Santa Clause is coming… out
Category: Weekly Glee
Some of these Soviet postcards I brought from Russia are downright hilarious. My favorite ones are those implying – completely unintentionally of course – that Russian Santa “Ded Moroz” is gay.
* * *
As a baby, Santa displayed a penchant for classical music, theater and ballet.

Here he is swishing gaily through the forest in an flamboyant maxi coat, smiling slyly, as deers look on in admiration and awe.

At the age of 50, Santa offers a small boy a ride on his… sleigh.

And finally: Santa comes out… in style!

Merry Christmas everybody!
I have lots of gay friends and every time we hang out I’m flabbergasted by how crude gay humor can be (these cards pale by comparison!). One of my favorite gay epics is Queer Duck, written by one of the guys from The Simpsons. They once did an episode called “Santa Clause is Coming… Out” - it’s number 19 if you wanna check it out. Be warned though: definitely, positively, 100% NOT WORK SAFE!
Have a festive weekend, deerlings! :)

Aah, I love Queer Duck! Every time I visit & I’m subjected to a conversation between the sports-obsessed male members of my family, I can’t help getting the “Baseball Is Gay” song from the movie stuck in my head.

I actually met Mike Reiss, the creator of Queer Duck during my many nonchalant trips during college to track down Simspons writers and have them sign my ever increasing Simpsons collection. All I need is Conan O’Brien to sign the episodes he wrote/starred in to make it a complete collection…Yes, I am Obsessive!
Aside from that, I really like the first card, its probably one of my favorites out of here, just from looking at it. Its just so interesting! and YAY for purple red and blue parachutes!

The 1st one I had to ask my mom to help me find santa’s face lol I thought it looked like a stuffed dog with a big red nose and short floppy red ears. Ha ha. I get what you mean in the 2nd one; he’s half-way to drag. Look at that flowy beard must have Raquel Reed’s hair dresser doing it. Um “santa comes out” DOE! with THAT boy? Gross I don’t think he’s legal yet, 18 if you use your imagination and still eywwwwww!!
thanks for sharing. *cringes* ha ha

There’s something about reading that something isn’t work safe that always makes me click on it at work. For what, proof? I don’t know. I hope nobody is in IT this morning.

I don’t understand how these at all imply homosexuality. i think that is naive and unnecessarily published commentary.

Haha, I know! The temptation is just too strong!

Well, rainbows are generally considered a symbol of homosexuality, and since I like both gay & rainbows, you can see why I would choose to post about it.
I suppose seeing humor in things is naive & unnecessary but as long as it’s not done at anyone’s expense, I see no harm. :)

I agree with Anna, I don’t see how these festive post cards of Santa could be interpreted as homosexual traits?
The whole post could actually be interpreted as homosexual stereotyping.
I get that the post cards aren’t your typical festive variety, but as you should be aware Xenia different cultures have different traits associated with Santa. He is just a jovial happy man. The only gay thing I can see about these cards are in the traditional sense, meaning happy.
I like that whenever someone has an opinion that differ to others they are imediatley shot down.
I think the cards are cute and quite adorable actually, and I have no problem with the delivery of the blog post. But just because someone disagrees doesn’t make them wrong or mean they have taken offence.

I think people just have different perceptions of what’s funny. To me, blunt stereotyping – and this is exactly what this is – is part of the joke. I mean, how many gay guys do we *really* know that dance ballet?! Haha. :) Although, admittedly, I wouldn’t mind seeing someone “come out” on a rainbow parachute…

Hahahaha! That’s beyond hilarious. As a gay guy myself i personally DO NOT think Russan Santa is gay – hahaha – alththough looking at above images – especially the 2nd one
from the top one might think otherwise…
But. This is the funniest, most original, totally unexpected and creative look at something from Soviet time completed with wonderful nostalgic New Year’s cards. Bravo.
(You WISH he was though, when a hot guy in his late 20’s slaps on white beard with read coat to portray Santa at some new Year’s party, but that’s beside the point :)…)
