Tales of the Unicorn Queen

New York Couture mastermind Cassie & I go way back. In 2004, we were starting-out designers promoting on LiveJournal. I went into makeup, she pursued a career in fashion, and what do you know? Now she throws parties at Webster Hall and invites me as a sponsor!

The show was incredible. Inspired by cupcakes and unicorns (yes!), it was an endless flow of frilly dresses, candy colors, incredible hair and makeup and many gorgeous girls… You can see photos from the actual show here, but here’s some backstage action from my own camera!

Me & New York Couture model posing for press. One of my favorite outfits from the show.

Who said models don’t eat?!

Cassie of New York Couture

Raquel Reed requires no introduction. <3

Makeup crew. They loved Lime Crime by the way and were SHOCKED by how pigmented the lipsticks are!! As for me, I could just eat them…

Magic Dusts & lipsticks scattered across the table. Lippies are still in sample tubes – and New York Couture models already got to rock them on the runway!

Sarah of Ultraviolet Sound rocks a glittery heart on her face. I got to meet the guys from UVS and they were all incredibly nice! Sarah and I hit it off and are talking possible collaboration.

Mark doing the Karl Lagerfeld. Was a huge hit with the press apparently, haha.

I met many fans at the event – you guys are wonderful! If you got any pictures from the night, please post them! Leaving Webster Hall in the wee hours of the morn felt like we just got hit with a sack full of star dust. Thank you for a sparkly night, New York Couture!

  • That show looks like it was AMAZING! I’m an aspiring fashion designer and would love to one day put on a show that big with people that awe-inspiring.

I know that you probably get flatteing comments all the time. But people like you and Cassie and Shrinkle too, women who become successful on their own terms, are truly an inspiration!

  • Oops. I meant to say “flattering”. I know how to spell, I swear!

  • Rickey says:

  • Deere Doe,

Your amazing blog has inspired me to finally put myself out there give modeling a shot, like I’ve always wanted to. Your amazing style and adventures have made me feel like maybe there ARE other people like me, even in the exciting world of forward fashion. Like there’s a niche for me in the industry. Thanks you for having the courage to be exactly yourself, and for inspiring everyone to do the same. You’re my hero.

    Love,
    The Pauper in Pearls.

  • Kennedy says:

LOVE the bright colored busties with spikes sticking out. Hello inspiration!

  • Sinead says:

    Dear Doe,
I absolutely adore you and I read your blog all the time. I feel like your execution for this Candy Future idea isn’t up to par with your usual status of amazingness. This isn’t intended to be rude or bash you in any way, I’m just giving some constructive criticism. I think that this idea has so much potential in the costume department and I feel that it isn’t being realized. Everything could have been a lot more fierce. I think your birthday outfit for Candy Future worked best, I thought that was a fantastic piece altogether.
I hope you won’t take this the wrong way, you truly are one of my inspirations.
    <3 Sinead
