and tied back bed-head and the next day I might have such elaborate make-up nobody can do their work because they can’t stop staring at me. As for With the bow? To the street fair or anywhere on 4th ave (vintage shops, thrift stores, tattoo parlors, hippie gypsie, and a trolly)or to a party.

Love the cool new wallpaper before you started making these i’d just tile images of your tutorials (as inspiration) but this is so much better. thanks for the tutorial too i was aching for one.

BTW EVERYONE: Limecrime has the BEST customer service! <3

  • liz says:

    love, love LOVE it!

  • Rachael says:

I’m with Suzanne on this one; I’d wear Lime Crime make up anywhere!

Doe, you probably answered this before but I’ll ask again (apologies) what bran of concealer do you use (if any)?

  • Jen says:

Oh, yeah, I’d totally wear this whether I can really pull it off or not…I mean, I just can’t resist that lipstick!!! I’d wear it to the grocery store and smile big at everyone who looked at me strange. ;) I live in a part of the city where everyone dresses funky, and hardly anything is new and unseen before…but I have never seen this shade of lipstick on someone before!

  • Salina says:

I definitely love the color of that lipstick? Could I pull it off. …Maybe. I’d like to try wearing it with a cat eye and silver glitter.

  • Alison says:

Yay! A tutorial! (f you can’t tell, I love your tutorials. ;D Also, I love giant bows.

You make No She Didn’t look SO wearable. It’s lovely. I can’t wait until October 1st!

I’m with Suzanne C.–I do much the same thing. One day I will roll out of bed for class and go with no makeup, and the next I am sporting fabulously bright makeup. I completely derailed a research staff meeting one day because of my Lime Crime makeup. lol :D

  • Cat says:

It looks gorgeous on you, but I’m afraid I don’t think I could pull it off. I’ve got hazel eyes and light brown hair – I think it would overpower me.

If I thought I could make it work, I’d wear it to my home town’s biannual sci-fi convention.

    ♥ Maria
Perfect skin is tricky. Part of it is genetics, part makeup and part lighting. The latter plays a huge role – if you look at the picture, my face is pointed right towards the light source, ‘erasing’ all flaws. Makeup comes in second in importance. To avoid the cakey look, use concealer only where necessary and cover the rest with light foundation using a sponge or a brush.

    ♥ Rhia
Primer is designed to make your skin extra-smooth for even coverage, but not for covering up imperfections. I’m afraid foundation and/or concealer and necessary for that.

    ♥ Katherine
Bright orange hair + blue lipstick = killer!!!

    ♥ Suzanne
I like to change my wallpaper up every month or so, so I figured why not offer the same opportunity to others. :)

And hey, no problem! Glad I could help.

    ♥ Rachael
I like Paula Dorf Magic Stick concealer.

    ♥ Jen
I can just imagine: Jen walks into a supermarket and the entire place falls silent. Everyonen stares for a minute… then resumes doing whatever they were doing. Haha!

  • Simone says:

Wow, that’s actually a headband? That’s the biggest bow I’ve ever seen! It really goes with your make-up, too…was that just a coincidence, or was one inspired by the other? XD

I need to get myself a pair of foil lashes, too. They’re so cute.

    x

  • Jen says:

When I wear it to the grocery store, I will have to take a pic while inside. lol

    Is it Oct. 1st YEEEETTTT????!!!!

  • Catherine says:

I want that headband so badly !! I woulnt wear the lipstick so much, since I tend to have REALLY bad reaction to lip products :S But the eyes and bow, I would anyday ^.^

  • Amber says:

I’d totally wear it! I actually wanna try striping my lips with No She Didn’t and Airborne Unicorn. I have a purple skirt with blue and fuchsia dragons on it and I think those two lipsticks would really rock that outfit!

I really like how the yellow adds some liveliness to the icy blue hues in the photoshoot. Lovely combination!

  • Amber says:

PS: Are you going to be selling the lipsticks at ShanaLogic as well?

  • Karen says:

This would be amazing for my Norwegian holidays, as someone earlier said, wear it while walking in the snow.

  • Natalie says:

This look is gorgeous! I don’t think I’m brave enough for blue lipstick but your eyes look simply stunning. I think I’ll try something similar for homecoming!

  • kiki says:

sure i could, and lol, i’d wear it to school.

  • Jessica says:

Sometimes I wish I liked wearing make-up. This is an amazing look.
I believe this has convinced me to purchase your make-up for my models! I can imagine at least ten different image-concepts for those colors alone!
    Thank you for the inspiration!

  • Tera says:

I love it! I would wear this out anytime I was going out downtown shopping and I decided to wear a blue-themed outfit. I like to spice things up a bit. ;D

  • Noelle says:

I would def wear this! Especialy to the club Zaphods (in Ottawa) Its an indie/ rock / alt club. Industrial strength night Is prob when i would wear it. Looks awsome and cant wait to get the lippy in Oct. ALMOST THERE!! Woot!

  • dana says:

    I’m getting this!

  • Bre says:

I won’t lie — I fully intend on buying your black, orange, and blue lipsticks, and wearing them to school. I love being an arts major.

  • Corinne says:

I’d wear it… anytime when I’m not wearing my trademark bright orange scarf for a little oomph of color!

  • Katabulous says:

Honestly, I think you are the only person on earth who can pull off this look. :[

  • hannah says:

I applied for Team Candyfuture and I could have sworn I got all the questions right, but I didn’t get in, and it makes me sad and feels like I’m missing out :(

  • Noelle says:

Ahhh, it’s killing me seeing all of these tutorials with colors we can’t buy yet. :( Why can’t they hurry up and be released??

    beautiful, though.

  • Nefabit says:

I don’t think I would ever wear a look like this in public. However, I would love to use this lipstick for stage! I’m thinking it would be lovely for a mermaid ensemble.

  • Rosie says:

I would wear this to a) school spirit day, since our colours are blue and yellow, or b) for my every day, small town life.

  • Irish says:

I LOVE this color and will be buying it once it comes out! I live downtown, so there are plenty of places I would wear it!

  • Midori says:

What a beautiful (!!) make-up!! It looks like it comes straight out of a dream!!! ^_______^

(And I really can’t wait to get my hands on your lipsticks!!! *.*)

  • Maria says:

Thank you for your advice! :) I can’t wait till the lipsticks are released…I can’t WAIT to rock some of those colours :D

  • anna says:

this is gorgeous, i really wish i had the confidence to pull this off. if i was to try this, however, it wouldn’t look right :(

  • psycho says:

I’d so wear it! I have golden blond hair and grey eyes, i think i’d be a killer combination ! Don’t you think ? =D

  • Rocket Pop says:

I can’t wait for the new line either! Doe, you should keep posting tutorials for the new lippies! C:

ps psycho: yes! I agree it sounds super

  • Variety says:

I’d do it, blue and yellow is one of my favorite color combos. That I’d probably wear anywhere from the park where me’n Spouse Creature go to juggle to a Regina Spektor concert. The sky’s the limit!

  • Pinksky86 (Jackie) says:

Oh Doe….that picture is sooooooo beautiful!! I love your make-up and it’s the perfect compliment to the story written about your new lipstick, “No She Didn’t.” I love that story!! I don’t know if I could pull this off, my lips don’t look very good in bright colors. I wish they did, cuz I’m like a bright color fanatic. You can pull off anything though and make it glorious. And I just have to say, I LOVE that bow you are wearing!! =)

  • Chyna says:

Oh, the places I would wear this. I wish my family hadn’t moved, so I could still have blue&silver school colors. But, I could easily sprinkle some Treasure Chest over a clear gloss, and make goldddd lips. :D

But, I plan on buying Airborne Unicorn and No She Didn’t, and wearing them everywhere I’m allowed. :)

  • Maria G says:

I really like this! blue is my fave color!! Ive neved had a blue lipstick before! I really wanna try it, thanks for this great idea! kisses!

  • Rickey says:

The question is not where would I wear this, but where would I not wear this? I just bought some gorgey porgey white patent stripper shoes and a glittery pink yellow and blue tutu which I am wearing together to school tomorrow… too bad I will not have No She Didn’t to accompany me on the fantastic journey. Oh, yeah– to school. Haha. I actually did end up wearing a moustache to school last thursday, and everyone loved it! Again Doe, you’re amazing!
    Love, Rickey

  • I am so in love with your lipsticks!! I can’t wait for them!!!!!!!! i want each color! =)

  • Andrea says:

I am anxiously awaiting for the arrival of that beautiful blue lipstick….I’m going to copy this look and head to Mall of America with my boyfriend….he LUVS it when I wear anything blue! When I showed him all these new lipsticks, the blue was his favorite!:)

  • Andrea says:

I just wore my “No She Didn’t” for the 1st time this Saturday. The guys at the tattoo shop loved it….and i also made a few stops at other places as well….Perkins, grocery store, and a few other shops. It felt great to wear such a vibrant color! I felt very “gleeful!”
