Tales of the Unicorn Queen

Stuck in London

Category Unicorn Queen

Mark and I were supposed to fly out yesterday, but our flight got canceled due to the volcano eruption in Iceland. So, I decided that while we’re stranded in London, you should receive 20% off on everything in our webshop! Sale ends when we get back to New York – April 21!

Having said this, London is not the worst place to be stuck in by any means. It’s a beautiful city with friendly and fashionable people. Now that all the work is done, we might actually have time to go shopping and explore! Yesterday we had a a bit of a scare that we’d end up kicked out of our hotel. Luckily, my friend Raj (of Electroqueer) had an empty flat and a kitty who needed a caretaker – so now we’re staying at his place. Raj, ironically, is currently stuck in NY due to the same Nobody-Knows-How-To-Pronounce-Its-Name Icelandic volcano, and might end up staying at our place!

Meeting Doe Deere!
Meet & Greet at SpaceNK | Bunny ears by The Velvet Village

I loved meeting all of you during our UK tour. Every night went to bed happy, with a strip of smiling faces running through my brain. Meeting my customers made me complete in so many ways; I learned so much. Some of you were from London, some of you traveled 4 hours just to meet me. I am so humbled. Thank you, thank you, thank you! As promised, I will upload the pictures we’d taken together on my Flickr as soon as I get home. For now, check out these snapshots from my phone!

Of all the cities to be stuck in, I reckon I’d be rather happy for it to be London. I hope you enjoy the extra time in the world’s most excellent city. (LDN <3)

If you haven’t seen them before I recommend Candy Cakes on Goodge Street, not far from the tube station, the most amazing colourful cupcakes you would adore.

  • Sophie says:

I was prevented from coming to your London Meet & Greet due to dissertation woes, but I was excited to see your ‘no she didn’t’ lipstick mentioned in the Sunday Times Style magazine on their beauty news page. I plan on hot-footing it down to the nearest Space NK for at least one tube of it asap! Its great to see your makeup getting the recognition it deserves.

    Doe Deere Reply:

I hope you love it, Sophie! I’m sorry we didn’t get to meet but I’m sure we will in the future. :)

  • Annie says:

I love how all three girls in the photo are wearing Docs :]

I LOVED the way they were dressed! Sort of made me wish I’d brought my lime green Docs ;)

  • Lisa says:

It was such a pleasure meeting you and Mark on Friday. I was the Canadian girl wearing Airborne Unicorn. I just wanted to say thank you and let you know that I am looooving my new purple lips! I’ve gotten loads of compliments and everybody looves the packaging.

While you’re stranded, make sure you visit the Victoria and albert museum. It’s my favorite in all of London and I know you’ll go mad for the fashion displays!

    Doe Deere Reply:

    Hi Lisa!

It was a pleasure meeting you as well. :) And thanks for the recommendation, by the way things are looking we might just have enough time to go there!

I was supposed to be in Paris this weekend but that volcano (I can’t pronounce its name too!!) had me stuck at SFO for three days. I found a way home (I’m not that far from SFO but not that close either) and am working to change my flight around yet again. I’m so glad your friend is taking good care of you and mark. I really feel bad for all of those who have to sleep at the airport while they try to be patient with this volcano. I hope God will take mercy on us and have that volcano stop long enough to let us fly home or to wherever else we need to go. Glad things are going well in London!! I am so proud of you Doe. Now that I’m home I’ll get cracking on that review on your fabulous lippies ;)

    Love you much,

    ButacuP

    Doe Deere Reply:

Wow, three days! Luckily, we are in an apartment. I really hope the situation resolves itself soon, this has gone on long enough…

  • Ariel Grimm says:

It’s a blessing in disguise to be stuck in London! You finally made it to the top, you’re an international superstar now…

  • Maggie says:

hope that doesn’t mean you’re stuck in the airport! ahhh! torture.

  • Rachel says:

It was nice to see you guys… and if you need any ideas for where to check out call me!!

  • Becca says:

I was gutted I didn’t get to meet you – I was traveling round Sweden and ended up in London just a few days before you got there, but I had to get back to Edinburgh. One day…!
Well, if you get bored of London, there’s always bonny Scotland to visit. :P

    Doe Deere Reply:

    Hey Becca,

I would love to visit Scotland and meet you one day! I’ve heard so many wonderful things.

    Becca Reply:

It’s a goooorgeous place; I live right by the castle.
I’m actually spending a few months in Boston later this year though, and there are many many New York trips being planned so who knows – maybe I’ll get to meet you there instead! :)

  • Rickey says:

I won’t complain if you stick ME in London… haha! What an adorable outfit you have on! Did you make the poodle skirt?
    <3

  • SuperNothing says:

Will it be all branches of SpaceNK strocking your goodies? Or just the london stores?

    Doe Deere Reply:

All branches in existence, including Scotland and Ireland.

    SuperNothing Reply:

    YAY!
There goes my pay check! I have got to get me some No She Didn’t and My Beautiful rocket! :D
This has made my day :D

    SuperNothing Reply:

  • Sarah says:

Your sale graphic looks remarkably like our blog header. Should we be flattered at the imitation, or is this just a coincidence?

    Doe Deere Reply:

Did you get your graphic from Google? :) I think it’s the same one!

    Sarah Reply:

Yes, it’s the same. It actually belongs to a blog called theducks.org – we got permission to use it, might be best to drop them a line and make sure it’s OK with them to have it as your sale graphic.

    Lily Reply:

If you got it from Google, surely it came from a website? It isn’t very nice to take without giving credit!

  • Plushy says:

Will your magic dusts be available there too? I really want some but didn’t want to be stung with any possible customs charges :)

    Doe Deere Reply:

Yes, we’re bringing them over in the summer. You shouldn’t worry about the custom charges though, I don’t think any of our customers have been charged anything extra on top of what they’d paid for the order. xo

  • Sasha says:

You should come to Bath!! It’s so pretty!
Plus we have a Space NK here – I know some of the girls who work there and they’re super impressed with the lipsticks! Love love LOVE Airborne Unicorn and Styletto by the way….

That made me laugh -a lot-, you might like it too! its a whole bunch of reporters pronouncing the volcano, as well as it being pronounced the correct way!

    1. “Stuck in London” reminds me of the song “London Still” by the Waifs :)
    2. I want some Doc Martin boots too!
    3. I want to buy you a pair of Skull Candy hot pink earphones and send them to you, but I am too poor :(

  • Suzanne C. says:

You look adorable, the ears look so much cuter on you than on the foam manequin heads on her facebook lol. I’m glad you have a place to stay, I saw peopleon the news sleeping in airport cots w/ red cross blankets I felt really bad for them. I hope being stranded turns out to be a fun adventure =)
Now to find a way to get my hands on some money to take advantage of that sale!

  • Jessie says:

Wow! Those photos from your phone are freaking amazing. What on earth do you have???

  • Kitty says:

Hi. :) I would lovelovelove to buy your eyeshadows! But I have oily skin & when I put on some eyeshadow it disappears in like 30 mins., or an hour & goes right into the creases on my eyelids. So I’m curious if your eyeshadows are good for oily skin?

    Z Reply:

hey! Use a primer underneath the eyeshadow (like Urban Decay Primer Potion or Too Faced Eyeshadow insurance), I have the same problem as you but these products create a matte texture that stay matte for days if you wanted!

    Kitty Reply:

    :P Thanks for the info!
I’m definitely going to buy them.

  • Lani says:

Hi Kitty, I have oily lids too and have test driven Lime Crime with and without a base/primer. Without a primer they crease within 6 hours or so. With a primer/base they last 12 hours plus! I use MAC Paint Pots as a base and Too Faced Shadow Insurance as a primer. You don’t have to use all of that at once, I don’t, though if you’re really concerned about the oiliness, you might want to :) Hope that helped!

    Kitty Reply:

Hey Lani, thank you so much! That really helped a lot! :P
Can’t wait to buy them now!
