Btw you win major brownie points for listening to and knowing the Band Freezepop! <3
That’s a neat video, but I’m just wondering, where do you get the base colours from? Are they just any old eyeshadows?

Labs have access to hundreds of different pigments. It’s pretty cool actually!

Wow, even thinking about it is pretty gleeful, haha. I can totally see why you enjoy what you do, Doe :)

You can also make your own mineral make up at home. You can get supplies from sites like this http://www.theconservatorie.com/catalog/Oxides-2-1.html. They sell everything you need to make all kinds of mineral make up. I plan on experimenting and making my own fun color eye shadows since I have a hard time finding colors I can wear because my skin is mica sensitive. This is why I can’t wear Doe’s awesome shadows. I’m hoping to find a formula that works because I have a hard time finding stuff I can wear and when I do, those colors are boring.

Wow, that’s pretty awesome, I never knew that. Thanks for sharing :)

Cool I feel like I’m a kid again watching those Mr. Rogers segments where they show how to make crayons (crayons was my fave) and stuff! lol that was fun. I love that feeling i had when i was a kid watching that stuff and now I got to experience it again. XOX <3
Wow, that is really cool!
you had me with Parlez-vous Freezepop ;) for a sec i thought it was my itunes that was still playing :P
great vid btw ;)
this is quite interesting!
I’m now inspired to start making colors! Then again, that’s what I do in the Frameshop, make small colors pop out with the use of COLORS!
I love color!
btw, I absolutely love My Beautiful Rocket, it matches my OPI Orange Nail Polish! ^_^
It’s nice to see a tutorial- it sucks that people have been accusing you of repackaging loose eye shadows from other manufacturers- i mean, they get their colours manufactured in a lab. It’s not a surprise that you do, too.

(after you put in the work to create your unique colours, that is!)
Awesome!! I was wondering how that is done. How come you don’t use formulas/measurements though? Do you always squish it up in a baggie? Sorry can’t help asking questions XD

This is how you make a color sample. As I said in the video, samples are sent to a color lab which matches them to make a larger batch.

Wait. I thought i understood this whole thing making a sample, sending to lab, blah blah but Do you do it this way everytime you need a new large batch? And if you make it this way wouldn’t the slightest variation make all the batches possibly different?
Is this how you devolop new colours? Little bag and all?

I think it has been made clear that this is how she develops colour samples/ideas – not the actual product. The actual product which LimeCrime sells is made in a hygenic lab with specific procedures and measurements.

Alana please read more carfully your comment is irrelevent to mine. I was wondering if the batches were different if a sample that the lab uses to match it is different. Or is it all from one original sample. It seems obvious to me now. but still you clarified nothing because you answered and insulted me for asking questions I did not ask!
We LOVED this video!!! Great Colour for Fall/Winter too :) xoxox
xoxo
This is nice. Where do you get these ingredients?
I am so happy you made this video. I am so tired of people trying to convince me you repackage colors. The next person who emails me will get the link to this video. Thanks Xenia.

it certainly is adorable!!!
and the whole eye-shadow making thing looks like a gleeful game!
a color lab? is there such a place in the world??? sounds like somewhere i’d love to work :D
Huh. I never would’ve thought there was black in Twilight. Those minerals mix pretty darn well!
Very illuminating! It never occurred to me to use a plastic baggy for mixing colors. Maybe I’ll try mixing some of my fave LC shades to make a few custom creations. x3
Also! Hurray for Freezepop!
awesome! i’ve been so curious, it’s great to get some answers. thank you for being so caring of your curious readers!
Ooo loved this, interesting to see how it was done. So is this how you did all your colours then? Sat with the pots until you can up with something you liked and then they match it up?
I could say I’m a painter, I definitely love mixing colors and creating new ones, I wish I could mix colors like those thought…I’ve been meaning to ask you some things.
¿Are you planing to make nail colors and Lip/Eye liners as well?…
Some day’s ago you went to the Henry Bendel’s open see, you talked about your product ever making it into stores. ¿Wouldn’t you be able, or haven’t you thought of opening a store of your own?, or given that you are immersed in the fashion and design world, wouldn’t you be able to open a store with a partner, or a design gallery of the sort? of course, this would be in the future and something that should be perfectly planned, but haven´t you thought of doing it?
I actually have a million more questions to ask, but I’ll leave it like this
OMG so Russian! <3!!!
Love the Freezepop in the background too.
Not impressed.

I don’t think you’re hating. In fact, I agree with you. I would love to see her mix up shoe addict, or Siren.
wow… i love how subtle your work is… you really have an eye for color….
i was wondering if you ever had a major eyeshadow accident where color got everywhere, especially since they’re so pigmented…
hugz
Hmmmmmmmm… I’m honestly not really convinced. Sorry.

But I shall watch both the sides and think about it again… :) So no need to accuse me of being a hater, since I’m far away from that..
In my experience, there will always be jealousy and people will always try to bring people down (no matter what field you are in). We can make mistakes and it can get twisted into a lie, or sometimes the lies can be truths.
However, to me, if I like the packaging, the feel of the product, I’d rather pay a little more for something I like rather than pay less for something not up to par. I’m neutral in all this and would like to just enjoy good products.
Love it, and screw the haters!
Btw, where did you get that nail polish?
heard you mix some yourself, how do you do that? <3

You mix in pigment with nail polish base. You can also alter other nail polishes by doing the same, it’s fun! :)

Aah that sounds awesome :)
I should totally try that out, thanks
It looks like it’d be so much fun! I wanna try this, too! Maybe I should bring this to art class… it’s pretty relevant, isn’t it, to learning about the colour spectrum and stuff…

Oh, and Kudos for the Freezepop!
Also, I -could- be wrong, and before the comments start, I am NOT a hater, just a slightly disappointed fan after some of my own research awhile ago..
but, do “labs” really carry pigments? I know I have some of those same pigments from various wholesale sites online that carry in massive bulk. I’m not saying you’re making things up, but I’m curious =]
Also, do you know if you’ll be getting site links to blogs back on here?

Color labs have hundreds and hundreds available – that’s how they make, well, color. :)
The URLs feature is down right now, been dealing with a lot of spambots. Working on fixing it though so it should be up soon!

I actually looked up a local cosmetics color lab in my area and the process they describe on their website is just like the process that Doe describes. It sounds like a lot of fun working with these experts to get exactly what you’re looking for and I think I might try to arrange visit to the lab I found one day.
heres an idea: a signature lime crime perfume!! that would be so cool!!
I love it ! Thank’s a lot for this video ^^
It’s Beautiful color!!!^^
Me too create eyeshadows & I love it;)
