Lime Crime @ SpaceNK training video

Category Beauty

Spent the entire day today making this video. It’s a “training” video for the staff of SpaceNK, who will be carrying Lime Crime lipsticks starting this April, to familiarize them with the brand. I figured I’d share it with you since so much work went into it, plus I want you to know what exactly to expect or not to expect from these lipsticks, so there are no surprises!

By the way, I will be doing personal appearances & free makeup consultations for my fans & customers in NY, London, LA and San Francisco. I will announce the dates real soon!

Tomorrow I’m waking up at 6 in the morning to get ready for my first ever in-store staff training, which starts at 8:30 am (it’s’ basically the same thing as the video, only in person). I’m so nervous – wish me luck!!! I’m hoping to meet all the sales girls, and the space designer who is converting all stores into Lime Crime-y madness for the launch! After that, breakfast with Poppy (yay!) – who, by the way, will be doing an introductory speech for one of my NY appearances. Alright, finishing my cup of red tea and off to bed!

Awesome video, you sound so professional. Im glad that i am part of this mildstone in your career, thanks for making it possible for us! Good luck

I don’t know if I sound professional… seeing how I’m deathly afraid of video!!! Every time I see that red light flashing, I get paralyzed inside and can’t remember what it was I was supposed to be saying, haha! I think I’m getting a little better though, with practice. :)

  • ange says:

I hope this isn’t creepy, but your voice is so soothing! I could listen to it forever.

I love the way you think about colour. I’ve definitely fallen into a pattern of black and grey over the winter, but I am so ready to bust out the brights for spring. You’re right, I feel so much more alive and energetic in something like a hot pink dress than I do in my black hoodie.

Also, I wish you could make all the training videos for my job. I might actually learn something! ;)

  • stacey says:

oh I love it. you mentioned applying it with a lipliner, so which lipliners do you recommend to apply the more “unusual” colors such as Airborne Unicorn and No She didnt?

    Doe Deere Reply:

Clear liners! LipstickQueen.com have an Invisible Liner I’m pretty sure.

  • Remi says:

Nice video, Deere! I think that was a great intro to the brand and got across a lot of nice points :) Plus your makeup looks awesome, of course.

OOOOH man I am excited for the San Francisco visit!!!

  • Brianna says:

I’m very excited to see your products in stores! Perhaps I will see you in LA! :)

    Doe Deere Reply:

    That would be awesome! :D

  • Kristy says:

This is awesome Doe! I really enjoyed watching it. I’m so excited for you launching your products in brick and mortar stores. Don’t forget us little people on you way to the top. haha!

  • Lily says:

The excessive cuts at the beginning are very unprofessional. You could have spent more time and practiced a bit more to do it all in one take. The video is fine, but if I am going to put my name on something it has to be perfect.

    Tosha Reply:

The cuts bothered me as well, same with the sound being different in the interview moments and in the moments when there were just picture slides.

    Doe Deere Reply:

Oh, it wasn’t meant to be a professional video. It’s just something for the staff who can’t make it to my trainings (they are scattered all across the US and UK). Thanks for the input though, one day I’ll have a pro video made where I don’t make such a fool of myself. ;)

  • Jazmine says:

I’ll see you in San Francisco for sure!!! wouldnt miss it! Where will you be??

  • Ally says:

The video is cool but your delivery is very dull and expressionless.

    Doe Deere Reply:

Sorry for the robotic delivery, I’m scarily video-phobic!

  • Lanika says:

first of all, good choice on the rooibos tea, yummy, super good for you and not caffeinated, and also, good luck! You’ll do amazingly well, who better to talk about your company and products than you, sweetheart!

  • marlies says:

Good luck! You can do this. The video is very nice.

    marlies Reply:

btw did you say it stays on for five hours?? When I use Lime Crime lipstick it says on all day, and I mean all day. When I apply it in the morning I have to take it off with remover at night cause its still there.
    I <3 lime crime lipstick!

    Doe Deere Reply:

It’s cause of the stain dyes – they really stick to your lips. :)

  • clare says:

Just wondering – which MAC lipliner did you use in the video? (seems a bit odd and unprofessional to be using such a recognizable brand in a promotional video for your own line..?)

    Chelsquid Reply:

You can’t even see the MAC logo though. I didn’t know it was from MAC and neither will a lot of other people.

Nice video Doe Deere but you need to smile more!
    =)

    clare Reply:

maybe. but here’s the thing – if you like bright makeup, and you like limecrime, there’s probably a big chance you’re already into MAC. the thick red stripe at the bottom & matching font are a deadgiveaway. at least use a no-name brand so the focus is squarely on your own lipstick line.

just sayin… if it was me…

    Lily Reply:

I think the emphasis is on quality. You need to use MAC lipliner or else the lipsticks would bleed like crazy.

    Doe Deere Reply:

There is nothing wrong with using one brand in conjunction with another. :) The lipliner is MAC, Magenta.

  • You make me want to wear bright make-up right away! And that’s me, who rarely wears anything brighter than olive green :D

Keep up the great work and stay colourful!

  • Lani says:

    Previous poster ^
But they don’t bleed like crazy – I use them all the time and don’t own any lipliner at all, I apply straight from the tube on a casual day or with a lip brush when I want to be more precise. So that is sending mixed messages :s

    Doe Deere Reply:

You are correct, if applied properly they don’t bleed. By the same extent, ANY lipstick, if slathered on excessively and not blotted, will bleed. It’s all about how experienced you are with lipstick wearing in general.

  • Tamara says:

Okay. This was damn boring. I stopped the video in less than 1 minute because it made me yawn. Sorry but the intro is really unprofessional.

  • Åsa says:

So funny you should say “Who would want a blue lipstick?” I just wore my No She Didn’t to school today! Still wearing it now while I’m typing :)

  • Lola says:

    iiih I love it! :D
At first you seem a little stiff but at the end you let loose and you sparkle! :)

Will the lipsticks be sold over the SpaceNK website aswell?

    Doe Deere Reply:

    Haha, thanks, I try!

  • dana says:

yay! i’m excited for the lipstciks…i live in nyc

    Doe Deere Reply:

That’s awesome, you should come say hello at one of the two meet & greets! There will be cupcakes. ;)

  • kagitsune says:

The video was adorable and informative. I’m really glad you gave the mini tutorial on how to put on the lippy… It truly goes on in one swoosh! :D Congrats on the new distributors… your hard work is truly paying off. ^o^

    Doe Deere Reply:

Thanks hon, I really hope it does well. I’m itching to release more amazing products!

  • Sunny says:

I’ve been doubtful of your line because of the whole eyeshadow thing/repackaging thing but you do look adorable in the video, and I think with some professional editing and a few little adjustments this video has the potential to be great! I don’t know if you’re planning to re-tape and what not, but if so I’d take the things from these comments to fix it up a bit, like better video cuts, more professional transactions, and I don’t know if it’s your accent or if you’re just being professional but I feel like you could be more animated!! Good job with the video and the upcoming launch though!

  • Rachael says:

I loved that you threw the trainer! I think I would kill for those sequined and bright blue pumps! I wish I could find those at Wet Seal, but sadly I missed them :(

  • I wish ALL designers were are genuine and fantastic!!! Good luck tomorrow and my sister and I are SO excited for your NY appearances!!! :D

    Becca Rainbow Reply:

Whoopsie and by that I meant were SO, not are..

    Doe Deere Reply:

I’m excited too!! Can’t wait to do my first consultation, I love meeting people!

  • Laura says:

I just got my packet of limecrime lipsticks yesterday and I’m loving them! I was surprised to see the packet in only four days after my order since it was shipped internationally.

    Lani Reply:

I got mine in less than a week all the way from New York to New Zealand too, I was very impressed! Sometimes it takes longer to get something shipped from within NZ!

    Doe Deere Reply:

Happy to hear that! Maybe it’s the bright blue box. ;)

  • Story says:

For someone who promotes bright color and a fun personality, you don’t seem to have one in the video.

    Doe Deere Reply:

Wow, you guys are really hammering me today, aren’t you? :)

I have a fear of video and it’s really difficult for me to speak into the camera. But I try.

  • Christy says:

I think its a beautiful video!

Kudos to you! ps I sooo love my Countessa Fluorescent lipstick, its the first lipstick Ive ever worn and I love it!

    Doe Deere Reply:

It’s so funny, we get a lot of girls who say it’s their first lipstick. Warms my heart. :D

  • lina says:

I just wrote you to your flickr account with a proposal about making this video using motion graphics.

glad to see you are doing so well with everything! you deserve every bit of your success!!

ps. I hope you find my proposal interesting as well I would love to hear what’s your imput about it

    Doe Deere Reply:

    Replied!

  • Christina Rose says:

    Wow Xenia,

I am so excited for you and I am so so so so proud of you.
I have been following your blog since I came about it back in ’04ish when you went by “Limey/Lime Crime” and had a blue streak, and used Kryolan makeup. I have almost all of your tutorials from your old website in a folder!

You are truly an inspiration and have been a huge impact on me :). I cannot wait until your make up makes it down to stores here in Florida.

    Fondly,

    Christina Rose

    Doe Deere Reply:

    You’re too sweet, Christina. :)

  • Nina says:

Ack! Adorably bright shirt! That is a perfect color on you… I’m not near any SpaceNK, but it’s going to be fun watching the spread of limecrime! Any LimeCrime around the Seattle area yet???

BTW, I keep thinking of your blog because we just came out with darling UNICORN bottles at the company I work out. Fuchsia, metalic gold, unicorns, AND reusable? I feel like that’s something worth being “gleeful” about ;)!

& cute video, too – it really fits with the LimeCrime lifestyle!

  • mela says:

i think you looked and sounded great! and as you said, its just a training video for employees its not like its going out into the whole world – i get so nervous in front of a camera too!

i think i just wanted to hear your voice though haha

    good luck tomorrow!! XOXO

  • Katie says:

Great vidoe! =) I wish you the best of luck tomorrow!

  • K says:

Your video is great, especially, having put this together all on your own. I love the images you used and the music. You look beautiful and you sound very professional. I’m so, so happy for you. You’ve come so far.

  • Vanessa says:

I think the video is totally awesome Doe. As a television broadcasting student, I can say with authority that it’s always really hard to be natural in front of the camera & the only way you can get better is to keep doing it! Big kudos to you for having the confidence to be on screen – I think you did a fabulous job! :D

  • Annemarie says:

Do a tutorial for your make-up!!! It’s soooo pretty!

  • Ashley says:

Waaaah. I really can’t wait for you to put your stuff into stores that come down to Miami. I wanna see the displaaaay!

  • ❤✿ Coolness, if you ever come to Philly let me know and i’ll be there! YAY!

  • I liked how you throw the converse, LOL

  • clarity says:

I liked the video very professional and fun. I have to say that how does your makeup out on darker skin tones. I was always going to change my wardrobe to less bright more dark/earth tones but I think I like color more. I wont be changing anytime soon lol but a few grown up pieces might do the trick for me.

  • Katy says:

I LOVE those sneakers! what brand are they?

  • Rosie says:

You have such an amazing voice! I absolutely love this video, I think I am going to refer everyone I know who has trouble with colours/lipstick to it.

  • Nikki says:

I was disappointed to see a number of comments here that were especially nasty towards Doe. Very immature. Doe is a grown woman who has been in this business a while and I’m sure she has professional people who can give her the kind of constructive criticism she needs regarding her video introduction to her brand. I for one enjoyed the homegrown aspect. I liked that it wasn’t slick, that it was more DIY since Lime Crime has been born from that sphere of influence. I found Doe completely charming and I LOVED her accent. To those nasty people out there – this is fun make-up, no need to carp.

  • AM says:

yeah What brand are those aqua sneakers? too cute!
