Amazing!
You really can work any sort of look and even put a futurist twist onto makeup from any time.

I’m going to be an elephant. It’s kind of a statement costume. I’m tired of my fuller framed friends being called elephants like it’s a bad thing. I’m going to go out and show everyone how beautiful, graceful & intelligent elephants are. Maybe the animal will eventually take on a more positive connotation :)

beware of any poison ivy costume if you happen to make one. haha just a warning, i made one for anime boston this past year, and it was a real pain. i had to keep reapplying leaves and stuff. so just as a helpful hint: go with a premade one! :3

Well, the solution to losing leaves and attachments is to hand-sew them on in a few places rather than depend on glue.

hehe that was my issue! every time i moved or put the costume on stitches would rip :P
Rickey Reply:

Ooh. Well, at least if you machine stitch you should use a zigzag because that will not resist stretching. If you did that, not sure what to tell you!

Hmm… yeah I guess that would be hard… I was thinking more of painting most of it, and maybe sticking some leaves to the hair… or maybe buy plastic flowers with leaves. That might work?

thats what my ivy looked like. the leaves were hand stitched around the top of the leotard, and the top of the half skirt thing.
the makeup i used was a combination of lime criminal, and then googoomuck by aromaleigh. put the shadow on your lips and then spray it with a makeup sealant. it’ll stay on for hours.

As a kid I dressed up as a VERY gaudy “magical seahorse” (strange idea!), and I’m thinking of reviving that costume in a more fashionable way this year. This month’s DDBD should have been a costume contest since everyone has all these cute ideas. :]

Oh dear god where do I begin! O.O For me Halloween is basically me going from party to party, and me not being caught in the same costume twice! What is even better is that the Rennisance Festival is going on right now to, so guess where I”ll be on halloween day! And not only that but Oni Con (anime convention) is going on the weekend of Halloween! (what am I doing to myself!)
So here’s my list of Halloween Goodies I’m working on!
Oni Con: Tifa Lovecraft with my skinny ripped jeans my combat boots with This Top and These Gloves In Pink!
Rennisance Festival: I’m making my own top hat (I know, its not rennisancy, but I’m sick of being 1 of many pirates) with tulle and lace with a nice hug ostrich feather accenting the top! With a Green Corset, Black skinny jeans and These Boots from Hot Topic.
Halloween Costume itself: Lady Kruger (I.e. Freddy Kruger if he were a girl) This has been part of an on going project of mine where I take male characters and turn them into fashionista girls (I’ve done Alex from Clockwork orange, Mr. Darcy, Jack Sparrow, and my favorite Tina The Tool Woman Taylor ^_^) This one is going to be fun. The boyfriend is going to put on latex burn makeup to one side of my face, on the other will be a mixture of Black lipstick (~_^) orange red and yellow eye shadow, with a pink and black striped shirt and pink gloves and brown shorts with combat boots (of course the knifed glove will be a staple, but girlied too ;)
I love dressing up, and probably will do this for some time. Heck! I dress up in my classroom for different periods in history, so far, the kids have loved the Flapper look! ^_^

I’d love to go as Emilie Autumn, the Ice Queen, or Mother Earth, but I’m kinda short on cash, so that won’t be happening this year. :/
My friend asked me to do a booth at our church’s Halloween carnival, and I suggested a Harry Potter booth. If the committee okays it, then maybe I could throw together a chep McGonagall costume.
If not, I could always go as the scariest thing imaginable–a “normal” person! (‘Cause I usually wear really funky clothes that look like Halloween or Renaissance costumes every day of the week, so for me to wear something “normal” would be a shocker!)

I’m stuck working from 5PM-2AM on Halloween (frown) but I’m still dressing up! I was originally going to go as Poision Ivy or a really twisted version of the Queen of Hearts or the Mad Hatter from Alice and Wonderland. But since I’m going to be serving and getting all hot and gross, I think I’m going to go with something simpler, like Hermione, something that has less extreme, more casual, easy to move in clothing and accessories.

I want to make a Street!Joker and Harley. Based on the cartoon versions. I was gonna make these cute capri pants for Harley but i’m having trouble finding the material I need so…if that doesn’t work…
I’ve already designed a Mad Hatter costume. Dark green and periwinkle suit (got from Salvo. Just got to color it!) White button up with long sleeves and a crushed velvet-like corset to go on it. White spats and black boots. White lacey fingerless gloves and a hat to match the corset. Complete with periwinkle ribbon and hat card :)
Now…I just gotta pull it together! he he!

I am going to be Alice in Wonderland for Halloween. I’ve always been called Alison Wonderland, so now I have a complex. :) I had a very accurate Alice dress when I was a toddler. I’ve been yearning for a grown-up sized one, so my best friend’s mom and grandmother made me a wonderful Alice costume over the summer. It’s the real deal! No slutty Alices allowed! It’s the perfect Alice blue, and it has an adorable pinafore with tucks, ruffles, and heart pockets. I love it. I will be carrying a cupcake purse that has an attached tag reading, “Eat me.”

This is awesome in time for Halloween. I was thinking of finally going as Snow White. Last year I think I was Red Riding Hood. I was inspired to be Snow White after looking at pictures of myself as a kid. I used to be porcelain white and had long, jet black hair. I think I get it. “let them eat cake!” So you decorated yourself like a cupcake =P Very cute, can’t wait to see the rest.
I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO BE!!! Somebody help me! Someone HELP ME FIGURE IT OUT! I had the best idea of a costume (it’s top secret what that was) I was going to make but time flew by and in a year I never figured out how to use my sewing machine (I can’t figure out how to assemble the spool thing) and I didn’t lose the weight I wanted, only around 25lbs. =( What’s creative that an overweight 19 year old can be? Torrid makes costumes in my size but they’re like $120+ after accesories and the shoes that go for a completely unoriginal and slutty outfit you’ll never wear again. I mean cleavage is great but why would obese girls want to flaunt their thighs?! My cellulite pale thighs might make people get confused “are you gretal or the moon?”!
If anyone has ideas for me I can sew by hand and there’s always the glue gun. What’s cute on fat girls?

My go-to costume is a disco ball! So much fun (for any size, mind you)– just a sparkly dress and probably black tights and lots and lots of twirling, of course.
It depends so much on what you like… Mary Poppins? Girl Bowie? Sparkly vampire (haha)? Superhero of your own invention? Superhero in disguise? Butterfly peddler? M.I.A.? Robots In Disguise? Fortune teller? Honeybee?
(P.S. With steampunk, think The Golden Compass– the movie, not the book. It’s an entire subculture based on pocket-watches and top hats and monocles, though I think it generally works better on guys… I’m not a corset person, but I do appreciate dapperness, haha.)

I took an idea for my Halloween costume from my myspace handle – “Miss Anthrope”.
I’m going to be a dejected pageant girl – Miss Anthrope
I’m going to make a sash with pink letters and black bows. I’m going to wear a black halter dress, black fishnets, black boots. I bought a tiara that I’m going to spray paint black.
I have to work Halloween at a restaurant, I just figured if people don’t get it, I can tie in the whole misanthrope idea. I’ve printed out little definition slips of the word and I’ll just hand them out with a distasteful look.

I still can’t choose between a futuristic Alice in Wonderland, or a cannibal. I love the cannibal idea because of my ability for super extreme eye makeup and deathly pale foundation.

My first choice was to go as Lady GaGa, but then at the last minute my boyfriend and I realized that we’d be the perfect Link and Navi; I’m extremely short and curvy with a face that looks younger than my age, and he is quite tall with sharp facial features. I plan on gathering materials over the Fall Break this weekend so I can start sewing the costumes and making the ears, etc. Can’t wait!

Yeah, I’m being Alice in Wonderland… predictable, but I think I’m a little entitled, haha– last year I was an interpretive magpie with flapper influences, and the year before I was your inner child as imagined by Ana Matronic. I was almost The Walrus, and my friend, who was the Queen of Hearts last year, might be the Mad Hatter!

What a beautiful make up! I dressed up as Marie Antoinette for a Dead Celebrity party a few months ago.
Here I am with Lady Gaga (dead career apparently)

This year I’m having a combined Halloween/Friday 13th (Nov)/Birthday (also Nov) celebration. I’m a little…uhm..infamous for going overboard at my parties so I’m actually starting to source the fog machines and paper mache stuff now since the invites have gone out (little gold boxes with scrolls and bloddy severed-finger biscuits) and I’ve realised how bloody little time I’ve got left!
The party theme is a sort of based on Jason Webley’s ‘Dance while the Sky Crashes Down’ song…I’ve got people coming as everything from cursed victims, to Maori mytholigical beasts to Baron Samadi…and I’m going as a sort of monster queen.
(and yeah – I have awesome friends).
…but I dress up in costume for a job – so I have to go all out for halloween otherwise it just feels like work!

I’d say it’s a comment on all the crappy vamp stuff out there right now, but I love True Blood too much for that :P

Well, for Halloween, I’m going to be a belly dancer, but I’m actually working on several other costumes right now as well. My belly dancer costume is the first costume I’ve ever bought as opposed to made by hand– ever. I ordered the top and the pants on ebay (gold, silver, and hot pink), and already had a hot pink, gold, and silver jingly hip scarf, so I’m excited for that.
However, my school has a tradition called color day. It’s like a HUGE spirit day, basically. We are the South Pasadena Tigers, so everybody makes up some crazy costume in all orange and black. Last year, there were two sets of really great costumes: 1, a group of friends who made giant chinese takeout boxes and went as orange chicken, and 2, another group of friends who went as a living room- there was a sofa, a table+TV, a grandfather clock, an easy chair, and (among other things) even a bear rug, and they came to school an hour early and just sat in the middle of campus! It was fabulous. Anyhow, this year I’m dressing up on my own and going just as a tiger, but my own take on it. So I’ll do tiger stripe eyes going into my hairline, and a black nose and orange falsies, black lipstick (I was going to wear my beautiful rocket until shipping was delayed by almost a month), a giant orange tutu, a ribbon and sequin covered black corset top, a black feathered and netted comb-on hat, a tiger sleeve tattoo from chinatown, orange+black striped tights, and black stilettos and black satin opera gloves. And, I’m going to curl my hair, spray it bright orange, and spray a few individual curls black like tiger stripes. I’m so excited, and will of COURSE post pics on my blog (link in my name).
Thirdly, I’m working on another Victorian Ballgown for another Victorian Ball– this one’s in November, so I’ve picked a beige and cream stripe silk and a simple pearl trim. Will post pics of this, too.
And, finally, I just volunteered to costume all twelve of the twelve dancing princesses for my high school’s fall play. Thankfully, I’m one of the twelve and will likely be able to wear the pink Victorian gown I’ve already made and will only have to deal with eleven princesses. Oh, and a king, some princes, and an old woman/queen/servant/chambermaid/choir conductor.
But, I’m still really excited.

I really, really badly want to update my Harley Quinn costume from last year, but I don’t know if I’m going to end up with time between now and then, so I might use the same one as last year:
http://Blade-Of-Mako.deviantart.com/art/Oh-Puddin-103232133
I also did a sort of Marie Antoinette inspired thing recently! Big huge wig, walked around Toronto — the little girls thought I was a princess. It was fabulous, I’d recommend doing it just for the experience. :P

This is perfect. I’m being Marie Antionette – back from the dead (don’t worry, I’ve sewed my head back on though the scar is rather terrifying). In an attempt to compensate for my less-than-admirable behaviour in life, I am giving everyone free – you guessed it – cake. Who doesn’t love a Halloween costume that involves free cake?
I wasn’t sure what to do about the makeup, but this will definitely help. I’ll have to add some dark circles under my eyes and perhaps some rotting flesh, but I think Marie would have still plastered on the makeup in her afterlife!
Halloween is the best day of the year – I get so into it. I plan to speak French all day and be a real jerk to all my plebian friends.

I’m having a hard time trying to decide what to be. My boyfriend and I were going to go as Superman and Lois Lane, but then decided that we preferred to do something a little more inexpensive. (Only his costume would be expensive. Not to mention he’s 6′4” and 265, so he’s very tall and built. Boo!) Anyway, since changing that idea, I haven’t been able to come up with anything. All I know is that I want to do something that requires challenging, bright eyemakeup. Any ideas you guys? :) Thank youuu!
