Tales of the Unicorn Queen

I was eager to show off my Candyfuture fashions to the world, so I made my own outfit for the New York Couture appearance. This is how I explained it to press: *points up* “Candy!” *points down* “Future!” Think they got it? :)

Countessa Fluorescent lipstick

The candy hat was constructed out of a plastic ball sliced in half, wrapped in iridescent film and secured on with a string. I lined the bottom with felt so it stayed on pretty well. I got many complements on it, made feel all gleeful throughout the night. :)))

Posing next to my makeup – what a cheeseball!

  • Dress & hat: handmade
  • Tights: Ellen Tracy
  • Handbag: thrifted
  • Lipstick: Lime Crime in Countessa Fluorescent
  • Shoes: Charlotte Russe (shown here)

  • kristina says:

I tweeted about this- I can’t wait for the lippys to come out! You look fabulous, as usual. :]

  • What kind of material is that dress made out of? It’s amazing!

  • Alzy says:

I love it. What a great idea for the hat! And the dress is candyfuture gorgeous!

It’s hard to describe this fabric. It’s metallic, really thin and sort of stretchy. I’ve never seen anything like it before!

  • Raven says:

I don’t like this outfit. It’s a little all over the place. Your hair also looks a bit dull and frizzy and the lipstick, while great, isn’t flattering with your skintone.

  • arabis says:

I wish I could whip up the outfit of my dreams with ease as you seem to Doe! As usual you look great and I love your hair! Its really voluminous and gorgeous. I pretty much disagree with everything Raven said, lol. Each to their own though! x

  • Alexandra says:

This looks divine! Also… I think your hair looks beautiful and almost sort of wild–very fun!

I very much disagree with everything Raven says.

  • Kristi says:

    I LOVE your dress doe.
LOL Raven, I wonder how often you come to this blog? Doe isn’t about wearing clothing or makeup to make her look flattering (while it’s an important part of fashion it’s not her number one priority). Fashion is aesthetic expression and she’s trying to portray a (candy)futuristic world from her mind into the real world.

In the last post’s comments I forgot to say how much I love that hat! At first I thought it was a bit much, even for you,(but then I thought it was a bow at 1st glance ha ha)but then i realized it’s GENIUS! You are so glamorous here, you MUST do a Make-up or overall tutorial! Also, I notice you have some carmex on your make-up table. I ALWAYS use carmex to soften and smooth my lips before I put anything else on them. =)

  • Suzanne C. says:

Hey, one more thing: what is that big white powder container you have there?

  • Arika says:

The fabric is metallic spandex, also known as dance spandex.

  • Kate & Zena says:

I was going to say it looked like dance spandex, Arika! Spandex tends to be a bitch to sew as it loves to stretch.

I love how you responded to the press. So very cheeky (in a good way, not the prissy way). :)

  • Emily says:

I love the dress! I made a bathing suit and lined a costume cloak in the silver. XD

Tell me about it, last March I had to make a 23 piece body suit out of the stuff. There were times I wanted to shoot myself for even taking on the project.

  • Simone says:

Wow, that dress is so unusual! It actually reminds me of my old cheerleading uniform. I miss that thing, I might have to dig it out again (even though I no longer cheer) XD

  • Lacy says:

Well, I think this is fun! It’s a “simple” outfit that says a lot. Good for your, Doe Deere! As for the cosmetics, LOVE them and can’t wait for the lipsticks to come out shortly! :D

  • Wikifashion says:

I love the dress, it is so awesome!

  • Angie says:

You’re about the prettiest rainbow ever.

You are now my makeup goddess. <3

  • Kate & Zena says:

OUCH!!! Was it a personal project or one you had to do? I’ve (thankfully) never had to sew spandex but I had to hem up one of my slacks that was 98% cotton, 2% lycra in it. Frustration was definitely a word I would use to describe the process.

  • kagitsune says:

Ah, you still sew? :D That’s awesome. ^^ And that looks like it was a pretty hard-to-sew fabric, too. Maybe it’s a lame’?

anyway, awesome candy fascinator. Love your sense of spontaneous creativity. :D Hope to be in your shoes one day, doe, with possible collabs coming in left and right… ^^

Good luck from here on out! ^^v

  • Kellee says:

you look fantastic! The hat is adorable and I LOVE the dress!

  • Alys says:

This looks like an amazing event! Thanks so much for sharing the awesome <3

  • Emily says:

Is that a necklace I see with the stars on it or is it part of the dress? It’s amazing, whatever it is!

  • I’m feeling the GLEE just looking at you!! You look sensational :D
    Bisous xx

  • Sparklewolfie says:

The candy headdress is so wonderful! I LOVE sweets on heads :D I have seen cake slices, cookies, a two-tiered cake, but never a big candy like that! So cool :)

  • Natalie says:

I love it! The hat is fantastic :)
I made my own riding jacket this past August (I’ve been so busy with the horse show scene, so I’ve only been catching snippets of what you write since July), and I should send you pictures! Its hot pink, raw silk, with crazy beading on it. Ended up being a huge hit ;)

  • kat a says:

i agree with raven in that i dont like this outfit. however, i have no problem with your hair and makeup. i think what’s bothering me is the tights. you’re being overpowered by white, and i’m used to seeing you in fabulous color! aesthetically, i think colored or patterned tights would have made this more successful. maybe something to pull in the iridescent colors of your candy headdress. i think you might could even get away with white or silver tights if they were metallic and shiny like the rest of the outfit. but matte, white, floral tights drag the whole thing down. i am NOT trying to be rude in any way, i just want to give you constructive feedback. i hope you understand. :) (btw, i do think the dress is adorable, and could totally see it being sold at american apparel or urban outfitters!)

I am loving seeing your lipsticks in photos. Sooo much nicer than swatches, y’know? Can’t wait for the site to launch!

  • Holly says:

    LOVE this, especially the hat!

  • ZoĆ« says:

your hair looks lovely…it has a thick windblown effect that looks as if you really did time travel to the future and back again
    :D

It was a personal project. It turned out ok but I had to re-do several portions of it more than once. Putting in the zipper almost made me cry though.
