New Trend: mismatched shoes
Category: Style Diary

As I have tweeted earlier, shoe matching is so yesterday! Let’s face it: where’s the fun in rocking two shoes that look exactly alike?! I love mismatching accessories – shoes, socks, ear-rings, gloves. The trick is to get pieces of similar color intensity that go well together otherwise. In other words, don’t do dark blue and neon green unless your job description includes juggling and wearing an orange wig. ;)

This weekend I got not one, but TWO pairs of shoes. They are identical, except one is sea-foam green and the other lemony-yellow. I love the material they are made of – rubbery/foamy substance called EVA. I feel like a space-age princess wearing them. :)

I love this idea of mismatched shoes…I’ve done it with Converse before, but never with any other type of shoe.
I may just have to copy you :D

I’ve been forced, over the years, to wear mismatched socks. As soon as I decided that I wasn’t going to wear plain white tube socks anymore and wear cute ones, one of the pair always disappears! My favorite mismatched socks (that I always wear together) are a Halloween sock that’s orange and black striped with ghosts that have googly eyes and a Christmas sock that’s white with red/green thin stripes and a red-nosed outline reindeer!

I always rocked mismatched shoes as a kid – as well as mismatched socks and clothes – got teased a lot but would come to work at a elementary school where the girl who could rock this look was the most sought-after ;) How times change. I love these shoes; I’m so sad there isn’t a store here on the West Coast to try on a pair!

Love those shoes! Too bad they still contain a leather strap. If they didn’t I would so want them. Very cool!

I’m really into headbands right now. I shaved my head back in December so it’s still pretty short and in that awkward growing-out phase, so headbands are a good way to make it look cute and camouflage the awkward.

It sounds funny, but I’ve been starting trends with my students >.> My problem at school is to maintain my rock-ish lifestyle but not look matronly at school. So I wear bright colors (I used your sheer LimeCrime eye colors: Fairy Wings, Snow Queen, Nymph, Crystal Ball and because of my skin color Diva for school). So this gives me a natural look!
As for clothes, I tend to make my own jewelry, and I had gotten some chain from HomeDepot on sale, and stringed that with fake black pearls (with matching bracelet!) and some cute cheap converse TEACHING shoes from Payless, and paired it with a business casual outfit (slack from the Limited in Cassidy Fit, black & white striped shirt and a black or white jacket with a nymph or diva eyeshadow and brown liner, and straight hair pulled into a low pony tail). When I got to school, I knew my kids would ask me about my jewelry, but to my amazement several days later, some of my students and their friends were dressed similar to me! and made their own jewelry themselves! I was shocked. But hey, at least they’re not looking disheveled right? :-p
So here’s to the teachers starting trends in high school all over again!

How fun! Camper makes shoes that are slightly/intentionally mismatched and I’ve loved that line for years.

I don’t like matching things, either, so I fully support this new trend! =D

Those shoes look like a beautiful cousin of the croc! I hope you didn’t take that offensively because they are fantastic! They look super comfy too.
I used to mis-match my socks all the time. When wearing pants I felt like such a sneak, hehehe.

For me right now it’s all about meaning and intent. Jewelry with religious intent, a shirt that is meant to make someone thing. Mismatched gloves so people ask why and then knowing why I picked what I did.
I used to wear mismatched socks all the time and was told it was deliciously fae.

That’s interesting….
:) I like mismatching ear rings, but shoes? Hmmm maybe some sneackers, but sandals, bo?

love the mismatch. I’m loving grey shades of nail polished teamed up with accessories of a brilliant color. turquoise, that neon violet, and other intense colors of that nature. the grey is almost like my new neutral.

My ‘thing’ at the moment is socks, leggings, and the like.
I live very close to the Sock Dreams store and end up spending a lot of money there.
I mismatch my socks and layer them. I’m really dissapointed that summer is coming cause it will soon be much to hot to do so.

Im a bit crazy about naming my outfits…i think ive mentioned it before somewhere…i love thinking of a “role”,a side of my personality, to match my outfit and my activities of every day!!!
“candy ballerina” is my latest favorite…
it has everything to do with my pink tutu-like skirt, white-pink trriped knee high socks and plain white tank top, pink satin ribbon in my hair and girly make up!

Steampunk/Victoriana has been my thing for a couple years now and it’s been on the rise as a trend lately… I’m not sure how I feel about that, but it does pretty much guarantee some good thrift shop finds in a year’s time!

lately I’ve really like ribbons tied in a loose bow around my neck, as well as any clothing with a ribbon on it :) I usually dress with pants and shirts, so it’s a nice dash of femininity. plus ribbons are just fun to play with.

Fab look – if I could afford two pairs of the same shoe I’d be all go – but what I really swung by to say was utterly fabulous shoes! I’m not usually a drool over every shoe type of a girl, but they are simply marvellous… top of my lust list! Argh! Just clicked through to United Nude Shoes website & their heels are unreal! …I get paid on Friday… I think I see a pair of those Mono Janes in my future… <3

I love that idea of mismatching shoes… I’ve done it with Converse, for sure! And with Vans flats, you know because of the different patterns besides the clasic squares!
I also mismatch socks… Always!!!
Earrings are also a must-have-mismatched-some-time-in-your-life.
A trend I’ve always loved are the so called “grandpa pants”. Not sure how you call it in English… You know, the Scottish prints… I just love it! :D

Was thinking the same thing as Kim. You should’ve mismatched the toe nail polish too. :P Hmm.. I’ve never mismatched shoes before. Maybe I’ll try it out.
My style has always been this balance of femine and masculine clothing. I love this gender mixing(?) style.

But I do love those shoes, that is such a pretty color of sea foam. :D

I’ve been on the lookout for awesome boots in a few bright colors so that I can do this. Unfortunately boots are expensive, besides that it’s hard to find brightly colored ones! Dilemma! So far I just always wear different socks and six different earrings. Sans hoops I’ve never worn matching earrings.

Haha! We’ve been mismatching shoes since like last year. It’s practically old here. XDD
We usually trade shoes with other people with similar sizes. It’s REALLY fun. :)
But my favorite trend would have to be the “cute” trend, I loveee Hello Kitty and anything Japanese! <33

Wild, long hair! I’ve got wild, long, two-tone hair, that’s hippie but (I hope) edgy! It’s quite wild (I’ve been told like Janis Joplin’s)

My thing is not dressing like anyone else. No one else was brave enough to wear it? I’ll try it on. I can’t wait to get my hands on some of those Ali Baba pants!
Mismatched shoes already happened here but with flip flops and Converse.
I’m not really a fan of mismatching things that come in pairs. That may just be my OCD talking but it drives me NUTS!
The shores are cool but I can’t see myself ever wearing something like that. They look too much like Crocs.

My current thing is stuffing as many petticoats under my skirts as will physically fit… bloomers, too. (WHAT? It’s WINDY here!) And skull-and-crossbone necklaces.
For years I’ve only worn earrings in my right ear (That way if I ever lose one, I still have it’s sister.) I was told that was a very “piratey” thing to do. So I’ll continue.
I would high-five you for your choice of shoes, but the Atlantic’s in the way.

I actually got them at a HUGE discount ($30 a pair!) at this designer discount store called Century 21. If you’re ever in the area, you should check it out!

What a neat idea! :D I remember wearing mismatched shoes once before, when I was in grade school. It was “Mismatch Day,” so I wore a white cowboy boot on one foot and a sneaker on the other.
I’m transitioning between favorite trends right now. For about a month, I really embraced menswear. I wore suspenders, vests, and mens’ hats a lot, and I definitely raided the boyfriend’s closet pretty often! Now, I’m really into full skirts and floppy hats. :D

My lasting style is hats and high heels (preferably boots). I love them and have about a billion! Currently, though, I’m starting to really get into the steampunk/steamwestern thing, and it’s loads of fun!
Also, I love the colors you chose for the heels. Very retro-50’s pastel. I wish I could buy a pair, but even if they had my size, I’m just a poor student… :(

That’s cute and all, and I love taking huge fashion risks, but I don’t think it’s working. Everything matches perfectly (the dress, the hair, the bag, tha makeup), and then there’s that yellow shoe. :/

i used to do this all the time when i was 18… if they were high heeled pumps i used to buy ribbons the same colour as each shoe and tie them round the opposite shoes so they co-ordinated cos i was a bit mental on the ol’ matchy matchy-ness back then!

This reminds me of the story about Barbra Streisand’s audition for “Funny Girl.” She walked in wearing a kooky thrift-store outfit including mismatched shoes, and talking a mile a minute about how she found them. Her personality and style (and her great voice) wowed the auditioners and won her the role that made her a star!
