Tales of the Unicorn Queen

Suddenly, I felt wildly inspired by the 50s – with a candyfuturistic twist of course!

RETRO-INSPIRED MAKEUP

This retro-inspired look is all about the strong brows, over-sized eyes and bright-orange lips. False lashes and eyeliner are a-must!

Eyeshadow: Troubadour, Medusa, Top Hattie magic dust
Lipstick/blush: My Beautiful Rocket

FACE

Apply matte foundation and dab orange lipstick onto the apples of your cheeks, blending with a finger. You can also use orange-tinted blush if you have it – coordinating lips and cheeks will help bring the look together, and make orange lipstick worn on any complexion! I applied bronzer under my cheek bones to help them stand out even more. Define brows with a dark brown brow cake or eyeshadow – I recommend doing the brows first because they will dictate the shape of the eye.

EYES

Prime the eyelids with a primer (stay tuned for Lime Crime‘s revolutionary Candy Eyed Eyeshadow Helper coming this fall!). Apply Troubadour magic dust onto the center of the eye and over the crease. Define crease, outer corners and line lower lid with Medusa. Dab Top Hattie on inner corners, brow bone and just barely onto the center of the ball for a high-light. Using a black pencil, darken outer corners close to the lashes and fill in the waterline 2/3 through – this will elongate the eye.

Now let’s put on lots of eyeliner! You can use liquid or gel for this, whatever gives you that thick, fat line. First dab close to the lashes and then start building up the thickness – don’t be afraid to go bold! Wing it out almost as far as where your brows end. Apply false lashes.

LIPS

Last, and most glamorous step, is lipstick. A lot of people are afraid of orange but it’s actually a color that works on almost everybody, as long as you coordinate it with your cheeks. I recommend applying My Beautiful Rocket directly from the tube onto clean, exfoliated lips – skip lip balm. This will help the color really hold on to your lips, resulting in some serious lasting power. Voila!

Deerlings: which look would you like to see me do next?

Are you ever going to do mascaras and liquid eyeliners for your line?

I was putting on my makeup just now (eagerly awaiting my box of Lime Crime!) and I thought how cool it might be to have mascara that matches Cosmopop and Oh No She Didn’t. I remember my sister religiously using the only 2 purple and blue mascaras she could find in the early 2000s.

now reading this I thought about how much I would use a lavender or deep purple liquid eyeliner…GREEN! orange!

I’ve never seen any makeup company do that!

I follow the Blogazine very closely because it just makes me feel so great about myself! I used to be so fun and adventurous with my clothing, my makeup, and life in general but lately I’ve been feeling a little low. My quick fix? Your blogazine! One quick peek on here and I am reminded that I still am that fun, adventurous girl and that I can do anything! Thank you so much for sharing your glee with the world!
