Tales of the Unicorn Queen

UPDATE: we decided to make Polyvore contests a monthly thing! Stay tuned!

There was a Polyvore contest going on and I completely forgot to announce it on the blog. :\ I feel like such a bonehead! Well – thanks for participating, whoever did find it! The challenge was to capture the essence of Candyfuture in a collage and among the 90+ entries, we’ve had everything from sweet, to kooky, to downright bizarre. :D All submissions without exception were absolutely magical and it was nearly impossible to pick a favorite. In the end, I went with this:

A sea of cupcakes, balloons, lipstick and a rainbow spilling over the edge? Yes please! This is exactly how I picture Candyfuture! Everyone did a fantastic job and if I could award everyone with a free lipstick, I would… Until then, there will be contests – about which I promise to report diligently from now on!

  • Suzanne C. says:

Oh they’re all so cool! I think the 5th place by Amykakes is my fave or maybe this I’m not sure but the 2nd place is pretty fantastic too. I really love most of them actually. I want to learn how to do that but I don’t think i have the programs for it on my pc.
    Congrats to the winner!

    Rickey Reply:

love the fifth place one, too.

  • Lynn O'Brien says:

Suzanne, you don’t need any programs to do these collages. Polyvore has all the pictures on there, as well as cropping, size manipulation and positioning. It is fun and addicting!!

I love all the entries, and I don’t envy you Doe having to choose just one out of 90! Hope to be in the next contest!

Thanks for the heads up! I might try it today.

  • Brinna says:

Wow the entries are amazing! Wish I had known, looks really fun!

Wow. I’m a little hurt actually. Loyal blog readers were left out of the contest unless we also happened to visit another site? That stinks.

Its a 2-way street in the blogosphere – you do your thing, Doe, and we visit, we tell you know much we love your style, and we even buy your products. You don’t owe us much – interesting posts and regular updates are enough keep me coming back. But I’d really think a bit more than “Well – thanks for participating, whoever did find it!” is a good response.

To me, you’ve trivialized my loyalty and participation in your site. If my presence here is unimportant to you, so be it. I just didn’t realize you were big enough to be that out of touch with real people already.

    Doe Deere Reply:

Again, I apologize for this mishap. My readers are, and always will be, the most important part of my blog. They are what keeps it interesting!

I promise there will be more contests in the future to participate it. xo

    Anissa, dramatic much?
She just went through a launch and getting new makeup out for you. Obviously, it seems you haven’t been here regularly enough. Doe, hurt her wrist and she was afraid of missing the lipstick launch and you complain about a silly [not that they are] little contest that she forgot? Honestly. Expanding her makeup line is more important than a contest. Give her a break, she’s a bit bus right now.

Yes, I was a little hurt too, but I sat back and realized how much she’s going through right now.

    anissa Reply:

Oh dramatic, maybe so. Would you expect any less from someone who loves playing dress-up with wild and creative makeup like this? Half this site is dedicated to dramatic cosmetics, events and even vignettes! Drama just happens!

Doe, thanks for taking a moment to respond. Some bloggers would probably just delete a disgruntled comment like mine, and that would be fine too. But yes, it did upset me. No, I’m not that important. But wait…yes I am! Girls in flashy makeup don’t want to feel overlooked is all! Its the natural order of things! :) Didn’t mean to offend you, but was feeling a little miffy is all.

    Alison Reply:

There is a difference between wanting to feel important and being egocentric. Six year olds are egocentric—they are supposed to be. You sound far too intelligent to be six. Unless you are experiencing a regression of a cognitive developmental stage, there is no excuse—flashy makeup or not—for egocentricities. You know, it’s just the natural order of things.

It is unfortunate that Doe forgot to inform her readers of the contest, but it happens. She is a very talented blogger, makeup artist, and entrepreneur. That does not, however, make her super-human. As it is, she provides opportunities for her readers to win things all the time: the monthly Doe Deere Box of Delights, writing contests, sweepstakes, etc. At least she was honest with her readers. I think people have a tendency to build up those who they view highly and to even, at times, expect unrealistic perfection from them. It is not fair to Doe for us to expect that she be perfect all the time.

    anissa Reply:

Big words make you sound smart and superior, right Allison? No, I’m neither six years old nor am I regressing. How about you? Because that’s the mature response to a complaint – to be catty and try to belittle me with a mean-spirited reply.

I doubt I’m the only one who was disappointed, and its obvious from my post that I am pretty well over it. If you missed that in my followup post, the subtlety was apparently lost on you.

But its fine to take a few cheap shots at psychoanalyzing my brief post if it serves you in some way. It says a whole lot more about you than it says about me.

    Rickey Reply:

    Will you two cut it?

    Suzanne C. Reply:

Hey lay off Anissa You may be right about Doe and her life being chaotic lately. I understand both sides but anissa and anyone else has a right to be upset and express it appropriately which I think she did. There’s no need to interfere. That’s why I didn’t say anything until now. If you want to play games go to myspace. This is ridiculous. It should have been between them Doe can stick up for herself. She apologized that was supposed to be the end of it. AHHH! DO NOT REPLY I”M DONE HERE.

I love going to polyvore and creating sets, in fact I have a group of sets that feature you Doe. But I’ve been off it for a couple of months and I just recently started making sets again. Unfortunately, I found out about this contest a little too late. =( I went on polyvore the other day and saw there was a Candyfuture contest, but the entries were already being judged. =( I still made a couple of Candyfuturific sets. I plan on making more too. I know you’re busy Doe, and I understand how you could forget to mention it. But if you want to check out some of my poly sets that I made of you, you can go here:
