Now closed!

According to the poll, we have quite a number of talented people here. Here’s your chance to prove yourself: a Winter Challenge! I want to see your depictions of WINTER, using the tools of your trade. In other words: if you’re a writer, write something. If you are a fine artist, make a painting, etc! Make-up looks, costumes, sculptures, videos, songs, poems – anything winter-themed will be considered!
My favorite submission will receive 10 Lime Crime shadows, including several exclusive colors that are not on the website! Submit full entries or links to your entries here.
Last day of submission: December 15th; winner to be announced the next day. Note: submissions by email will not be counted.
Now show me what you’ve got, Deerlings! :)

Ok, I’m going to try embedding my entry into my comment. Apologies if it doesn’t work!
My passion is photography, so my entry is, naturally, a photo. I took this one at the loch just next to my house. These two swans live here all year round, and last Tuesday the loch had partly frozen and they were standing on the ice with their reflections in the water.
Anyway, hope you like it and think it’s worthy of the prize!

Hello, this is my submission. I have done 3 Christmas inspired eyeshadow looks (one pose for each eye). I don’t know if that’s too many, if it is, I’m sorry. You can choose just one if you prefer.

Hello Doe! I am a poet. Words are my lovers. Here is a piece entitled “Winter”:
It’s winter. Bright grey skies fill my eyes and chill frost air burns in my chest. My breath is made of snow and the garden inside of me is sleeping. Flowers shrink back into pods, trees drop their fruit and shed their leaves, and vines curl up, dry up, covered in thorns. My body is protected by a shield of thorns. Nothing can hurt my fragile fruit heart, still beating and juicy from the summer…waiting for spring…

does this have to be something created especially for this competition or can it be something we’ve made earlier? I am a fashion design student and this was my major project this semester… it’s a winter/snow themed swimsuit & cover-up! kind of appropriate I guess, since it’s actually summer here!

Ooh how fun! I love winter, especially when it begins to turn to spring, which most people find yucky but I find beautiful in a sad sort of way.
I’d like to participate, but I’m right in the middle of exams so if it’s okay to submit something you’ve already done, you can check out this poem:
http://truepenny.deviantart.com/art/Snegurochka-79155025
I love all forms of art, but I consider myself primarily a writer (when I’m not being the overworked and brain dead student I usually am). This is more about the transition from winter to spring, but still wintery. It’s based on a Russian fairy tale, so I thought you might enjoy it. :)

Hi! What a coincidence that I had done a sort of winter poem for my 8th grade talent show this year! I might as well post it, seeing as my cousin had sent me the link to check out this site!
here it is:
Icy Eyes
By Erica (that’s me!)
Not only does it call for me, and beckon sweet it does.
To touch the tip of my nose, alert me through the bone.
Whispers like my Mother’s, the crackle and the crisp-breathe in.
Slick upon my feet, I stand before it, heaven on Earth-breathe out.
Sharp and quick, consuming whole.
Hard to take it in, you’d never get me out.
Spread my arms side to side to see what this fuss is about.
A master piece in training.
Says the child in me.
And another whisper picks up speed, we’re blown all away.
From greeting the melting men, dressed with buttons, hats and scarves.
To a stinging, bubbling heat from a fragile tea cup.
Watching the blizzard lullaby me.
It will never be enough.

I’ve made my sisters grab their jackets and a hat, ran to get my sister’s camera, and took a bunch of quick referance photoes.
I don’t know how I managed to get a skeatch done within half an hour! It normally takes me at least 1 hour, usually 2 to do it right!
I’m shadding it right now, I really hope I get get it done soon, I’m so excited lol.

“Winter”
Warming blankets, fuzzy socks
Wind rustling through the eaves
Snow taps lightly against the windowpanes
With the last of the fallen leaves
Puffy jackets, woolly mittens
Heaters turned up on high
Silver rings around the moon
Stars glisten in the sky
Hot chocolate, apple cider
Christmas lights and decorations
Friends and neighbors come together
In holiday jubilation
Everything I see is white
On this beautiful winter night
Just a quick submission…I live in Florida, so this is my take on what I think winter is!

Winter is something very particulous for me… every flowers, trees,… are dying to rebirth in april. It’s very exciting and “strange” because everything we can see seems to have something more than usually!! everything is quiet and cold!! The houses are covered with snow, chimneys are smoking, and all my breath takes shape in the air!!! I love it…
So i chose this photography because it make me recall a lot of memories… I was lonely at home, and it was only the second time i saw my city under the snow!!! I live in south of France and it’s very rare to see snow here! So i just wanted to immortalized this moment forever…

Well, here’s something, anyway. These are ornaments I made for our CHristmas tree a few years ago. We were out of town and only had a little pre-lit tree and no ornaments, so I used wine corks and dyed coffee filters to make little angels. They’re tied together with embroidery thread.

Hey Doe! I have been a big fan of your blog for a while, and when I saw this contest I had to write an entry! I took a look at some of the other entries, and there’s some pretty stiff competition… A lot of beautiful and interesting work! But hey, you can’t win if you don’t enter, right? =).
Anyways, I posted my short story on my myspace blog. The link is here.
The short story is under the blog entry titled Lime Crime Winter Contest! Hope you enjoy! Good luck to everyone who entered! =).

OMG! I really really really hope to win!!! I can’t wait to try some LIME CRIME MAKEUP!
Thanks for having this contest…for a long time i tried to figure out a look i cud do makeup for and i came up with this one the day I saw the contest!
I made this just for the Lime Crime Winter Challenge…so, this is what winter means to me….lots of snow, hence the white eyeshadow on the lid…green for the christmas tree, hence the teal, the shimmery teal lining the eye for the lights, and the red sparkly lips for the traditional jamaican sorrel drink and because Christmas time is a time for LOVE!!!
Happy holidays!

Others have mentioned that their entries are things they’ve done in the past. I didn’t read in your challenge anything against it, so hopefully you’re accepting them. :)
I’ve got two entries:
I like to get creative and put together seasonal altars from time to time. Last December I put together my second ever Yule altar, and I loved it:
http://enchantedmasquerade.deviantart.com/art/Yule-Altar-2007-78835937
Here is the centerpiece I hand made for it:
http://enchantedmasquerade.deviantart.com/art/Yule-Altar-2007-Centerpiece-78837141
I put it all together myself, made the centerpiece, and then photographed it myself. I have more close-ups of this altar in that gallery.
My second entry is a Winter Faery Queen costume I made some years ago. My mother helped me sew it, but I came up with the theme, picked out the fabrics and the pattern, made the wings and mask myself, and I did the makeup and accessorizing of the model, all myself. I also was the photographer:

Here is my depiction of winter Dreams in the Seams of Reality. This picture is a combination of things put together. All the photos I took my self, and also edited myself. Everytime I think of winter I think of abominable snowman! I have these fuzzy slippers I get every year with the abominable snowman so when I look at it I think of happiness and winter. I hope you like it!

Hello Doe (: Awesome comp :D
Anyways, I decided to draw a winter outfit in a winterish setting ?
http://melludee.deviantart.com/art/Winter-Challenge-Competition-105941163
So considering it’s not actually winter here (Australia) and when it IS winter, it never snows …I decided to go with something basic like ice skating … (even though … i never really go ice skating..) But yes, I’m sure the hot coffee / warm gloves / scarf and stockings show winter in a stylish way ! :D
Merry Christmas Doe xx

I’ve got an entry =)
I’ve been working on this for a few days now, and I have to say I’ve had -so- much fun. I haven’t written anything in years, so it was nice to be inspired again!
If I weren’t on a work computer, I would show you pictures of what this is all about. I think its what I miss most now that I’m out of Wisconsin. Sometimes I still wake up at about 4:30, and I just wish I had a horse to go take care of in my backyard, or something.

My submission, simply titled “Ice,” is an homage to a few of my friends who find that the winter season affects their mood to the point of depression and loneliness. The lone girl in a cold, vast, snowy plane is a fitting representation for this winter despair, yet the picture is hopeful. The bright, crisp light from the left of the picture holds a warmth and comfort for the girl; she acknowledges it, she is taken out of her frozen world by it. I hope that this picture is a reminder to everyone that winter holds more than ice and isolation; it offers love and warmth in the holiday season. Keep love in your hearts this winter, everyone :)

A poem for the contest. :)
Excerpt:
“I cannot find my lighter
in the country dark, or this place
and these shadows that close upon my head
when streetlights are broken on these grey roads,
or the salt-stained streets that melted winter.
Every step,
every step is the promise
of your heartcage around me.
Lungs are not needed for love,
but I can spare one addiction
for another. My seven extra minutes
is unknown and willing, watched
by neighbours with ashen eyes, hiding
in faux-frost apartments.”

I hope you like this poem – its still ridiculously warm in Cairo so this is sort of about the collison of the seasons !
preserved fruit
summer fruit
in winter wine
will keep me warm
for a long , long time
but will it bring back the
things I thought
were always
to be mine ?
the sweet liqour
does a heart
console
but preserved fruit
however sweet
is never again
quite whole
winter
curled in hours worth of warmth
of my own body’s lazy dreaming
I hear the desperate tapping
of the skeletal trees
against the glass
deluded they sense warmth
and believe beyond
the window
lies forgotten summer
am I to forever be
a tree tapping at your window ?
a slave to the winds
and the illusion of summer

So omg! I would just LOVE to win limecrime makeup! I’ve been begging my parents mercilessly to use their credit card to buy like every shade on here! Plus it was the number one on my Christmas list. I decided to do a makeup interpretation of what winter is to me.
Icy, cold, blue, silver, sparkly. :D I live in Canada on the west coast so my winter is mainly wet, but when we get a nice snow day, and then it freezes over night, it’s magical! All sparkly and icy. I like to go down to a field below my house, reminds me of something out of a fairy tale where the wicked witch would live :D
So my theme is icy cold winter :D

http://xxdarkangelbabyxx.deviantart.com/art/eye2-106015052
http://xxdarkangelbabyxx.deviantart.com/art/Eye1-106014980
The procedure was a base of a liiiiight blue, then to put in my shadow in the outside corners with my turquoise, adding some dark navy blue as well in the corners. I continued with some silver on the inside corners and then blended with this shimmery sparkly powder. I then continued with this white primer mascara on my lashes, and then adding the same whit sparkly powder on the lashes top and bottom.
I <3 This Blog, and remember the older tutorial website which blew me away when i found it!
Anyway, i have my fingers crossed, and good luck to everyone!

Oh My! What a brilliant competition! And if a bunch of new eyeshadow isn’t incentive enough to enter, then i don’t know what is :)
I find winter to be kind of mysterious and magical. It’s like mother nature is “pregnant” with spring….it’s perhaps not very comfortable, but things is a brewin’! Anyhoo, I’m rambling, but that is the feeling I hope to project with this little piece of digital art I did earlier this year ( when it was actually winter here! It’s summer here right now)

I’m a poet by trade, but I dabble in photography every once in a while. I think is the most wintry of my pictures.
It’s a shot of my favorite tree in all of Pittsburgh the day after a big snow. Mid-winter, everything’s still barren, but I’m excited because my favorite studying tree is taking a nap and getting ready for Spring.

This is my favorite picture from Iceland. It was a cold day where all the lava fields where covered in snow and the water was so clear you could see the bright blue sky reflected in it!
I actually think your make-up suits Iceland very much too! There are trolls and elfs living there and the landscape is just magical!

Hi Xenia, Thanks for the contest. I’ve been really depressed lately and haven’t put on any makeup for like 3 weeks, so this gave me an excuse to get out of bed and actually do something.
Winter by Lindsical
I realise that this isn’t a traditional look but when I think of winter I think of the long dark nights that watch over a blanket of ice and snow. But also when I think of winter I think of how there could be times where you see a tiny little plant, just a streak of green trying to break through the cold.
Thanks again!

I also wanted to comment, that I think this is a really great thing you’re doing for everyone. Especially during this time of the year and with the economy the way it currently is, you could be giving someone a nice gift who otherwise might not be getting a very nice Christmas. For my representation of Winter I wanted to use makeup as my medium and I kind of wanted to depict a “less friendly/fluffy” version of winter and show a darker, meaner side. Hope ya dig it. :)

Oh Christmas tree
How I wish you were here
But thank god there is Doe Deere
She is just as bright and tall
But she won’t break grandma’s fall (see: AFV)
She is a thing of wonder and joy
Along with her blogazine and makeup line
So this Christmas, I’ll be feelin’ fine
All the while
Staying warm and cozy
In my very drafty house. -.-
Her bright attitude
and bright makeup
Keeps the holidays fun
She is sure to please
With such ease
Just turn your computer on
Or… log on, on your phone
Because without Doe Deere…
Well,
Let’s just say this Christmas would SUCK.
xD
Happy Holidays Xenia! <)

What a wonderful idea. My submissions are photographs because photography is my true love and passion.
First one made especially for this contest, second one I made earlier this year.
I chose this photograph because winter in Holland is mainly cold, wet and dark. But not cold enough for it to snow. So winter for me is sitting inside with the Christmas lights on enjoying the bright twinkling lights in the dark.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3204/3098299992_8f972d6b4f_o.jpg
How ever, on some rare occasions it does snow in Holland. When it does, I get excited and go outside with my camera. And earlier this year, I found out that snow angels really do exist.

I finally got my entry finished: it’s just a few photos I took of a makeup look ‘inspired’ by christmas tree lights. They’re posted on my blog, which I’ve actually never gotten around to doing anything with before – this contest was great for motivating me to do something!
I’m a physicist by day, so all this creative stuff is a lot of fun. Also, so many of the other entries are really great – I’m so glad to have had the chance to see all of them.
So thanks Xenia, and Deerlings, for giving me Christmas glee!

I live in Sydney, Australia, so Christmas here is as it should be – hot, sunny and wonderful :)
These photos were taken last christmas day. Every year, my parents and I wake up and take our dog for a walk on the beach (which we live by) and then spend the day munching on fresh fruit, ham and prawns and in the evening my ex boyfriend and close friend comes out. Last year he bought his fire equipment and we went down to the beach at sunset and took the following photos.

So I just realized that today is December 15th and I thought to myself, “Oh geez! I must submit my short story!” And so, here is my short story or rather, flash fiction. It is entitled, “It’s Winter Time.” It’s in my blog: http://altending.blogspot.com/2008/12/its-winter-time.html. It is not the most conventional wintry story but it still is one nonetheless. Happy Holidays! Cheers!

This contest has had me thinking since it was posted last Monday. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do; a photo, a makeup look, a story?
Finally, I settled with a short piece of fiction. I’ll have to admit that your eye dust Snow Queen heavily inspired me in this short story and I frequently referenced to its color in helping me visualize my story.
Thanks for your consideration!
I really enjoyed participating in this contest!

Here’s our super late entry;
Hilda, the four year old Christmas girl, has finally arrived at her Grandfathers house after a long, long drive.
Before Hilda can run about, her mom tells her to check her shoes!

Hilda spots the hot chocolate!
http://fc76.deviantart.com/fs39/f/2008/350/c/e/Winterrrrrr_by_both_grew_lilly.jpg
As she sips it with her family, Hilda says the age old phrase she finds herself saying all the time; “Four and a HALF!” She corrects sternly.

Hilda helps trim the last bulb on the tree!

Alas, Hilda finds herself stuck with a gift-wrapped hindrance; Socks.
http://fc28.deviantart.com/fs38/f/2008/350/6/3/socks_by_both_grew_lilly.jpg
Finally, it’s time to leave, but Hilda will be back next year to make new winter memories.

I could go into how difficult this was to pull off…but it would take too long!
Lots of obstacles popped up, but all and all we got a good shoot, for two thirteen year old girls with an old film camera. :)
we where just pulled along by the thought of winning the adored limecrime make-up, something we plan on sharing, if we win. We both LOVE limecrime. At one point in time, we paused to discuss how wonderful it would be, just so that we could pull on through the night and take okay pictures while doing it. The result was Hilda, a little girl with freshly trimmed pigtails and big cute freckles. (ebby’s first make-up job, I might add!)
All I hope is that our work doesn’t go to waste, and maybe, just maybe, we win something that has been in our dreams for weeks; Limecrime cosmetics.

A dedication I worked all day on, solely for you what you give me through your blogazine:
Snow Queen
She travels magical mystical paths,
As snowflakes dance along the breeze of her trail,
As her snow-white skin caresses
every frozen petal she tinges,
Snow storms, hail and freezing winds,
Empower increased rages of frost-bite whims,
Marking great power with every step,
Lay deep dark mysterious intentions one has yet to have met,
She knows not of defeat!
For everyone yearn to seek,
The most glorious and gracious Snow Queen,
As the clouds become clear,
emerges another great lear,
by Your highness,
the great and magnificent Doe Deere!
