Tales of the Unicorn Queen

Miss Cupcake is a busy girl. With 2 parties to attend in one night, she needs 2 fab looks she can transition to without a complete work-over! This tutorial will teach you how to go from a Sweet Cherry to a full-blown Cupcake in mere moments!

This was originally designed for the New York Couture runway show (the collection is all about cupcakes!), but we didn’t end up using it. Great for Halloween though!

Interesting! I need to flow seamlessly through my makeup this weekend, Freddy Kruger and Steam punk don’t exactly blend well!

I have a Teaching interview today though! Wish me Luck!

    Doe Deere Reply:

    Hahaha! I would love to see a Freddy-to-Steampunk tutorial… ;)

Good luck with your interview sweetie!

The “Sweet Cherry” idea is cute, but I must say I don’t like the “Cupcake” look at all. It looks a little more clownish than glamorous.
I’d like to see more super-colorful tutorials from you! Didn’t someone say they wanted to see how you did the unicorn look awhile back? :)

    Doe Deere Reply:

    I guess it’s more of a runway-inspired look :)

I feel I have to agree. And I hate saying that.
This is the first time I haven’t been 100% flbabbergasted
I think it might have to do with those black brows though too

    Lots of love though
    You always push the boundries

Yeah I’m the one (or one of) who said I wanted that tutorial and I’ve been waiting! PLEASE!? Not that I didn’t love this. Oh and what happened to the links in our names?! I really liked that. I don’t like being just a name and i like some of the blogs I’ve found from other “Deerlings”?

    Rickey Reply:

Ditto on the name links– I’ve found some really cool sites through here!

Sorry, technical difficulties – still trying to figure it out!

I need to make a costume for halloween so short notice, id like to be marie antoinette but cant put something together. Could youu help? Or do another halloween tutorial i could use to make another costume?

    youur the best<333

    Mona Reply:

I went as Marie Antoinette a while ago. You could easily fashion a “crinoline” out of a scarf and two pillows. Then you just need to drape some fabric over it (curtains, pretty sheets…). I used a velvet cloak from another costume. As a top a corset and a lacy blouse from Forever 21, but any tight fitting low cut thing works. No need to sew!

    Kelsey Reply:

If you want something glamourus that won’t be as difficult to pull together from minimal materials/money, you could go as a golden age start. Decide if you look more like Katherine Hepburn or Marlene Deitrich and match up to either a costume from one of their movies or to an actual premier outfit. Even if you wind up springing for something, you can wear it later.

  • Kendall says:

What about a exclusive 3 look halloween tutorial? 3 different costume/ halloween looks!

    please pease please doll<3

  • Hendrix says:

I’m not one to draw pictures on my face. I think this one’s more theme photoshoot material.

  • Maggie says:

Where do you find those jewels? They’re awesome but I can’t seem to find any online :C

Love this! You have such gorgeous eyes.

the cupcakes just look awkward…I’m not sure of a time when that would ever make sense in public.

    Doe Deere Reply:

Hehe, this was supposed to be a Halloween look! Guess should’ve mentioned it in the post…

  • Suzanne C. says:

OMG I love sweet cherry sooo much! and all I need is a big rhinestone i can pick up at wal-mart and Centrifusia! I’d wear that on a random Friday who needs a holiday!?
I’d love to see a bunch of miss cupcakes at the circus or fair instead of elephants! Reminds me of one of my fave cancelled shows Pushing Daisies when they’d go to all those strange colourful places.

  • rhia says:

so gorgeous.i’m gonna give this one a go! I remember when my friends and I had a limey makeover party – best night ever! we did doll parts, raccoon pinkie and one other that i can’t remember. I also wanna try pirate girl

:] I’ve been watching your blog for about a year now.. and I’ve always been a tomboy and conservative with makeup if I ever wore it (even my hair! I’m not a dress up type of person, I put that creative effort into my drawings!)
Just wanted to let you know that you’ve inspired me to try new things (for the “haha, I look silly”s and the “hey! I don’t look half bad”s). I’m unable to purchase things online at the moment.. and I was really craving your lippies, so I tried to mix lipgloss with an eyeshadow I had…. a dark-ish, metallic blue… and I actually felt really excited… like I crossed a boundary (asian yellow undertoned skin plus blue= a no-no) but without the guilt of breaking law. :d
:] Pics are proof of your ability to get people out of their comfort zones! (Boring hair, room walls, and clothing is… well.. me. Haha.)

Thank you so much, Doe! :]
I might actually dress up sometime this year! XD

    Rickey Reply:

Wow- you look REALLY good in the black lipstick- it’s perfect for you, and dresses up the outfit significantly!

    Colleen Reply:

Oh no, it’s not a black lipstick…It’s a eyeshadow (more dark blue?) mixed with a gloss.. unfortunately.. I have enough money, I just can’t buy things online… and I would DIE to get some lipsticks from Lime Crime. :<

This was just an attempt to make myself not go insane and showcase my newfound love for edgy colors! :D

    Rickey Reply:

Well, that doesn’t make it look any less Gorgey McPorgey!

    Suzanne C. Reply:

NICE! I’ve done that too but with a creamshadow from Revlon that was a metalic dark blue but mine had much more silver. You look great. FUN! =)

    Doe Deere Reply:

You look phenomenal with dark lips! Great job :)

  • Tianne Marie says:

I love that cherry idea! Doe, your new lip promo photos on LimeCrime are GREAT! They really show colour and I like it a lot. As for the MTV Buzzworthy- DO IT! It’s just what you need to get the word out and show Bendel YOU’VE GOT IT!

Sigh. Utah is so far from NYC…

  • Simone says:

The cupcake look might be the first tutorial of yours that I wouldn’t be daring enough to try XD

But still, you can rock it and it’s cute :)

    x

  • Sunny says:

I have to agree too, I love the cherry look but I’m not impressed by the cupcake look a whole lot, it doesn’t seem like a huge transformation, but the jewels are adorrrable! Do you still have your ollddddd tutorials from your old Lime Crime site? I think you should post them somewhere =].

Oh! and is there any possibility of having some olive-skin-toned people, or those of asian descent (but not super pale like you =D ) wearing the lipsticks? P.S. LOVE the little unicorn on the magic dusts page!!!

    Izzy Reply:

If you go to the makeup category and keep going through all the pages, all of her old ones are posted there. :)

    Sunny Reply:

oohh you’re a lifesaver, thanks!! I’m SO excited now =]

  • Rickey says:

Yay for new swatches!!!!!!!!!!! I KNEW Styletto was prettier than it was shown! (And all of the others, too, especially Retrofuturist looks FFaVulous!!)

    Rickey Reply:

Oh dear- I didn’t even say anything about the tutorial- I like the cherry look bunches, but the cupcake one might be better with glitter on the top and smaller rhinestones– the big ones look a little out of place… still not sure, though. Might also look better if it was only on one eye.

  • Daisy says:

I luuurrrrve the cupcake look! I am totally cupcake obsessed and this just made me grin with GLEE! Halloween isn’t huge in Australia, but if it were I’d definately be going as a cupcake with this look! I’m thinking of doing this look for my daughters first birthday.
Yep you guessed it, the theme is “Mini-Marie Antionettes: A tea party fit for a small queen”!

  • Jade says:

    Hey
This has nothing to do with new make-up tutorial, but want to say it anyway :)
Last night I actually dream about you, haha. Not in a pervy way, because that’s how it sounds. Because I ordered some make-up and lipstick from you, that day I read that you had posted them, I think that’s what triggered it. But I dreamt you and Mark went and visited like places that you hadn’t heard of before, and so you came to where I live in the Channel Islands, because I was sure you wouldn’t have heard of them. You came, and then you met me and we walked down to the beach.
Yes, random, but random can be good :)

    Doe Deere Reply:

It’s happened to me before, dreaming about people I’ve only met online. It’s always the weirdest feeling!!!

  • Izzy says:

The new lip swatches are fantastic! They look so much better and I feel like I’m getting a better sense of what they look like. I had trouble telling the difference between D’lilac and Airborne Unicorn before.

I’d really love to see Atim in all of the colors, I noticed there were no swatches of her in some of the darker shades, Centrifuchsia or Retrofuturist or My Beautiful Rocket (I’m especially interested to see her in that last one). It’s really neat see your colors against different skin tones.

    Doe Deere Reply:

We didn’t have time to shoot all of them, but I chose the lighter colors because they come in most contrast with her skin. Except Styletto, she really wanted to do that one and I can see why – it looks gorgeous on her! :)

  • Momoko says:

I rather like it. I’m not sure if it’s something I’d do, but it’s very fitting for lime crime.

  • Jenny says:

The cupcake look is adorable! It’s something I can wear to work on Halloween! Yay!

  • monica burnett says:

    cupcake eyes?! how cute!!

  • Satsuma says:

    Speaking of cupcakes!
    http://cocoperez.com/2009-10-07-crave-attention-drive-a-cupcake
I think it’d be better if you could duck into it so it wasn’t obviously carrying a passenger, haha.

Anyways. The looks are so clever! I feel like a single cupcake eye could be part of a perfect Candyfuturistic pirate outfit– too bad I’ve already got a Halloween costume, ha!

  • sallerina says:

i’ve been reading your blog for just a little while now and love it, i think the way you do your make up is amazing and very inspiring but what i’d really love a tutorial in is how you get your skin so amazing! i’m fair and have good skin but i’d really like to know how to get your glow

  • Caley says:

Looks in Awe. Something I have never thought of. Contemplates what else she can do.

  • Tristain Nicole says:

where can i find the pics of atim? all i can find is ths cosmopop one on the blog???

    Sunny Reply:

Click on the different lipstick colors on the makeup site and scroll down, she’s modeling most of the colors on each individual page =]

  • twinklingsophie says:
