my favorite thrift store/vintage find was my graduation dress. it’s a pretty yellow and green floral fifties swing dress with a white ribbon around the waist. i love it because i wore white round toe heels and white wrist-length gloves. my math teacher thought it was hilarious, but i’ve never felt prettier in my life!

Ooh! My favorite is this 80’s black dress, it’s black and knee length and poofs out, and it’s got a huge bow in the back! I love it! I only paid five dollars for it at Goodwill!
I wish I had a good picture of it, though :(

The best thing I ever found was a long white nightgown at the Salvation Army. It had lace and frills, with fake-pearl plastic buttons. And it was good for multiple Halloweens.
With bedhead and green face paint, I was Regan from The Exorcist. With a mess of black eye shadow and creative body bending, I was the girl from The Grudge/The Ring.
And, my most favorite, was when I had an acorn necklace and got to be Wendy — I even had a Peter Pan in my best friend, Tilly!

My favorite vintage find was a great big blue trunk, like this. My friend and I, who are moving in together, thought it would be perfect for the house. It was such a good price, and in such good condition, that we not only went on a 20 minute search for a bank machine to get money out, we carried it the hour plus walk back to where we live. The walk home included a ferry ride and cutting through the heart of our city’s downtown on a saturday night. We got a lot of dead body jokes.

Mine is my silly little 8’s style swatch watch. The funky looking ones with all the designs on them. Back when I was in 8th grade my teacher asigned all of us to do a project on any time period. I was a HUGE 80’s fan so I jumped all over it. I bought the Swatch Watch off of ebay just to have something REAL from the 80’s. Wth everything else I brought, the teacher told me in her 4 years of doing the project she had never had someone do so well on it and put so much in to it as I did. :3

My favorite vintage find is a GIGANTIC, sequined pink Bag. I found it in Mebourne on a flea market and it looked so lonley that I just HAD to take it. It only costed 3 Dollars anyway=) So since I´m back in Germany, where everyone has brown and black bags for school, I feel very revolutionary=)

My favorite is this navy-blue dress with a nautical star over the heart– it gives me SUCH an hourglass figure. I feel like a pin-up-girl-tattoo on a sailor’s arm when I wear it, which sounds a bit ridiculous, but I really enjoy it.

My favorite vintage item would have to be these old china dishes from a friend’s mother who passed away. They are over 100 years old and in perfect condition. I can only imagine how long she held on to these.. keeping them nicely tucked away so they would not be scratched or damaged. My mother wanted to sell them but it would be unfair to do so, since they obviously meant so much to the woman who previously owned them.

My favourite vintage find is my lovely pair of black patent leather Gucci shoes with a tiny golden Gucci logo on the front. They are from the 70’s! My great-aunt gave them to me since she didn’t wear them anymore. She had only worn them 5 times! They are lovely and I wear them a lot :)

Mine was my 21st Birthday present from my Mum – it was shortly after Yves Saint Laurent had died, and we found this vintage costume YSL necklace in little jewellary shop near where we live.
It fulfils all my greatest desires for a necklace, and indeed for my life – it’s giant, gold and shiny! Also it was a nice way to comemorate my birthday and his death.

My favorite vintage find is my most recent one. It’s this giraffe brooch (http://img22.imageshack.us/my.php?image=pingiraffes.jpg)– I was lusting over it in a quaint little hole-in-the-wall stall but it certainly wasn’t cheap, I didn’t have any cash on me (the store didn’t accept credit cards), and my friend said it wasn’t worth the price. We walked away in the rain and I went back the next day but it was gone. I’ve always loved giraffes, so I almost cried. And then the next day I got it in the mail because my friend had gone back right after to get it for me… aww! :)

OMG!
Its kinda hard to decide what my most favorite is!
But I would defiantly have to say that it would be the red sequined dress.
I was really crazy. I actually think that someone took a black slip dress and sewed all the sequins on.
It really is a shame that I left it on a bus in the bag of recently purchased clothing.
I didn’t even get to wear it or take and wicked pictures.
Its been two years an Im still morning my loss.

I obtained a 70s red velvet dress with a victorian-like high colllar with lace from a thrift store. this dressed started out as floor length with hideous bell sleeves so i broke out my sewing machine and scissors and made it above the knee length and cute little puffy short sleeves! i ALWAYS get comments on it when in public. :)

I actually have two. I have two 1970s original Laura Ashley dresses that belonged to my mum when she was a student. we were digging the junk out of our attic and came across a trunk full of her old clothing from her university days in the 70s. I immediately picked out two floor length dresses in bright floral cotton, blue and pink. They’re really old from the first store that Laura Ashley ever opened and possibly quite valuable. The funny thing is, they fit me just as well as when my mum wore them.

I have this floral womans muumuu that I bought at a swapmeet for 50cents a few years ago. It’s so old and so big that I just wear it as a dress. I love the flowers, I love how its faded. I can wear it alone, or with leggings, let it flow free and big, or cinch it with a belt. Ive worn it so many times Im surprised it hasnt fallen apart.

My best vintage finds would have to be My Costume Jewelry. I love going to the flea market and finding new pieces. I started my collection a few years back when the older lady next door passed away and her son told me to take whatever i wanted, so i saw a Jewelry box filled with Costume Jewelry since then i have been in love with them and go in search fro rare unique pieces. I love to dress up and wear then too. Here is a photo of my Magic box, lol as i call it

I’ve never had much luck finding good vintage finds… so I guess I’m going to have to check out Mod Cloth! I did, however, find an original peace sign necklace that belonged to my mother sometime during the early 1970s… but I wasn’t shopping, just cleaning out the barn (sometimes where you find the very best finds) ;-)
My goal right now is to find a nice pair of black Victorian boots.

Definitely my mothers wedding dress. As my parents had two weddings, one done in traditional Koreans style, and one in “American” style, it is a very casual piece for a wedding. All white lace with a deep v-neck in the back, pretty delicate sleeve caplets and tiered layers that reach the knee.
Absolutely exquisite and I wore it for my high school graduation… and I got it for free!

I had been searching for a trenchcoat for about a year, but never found one that was the right size or length. While I was on vacation in Florida, my friend and I went to a consignment store. As we were walking around, something caught my eye. It was a vintage military trenchcoat in dark green! It was the perfect size and long enough to reach my ankles! And only eighteen dollars! I can never wait ’til winter now so that I can wear it.

I have many favourites, but if I have to choose one it’s this dress: http://www.flickr.com/photos/johanni/2299712245/in/set-72057594068001539 I don’t have any photos that do it justice yet but it’s the most amazing dress ever. All brocade and mink fur and it fits like it was made for me. It looks so very royal. I bought it on ebay and paid a lot (a lot for me anyway) because I just had to have it.
A funny thing about it. It’s obviously tailor made or home sewn, but when I showed it at my livejournal someone replied that they have the exact same dress, except with different fur (she showed a picture and it’s definitely the same cut and fabric, although mine looks better I think ;P). So not only were two identical dresses made, probably by the same person, that still survive today, but the other dress belongs to someone who just happened to read my livejournal. Strange!
(Those gloves are perfect!)

I would say my favorite vintage find was an Oscar de la Renta Maxi sun dress =) Being the Ebay stalker for vintage finds that I am, I saw this and couldn’t believe it. $.99 for authentic? It couldn’t be! After all was said and done, I own it now for $19.95 with the shipping, and I absolutely ADORE it! (and yes, it IS real. Its just back at the very beginning when he was launching his own label shortly after designing for Elizabeth Arden!) No pictures yet, as its too cold up here in Minnesota to wear it out properly, but I love pairing it with my black Nina multi-color heeled sandals, a black belt that ties and knots in the front, and of course, my large-brimmed cream-colored hat! It will be total beach perfection come this summer =)

I’d have to say my favorite vintage find is a hat. It has a black cap white a white rim. It has a black feather and a small black fishnet-esque veil that can be pulled down in the front. I bought it in Mt. Dora in Florida, a town that is known for its antiques shops. After I bought the hat, a couple of old folks from Virginia asked if they could take a photograph with me while I wore the hat. Pretty neat experience to go along with a pretty neat hat.

My favorite vintage find is a winter coat I found recently at Volunteers of America. Its bright red, with faux fur collar and cuffs.
I pulled it out from the rack and my friend immediately said “You HAVE to get that!” And it fit perfectly, so how could I say no?
Eight dollars and fifty cents later (I was ridiculously excited at this point) I had a brand new coat. All I’ve done is reattach some of the fur and replace the buttons.
Then, the best part, investigating further, by concensus of my mother (who sews quite a bit) and I, it seems to be handmade.
I felt really lucky that day…

My best vintage find was a pair of multicolored suede heels that happen to be wearing as I type. When ModCloth (which I adore, BTW — Yay for pairing with them!) started featuring fans’ finds on their blog, I sent in a pic of them (http://www.modcloth.com/store/images/Fav_find_shoes.jpg) that let my shoes be shown to the whole fashion world. I would have to say my favorite vintage find would be this delightful gold belt I have that is designed to look like a snake. I remember eyeing one similar in the Urban Outfitters catalog and thinking it was neat, but definitely not worth the outrageous price tag. Lo and behold, while vintage shopping with my close friends, I found one exactly like it…maybe even better! It’s shiny, gold, with a little mouth the opens and closes so it can bite it’s tail and form a belt :) I love it! And it adds something interesting to any outfit.

Mine would definitely have to be a pair of opera length gloves in apple green in a soft as silk knit. They’re so perfect for everything from glam to the military look and they make me feel utterly feminine with everything.
They were at a vintage thrift shop, hidden behind some truly atrocious handbags. I suspect someone was hiding them until they could come back for them. Oops.

my favoritest ever vintage find… that’s so hard! i guess if i had to choose it would be my gorgeous black tutu with the golden sequins sparkling all over it. it doesn’t get much of a chance to see the outside world (since my pre-al teacher would probably ask why I am dressing like a five year old when I am in the seventh grade, not to mention it’s about five inches too short for the dress code), so i wear it whenever i can. I even wore it to the school dance once and earned the nickname Disco Ball! I got it for $5 at this amazing garage sale that was at this beautiful Victorian house and I remember it mostly because they played Safety Dance. <333

My favorite vintage find is actually something my mother found. The week before she was getting married, after having picked out all her wedding stuff months before, she went out to get a pastrami-on-rye, and saw a no-name vintage dress in a shop window. She knew it was HER dress.
The dress is an ivory confection from the 1950s, strapless, with a fitted bodice, and a HUGE ankle-length skirt.
It’s also the type of dress that needs those annoying bra inserts to keep it up. In her wedding video, my mom can be seen pulling the pads out, and throwing them into the crowd, instead of tossing her bouquet.
I plan to wear that dress when I get married (and possibly continue the pad-tossing tradition).

Here we really don’t have used clothes store or vintage clothes.
But to be hones, I don’t even need it, simply because my grandma saves every single cloth she ever had worn (and not to say even what my mom has worn).
But until two years ago, I really thought about that stuff as ‘junk’. Because, well who knew by then about vintage fashion? Well it surly wasn’t me.
But one of that days I went on a treasure hunt. I wanted something unique, and since my grandma always offered me all of those clothes, I said that I shall give it a try!
So I went and I really fell in love with a brown vintage 6 buttoned coat. It’s amazing! The buttons were off, but I didn’t care since my grandma saved them, so I could sew them on!
And you know what? The coat makes me really feminine, it’s brown but it looks so classy, that when I wore it for the first time everyone was asking me where did I get it.
And I told them the truth.. that it’s a 50 years old coat, that my mom wore it when she was young and then my grandma save it.
But in most cases I just smile, because it really is a treasure…

My fave vintage find is probably my hot pink and black dress that i wore to my junior prom. It’s knee length, with a tutu of like 15 layers of black and pink mesh and lace, and a metallic pink bodice covered in black lace. There’s beading on the bust and a HUGE bow of black mesh with metallic pink polka dots on the butt. I know it sound hideous but it’s AMAZING.
I saw it in the window of Uncle Margaret’s, a vintage shop in my town, and NEEDED IT, fiercely. Called my mom and she and her friend came to pick me up and see the dress. It was maybe $50 or so but the woman who owns the shop gives you a discount if you answer a trivia question correctly. We chose the literature category and the question was, “Who wrote Slaughterhouse five?”
Kurt Vonnegut lives in my town. I went to school with his grandson.
I love my dress. It was teeny tiny and i had to let out the bust. But it. is. magic.

Pretty much half of my wardrobe is vintage, but this story is about my weirdest vintage find.
I was working through a pile of clothes, when I saw a flash of fabric I recognized. And there it was, a furry blue cardigan, the exact twin of one I bought more than 10 years prior. The only difference was that mine was way more worn than the one I pulled from the pile.
I kept looking for more stuff, saving the cardigan to replace it with the old one, when my mom approaches me and asks why did I bring my cardigan when it was so hot. So, at leatts for a while, I owned two identical cardigans.

My favorite vintage item is a gold mirror compact I bought in a huge antique “mall.” The place has since been demolished which is a real bummer because there was always some really cool and equally creepy things you could find in there. We used to have tons of antique shops in my town, they’ve moved and been replaced with a super wal-mart…yaaaay:(

My school puts on a dance show every year, and this year I’m in the Grease dance. I found the perfect vintage 50’s dress in this style However, the one I found is pink with white polka dots! When I was about 10, I was rollerskating down the hill that I lived on. I saw that my neighbors who were moving, had thrown out a lot of stuff. The one thing that caught my eye was a large sparkly beaded belt that was definitely too big for me to wear back then, but now it’s one of my favorite accessories! The owner told me that it had belonged to her grandmother but since she never wore it, they decided to throw it out! The horror! But the best part was that it was free! =D

Mine would have to be a pair of sandals I took from my mother, who stopped wearing them a long time ago, when she started to develop bunions. They had a loop that went around the big toe, which had a metal covering on it so it looked like a toe ring. I loved those shoes and I wore them to shreds haha. I wish I hadn’t though, I’ve not been able to find sandals as comfortable! I wouldn’t be able to fit them anymore anyway though, as me feet have grown since then. Nowadays I use their memory as a standard by which I judge the comfort of all the shoes I plan to buy.

My most favorite vintage find would have to be the most gorgeous pair of silk black gloves. My Grandma had charged me with cleaning out her upstairs spare room, which had become inundated with boxes and other junk. In the bottom of a box of old lace curtains and table clothes (Also a great find!), I found a pair of black wrist-length gloves, semitransparent, with long delicate fingers, and the most gorgeous little ruffle on the hem. The seaming on each finger is amazing; there’s actually two pieces for the top and bottom of the glove, and a piece that goes inbetween each two fingers, resulting in a truly perfect fit that you just don’t get with modern two-piece gloves.
I showed them to my Grandma, and she even dug out the picture of the full ensemble; an adorable Jackie-O style powder blue dress with black trimmings and the gloves with a jaunty little hat to match. I’m still hoping I’ll find those someday :3
For now, these gloves are a staple in my accessory wardrobe. They’re so cute and versatile, you can dress ‘em up or down. And every good goth girl needs a lovely pair of gloves.

I *wish* I had a better picture of this piece, but it’s is at my mom’s house on the other side of the state. This is the only picture I could find of me wearing the coat (http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/asphyxiad0ll/omgtehsam.jpg)
My favorite vintage find ever is a long black coat made of low pile faux fur. It has a little fake belt that goes around the back to make the coat more fitted, and 6 big gold buttons in the front (3 work, 3 are for show). The buttons eventually started falling off, so I grabbed some opalescent pink buttons from a craft store and sewed them on myself to make it a bit more unique. I found it at a vintage store in Pittsburgh’s South Side called Yesterday’s News, and I immediately fell in love.

I wore this dress for halloween as a bride. Not a dead bride, or zombie bride, just bride. It was so beautiful when i saw it on the racks at a Frenchy’s (a thrift store in Atlantic Canada)in the valley. (I have no details, we all just refer it as “the valley” here in Nova Scotia, Canada :P) I felt awful wearing it out on the road, it deserved so much more, but I’m sure its better to get it air than leave it in the store. Its a work of beauty, with all the HAND DONE detailing. It fit me perfectly, I was amazed. Sometimes I’ll go into my closet just to look at it. I’m in love. I want to wear it to my wedding :P

My favorite vintage item is a navy blue pea coat. I found it in my grandparents’ basement when I was cleaning for them. It turned out to be my grandpa’s coat from when he was in the navy in the 50s. I had to sew a few holes in it, but it wasn’t a big deal. And it had these super cute navy blue buttons on it, but a few were missing. So I found some awesome bright red buttons with anchors on them and put those on. They are so cute. Oooh I love Modcloth!
Well, that’d have to be a tie between a dress and a bag of jewelry. As a busy, enemployed fifteen-year-old student, I rarely have money to spare for fashion — quite the tragedy, as it’s such an important medium of self-expression to me! So naturally, I was absolutely thrilled to find a vintage and nearly unscathed black designer dress for $30 at a thrift store on Haight street! The dress is glamorous and versatile, and when I wear it with red lips and winged liner, it makes me feel like I’m channeling Audrey Hepburn!
My other vintage treasure is the heavy bag of jewelry that was passed on to me by my grandma. Going through it is an adventure in its own, and finding ways to wear the heavy, unusual pieces with modern clothing is an even bigger one.
I love vintage so much, because never will you find someone else with the exact same garment — never!

My favourite vintage find is a pair hot pink kitten heel shoes with diamante bows on the front. There’s no saying where they came from or who owned them and I’m not usually one for buying second hand shoes but they are incredible, magical even… words really can’t explain.
I have never seen anything like them and they were worth every single cent I paid for them. They were bought from Ziggurat in Wellington NZ. Haikus should be written about these babies.

I wish I have a picture of it, but it was an orange leather coat I had when I was young. It used to be my grandmother’s, but since she used to be a lot tinier than I am, it fit perfectly when I was around eleven. The lining was a nice red-orange, and it had small little pockets with little orange buttons. Also, it gave me a perfect hourglass shape (which would make any stick of a girl suddenly feel glamorous).
Unfortunately, when I became a teenager I grew taller and curvier, and that jacket no longer fit. So my orange leather coat has been retired. It’s still my all-time favorite though (and I’m still searching for an awesome replacement).

I got this 40’s esque funeral hat at Goodwill. It velvet, with velvet roses and a satin ribbons to tie a bow under your chin, and a black lace veil, too! It was originally $4 and they had a “sale”; 50% off! It is by far the best $2 I have ever spent.

My favorite vintage find is this adorable tuxedo sweater, it even has little black cuff links…http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage&friendID=74151465&albumID=44274&imageID=35331675
When I graduated school, I had to wait a few months to get my license, so I wasn’t working. My mom has been selling her wonderful vintage finds on e-Bay for about 10 years and suggested I do the same for a few months. She loaded me up with stuff she had gotten great deals on, but didn’t have time to sell. This sweater was so darling, I had to keep it for myself. I wore it on Halloween with tights, fishnets, bloomers and heels as a cabaret dancer, I wore it to my kids school concert with black leggings and boots, and I wore it on Christmas day with the same purple dress, and violet hair. This is the only sweater I have EVER worn that I feel cute and comfortable in.

A beautiful pair of knee-high black leather boots. they were on a $25 rack at the St Vinnies in a tiny little country town, I didn’t think they’d fit me because my feet are gargantuan (Australian ladies size 11), but they were perfect! And they looked brand new!
Best of all, when I took them to the counter, the woman said “Oh no, we can’t charge you $25 for these!”
I was a little disappointed, until she added…
“That’ll be $5″.

there is no way i could pick just one favourite vintage find, but here is one memorable item :) –
1- I had been working at a charity shop all day and when i was about to leave my co-worker brought out some more vintage jewellery for us to display; right before i left i spied a ship on a necklace, for about £2 and just bought it without really looking at it. Later i examined this find and saw that it was a silver pendant with a beautiful ship engraved on one side and a working compass on the other!! Amazing!

Oh my goodness, Doe. Over 150 comments – on the same day! Clearly you are doing something very right with your lovely blog!
I love all these entries. My favorite vintage find is a sterling silver bow ring I bought for $6 at a thrift/vintage store in a nearby New Jersey by-the-sea town. This particular piece of jewelry is clearly welded to my soul as I have lost it, in the three years I’ve had it, in numerous places such as FIT in NYC, Disney World in Florida, and many times in other states and by the Jersey shore. Yet, it always comes back to me somehow!
Also, the irony of me finding it was that for the longest time I was looking for a bow ring – though the style is popular by the likes of Betsey Johnson and other designers and chain retailers now, they were quite hard to find a few years ago! So one day I just walked in and there it was! Gleaming up at me in the glass case it was in, nestled inbetween Southwestern turqouise jewelry and 20’s flapper pearl beaded necklaces.
I bought it and ever since I have worn it on the same finger every day. I don’t care if it doesn’t even match my outfit every day – it stays on like a tatoo. I have even refused boyfriend(s) wanting to engrave it for me, and I also refuse to have it shined or professionally cleaned, because it would ruin the special vintage feel and I know that this particular item is greedily all mine!
It’s a precious little piece of my identity. :)

I have no idea if it classifies as vintage, but my favourite item bought from one such shop would be a pair of ivory court heels I got at Good Sammy’s. They were obviously worn at a wedding in a previous life and I was thrilled to find that they were my size! All that and they were only $2! I love thinking about their previous adventures, who wore them, how they were probably only worn once and where they were worn. My mother was mortified when I brought them home (white court shoes were only EVER supposed to be worn by Minnie Mouse!) but I loved them. Unfortunately, my feet have since grown and they are now too small for me. But that doesn’t stop me from wearing them to places where I don’t have to keep them on for long! (ie. my op-shop party that I held last month!)

My favorite vintage item is my mother’s wedding dress. I know it sounds cliche to pick it, but my mother got married back in 1973 and the dress definitely reflected the era! My mother didn’t have a lot of money to buy a dress, but she was very talented so she wore a solid white slip and crocheted her entire wedding dress! It is all white, tight around the bust and flows out from an empire waist. The bust is solid (no eyelets or holes), but the rest of the dress has flowery and pretty crocheted designs all throughout…oh and don’t forget the hippy bell sleeves! I love the dress and hope to someday wear it to my wedding!

A white hippie dress from the 60s that I found at the salvation army in 2005. It’s from a old Sydney brand called “Be My Little Sugar”. I tried it on at the salvation army but because I have boobs way too big for my body the dress wouldn’t zip all the way up. I was very upset and a week after I tried it on my mum went back and bought it and suprised me with it. it still doesn’t fit but I’m thinking of doing some ribbon stapping things on the back.

My boyfriend had seen the dress through his history on his computer and ended up buying it for me and giving it to me as a gift to wear on Valentines Day!! It was so beautiful and I was so happy. I had my mother alter it to fit me right away and I had a great night and received many compliments on it. I love it :)

My favourite vintage find, is a piece that really means alot to me. I’ve always loved pearls, but hated the cheap look of fake pearls, but being a student couldn’t afford real pearls.
When I hit 18 my Mum presented me with a box of real pearl necklaces. Including one that was a string of 3, with a side tie of a diamond and gold clasp. They had belonged to my great-grandmother, and had been a present from her husband to her in the 40’s. My family had kept them, and when I was born she had told my Nanna and Mother that I would love them one day, so to keep them in perfect condition for me.
They are absolutely beautiful and any opportunity I get I wear them, having a family heirloom, from a period time I love is so wonderful. I always get comments about how unusual the 3-string is and it makes me incredibly proud to say my great-grandfather bought them for my great-grandmother.

A yellow floral babydoll dress from the 70’s that I got off Etsy. I think it used to be floor-length, but someone cut a jagged knee-length hem before it found its way to me. I was hesitant to buy it at first because it’s a very pale yellow and I have fair skin, so I was afraid it would make me look like a corpse. I finally gave in and bought it on impulse, and it’s now my favorite dress.

I have so many favorites & the top ten is forever changing.
However this vintage suede & fur trim coat was one of those buys that made me feel good for a long time afterwards, not only is it a vintage gem & completely stunning on, it cost less than a tenner too.
The dress was also a vintage bargain from a car boot sale.

My favorite vintage find is a bright orange polyester double-knit 60’s coat with brass buttons, a tiny plaid print, and made in Tel Aviv! I found it as a teenager for about 3 dollars in a giant thrift store. I thought it was the most hilarious thing ever, but SURELY it was far too hideous to ever wear! Fortunately I held onto it until I was older and much more bold with my fashion choices!

I have three favorites.
One is a wonderful plaid hat that, honestly isn’t amazing in and of itself, but I love it because my dad used to wear it, and the colors in it are great.
The second is a pinstriped navy suit jacket that I got at a neat little vintage shop in Sacramento and wore with a corset-style bodice and a full length, billowy satin skirt, a fedora, and long costume pearls when I finally got up the courage to ask a guy to our Winter formal my Senior year. I felt pretty awesome.
Third is the ’50s or ’60s miniature jewelry amoire that my boyfriends mother gave me for my 20th birthday. She and I had seen this gorgeous little black, asian style armoire while out thrifting, but I didn’t want to buy it because i had no way to get it back to California with me. Not only did she buy it for me, but she shipped it for me too!

This is a difficult question! I always buy second-hand, so all of my favorite things are thrifted…hm I believe my favorite would be this poofy sheer blue tutu-like skirt I bought for .50 cents at a thrift store some time back. It has soft tight blue fabric that zips to the wais, and tiered folds of stiff neon-blue fabric radiating down to a couple of inches above my knee. I fantasize that it was used in circuses of old, who knows, right? It does seem rather old and the tag is written in french. I wear it with patterned tights and clunky shoes and feel like some trippy fairy dancer. I just need a tight rope!

My most serendipitous vintage find was a billowy suede jacket. It’s a cold gray color and has a silk brocade of Asian-inspired flowers and birds.
I randomly found it on a busy rack in a musty, nondescript secondhand store. It was understandably pricey, and you can bet I lived on pasta and rice for the next two months. The label said Roberto Cavalli, and I wondered if it was authentic. So I showed it to a vintage expert, and it must be from one of his early collections in the 1970’s. Cavalli was noted for his work in textiles, and it really shows in the jacket. It’s so special and delicate, I haven’t even found the right occasion to wear it yet!

I wouldn’t say finding it in a vintage store, but I did find this in my grandmother’s closet. Its a Mexican Peasant Shirt, with the embroidered flowers on it. My Grandmother had made it before she moved to the United States with my father in 1955. I love it, because not only does it have sentimental value, but it looks good when I pair it with a peasant skirt or jeans and sandals. My other vingate (closet) finds were my uncle’s dog tags, hat and jacket. My Uncle was in the Army, and saw Persian Gulf. For unknown reasons, he killed himself when I was little. But around my junior year in high school, I discovered his old fatigues, and his dog tags in a trunk with my mother’s things. These are probably my most precious possesions, behind the teddy bear he had given me when I was little. This is my normal clod weather wear (I live in Texas), this makes me feel closer to him, even after all these years since his death. It always reminds me of the days we would spend coloring.

My favorite vintage find was in a shop in Telluride, Colorado. I have always had troubles finding shoes I like and can wear because I had bunions for most of my life. But, I figured, eh, I’m gonna look at the shoes. So I looked at the small collection and I saw them. Gorgeous, antique black velvet lace-up Victorian boots. “These will never fit me!” I thought. They looked too small and I almost left them. But on a whim I decided, what the hell? And tried them on. They fit like a glove!
These shoes have been with me since my Freshman year in high school and I love them more than anything else. I’ve worn them in plays and on Halloween, worn them at parties, photoshoots, just around, and to countless costumed gatherings. I’ve been Mrs. Lovett (Sweeney Todd), Bellatrix Lestrange (Harry Potter), Anne Boleyn, Mrs. Ubu (The Ubu Plays) and Nancy (Oliver Twist) in them.
They’re my favorite. Hence the reason I brought them all the way from Minnesota to New York for college. Best part? Every time I wear them out I feel sexy, confident, and always manage to get a complement on them.

It was on the corner of an otherwise empty street but the treasures inside were beautiful, with animals and birds made of silver and jewels as well as gorgeous necklaces and other jewellery. The ring’s silver and thick, with a pink “rough cut ruby” set in the middle of it. I absolutely love it, it suits me down to a tee and it fit me the very minute I put it on. The woman has a garland tied around her head and is in this deep purple robe thing. She’s sitting on a bench. What makes her special is that my great grandmother had a figurine from the same set which unfortunately went to my sister. thrift stores and vintage is not very big in Australia. Usually the old stuff turns out just to be old stuff worn by elderly people and therefore is hard to fit well on a young person especially with my mum telling me to ‘dress my age’. But you know what? that never stopped me. A while ago i went to many different charity shops to buy some second hand clothes and had a ball, and instead of wearing them straight off i did reconstruction on the clothing and made some delightful “New” clothes. my favourite old/new clothes i made was my deep red velour/velvety corset with gemstone flowers of red and gold petals with beading made from an old deep red velour dressing gown and a dark red and gold weaved skirt wrap.
ah, what a find!

:]
My first Packer jersey I ever had, was a vintage find.
Robert Brookes.
He stopped playing in 1998, when I was a mere seven years old.
This jersey will always be dear to me.

My favorite thrifted item is a faux fur coat I bought last spring at a vintage shop in Chicago. I had just seen one of my friends who had been out of the country for a year and we were walking and taking in the city. Every time I wear it, it reminds me of that day and feeling.
I call it my Margo Tenenbaum coat: http://www.flickr.com/photos/afriendlymonster/2988970535/in/set-72157608536946778/

I have a silver lace slip skirt that I found for only $5! I found it when I was in high school and paired it with black stompy boots and a black shirt that had a picture of Bridget Bardot on it with the word “glamour” at the bottom. I was so angsty, but it was my favorite outfit and I secretly wear the same outfit now ;)

I found my favorite vintage piece in Sacramento too! It’s a big poofy lime green petticoat. I love it and it was only $10. I wore it to my grandparents’ 60th wedding anniversary, underneath a polka dot dress.

My favorite vintage piece would thus far be my black and grey 70s-80s dress. It has a grey vertical line goind down the side and shoulder pads. But the shoulder pads are actually flattering and not distracting. I love wearing it :) Found it at a recycled clothing store in Georgia.

This green polyester dress I found in Savers. It was originally a Mod maxi style dress but it was too long for me since I’m short. I loved the collar, colors and pattern so I decided to purchase it. I managed to get it tailored to the knees and the hems inside all serged since it was all frayed. It’s now a perfect fit except for the shoulders which is still a little too wide.

My favorite thrift find is actually a recent one! I spend alot of time in thrift stores, I’ve purchased, many dresses, skirts, shirts, jeans, even shoes from thrifts but nothing has ever come close to This.
It is a lime green jumpsuit with blue hologram sequins all over it and pink trip with purple hologram sequins on that. It was $3.95 and it was literally the only thing that I had tried on that fit, it was meant to be. That jumpsuit was supposed to be mine, I really love the thing, one day I will have an entire outfit, including shoes accessories make-up&hair.
It really is the best thrift find I’ve ever managed.

MY favorite vintage find has been the drapes I found for my art room-big gold and yellow brocade patterned drapes that go from floor to ceiling and includes a gold fringed valance. They were in someone’s grandma’s house. My grandma says they were the thing to have in the 50’s.

My favorite vintage find has, alas, gotten away from me, but I had it from age 10-18! It was a floor-length ivory under-dress type thing, with a bodice that laced in the back, very slender straps and a floaty skirt. It reminded me of my mother’s wedding dress and think I paid about ten dollars for it. I wore it to be Ophelia in a class play when I was ten and kept it with me for YEARS -somehow, it always fit perfectly even as I got older and taller. I last wore it at its full length, at age 15, to play Kate in a Bohemian production of Taming of the Shrew. (It looked extra cool because I wore my wedding veil with a sparkly black top hat!)
After that, I cut some of the skirt off and wore it over my second favorite vintage find:, a black tulle Jessica McClintock skirt. The top hat often accompanied this outfit, and the black and cream combo was to die for!
Sadly, the black skirt was thrown away by my mother when it started to get ragged around the bottom (so just when it was getting really good :C) and I suspect the dress went the same way….D:

My favorite vintage find?
Oh, defenitly those pretty shoes!:
http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj60/melanchorinista/IMG_1393.jpg
So magical, feminine and delicate, they make me feel like an a fairytale princess on a casual shopping trip to the city!
It was love at first sight and they are the most cheapest shoes I ever owned (5Euro!)!
Unfortunatly they are a tad too small so I can’t wear them for a long time but aawww, I love those so much and get the best compliments when I wear them. ;D

I was shopping at a local vintage shop’s warehouse. It was pretty picked-over and much of what was left was in sad shape. However, while trying something on in the dressing room, I was intrigued by a flash of red in the ‘discard’ pile. A red velvet dress!
The dress is exceedingly glamorous and has a provocative look due to the seams. The main seam in front cuts under the breasts and secondary seams come up from the outer lower edge of each breast to the nipple. It creates this amazingly perky pointy-nipple look in combination with demure full coverage up to the collarbone.
The back is much lower and features a red satin fall topped with a red satin rose and a couple red satin leaves. I adore this dress and because the velvet was crushed in places, I got it for $10. A friend helped me fluff the velvet back out. I tell you, this thing is radiant! It reaches out to your eyes and screams, “I am sweet and innocent! And, hey, check out these tatas!” I really love it.

I have a couple but I think my favorite vintage find would have to be my blue, red, and cream striped wool tights. They’re German made I believe… I think they’re from the 70s too. They add a nice pop of color to a boring winter outfit. Too hot for summer though.
Another would be a vintage cameo pin I found at the Salvation Army for 50 cents. It’s pink and white and goes pretty well with a formal coat or cardigan.
And I don’t know if it’s vintage but I got this really funky weird pretzel pin from my great grandma. It’s obviously made to look like a pretzel but it’s clover shaped. I’m in love with it…

The most treasured thing I bought at a vintage shop was my prom dress, its a black shift dress with a jewelled neckline from the 1960’s and makes me feel amazing on. However it didn’t fit in time for prom, and I ended up wearing it for my Aunts funeral because she never got to see it on in life, but absolutely loved it.
I also wore it to the first proper date with my now current boyfriend :-)Its a fantastic dress, I should wear it more.

My favourite find was from Pop Boutique in London. It was an old black wool jumper with a bright green and black houndstooth pattern on the front! I ADORED it and wore it straight away, even though it still had cat hairs all over it from its previous home! I wore it so much it got holes which i stitched up till it got more holes! Alot of people thought it was ugly but I loved it. I wish I still had it!!

I hope this doesn’t screw up my entry but I have two favorite finds. I found them in a thrift store and I think their gorgeous. I had just turned 14 and for about 4 or 5 months I had been introduced into the world of style blogs. And reading them, many talked about finding cool vintage finds in thrift stores. And trust me, they were, EPICLY cool! Young and excited, I asked my mom when we went in town for my birthday if we could go thrifting. She said yes, and when we got their I was, to tell the truth a bit disappointed. There wasn’t much to find, most of the stuff was tacky and old lady like. Until I spotted two things on racks. The first was a grey wool beret, very much french poet style and the second was a fitted black velvet blazer. They fit me perfectly and I showed them to my mom who said the label on the blazer was from a store that had been around in the fifties. Same with the beret. Delighted, I walked out of the thrift shop with new-found happiness in buying there. Keep in mind, fourteen, trying to find my own style and self. It was a pretty big step for me, since most of the kids in my school are deeply embedded in trends. Thanks for reading. Oh, shouts out, I LOVE your blog!

My favorite vintage find was a bright blue leather purse from the 80s that I found at a Salvation Army thrift store next to my high school. I still remember I paid $15 for it, which was a lot for a thrift store- but I used it till it had holes in it.
I loved how huge it was . . . I could put everything in it! It had tons of brass zippers all over it. My friends at school loved the color; they called it “toy blue” because it was that screaming royal blue color that baby toys often come in.
I recently saw one on etsy just like it for $60.
Ahhhh . . . I miss my blue purse . Rest in peace, old friend.

OOh! I love Modcloth!! My best vintage find was definately my wedding dress. I looked everywhere: david’s bridal, pat catans, all the bridal shops and could not find a thing!! out of exasperation, I ended up in a vintage shop in a not-so-nice area. Seriously tucked back in the racks was the loveliest black and white gown ever! Its got white on the bodice and a white panel flowing through the middle. It fit me perfectly and totally went with my theme!! I had this pill box hat with black netting picked out like 2 years before i even got married and was so happy to find a dress that matched :o) I have to say I still wonder about who wore it before me though!

My favorite vintage object is a prom dress. I went shopping with my mother and sister in Amsterdam. We went to a vintage shop, and by accident we ended up in the basement of the shop. There were like hundreds of dresses, but I couldn’t find something REALLY stunning.
Suddenly, a black and white dress caught my eye. I loved it immediately, but I thought it would be too big for me. My mother said I should try it on, so I did. And it fitted perfectly. I felt like a princess and kept the dress on for like 15 minutes, walking around the shop. I decided me finding the perfect dress had to be faith.
I wore it twice to my schoolprom, and I never received so many compliments before :D

hm… that’s a hard one. i think it’d have to be my wool coat. it goes down to my shins and has a half-belt (which really flatters my figure) and a cute little collar perfect for putting brooches on. it was $5 and i’ve had it as my winter coat for years. whenever i wore it i felt like a princess! i didn’t wear it this year because i’ve lost a dramatic amount of weight and it hangs like a tent on me, but i’m giving it to a friend and hopefully she’ll love it as much as i have!
oh, & another is a beautiful turquoise ring which i yanked from my mother. i’d cry if i lost it; it’s absolutely beautiful and probably worth far more than i can afford.

My absolute favorite vintage piece are my purple Ninas from the 70’s. I wore these for my senior prom two years ago and everyone commented on them. Many said that they looked like they were from the 70’s and, well, that’s because they were. They were a dark, cool purple with semi-open toes and dainty heels. Very cute.
Where’d I get them? My mother. She has the best fashion sense and her style back in the day was amazing. She saved a lot of her clothes and shoes for me. It’s so fortunate that we’re the same size.

I am going to have to agree with you; my favorite vintage fashion find is a coat.
Having just moved to Ohio from California, I found myself in need of a good cold-weather coat for my new surroundings, so I visited a local vintage and antiques shop I’d never been to, hoping it would have something suitable. Did it ever! I found a GORGEOUS asymmetrically buttoned, knee-length, wide-lapel flared coat in a stunning khaki/olive green color with brass buttons that went with all of my clothing. Additionally, the coat is authentically from the 1940s, and had the most gorgeous embroidered initials on the inside right: “MMS.” In addition to the gorgeous brushed cotton exterior (smooth enough to repel snow, but not be damaged by it!), it had a gorgeous copper silk lining AND a layer of woven wool between the silk and the cotton! It’s so warm and heavyweight, and so perfectly styled, and the most gorgeous color…. I was in heaven. Not to mention it cost me $32!!! I can’t really think of anything MORE perfect. I wear it ALL the time, and always get compliments.

My favorite vintage clothing I’ve found isn’t something I brought in a shop – it in fact came from my mother’s wardrobe.
My mother used to be an opera singer, which I always thought was pretty neat. She had many costumes and outfits to wear at formal parties and such. Looking into this wardrobe, it’s abundant with the sleeve cuts and square padded shoulders that was so 80s :) My absolute favorite amongst them though is a light purple 3/4 sleeve blazer with a detatchable flowered collar design – the classic 80s look, very lady GaGa-esque ;) I don’t get a chance to wear it often, but when I do I love it to pieces :D

By far my favorite is this blue, cropped jacket I found at Goodwill for $6. I was actually shopping for a Mrs. Peacock inspired outfit for a Clue themed dinner party and when I put this on my husband was sort of appalled and said, “You’re not actually going to wear that, are you?” Granted, I was wearing a red t-shirt that clashed fabulously with it. But that jacket has proven useful even outside of mystery dinner parties. I love the challenge of finding things to pair this shocking blue (really, the picture doesn’t do it justice) jacket with.

The cocktail hat that I refreshed and wore to my wedding is one (it was bought at auction and I was told it was from the 1930’s). An upclose of me on my wedding day.

My favourite vintage find is a blue and white tartan coat/dress. It has a giant pointed collar, a tapered waist and a full skirt that goes mid-shin. It did have double breasted gold buttons that went all the way down, but they were the first things to go.
I found it in my Nan’s wardrobe when she was doing a clear out, and I had to have it. I still haven’t worn it out though, and I’ve had it over over 10years. I think it is from the late 60’s.

Mine would be the skirt in this image http://elftown.com/stuff/skirtnboots.jpg
I fund it in the Vintage shop in Digbeth, Birmingham, UK for £3. It’s a really comfortable, multi-purpose skirt, and while it is nicely understated and not-in-your-face, people notice it and comment on it. I’ve had conversations start because of the skirt :)
Also the boots in the picture are most awesome ever, they are East Germany/DDR army surplus, back from the day before they had laces. I just think the boots go with anything and for any occasions, and accordingly I wear them everywhere.

A diamonte ring i found laying around my house, it turns out my mother’s older brother bought it for my grandmother (his mother) when he was 6, insisting he was marrying her (not in a creepy way, but because he never wanted to leave her side!) It has a gold band and shines like a real diamond, despite the fact its fake and over 50 years old! Its beautiful, and very sentimental.

A haiku on my favorite vintage find:
Pink and silver love
Shimmers with every movement
Who the hell owned you?
Back in college I found an AMAZING strapless dress at Salvation Army for $5. I had no idea what I would wear it for, but it was one of those things that was so fabulous I had to own it anyway. 2 years later it’s been worn to dances, as a Halloween costume and even on a day when I sat home alone, just to cheer myself up. I wish I knew who originally owned it- they must have been the most stylin’ person in the 80’s!

I wore it on one of my holidays to Tokyo with a mini Beehive and got alot of Head Turns.. which in Tokyo i felt a bit special.. One of my favourite memories was dancing on Table at a Karaoke Bar singing along to “Love Shack”. I wear it to go shopping, to buy paint at a hardware store, going to the Beach.. My Mom blames the weathermen…okay, enough babbling.
My favorite vintage piece of clothing I have is a dress from the hippie days. An old woman me and my mom used to take care of made it herself for a hippie march…or maybe it was a yippie march.
