Sweetiepie with La Carmina
Category: Excursions, Weekly Glee

La Carmina
I’ve been meaning to check out Sweetiepie for quite some time. It’s girly luxurious decor is almost legendary throughout Manhattan, and what better date than La Carmina? This girl is a gem. A Yale Law School graduate, she abandoned her law career before it even began and got a publishing deal instead. What does she write about? Crazy Wacky Theme Restaurants in Tokyo and Cute cooking recipes for any occasion!
Sweetiepie got mixed reviews on Yelp but our experience was nothing short of delightful – we went in at about 3 o’clock on a weekday and were the only guests. You know what that means, right? We got to sit in the cage!!! (I never thought I’d be so excited to end up behind bars!)

Yes, they really do have hot pink leather couches!

Carmina got an absinthe, and I went for some raspeberry mousse desert. Delish!

Would I recommend this restaurant? Yes, for the experience. Be sure to come in off-peak (I hear it’s really hard to get waiters’ attention otherwise) and go straight for dessert!
Deerlings: what’s the cutest restaurant in your town?

Oooh, I have to go there next time I’m in NYC!
In Montreal, the cutest place I’ve been is a cupcake shop where I used to work. It’s called Les Glaceurs and eveything is hot pink and lime green! Plus, they make the best cupcake in town (and I’m not just saying this, we’ve had many costumers tell us so)… And it’s right next to a big basilica, right in the old town, so it’s definitely worth a stop!!

another cute place on the Quebec side (more like Gatineau/Hull) is Piz’za-za. It is this cozy little wine bar and pizza restaurant. Super warm vibe, great service and extensive (personall) pizza menu. Honestly would suggest going there around Christmas <3

I can’t think of any cute places down here in south Texas. Luby’s maybe? hahaha (Do you have Luby’s there? It’s country food served cafeteria-style. Very unglam. But good.)

I so want to go there right now because the Hello Kitty 35th anniversity exhibition is going on right now. It pains me that I don’t have the funds to fly there before it ends. :(
Hello Kitty is my age and I have been collecting HK items since I was a littel girl.

Have you been to Serendipity? I feel like you must have if you live in NYC and love those sweet little cafes. The frozen hot chocolate is delicious :9 . Haven’t tried any of the proper dishes but they have great desserts.
If we’re talking in my area (Flushing, Queens) I would have to say Rose House is the most adorable eatery. It’s a little tea house that serves a variety of Asian and English teas along with snacks. It is pretty expensive considering the general price range of food in the area, but if we’re talking strictly about decor, this place takes the cake.

The cutest place here in Thermop, Wyoming is definitely the Black Bear Cafe. Silhouettes of cute little bears are all over the front, and inside it’s like stepping into a mountain man’s memories. If that makes sense. :)
And they make a mean BLT.

I do have to say that I dislike this person “La Carmina” very much. Her tastes in Gothic Lolita fashion are quite atrocious and when she was in my presence she absolutely did not act with any class!

I’m sorry to hear about that. I tend to judge people based on my personal experience, and mine happened to be pleasant. I’m far from an EGL fashion guru but I thought her outfit was very cute, especially the beret.

Yes… when I heard you were hanging out with La Carmina i was horrified. My experience with her was also of someone crass and juvenile but i’m so so happy you had a good time.
I think you should give Carmina a make over, that would be so cute!

Tanukis in Portland Or is so much fun. It’s not extravagant, in fact it’s itty-bitty. The menu changes daily and the prices are decent enough that you can try a bunch of different menu items. They make wonderful drinks, and no kids allowed.

Wow you look goegeous! I know everyone always says that but you look particularly good here! I want to eat in a place like that. I had Chicken Mc Nuggets (no fries too many carbs) and water for lunch.
Whatever the cutest restaraunt in town is I’m sure i’ve never been and can’t really afford it. I just know I LOVE anything on 4th ave here in Tucson. theres a pizza place called Brooklyn Pizza thats the best. It hasthe strangest most delicious toppings such as potato or meatball. They also serve Italian ice and the walls serve as a local art gallery. I mean you can buy a painting with a slice of peperoni pizza in your hand!
Time Market is also really great it’s a little store with a deli in the back with most delicious sandwiches and then they have brick oven baked pizza and at the front register is all sorts of sweets and you can get Italian soda. Hazelnut with creme is the best!

This is the type of cafe that I’ve always dreamed of owning! I know we must have places cutesy like this in Chicago, but I don’t know where to find them. Instead I always head over to Intelligencia Cafe for their comfy decor and delicious coffee smells. =D
PS I know it’s been posted but you truly do look so beautiful in these pictures. As in all your pictures. =) I’m so glad I found your blog as it brings me a little bit of cutesy heaven every time I read a new post. =)
Take care, Lovely!

Wow, I’ve seen a few places that serve absinthe (albeit not too many), but I haven’t
seen anyplace that serves it quite so
beautifully! Too bad strong licorice taste
makes me feel slightly sick, because I otherwise love how that drink makes me feel (buzzed…and quickly!)

We don’t really have anything like that here. I wish we did, maybe one day there will be. Though we do have a lovely place in town that I love called Uptopia. It’s always got a board outside with funny quotes (mostly George Bush ones, there’s so many) and they’re still going even though a Costa and two Starbucks have moved in near, one right next door. The people who work there are lovely and the owner is a gem. I think he gets high off the smell of the coffee and I remember him telling me all about CSI once and completely forgetting I had paid him, I had to force my money at him. And when he gave me a free coffee as I had a Starbuck gingerbread latte not realising he made them, he took away mine and gave me his as a replacement. Never gone back to Starbucks since.

Wow, that resturant looks so cute!
Here in town there’s a little French place called Moulin Rouge. (Yes, after the famous Paris theatre) It was here long before the film, though.
There’s a cute windmill outside, along with a mini Eiffel tower, which they decorate for holidays (red for Valentine’s Day, red and green for Christmas), and the entire building is shingled in brick red with a black roof.
The food is excellent. I had steak au poivre en flambe, and it came to the table with blue sterno flames going. The gravy was really peppery and had a bit of a red wine flavor to it as well. Yummy!
The chocolate mousse was made with dark chocolate, whipped to perfection, to die for!
It’s kind of expensive, my boyfriend and I ate there for around $120, but it was well worth it. =)

Next time I am in NYC I will have to go there. The place looks adorable. And that absinthe & champagne cocktail looks delish. I love absinthe. I don’t drink it often but I love the taste of it. And when I do drink I drink it the real fancy way like in your photo.
I wish we had more cute cafe’s like Sweetpie in my city. I do live near the Italian section of Providence (Federal Hill) and there are quite a few cute cafe & dessert places there. My favorites are Pastiche (http://www.pastichefinedesserts.com/home.html) and Caffe Dolce Vita (http://www.caffedolcevita.com/). You would love the Caffe Dolce Vita building because it’s pink! The Dolce Vita hotel is above the caffe too.

Hey now, don’t assume that everyone who has ill feelings about Carmina only bases them off of gossip!
Carmina is not evil incarnate, and the mocking of her tends to cross the line. By her own choices and without remorse, she has also acted very inconsiderate towards and lied to a wide array of people. Gossipers are out there, definitely, but there are also many people who have genuine reasons.

Unless a person has wronged YOU, personally & directly, there is NEVER a genuine reason to express displeasure with them. Propagating drama and being outraged *for* others is what petty gossipers do.
We’ve all been inconsiderate to someone at least once; we all make mistakes. Most of us are, mercifully, forgiven by those we’ve wronged. Even serial killers are forgiven by victims’ families – now that’s someone with a ‘genuine’ grudge.

If you ever come out to California, stop by the Madonna Inn. I think you would love it. It has similarly themed dining areas, and the pink champagne cake in the Copper Kettle Cafe is amazing. [it also suffers from poor service sometimes, but usually it's so comically bad my friend and I laugh about it.]

I think the cutest Restaurant in Columbus, ohio is “Surly Girl Saloona” It may not be all girly in decor but I love it! It’s like Annie Oakley got drunk with some girlfriends and went crazy decorating with other strong women red glitter/ rock and roll / western themes and decided they needed cupcakes with alcohol flavors and buttercream frosting with luscious fruity flavors to compliment!
