- What is The Deerlings Secret Society? (TDSS)
The Secret Deerlings Society is an underground fellowship of Deerlings all over the world who use the Doe Deere Blogazine as a platform for Regular Glee Dispersal.
- What defines a Deerling?
A Deerling is a modern woman who is content in her own skin. She is always tactful and polite, but never afraid to speak her mind
A Deerling is different; she is more of a leader than a follower – and for this she is valued and loved by the society. She dresses with a panache; sometimes glamorous, often seductive but always assertive in her clothing choices. A Deerling’s sense of style is resolute, yet multifaceted; she is a Forward Shopper who spends smart, but still enjoys and looks forward to an occasional targeted splurge.
A Deerling is not perfect; she acknowledges her weaknesses and always puts forth the strengths. Her aura of optimism and positivity lights up the room and she is a delight to be around.
Wow! That sounds exactly like me! (Or what I aspire to be.) How do I become a member?
- Leave an introductory comment and tell us something interesting about yourself. We love meeting new people!
- Learn the lyrics to our official ‘Flowers & Balloons’ anthem, so you won’t miss any subtle references intended for the in-crowd only. ;)
- Be sure to sign up for the Deerling Mail (on the right).
- Become a regular: actively comment on posts and express your opinion on things that matter to you (as long as it’s beneficial to someone and carries a positive message).
- Spread the word about the blogazine by sticking the badges below on your MySpace, Facebook or any networking site. Better yet – make your own banner(s) and submit them to be posted here!
- Love and respect yourself and others. Those qualities go a long way here. :)
Is there a secret handshake?
Yes, but you would have to be a member to know it now, wouldn’t you? ;)

Well here I go…
Im Marlies, 20 from the Netherlands. I first heard about Doe when I was working on my website and interviewd her for the page about Sky Salt. Some how I never got to order any of Sky Salts music (It was a while ago and I didnt know how to use paypal yet) but now Im the proud owner of both the Green and Physical edition of Supernatural. I want to be a Deerling because this blog and Doe’s music make me happy. I just dont like the balloon song, sorry…I will learn to love it some day :)
I hope this is enough info!
Hi! I’m Shannon from Ontario Canada. I’m a little over 22.5 years old, happily married for one year and one day to my sweat heart Adam :) I like kitties, shiny things, reading, sailing, tasty food, comic books, and movies. OH! And sailing!. I totally luff the Doe! She rocks and got me hooked on Polyvore.com . . . I spend many happy hours there. I want to be a Deerling because I have never been a member of a society like this . . . and I like the ideals behind it!
Hm; here goes nothing I suppose.
You can call me Tygenco. I’m a twenty-something girl living in Atlanta and enjoying life. I happened upon Doe’s livejournal a while back and have since been reveling in her fantastic music.
I always enjoy reading what Doe’s got to say (or listening if it’s possible) and since I have little to no good fashion sense (I dress like I’m still in the early 90′s some days… help!), it’s always good to learn from a pro. I tend to observe things before I comment, and it may be a good couple of days or weeks between my commentary.
Sure I’d like to be a Deerling :) And even if I’m not afforded such an honor, I’m content to keep reading her posts and listening to her music nonstop.
Let’s see..my name is Sarah and I’m a 20 year old from Delaware.I found out about about Doe Deere back when she was still with Sky Salt. As far as something interesting about myself I’m an absolute bibliophile. I’ll read almost everything and anything!
Okay! So I’m Liz. I’m 24 years old and I live in New Mexico. I first found out about Doe when she was known as limecrime and made awesome diy clothing. I guess two interesting things about me would be that I work at a thrift store, and I like making things! I love the Deerling ideals, though I only aspire to them because I’m not sure I have them all down yet. Plus it would would be cool to have little (imaginary) antlers. :3
Okie dokie. My name is Clara from the UK and I’m 22. I work in a theatre and am a huge Lord of the Rings geek with a skull obsession and just recently a top I helped to bead appeared in Vogue UK meaning I was a very happy Deerling. I stumbled on Doe a few years back looking for pretty make up and finding the music side was an added bonus! I would love to be a Deerling because it sounds like my kind of people!
Gosh, I’ve never been asked to introduce myself on the internet before…
My name is Weezy, I’ 17 and I live in Ireland. Right now I’ve got a rainbow coloured fringe (I’m very much a fashion diyer) but please don’t think i’m one of those strange emos! I adore dressing up in pink and dresses and high heels!
I would love to be a Deerling! Doe has been such an inspiration to me over the past few years! And I’m now in love with polyvore as well… xxx
Marlies – always good to see old friends here! As for Flowers & Balloons, you gotta take a good look at the lyrics to really get it, I think. ;)
tinkerbell86ca – you sound like a total sweetie, welcome! :)
Tygenco – …is a woman of few words. But when she does speak up, it’s always worth listening to! Welcome to the Secret Socieety, Deerling!
Petite Minou – wow, another Sky Salt aficionado! Really makes me feel like we did *something* right. :D
sunnyside – Working in a thriftstore is cool. I love those places and a lot of my outfits come from there. Oh, and you gave me an idea! I should give all commenters antler icons, instead of the giftbox! (Although I will always see each person’s contribution as a gift.)
Clara – wow, congratulations on the Vogue UK feature! I’m impressed!
Weezy – Polyvore is sooo addictive, isn’t it? The idea of a rainbow fringe sounds fascinating… :D
I’m Mini, 22, and from germany. I was a member of the old lc-forum and since that I know DD(The name is just so long, so I hope DD is ok xD). I love pink. I have almost everything in pink(hope I get a pink car one day). And I love music, photografie and movies. I could spend hours on listen to music or ran across our garden and take pictures. Ehm… I don’t know what else to say about me^^”
I just think the Deerlings going to be a lot of fun ^________^
Hi, I’m Aether. I am in my early 20′s. I have loved all of Miss Xenia’s endeavors since the Sky Salt days. I am into fashion, photography, designing, making music, and writing. I am trying to finish a book I have been working on for a looooong time. It’s hard but I think things will be taking a turn for the better soon. I want to be a Deerling because, well firstly because I love Miss Doe and I love Deers too. I also want to try to get deeper in touch with my inner pink loving sexy self!
Heyyy.
I’m Kelsey and I’m currently living it up in Iowa. Woo. I’ve been a fan of Doe Deere since before she was Doe. Back in her neon tights and crazy make-up days of Sky Salt. Everything this lady touches is genius – from her music and style, to her own personality. Anywho. I’m a Deerling because I can’t see myself not being one. I think my room is 80% pink. Yep. I love Hello Kitty and Flower & Balloons is definitely my new myspace profile song.
I’m Jennifer; I’m 17 and live in Illinois. I also learned about Doe in her Sky Salt days. My main passion is Croatian folk music and dance. I also play piano, flute, and electric bass so music in general is big for me. I’ve only started dressing girly and liking pink in the last couple years. I think it’s the My Little Pony obsession rubbing off on me. I’d love to be a Deerling and meet other fun girly people!
Hello, I am Sheila, and I am quite crazy for arts and crafts. Painting, beading, making paper and books, drawing, sewing, weaving and sculpting are all things I’ve had my hands in and more. I love to create with my hands and am always looking for something new to try out :)
Hi! I’m Kay and I’m 19 and live in Maryland. I stumbled upon Doe Deere after Mosh mentioned her interview in her deviantART journal. I checked out this blog and I thought “Wow. Sounds awesome.” So I would love to support this blog as a Deerling!
Hi! I’m Naomi. I’m in my mid 20′s (woah!). I grew up, and will soon return to, Vermont. I’ve been studying in Kunming, China, for the summer. I’m an Asian Studies major with an Art History minor and soon to graduate. I’m also an art school drop out. I realized after a year of school that art was something I wanted to do only for myself. I’m much happier with my current education, and am learning Chinese. I have a habit of collecting and am quite a bit of a pack rat. My parents (rip mum) are my heroes.
Wow, I remember Doe when she was Limey, rocked out in Sky Salt and made amazing dresses that I only dreamed of owning. Kinda crazy how much has changed but I hope to accomplish, change and grow a lot just like her. So, I live in Surrey, BC, I’m 17 and hope to one day become a filmmaker among many other things. I heavily fail at shopping and finding inspiration/motivation so hopefully now that I’ve stumbled upon a site from Xenia again, I’ll find something that gets my creativity rolling so I can draw and paint like I used to =^_^=
I’m Jessica :D I’m 18 (but my birthday is less than two weeks away, haha!) and I live in Queens, NY. I’m planning on pursuing a career in editing – my writing isn’t the greatest but I love pointing out the mistakes in others’. xD And I absolutely adore learning languages; I’m never any good at them but that’s never stopped me! Currently I’m studying French and German.
Mini – ah, the good ole’ LC forum. Good to see some of my girls on here. :) And yes, DD is just fine!
Aether – …is super-talented. There is nothing that girl can’t do, I swear! A lovely person all around.
Kels – finally someone who gets the Flowers & Balloons song/joke :) Now you’re officially a Deerling! :)))
Jennifer – did you read the interview I did with Johanna Ost? She loves My Little Ponies and collects them like whoa.
Sheila – …is the crafty type. Love, love! <3
Kay – welcome, sweetie! Are you a friend of Mosh’s in real life? (Seeing how you’re from MD and all)
Naomi – yay for Asian culture (the source of all cuteness)! And I like how you cited your parents as your heroes.
Chelsaur – another Sky Salt fan, cool! It is crazy how much has changed since. I think the most important thing is to let yourself grow and maintain the state of inspiredness. :)
Jessica – a fellow New Yorker, yay! I can sense the NY sense of humor ;)
Hey all! My name’s Toni and I’m 21 and live on Long Island. woo! I really dig Halloween and love reading. My fashion sense is moderately good but I lack the awesome sewing skills in which to create the things I cannot afford. I remember meeting Xenia way back and we did Clownage together to help promote the fashion and rock show down at the Knitting Factory, which was a total blast! I would love to be a Deerling since the ideals put forth are what I hope I am and show myself to be. :D
I’m Alex (Will also answer to Alexandra, Lee, Juliet). I act, write, do wardrobe styling, runway coordination, coaching, etc, general event planning, and some modeling. I also worked as an unpaid couture buyer for a 15,000 square-foot boutique in Michigan. I love to volunteer, organize things for charity etc., literature, music, the arts, and film studies. Also, I love to travel and used to live in Germany. Unfortunately, some of those things are bit harder as I’m quadriplegic and have a bunch of other health problems. (Which by the way it’s why I don’t have the new album yet, medical costs have to trump music.)
But honestly, Xenia I remember the days of LimeCrime and Sky Salt no matter what you do you manage to make it rock. Oh and also, I remember when you first came out as Doe. I was just the shiniest thing ever because I have a slight session with deer and their incredible awesomeness.
Peace and love always,
Alex
Hi! I’m Carrie and I’m twenty-ten ;)I ran across Doe as Limecrime while looking up makeup looks in ’05 and have been mesmerized by her ever since…she embodies everything I think a grown-up little-girl should have: Style, imagination, a sense of humor, and love for all things fantastically pretty! I love pretty things, too…and look forward to your beautiful pictures and little stories about the neat things you run across every day. I guess the interesting (weird?) thing about me is that I collect dollies from the 1980′s (my childhood) and have a special obsession with ROYGBIV so everything I own has almost too much color to be allowed.
~TTFN~
Hi Im Britt, 20 living in Calgary (thats Canada eh!), although I’ve desided the place I want to live is in Berlin. But that will have to wait for me to finish my Ancient and Medieval History degree first! I am a bit of a history nerd crossed with a really girly girl. Sparkles are my best friends.
Actually, anything glittery and shiny has a spot in my heart (am I a girl or a raven?)
Pleasently stumbled upon Doe Deere through her interview with Mosh, whom I adore, and I have desided that I adore Doe Deere just as much. Now I just have to learn Flower and Balloons and get me a Sky Salt CD.
Toni the red-haired siren, so good to see you here!
Alex – I’ll never live those Sky Salt and LimeCrime days down, will I? Haha. Not that I’d ever want to! ;)
Carrie – yeah, Little Big Girl power all the way!
Britt – ‘am I a girl or a raven’ – that made my day hahaha! You rock! :D
Well well well :)
The name’s Pam. I’m 23 years old living in Eastern NC with my wonderful girlfriend, Mollie, and our fantastic cat, Miss Kitten (she is my soul!!!).
Pink is my defining color.
Pandas are my favorite animals.
Pandora is my alias.
I guess you could say that I’m made up of teh P’s!
I love everything fantastic, glitter:filled, and fun. I love DIY, though I don’t have enough experience with sewing as I’d like ;_; I hope to be changing that soon, as I just got a new apartment, and am turning over a new, creative leaf.
I’m an artist, my main focus is on abstract illustration. I hope to one day illustrate children’s books :3
I found this website via Myspace, actually. Through the Glam ‘R Us Eyes Group — which I also found today ^_^ I noticed Doe, and was like “GASP, LIME CRIME!? I haven’t seen her IN YEARS!!!!”
[ xD My bestfriend from high school was quite a fan of yours! And she's moved on to be quite the fantastic fashion designer if I do say so myself :D ]
Anyhoo, I joined the email group, and I look forward to meeting all of you wonderful ladies, this should be very exciting :D
Hearts, Hugs, Glitter and Biscuits to you all ^_^

I know this is really old now but I was reading through & thought I would leave a reply anyway.
Hello, my name is Skye. I’m 14 & seem to be one of the youngest readers of your blog. I live in the south of England & hate it. I want to move to America as soon as possible. I make or alter a lot of my clothes and your outfits inspire me to be honest! I’m fascinated by anything artistic or creative & I completely adore your website.
Well hey there ^-^
I’m Alyse (18) I also, like Skyee, realize this post is quite old but eh.
I’m a dancer, no not that kind -__-, I’m a ballerina, living in America. I discovered your blog while searching for unicorn leggings (not quite sure why) but now I’m addicted. Haha I’ve read every post in reverse up to this one.
