I’m in Vegas! :D

We’ve arrived and checked in at our hotel yesterday afternoon. MGM Grand is ginormous – rumor has it, it’s got its own zip code! We haven’t ventured outside since our arrival because MGM has every imaginable entertainment right under its own roof: theaters, restaurants, casinos, shopping, spas, fast-food joints, and, of course, hundreds & hundreds of slot machines.

I didn’t get a chance to play yet  – an army of brightly-lit gambling stations got me a little intimidated – but I had to grab a picture right away. ;)

A few words about MGM Grand. This hotel is the most luxurious, decadent creation of human architecture I have ever seen. Standing amongst its white & gold walls, surrounded by white marble and regal pattern, is like having an entire chocolate bundt cake to yourself: almost too decadent! To put it over the top, a golden lion of elephantine proportions presides in the center of the lobby – on a pedestal under a golden dome (!!).

Despite the city of Las Vegas being nestled in the middle of a desert, indoors, flowers are everywhere. There are armfuls of red roses on every corner at the front desk, goliath white lilies by the elevator, exotic birds-of-paradise by the entrance to the spa… We had dinner at an exquisite Chinese restaurant and I remember being hit by an intoxicating aroma of lilies and wild orchids at once. We were then shown to our table which had a tasteful arrangement of red marbles and an orchid in a rounded vase. Being a huge flower enthusiast, I’ve been in absolute horticultural heaven for 20 hours and counting!

To kill some time before dinner, we went to a TV show screening. The point is to get random people to watch an episode of a new show and get feedback. The whole thing takes about an hour. We watched Rules of Engagement and used a little device with a like/dislike knob, twisting it according to our tastes. Upon exit, we were gifted a Peaks and Valleys book by Spencer Johnson along with some discount coupons to places like Häagen-Dazs and NY Pretzel. What a pleasant surprise!

My first day in Vegas, I wore a casual Ruby Rox dress over a long-sleeved shirt, black hole-y tights and my beetle boots.  I didn’t get a chance to do my hair or anything, but nothing that some red lip gloss couldn’t fix! :)
