Tales of the Unicorn Queen

I’m becoming a big Nine West fan – their shoes are affordable, well-made and designs lately have been just superb. I was stocked to receive these bright yellow canvas booties in the mail and wear them on my trip to Coney Island (post about that coming later! :)).

Quality-wise, these are excellent. The top part and heel are covered in canvas; toes wrapped in yellow leather to protect the edges from getting dirty. I especially liked how they made the soles fuzzy for extra traction.

My only criticism is their walkability (yes, it’s a word now!). In spite of great cushioning and a comfy fit, a 4″ heel without a platform in the front will turn you into a cripple and have you begging for a motor chair within 15 minutes! This may not be true for larger sizes (the smaller the foot, the lower its high-heel tolerance) but my 7.5 size feets pretty much said ‘nuh uh’ by the time I got to the subway. Of course, beautiful things often require sacrifices and I was more than willing to make one for these babies. ;) Besides, there is some room in the foot so I’m thinking of padding them to elevate the sole and de-extremize the angle a little. Oh, the things we’ll do for beautiful shoes!

Doe Deere rating: out of 5.

I wore them with this.

You’re too pretty! It’s not fair.

    Stop it. =P

  • Aether says:

Lovely shoes, lovely outfit, lovely you! I believe I have tried that red hair color before and loved it! Looks great on you! I went back to being a brunette for the first time in oh.. about 10 years. Haha, I like it though, it suits me. <3

  • Jessie says:

I really love the shoes and how you added purple socks with them, too cute!

  • Valentina says:

Ahhh I love those shoes! (And your Mika tshirt)

  • Miss X, for what it’s worth, I can wear anywhere between an 8 and 9 (though mostly 9s lately), and a 4″ heel can still make me feel like a cripple!

  • AJ says:

I love the new hair! And Nine West has been getting really nice. I bought a couple great pairs of shoes from them last year, and a nice bag, too.

  • Mini says:

I like your outfit. And I think we have almost the same haircolor. Mine is bit lighter I think.

  • Clara says:

Oh they are beautiful shoes! That colour is just gorgeous! I wish the big thing wasn’t for 4 inch heels. I’m finding gorgeous shoes now but they all have 4 inch. I can do 3 and a half inch at a push but the extra half makes a difference.

Surely they can make something that will stop pain from heels by now instead of just telling us girls to wear flatter shoes. *Gasp* Shocking suggestion!

  • Kris says:

    I love your outfit!

And those shoes are adorable. I love how bright and vibrant they are! Surely I’d need a lot of practice to walk in those.

  • Jennifer says:

I love impractical shoes, they’re so much fun.

I think lace-up heels can be hit or miss and those are definitely a hit. They make me want to wear more yellow!

  • Ngoc says:

    Oh wow, they’re amazing~
    Are these available online?

  • sheila says:

Oh how I wish yellow went with my skin tone…. I don’t normally care but with yellow I just look terrible :/ Those shoes are great! I too cannot resist the call of impractical but stylish shoes!

I love the new haircolor too, but I have to say, I miss that blue stripe in your bangs you used to have :)

  • Nubby says:

Wow, for Nine West, those are totally amazing! Love the vibrant yellow!

  • Nubby says:

P.S. I’m not seeing them on the website. Did you buy them in one of their stores?

  • Siobhan says:

Oh my! Those shoes are fantastic! I adore the color, and although they may be uncomfortable they are really the icing on the cake of your adorable outfit! I love your new hair color, its stunning! I love the cut of your hair too. :p I hope you had fun at Coney Island!

  • Killer shoes! And I love how you tied them around the back. :)

  • Those are amazing. I curse the day my local Nine West store closed!

    ♣ Kenni
    Sorry ;-P

    ♣ Aether
Well, that would explain why I instantly thought of you when I first saw my new hair :)

    ♣ Valentina
I am a big Mika fan!

    ♣ Ashe Mischief
I honestly don’t understand why designers insist on making those impossible heels… Anything over 3.5″, leave it to Mosh! ;)

    ♣ Mini
My hair is almost electric red right now. Crazy! I bet it’ll wash out though.

    ♣ Clara
I think it’s already been invented. It’s called Morphine. ;)

    ♣ Jennifer
Lace-ups are usually not my thing either – too sporty. But these just work, probably because of the lovely color.

    ♣ Ngoc
I’m not sure, I got them at a physical store here in NY.

    ♣ Sheila
I miss it too, sometimes. ;) After all, bright blue is one of my favorite colors! :D

    ♣ Nubby
I got them at a designer discount store called Century 21 (we should all go when you’re in NYC! It’s fun! :)). After some digging, a shocking discovery: they are almost an exact copy of Dries van Notens, ha!

  • Ruth says:

The outfit really compliments the shoes :)
I love the new shade of red too.

  • /pam says:

I like your yellow shoes better than the Dries van Notens shoes xD

They have a lot more spunk!!!

oh my goodness!!! I am in love with those shoes! And Mika totally rules. When I’m in a bad mood i listen to his music and instantly feel better! OHHH what if the heels of those shoes had stripes? :O RAD!
