Love me because I’m plastic: Barbarella, the sex-robot.
Living in New York, you dedicate your lifetime to avoiding crowds. You almost have it down to an art form: you plan your trips around traffic, know never to go around tourist attractions, and avoid Time Square like the plague. But this year was different – a friend suggested we meet at the Halloween Parade in the West Village, and I took the bait.
I knew something was up when I saw a huge crowd that wasn’t moving at the subway station. Three police officers were directing human traffic – right side in, left side out. When I finally floated my way to the surface – that’s all you could do, let the crowd carry you – all I could see was a sea of costumed heads! The poor Brabarella was suddenly surrounded by Greek statues, live paintings (picture frame with a freak residing inside), Indiana Jones, and of course an army of ghosts, mummies, vampires! And presiding over the parade, was a giant marionette SPIDER, suspended from a bell tower!!!
I finally made my way out of the crowd to meet up with my sister and her friends around 7 o’clock on 5th Avenue, where we hung out and took some fun pictures!

I got to meet Thriller-era Michael Jackson!

Arseny as Vladimir Putin! Hahaha!

Random people on the street: soldier, pilot and Black Widow

Jesus H. Christ! He told you he’d be back.

Princess on a scooter. In the background: A pair of young clowns out on a romantic date.
Then we went to some office building on 6th Avenue and 10th Street, supposedly overlooking the parade. Turns out, it’s a DJ academy with a corner office entirely made of glass! So we partied in there, enjoying the view and the craziness of the parade without any physical interruption! I sat on the window, feet hanging down, and took pictures of the parade:

A band of angels

The marionette spider!!!!
In the meanwhile, at the Scratch DJ Academy…

This is what the space looked like! I almost gleed my pants right then and there!

Why, of course I DJ in my gloves. (photo by Kat)

Kat was a Black Hole

Hatter’s hat (I didn’t get to meet the actual Hatter though).

Barbarella flirting with Minnie Mouse – isn’t she cute!? ;)
And my favorite costume of the night… Queen Bitch!

Sometimes it feels like New York’s infamy is bigger than the city itself. When events like Gay Pride or Halloween Parade hit, it becomes the jam-packed citadel of chaos and excitement all at once. Halloween Parade attracts two million people yearly, and the procession lasts 4 hours, during which a non-stop flow of costumed troupes move down the 6th Avenue to the cheering of the crowd. I can’t believe I’d been avoiding this for years. What an unforgettable experience!

That sounds like it was fun… I love your barbarella costume- the glasses are so amazing!
I think Gala watched this from her place too.
Ohhh I wish I was there! It looked amazing… as you did too!

Unfortunately, Mark skipped Halloween this year. He had an important class that night he couldn’t miss. It’s ok, he’ll make up for it next year!
OMG LOOVEE your costume, man I wish I could’ve come out if my costume situation would’ve worked out and I wasn’t jet lagged from a late flight :/
keep up the amazing work girl!
You look great and that looks like an awesome time! I want to go next year! I think those clowns are actually Raggedy Ann & Andy.. I have some ancient wall plaques of them from childhood. That wig looks really good on you BTW, if I didn’t know it wasn’t real I might think it was. The Queen Bitch is super cute too! <3

Nice glasses, and I love the wig! i think next year I might do a wig.
Jesus is my friend!
No, seriously. I went to school with the kid dressed as Jesus! This is ridiculous!
oh i love your costume, you look fantastic… the dj photo is fab.
I was there too! :) Too bad I didn’t see you.
Ohhh I have been going to the Halloween Parade for the past two years and I always have the most fun on this one night and I always try to make an original costume. This year I went as the Ace of Hearts I found a necklace it is a long chain and it has a one inche white heart pendent on it. I ended up weaving the chain in my hair and let the heart hang on my left tempal. It was an amazing unforgetable night!!!
You look so much like Kate Moss on the first picture!! :O
