Style Diary: ModCloth rocks!

Category Style Diary

I’m back on American soil, yay! Not wasting any time, I went right ahead to meet up with Susan of ModCloth.com who was in town for a trade show. What did I wear? A skirt from ModCloth, of course! Haha, I’m a cheese ball. :D

  • Blouse: Bebe
  • Skirt: ModCloth
  • Rainbow belt: Etsy
  • Necklace: gift from Mark’s aunt
  • Shoes: Nine West
  • Purse: Claire’s
  • Eyeshadow: Empress by Lime Crime

I trimmed and layered my hair. Love it!

If you are not familiar with ModCloth, you should really familiarize yourself. Susan and I go way back – when I was selling on eBay, she had just begun conceptualizing her company – the ultimate treasure chest of unique vintage finds, cute housewares and awesome shoes (hello Irregular Choice & Jeffrey Campbell!) . I remember her advertising in our LJ community, Little Big Girls. Now she carries my makeup line. Funny how these things happen… Even though I was horribly jet-lagged, I couldn’t stop talking to Susan about the ins-and-outs of running a business – a new trend with me. Both of us like to support female-run small businesses, so of course we had a lot to talk about!

Sugarcandie Beauty Bar! They make the most deliciously-scented soaps and sugar scrubs. *_* (http://sugarcandiebeauty.etsy.com)

I also love various lolita clothing shops on TaoBao (which is a Chinese site, so I use a service like Qcute (http://qcute.livejournal.com) or Mashimaro Girl (http://mashimaro-girl.livejournal.com/) to order from them).

  • Charlene Daalling says:

LOve that purple! Any chance of bringing back Marie Antionette blush. Even if just for a limited time?

  • Rosie says:

You look gorgeous! I love your new hair.

  • Sera says:

    Favourite online shop?

Lime Crime Makeup, of course. <3

  • Modcloth is AWESOME. I also love to browse etsy for hours.

  • Fae says:

I love the clothing ModCloth carries, I just wish they had an XL now and then, so I could actually buy some of it. :/

  • Anna says:

I love ModCloth but unfortunately I can’t buy anything! I don’t really have any fav online shops, I’m not allowed to buy online. However, I do quite love Etsy!

  • Sally says:

What a fabulous skirt – both the cut and the vibrant color.

I love heavyreds corsets, they are beautiful.

I have my own little shop of happiness over at http://www.misspurplecat.etsy.com where I create all types of fun and bright jewellery.

  • Emily says:

Is it cheating to say ebay? And what lipstick are you wearing?

  • eyeliah says:

You look great, very cool to meet up it ModCloth!

My favorite online shop is http://www.fredflare.com
I don’t like the few clothes they sell, but I find lots of cute accessories and things. :)
By the way, I love that outfit!

  • Amber says:

I love that blouse! It’s so Victorian!

My favorite online shops…ShanaLogic.Com (that’s actually how I found Lime Crime and DDB), FireMountainGems.Com, and Etsy.Com.

    And I’m dying to buy from PyramidCollection.Com–if I ever have money again! ;_;

  • Tiara says:

Modcloth does have some nice stuff :)

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Velvet Garden (http://velvetgarden.net). It’s a second-hand shop for Gothic-esque clothes * accessories. I’ve found some awesome stuff from there that I wear all the time!

  • Stephanie says:

    Lovely dovely purple outfit!

I’ve recently been loving Clockwork Couture. Though I really don’t really buy into the steampunk or victorian scene, I love their clothes!

  • Firstly, great skirt! I love the cut and the amazing colour.
Hmmmmm…There are countless online shops I’ve seen and loved, but I generally can’t afford too much online shopping *sadface*.
I must say though, I do love ” I kick shins” because they stock heaps of gorgeous, luminous, shiny, bright fake hair/ hairpiece making supplies! It’s like a candy store for my skull :) Unfortunately though, like so many other great online shops, it ends up costing me a lot to buy anything because AUS dollars are not worthy much, and shipping just makes it extra. Sigh!
But luckily I enjoy sewing and craftiness, so I tend to make myself stuff anyway :)

  • I always love coming by here to see what colorful and fun outfit you have on! Thanks for always sharing. =)

  • Oops! I mean not “worth” much…. O.o

  • Sara says:

I simply adore Plastik Wrap. It is such fantastic cybery Victoriana daywear. And who can’t browse Etsy for hours? :3

  • Isabella says:

wow- does anyone else think she looks… different? sorry doe, i didnt mean that in any sort of negative way. you dont look better or worse, just… different. and no, it’s not your hair. i am sure of that much.

as online stores go etsy outshines all! you can even buy yummy foods and stuff! :P

  • Alzy says:

I love the eyeshadow! Looks killer with green eyes- I’ll have to pick some up!

And Etsy is like my porn. Also Boudoir Queen!

  • Ellie says:

I like Modcloth and Etsy. Not just for the clothing though, the other day I discovered a delicious recipe for Bakewell tarts there yum!

  • Julia says:

I drool over ModCloth almost every week but unfortunetely the shipping rate to Brazil is impossible. 23 dollars for shipping a wallet? Sorry. not for my pockets!

  • Clarissa says:

That skirt is epic! I love it :] And I love how you blended the two pictures together, really cool :]

  • Arika says:

sockdreams.com I must order from them once a month.
They keep me nice, toasty, and fashionable all year long!

  • Padmita says:

    Cute outift!

For shopping, I love to browse http://www.asos.com, they have such cute stuff sometimes and they ship worldwide! I am also drooling over some stuff at http://www.victoriasjewelrybox.com and a pair of Bloch pointe shoes. I had been thinking about getting the peachy polka-dot gloves from ModCloth, but the shipping rates to Germany are way too expensive for just a pair of gloves :/

  • Kerry says:

Oh Em Gee! That sparkly pink bag is gorgeous!! Where did you get it??

My favourite online shop is quickly becoming lime crime! I got my first lot of makeup the other week and couldn’t wait to buy more, it’s amazing!!!

  • Ally says:

Love the blouse! I remember when you bought it. :)

There are lots of fun online clothing stores; my favorite is Spiegel. They send pretty e-mails every day which are inspiring and their clothes are stylish.

    ♦ Charlene Daalling
I’ll be honest – I wasn’t crazy about loose blush myself, so I’d rather make a pressed one some time in the future. :)

    ♦ Isabella
Either mother Russia or jetlag to blame. I’ve been a little out of it the past 2 days…

    ♦ Arika
    Omg, I love sockdreams!!

  • Like Fae, I think ModCloth has great things–I wish they had more diverse sizing though. I don’t bother looking nowadays mostly because I hate to see pretty things I want & can’t wear.

As for small, indie businesses I love? B&Lu for clothes. Etsy & Artfire.

  • Sniper says:

I bought a red parasol and heart sunglasses from ModCloth once. It was such a good deal! I wish they had more lolita items.

  • Ashley says:

    i LOVE asiajam’s clothing (www.asiajam.com)
they have the cutest things. Doe, i think you’d love their stuff
unfortunatly, i dont fit into their clothing :( but its still fun to look

  • Megan J. says:

You look so great in that purple eyeshadow -I’ve been really wanting to see you do more purple ‘looks’, so thank you!:D
And your hair looks quite lovely.:)

I think it’s really wonderful to hear of women supporting eachother’s business endeavors. Not enough women get support when they really need it, unfortunately.

You should do a blog post some time about the in’s & out’s of beginning a business and keeping it successful. I’ve got plans to one day (hopefully) start my own little business making and selling fantasy masks and other (Faery)costume accessories. So I think a post about small business ventures from someone doing so well would be very helpful to some of us, at least.:)

  • Bonniee:) says:

    Obviously Lime Crime. <33~ ^_^

But other than that, probably Snorgtees.com
Best witty T-shirts on the net!
    Plus:
    Bustedtees.com
    Noisebottees.com
    Tshirthell.com
    crazydogtshirts.com

    :DD
As you can see I am a huge fan of shirts. :3

  • kittenteeth says:

I spend way too much time gawking at all the amazing stuff on Etsy. I haven’t bought anything from these sellers yet, but if I had the money, look out! Makool.etsy.com, boudoirqueen.etsy.com, and of course topsyturvydesign.etsy.com, whom you did an excellent profile on here! All of these shops do gorgeous work, absolutely dreamy! I’ve also got my own shop on Etsy for vintage clothes, etc- kittenteeth.etsy.com :)

  • Maria says:

I love your outfit! You look gorgeous!
