Lipstick from upcoming Lime Crime collection (Sept 2009)
- Get inspired by random colors and textures – a stranger’s blouse, eggplants in the produce section or a sun flower.
- Forget about warm/cool/neutral. Wear colors that make you happy, today!
- Take a friend makeup-shopping with you if you’re too shy to go alone.
- Try on a color you’ve never sported before. Declare it your signature shade for the season.
- It’s ok to splurge on 1 item you really, really love & can’t live without!
- Embrace color! It’s your choice; you can do it!
- Incorporate spring colors colors into your palette – like bright greens, yellows and lavender.
- Get excited about neon lipstick (get ready for the L.C. lip collection this summer!)
- Wear a heart beauty mark for a week.
- Apply makeup in public. Why reserve such a glamorous procedure for the ladies room? Pop open your compact and powder your nose amidst the junk food isle in a supermarket. Touch up your lipgloss in a line to a movie. Fluff up your lashes with an extra layer of mascara while waiting for your friend in a cafe. Do it, do it, do it!
- Got a lippie you never wear? Use it to write girl-empowering messages on mirrors & doors in public bathrooms. Hee hee.
- Unusual, fun nail polish is all the rage:

- Dare to wear a bold lip without lipliner!
- Can’t decide on a color? Pick one out with your eyes shut – and see if it works!
- Post inspiring makeup photos around your work space.
- Sign letters with a lipstick kiss. Reds and hot pink shades preferred!
- Join the blogosphere – post close-ups of yourself wearing your favorite products, review makeup you like or write about new stuff you’re super excited about!

I agree with almost all of them! Please don’t use lipstick to write on mirrors in public places, it’s very hard for janitorial staff to remove it and can make the mirror murky, making it harder for us ladies to use it in the future!
Other than that, these are fantastic. I’m breaking out the hot-pink lippie tonight, sans liner.

I just dyed my hair hot pink! And since then I’ve been wearing dark red/purple lipstick and blue nail poliosh with flowers painted on every day. summer=color and I love it!
That heart beauty mark is next! It’s not just for when I dress up as rainbow brite.

Hm, Doe, could you at some time mention how to work with matte shadows better? Or anyone else with tips for that matter. I simply cannot seem to blend them without blending them OFF. Sigh.

Ooooooh I’m looking forward to the LC lippies! Just another thing to add to my ridiculously long wishlist! sigh.
I used to wear heart-shaped glitter “beauty spots” all around my eyes to school as a teenager……If I do it again at my current age perhaps it will make me feel younger? I’m going to try to find out :)

Maaaaan, aside from stage makeup and drag queen instances, I can’t think of a time when lip liner actually looks good in broad daylight, in a normal setting, on a normal broad. It always looks exaggerated.

I agree with Amelia. No vandalism on the mirrors we need to apply the lipstick we do use! Try the stall walls. That’s still kind of gross and I would hate cleaning lipstick off walls or mirrors. I cleaned at a salon for a while and mirrors are hard to get clean no matter what’s on them!
I’m going to be in a play soon and I was thinking I would wear a heart beauty mark in that!
Lovely as always, Doe!

I started doing the last suggestion this month on my own blog — It’s so fun, and even though I didn’t really intend to originally, I think it’s going to become a regular posting item on mallorymaloney.com. :3
I also have been known to apply my makeup in public, haha — You’re right on the nose, it’s always fun and almost empowering! :D
And I agree with Becky! I always wear clothing and makeup that make me happy. :3

I’m a bit worried this will sound… silly. I am increasingly loving bright colors. Especially contrasts like blue and orange, fuchsia and olive green, etc. However, I don’t like to call attention to myself. Are there ways to make love to all this color without being the center of attention? (laugh) Or do I need a psychiatrist? Seriously, I’m an introvert with a growing love for color.

I live by rule #2. I love breaking the traditional rules of makeup by wearing colors that aren’t “normal.” Surprisingly, I get a lot of comments about my eye makeup! :)
Also, I love doing my makeup on the train. It saves me so much time in the morning.

You should post more tips like this! I love that you take such a fun approach to make-up. It does get tiring seeing the same advice over and over. This was refreshing to read, and hopefully it encourages more people to be a little more daring with their make-up!
