I finally got to see the movie I’ve been dying to see forever: The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus! Not only does it have my favorite model Lily Cole, but an all-star cast: Johnny Depp, Jude Law, Colin Farrell, Tom Waits, Christopher Plummer and the late Heath Ledger. This was Heath Ledger’s last film; he died in the middle of the filming, leaving several scenes unfinished. The director Terry Gilliam had to change the plot to accommodate cameos of Depp, Law and Farrell to replace Ledger. (You can read more about how Heath’s death affected the production here.)

Heath Ledger
For a visual person, this film is a feast for the eyes. The fashion, the makeup, the sets, the fabulous Lily Cole floating through the screen in jellyfish-like gowns… be still my little heart! I stumbled out of the theater re-inspired and re-newed, as if someone hit the reset button on my creativity. Fans of Willy Wonka, Harry Potter and Alice in Wonderland will lose their mind during the 2 hour GLEE-o-rama that is the Imaginarium. I highly recommend it!

Deerlings: have you seen it yet? If so, how did you find it? If not, are you planning to?

I saw it when it came out a while ago here in the UK and loved it too! I adore Lily, and was so happy to hear that they were still going to finish the film after Heath’s tragic death. He is brilliant as Tony. Shame Johnny’s hardly in it though! <3

And I already wondered why you were talking about one of my fave models Lily Cole.
To be honest I dislike movies and especially going to the cinema, but your entry makes it quite interesting and especially that poster made me fall in love with the whole story.
Lily is such an angel. And at first I thought it was new shoot of yours because she looks so much like you in that pic XD Oh, I’m really going insane since having made Lime Crime my #1 in daily life ha ha. Every time I’m seeing red hair I’m always reminded of you… I should shut up and go to dinner now! Yup.

I’ve heard people say I look like Lily before (her and Kirsten Dunst!) but I adore her regardless of the similarity. Her acting was surprisingly good and even inspiring.
Thank you for dedicating so much time to LC by the way, it’s greatly appreciated!! xo

Amazing film. I loved the gypsy/circus wagon they travel in. I want one to live in. The best part for me though is Tom Waits as I’m a huge fan. He’s brilliant in it.
Can’t wait for it to come out on DVD!

I loved the movie. I also loved seeing it in an old vintage theater. It was very fitting. And I agree with you, Lily Cole was amazing. Actually, all the actors were amazing. It was visually beautiful film to watch.

The pictures of the movie were great, i loved the overall atmosphere, but the story was… i dont know…confusing but at the same time boringly flat and strange…

omg i love this movie! i saw it about a month ago (my boss is in “the academy”) so we got to preview all the new movies before their release dates. this movie is absolutely amazing! i know some people who couldn’t get into it and to be honest this kind of movie is not for everyone! but if you like movies like a clockwork orange, big fish/,movies that are interestingly mystifying then you’ll love this!
and in regards to lily cole! uhm, can you say beautiful?!

I saw it just last night! It was amazing!
I felt it so odd watching Heath Ledger act after he’s been gone for the past few years, it almost felt like he was rising from the dead.
He’s a fantastic actor and the movie had a bid of a sad tinge because I kept thinking about how I’d never see him act again.
RIP Heath.

I loved this movie! It was such eyecandy. The story was lacking in some areas though. Especally the end. I wonder if it was because Heath died half way through and they had to change it a little bit.

I absolutely loved it! I got pretty confused at the end though, I’ll admit. But it was, like you said, a feast for the eyes. And how GORGEOUS is Lily Cole? It’s put me in the right mood for the upcoming Alice!!!!

I saw that film on January 1th. And I loved it so mutch! The story, the setting, everything. Undescribable:)
I don’t like the fact that this movie hasn’t been in focus here in Norway. They’ve only been focusing on Avatar, but this movie is also good!
And of course, rip Heath Ledger:( It was sad that he died during the recording of the movie, but it still makes the movie more unique with the actor-changes and stuff.
I loved it and i highly recomend everyone to see it!

I went to the opening night when it came out – there were people outside the cinema in gorgeous dresses, dancers, fire-twirlers & fire-swallowers and it was a sold out show, which meant that there was such a buzz and generally fantastic atmosphere in the theatre!
As for the movie itself – amazing. I loved it. Johnny Depp and Heath Ledger were actually quite similar, I thought.

I really want to see this. Who knows when it comes out in Australia?!?!
For a split second I though Lily Cole was you. You are both equally beautiful with a similar look.

I definitely HAVE to see it now. I had such a hard time picking out the difference between Heath Ledger, Johnny Depp & Colin Farrell by the by!
And naturally Lily Cole reminded me of you – not just the hair, but the facial shape and out-of-the-ordinary beauty.

Her face shape and bone structure are divine- so out of the ordinary beauty. It’s not the typical, but she is certainly stunning!

I saw this movie over the holidays with two of my best friends. I had no idea of what the plot was and so I was’t sure what to expect. It is a mind blowing movie. I came out of the theater so HAPPY. The colour, the costumes, the music oh my goodness. If you have not seen this movie you have to.

i’m sorrowed to say that i haven’t seen this film yet as money and time are in short supply :(
Heath Ledger is my all-time favourite actor, i’ve seen all his work about a million times each (except Imaginarium of course) i can’t wait to see it though! i adore strange and wonderful visual spectacles and from the preview it definitely looks like one! i still cry when i think about his death and i probably will when i get to watch the film.

I was so disappointed when I had seen this movie. Like you I have been dying to see it and it felt like forever until i could finally see it.
The costumes, the effects, the makeup, the actors were grat and I soo love Lily Cole! What bothered the hell out of me was how shallow this movie is. You never get to know the characters and you never get to know parnassus. The story telling is completely messed up. What the movie REALLY is about is told by a small little ridiculous sentence late in the film, instead of just showing it to the audience.
I think the hole movie was destroyed because of this :(

I really liked it. I admit I mostly just wanted to see it to see Heath Ledger’s last performance and found myself very pleasantly surprised. I swooned the most when Johnny Depp was on the screen though ;)

I personally thought it was a storm in a glass of water. A movie like The Fall by Tarsem Singh is a million times better, and far more visually stunning. This just seemed quirky for the sake of quirky to me, and as a fan of Gilliam, I was very disappointed. At no point did I find myself impressed. Check out Tarsem Singh’s movies if you’re looking for a visual feast, they are much, much better than this.
However, I have to say that Lily Cole’s acting surprised me positively, and that she is, indeed, very pretty.

I saw it, and was actually really disappointed. Visually it was perfect, but I felt no connection to the characters and storyline, and there was absolutely no chemistry between any of the characters. I really wanted to like it, but didn’t.
Lily Cole is so gorgeous though- and actually, when I was watching it, I kept thinking she reminded me of you.

I loved it too, but the friends I went with stated that it just wasn’t their style, and went into detail criticizing the sporatic plot and lack of continuity throughout the film. I agree that it was confusing at parts, but I’m one of those people that just fall in love with visual effects and colors, and of course the steampunk charm :]

I thought it was an amazing movie! I absolutely love Tom Waits, and I was so excited that he played the Devil in it, hahaha. His dance with Lily Cole? best part of the movie!
I was really sad, though, because it was Heath Ledger’s last movie. They did an excellent job with recasting his parts, though, and I think it made the story a lot more interesting with that character having different “faces” depending on whose imagination he was in.
And, um, you could be Lily Cole’s doppleganger<3

I went to see this movie at the cinema – The visuals, set desgins and costumes where exquisit, exotic and definietly a talking point. However – can someone tell me what on earth the film was acctually about? It made no sense to me or my partner. Lily Cole was obviously gorgeous – but yeah no story line is was just like going to watch a movie art gallery which wasn’t what I wanted to see!
